An outstanding alfresco experience! What a fabulous experience. I have been wanting to come to High Grange for ages and it certainly didn’t disappoint. We enjoyed the most amazing feast sourced from a 5 mile radius. What a beautiful setting too. We watched the sunset with fresh strawberry cocktails and enjoyed watching all of the food being prepared in Green Eggs. Friendly efficient staff. We’ll be back! Couldn’t recommend it more highly

This was a retirement present from work and what a top gift If you like cooking outside with fire and on your BBQ then this is for you. Luke has so much knowledge that is easy to understand and shows you how to do easily. A really great day with amazing food all day go hungry. It’s the understanding of the produce that I really loved Thanks Luke and your lovely team

This is a bittersweet moment! I'm wanting to tell you all what a fabulous venue High Grange is, the food is amazing, and meeting other folk around the Feast Table is fun. Luke is a great bloke, who clearly has found his passion, and role in life, via his cooking, and food combinations. On the other hand, by publicising this, I know it will be harder to book again, because you lot will be taking my place! I'm off there again next week, can't wait. Many thanks all at H G, fantastic!!

The bespa team enjoyed a fabulous day at High Grange. It was a great way for everyone to kick back in the beautiful Devon surroundings learning various methods of cooking outdoors and enjoy some amazing food. Hoping for some decent weather now to try out some of the cooking skills Luke taught us.

We attended High Grange for a Feast Night where we received a very warm welcome. The evening started with a cheeky HG Mint and sweet cicely mojito and ex-dairy koftes with mint yogurt and grilled wild scarlet prawns - absolutely delicious! We chatted to the other guests who had arrived in the lovely gardens, watching Luke (Head Chef) and Grace (Apprentice Chef) cooking outside on the Kamado Joe BBQ's and Vulcanas (which is a fire pit with cooking plate & grill). We then sat down at the outdoor feast table which was beautifully set, and the views were amazing. We were then served 5 courses of pure deliciousness - surprisingly the first course was incredible (Barbecued hispi, miso butter, wild garlic with hazelnuts) and possibly my favourite dish, followed by Lyme Bay Bisque of crab, gurnard, pollock and scallop, then seaweed-cure burnt mackerel, dashi with sour apple, and Blackdown Hills lamb loin and crisp lamb breast, salt baked celeriac puree, bbq purple sprouting brocolli and lamb gravy with the finale of Salted chocolate tart, pistachio brittle and vanilla mascarpone. the food was very high end - a better feast one could not have eaten, and the company of the other guests was delightful. We also purchased a beautiful rose wine to accompany the meal. Highly recommend High Grange, run by Luke and his wife Sara Vandore-Mackay, with lots of events throughout the year.

I was fortunate to be treated to a Fireschool as a present and I must say, it ranks up there with the Atari, BMX and the AT-AT (70’s kids nod along) as one of the best and most memorable presents. From the warm welcome, through the breakfast, the coffees, the knowledge, the fire building, and the amazing (really amazing) food, this was a truly memorable day. Not only did I learn a lot, meet some lovely people (a good mix of guys ‘n gals), eat amazing food and gain the confidence to ‘go do’, I also had a well needed day in the open air focussing on fire, food and fun. Luke is refreshingly honest and highlights the simplicity of good produce simply cooked well. He takes time to explain, answer questions and share his passion for South American inspired outdoor cooking. I left High Grange relaxed, completely full from the wonderful food and ready to take my own outdoor cooking to a new level. Highly recommend this experience, kudos to Luke and the team at High Grange. It wasn’t my first visit as I have sampled the Friday takeaways, and burgers from Millers (a must if you are in the area when they are on!!) and I will definitely be back but for now, I am busy digging a pit in my garden to cook a succulent joint in…

This was a birthday present for a whole day cooking over fire and eating 5* food. It was a truly wonderful experience and I cannot recommend it highly enough. Luke and his colleagues treated us like family and got us all helping to prepare as well as eat the food. Would I do this again? Without a doubt. Make sure you arrive feeling hungry because there is a lot of excellent food.

This was an absolute belter of a day, cooking and eating amazing food on a variety of firey paraphernalia, under the watchful eye of a genuine expert. High Grange is the most gorgeous place, and while we were spoiled rotten with the weather, I’d happily come back in a thunderstorm. Luke and his surrounding menagerie make for the most welcoming of hosts, and a fairly unique voice in the world of cooking with fire - no macho nonsense here, just a good mix of men and women of all ages preparing and cooking wonderful ingredients in a variety of different firey ways. My only tip would be to make sure you arrive hungry, because you sure as hell won’t leave that way!

It would be impossible to rate this too highly. From the home-made gin fizz to the charred rump and Beech smoked crevettes, And that was just the starters! A 5 course tasting menu followed with each dish as sumptuous as the last, The staff were attentive and yet professional and our fellow diners were great company. Not to be missed and we will be returning.

