Highdown Tea Rooms in Worthing

Very disappointing. Ordered the sausage bap £6.95. Got a dry brioche bun (which I personally don't like), not a bap containing 1.5 small sausages. No relish, garnish. My friend ordered the bacon bap £5.95 - again a dry brioche and a small amount of bacon. The place looked lovely from outside, but service was slow even though it wasn't particularly busy. Maybe we just chose the wrong option, but won't be returning. 😒

No food arrived after an hou,r, no expenation until we complained, they then their chef was cooking for the pub as well. We left after a refund.

Friendly service but the prices simply do not reflect the taste, quality and quantity of the food. £7 for a sandwich that doesn't even befit a naff meal deal? I don't think so.

Having spent many years using this establishment, service is reasonable enough. But the quality of the food has declined emensly and having to pay £7 for a cheese sandwich, that wasn't even a thick slice of fresh bread or any decent dressing or presentation. Consisted of two pieces of what appeared supermarket thin sliced bread and processed cheap cheese, bread was curling up on edges as appeared to have been left sitting for some time. I was very disappointed. Historically the older ladies that used to run the business created a lovely atmosphere and took pride in producing homemade quality and quantity of food, that made the experience enjoyable and value for money. However appears now just the usual quick turn around business that is profit oriented rather than quality. Such a shame. I'm sad to say I won't be using the place again and can not recommend the cafe anymore.

Very over priced ,the food was poor ,would not recommend or go there again.

The only reason give this 3 stat for service and food. Is because they were extremely busy. If you are not in a rush, then this is a perfect place for you and is dog friendly. I was not in a hurry and enjoyed every moment of the amazing buildings, thoughtful decor and nature all areound

What has happened to the prices.we had two coffee's and two cheese scones £16.90 .we will not be going again .

Beautiful setting,, ruined by awful service. Waited over 45mins for cheese scone tea. Enquired after waiting & waiting. Staff member leaning on till, I asked where our order was, “oh haven’t you got it”, be out straight away!!!! Another 15mins, just about to cancel & ask for refund when our food arrived. Male staff member more interested in treats for the dogs. One lady who is always lovely doing all the work. Perhaps you could also find the cause of sewage smell where tables outside, not good at all.

it was £8.40 for a small hot chocolate and small black americano to takeaway. Seemed so expensive for what we got unfortunately.

Used to like visiting this little cafe but totally shocked at the price hike here recently. Ordered 2 coffees and 2 teacakes which I was told was £15. Refused to pay this and walked out! Blatant greedflation. Vote with your feet people....some businesses are just plain greedy.

Had a very nice Latte and a toasted tea cake. A lirrttle extra butter would have made it even better.

So welcoming and friendly, dog friendly, really relaxed, a great stop off for a hike out or an afternoon tea with friends. Great all rounder!

Incredibly slow service with only one girl out of four appearing to be doing all of the work. There were gluten-free options however and the coffee was ok.

Been about 5 years ago, so back in the area and thought we would visit again, did not disappoint, very freindly even with our sometimes noisy dogs, free treats for them and tea and cake for us, would recommend!

Waited a very long time to be served went inside twice but were ignored. Three tables could not be used as they were loaded with dirty crockery and cans. Finally ordered waited another long time for latte and cake the latte was too strong. Cake was ok won’t be returning.

We did not eat. Just went in for a tea and walk around the gardens. Very beautiful scenery and atmosphere. Closes at 4pm though which is fair.

The BEST scones with clotted cream and jam (oh yeah, a pot of tea as well), In The World! The scones simply melt in your mouth. Delicious! The staff are friendly and work with covid awareness. Thanks.

Ordered two hot drinks with tea cake and fruit scone. We sat in there for over 40 mins and despite asking three members of staff what was happening we didn't get any of the other food/drinks and ended up getting a refund. Very poor service.

Nice experience, patisserie fantastic teacups, tea pot and other accessories all the same design. You can sit in or out in the garden. Building very old, staff young and great.

Justed got home from tea rooms very disappointed order two grainy sandwiches two coffees mine was hard & dry also known as stale my other half was mould got my money back and walk out not to visit again, it was a lovely old tea room before the bloody american took over.

Off of a busy dual carriageway it's situated behind the hotel at the end of a narrow lane. We had coffee and scones which were quite acceptable and not over priced.

A very limited selection of food but my bacon sandwich and elderflower cordial was nice. I wouldn't rush to go back there again.

Worth searching out lovely cakes and scones.

Lovely place for gluten free snacks and cake

I had a bacon, brie panini which was delicious. I ate half of it and got the lady in the tea room to put in a bag 4 me to take away. I ate the rest next day.

Appalling service when it was very quiet . No straws or glasses with drinks , food took ages, no milk with tea and to top it all was told by a member of staff that that was the way it was . Dreadful

For such a nice establishment I was incredibly disappointed with the selection of afternoon tea and also the service. When we arrived we was told to sit in the pub rather than the actual tea room which i’m not sure if its the quality and service was effected but then that shouldn’t be the case if you’re going to sit people in the pub who booked afternoon tea. I chose to visit this place for my birthday as when I called and asked the selection of tea they had quite a large variety. When I asked what teas they have I was given an incomplete uncertain list off the top of the waitressess head that I know wasnt the full variety and when I asked for a menu I was told they didn’t have one. So the “tea room” that I booked for afternoon tea doesnt have a menu with its variety of tea and the staff serving are unsure on what they have to offer. This seems ridiculous and ludicrous when visiting a tea room at any level let alone the level of prestige that the highdown presents itself as. Then moving on to the food, the salmon had been left out for hours and you could tell instantly as it was discoloured, dried out and stodgy. The sandwich which contained chicken may aswell of just been mayonnaise as not much chicken was present at all and again could tell it had been left out all day as the mayo was bitter. The Sausage rolls served where so greasy no batter stuck to them at all and the selection of sweet treats provided was absymal. We was given one tiny profiterole and what looked like toe nail of lemon tart. Again absolutely ridiculous when visiting a tea room, you expect freshly prepared sandwiches/ingredients, for the staff to at least know their main thing they’re selling (tea) if not have a menu for it or if not dont sell yourself as a “tea room”, and at least a slice of cake that is the equivalent to one mouth full. I could of honestly eaten the profiterole and the lemon tart in one bite. I’ve been to most afternoon teas available in Worthing and many outside Worthing, and sorry to say but it is pathetic to even call this afternoon tea. If you go to the cafe in morrisons they do an afternoon tea set for £6, despite not having a variety of tea, the sandwiches are fresher, the cakes are larger and fresher, the only thing it doesnt beat is the scone (but it isnt far off). So moral of the story if you want a decent afternoon tea go to morrisons cafe cause they have fresher ingredients and tastier items than the highdown establishment in regards to afternoon tea at more than half the price.

Visited on a beautiful sunny day and sat outside. You have to order inside and pay, and then you take a table number with you and the food/beverages will be brought out to your table. The vanilla iced coffees were amazing! The only downside is they were very small (especially for the price). The cranberry, brie and bacon panini was so tasty and filling, and came with a lovely side coleslaw. Everything was presented nicely and the staff were very friendly and helpful. Would love to come back for scones, tea and cakes!

Super little tearooms next to Highdown Gardens and Highdown Hill. Great place to stop for a light meal. The scones are delicious.

Its lovely now that it's open again. Unfortunately they dont accept cash, only card payments, which is very off-putting as not everyone carries their cards with them. They must sort this out otherwise it will put people off visiting

2018/19: Sadly long gone now Update 2020: reinstated as tearoom under different management. I haven't been there yet to try it out but hear good things...hopefully after lockdown

Well organised for C19 with a Track & Trace QR code at the door. Nice menu, dog friendly and nice staff. Outside seating is plentiful. A lovely place to rest after walking the dog. 😃 🐶

Probably the most boring, flaccid tuna melt sandwich in the entire world. Completely tasteless. Tasteless tuna, tasteless cheese, and nothing to perk it up. A good tuna melt contains spring onions or even a little bit of pickle or capers, but no effort had gone into this one. Disappointing. Indifferent food served by indifferent staff.

Beautiful little tea room set in the South Downs will definitely be going next again.

Looked for a place for cream teas after a hike on the south downs way. A little way from where we were but worth the drive. A good selection of cakes (we went for a cream tea and Red Velvet cake), with tea in proper china. OK for walk ins but you need to book for afternoon tea.

Went looking for somewhere for tea and cake. In current times everywhere closing at 4 pm. But we were not rushed.Guess they had been busy but the cake choice was limited and only one scone left.Staff friendly and helpful even with other customers who were not the easiest.Well done and thank you

After a long dog, we stopped here for a drink and cake before going home.Tables outside filled up quickly, dogs welcome outside.Seemed a limited menu with some queuing. Cake prices a bit on the high side for what you get but my fruit slice was tasty and seemed home made. Americano was nice also. Similar to garden centre prices but without the choice of say Haskins down the road. However for convenience and that we had a dog with us, it was ok, but they could do more in terms of point of sale and choice. Staff friendly and fairly efficient

Stopped here today and just got parked as very busy due to the restaurant and a wedding party. The coffee shop however was quite. I did phone ahead to book a table as I thought they might be busy. Seating inside and out. Social distancing being observed. Order and pay, everything is then brought to your table. You can sit outside or inside. Cake choice was disappointing, my husband had carrot cake which he gave an 8 out of 10.Coffee average, but then we are coffee snobs. Pleased to see they cater for people with allergies.However that said a nice find off the beaten track. Gardens to walk round and if you so wished you could book a room and eat in their restaurant.

After walking over Highdown Common from Angmering we popped into this delightful little tea room for the 1st time.The staff were helpful and pleasant.We had tea and a ham and cheese sandwich, which was delicious.We sat outside. The seating was comfortable and under large umbrellas.Looking forward to the gardens opening in the Spring as we having visited them before.

Went for a lunchtime break. Not busy and lovely outside area. Service was good. A bonus with the government 50% off deal Monday to Wednesday it was a nice surprise. Menu was limited but nice selection.

This little Tea Room has very good decor and cosy. The staff do their job.Food is average, a bit on the dull side. There is a fairly good choice, but no prices on the black board! Our sandwich, was just bread and contents, no side garnish....very dull. A bit of greenery or crisps would look better.The prices were very, very expensive for what we received. Would not recommend this Cafe.......shame, as the location is great.

Nicely redone with nice staff. One slight bit of feedback, and that's they overheated the milk for my cappuccino.

Scones were dry,hot chocolate was only lukewarm, nearly ended up paying twice as the card machine declined previous customer and server said it was my card.