Last Friday we thoroughly enjoyed our takeaway meal. Meeting Luke in Uplyme to pick up our meal was really convenient. Heating up instructions a doddle and we so enjoyed a bit of luxury dining at home by the fire later that evening.

We attended our second Burns Supper at High Grange and encouraged some friends to join us. We, and they, were not disappointed. The welcome punch and delicious canapés by the fire pits were an excellent opening to the evening where alfresco dining did not seem too challenging on a cool January evening. With a piper providing authenticity to the event we moved indoors and were wowed by the range and flavours of a sumptuous meal. Of special note was the homemade haggis but all the food was delightful and of good portions. The staff were friendly and alert to guests' needs and a wee dram was served to complement the meal. It proved to be another successful evening for High Grange and we look forward to attending further theme nights during the year .

Collected a take away that tasted fabulous. Well worth the effort of driving through the narrow lanes to collect the food. Ordered a take away for one but it would have easily fed two and on that basis good value for money too.

We were so looking forward to our Christmas Feast Night at High Grange, the menu looked amazing and we had heard such good things. The 9th December came and with it rain and high winds, with news of regional flooding we set out from Exeter with some trepidation. As it was the journey was easy, all main roads apart from a few wide lanes and no issues with any floodwater at all, we pulled into the drive to be greeted by beautiful lights in trees and bushes and the most amazing smells wafting our way. As we met with the staff we were presented with some locally sourced warmed mulled wine, it was cold so this was a godsend and as we drank our glasses were liberally refilled. The canapes were exceptional – the smoked stilton and pear tartlet was sumptuous, real melt in the mouth stuff, the dairy beef fillet so delicious and soft but the star was the smoked eel – stunning and all cooked by the jovial Luke before our eyes. From here we proceeded to the indoors dining area, beautifully decorated and lovely and warm, the perfect surroundings to await what would follow. There were good choices of drink, a range of prices, accessible to every pocket – the cucumber Kombucha a real favourite of my wife’s. The house wine at £7.50 for 225mml was perfectly acceptable hitting all the right notes and not hitting the pocket too hard. Anyone can sell expensive wine but can they get the ‘value’ wine right? They did. What came next was just stunning – course after course each one as good as the last, each one cooked to perfection and worthy of the title ‘feast’. The Jerusalem artichoke velouté was light and airy hiding a buttery, delicious crumb adorned with delicate artichoke crisps. The Lyme Bay Sea bass, fresh crab and ‘crack dust’ ‘prawn crackers were so delicious and all set on a soft and creamy curry sauce. But it is the details that count, the skin was crispy and everything was perfectly hot, literally plated a few feet away. Next was brioche prawn toast, steak tartare and caviar! Yes all three on the same plate – the poshest surf and turf I have had in my life and easily the best. There was a lightness to the brioche, the tartar perfectly seasoned with a hint of sharpness and caviar - a hint of the sea atop, there just to remind us we were really being spoilt! But maybe the star was the goose: confit leg shredded, delicately smoked sliced of the softest most delicious goose on the richest of gravy with a celeriac puree that was so light and airy and accompanying veg – an utter delight. We ended with a fabulous cheesecake, again light but the Pedro Ximenez bringing a depth and feel of luxury, sweetened with apple puree. Maybe it didn’t need the ice cream, my wife thought it did but by then we were very full and ready to end with our complimentary coffees. We were nicely full but not over so, we were attended to brilliantly by the staff who had just the right tone and presence and we left truly feeling spoilt. The cost for this was £85 per head, clearly not something we would do every day but something we would definitely do again. It felt like a treat and it also felt good value. Luke clearly loves cooking and loves food that showed in every mouthful – as a festive banquet I can genuinely say that there wasn’t a misstep – flavour, portions, variety, presentation, service and atmosphere were all top notch, it was truly a feast and we look to return again next year. Thank you again to Luke and all the staff, it truly was a night to remember for all the right reasons.

I was lucky enough to join you on the second retreat. I’m not sure I even know where to begin. Firstly this was so well done I cannot believe it is only the second day retreat. Then the beautiful warm welcome into the space by you and @lukemackaycooks. A home from home feel whilst we greedily took in the surroundings and set up. Then we get to meet @ellamcconnellyoga and @souliberation22. After some lovely hot drinks and breakfast snacks we go to the sitting circle and share why we joined - under the canopy of the trees and next to a roaring fire pit. We are guided round the Knapp, using our senses to engage, the trees talking to us constantly through their leaves. Then it’s off for a wonderful yoga session with Ella, tailored to your experience and needs - being clear on the journey of the movements - how we can connect and release. After this physical nourishment is more refreshment nourishment - drinks and snacks to match how you feel. Then the most wonderful session with High Grange gardener walking the vegetable gardens, learning so much (her passion was palpable) ~ and we harvested our food for our cookery lesson and lunch making session with Luke. Luke who loves to cook outdoors on fire (not like us on a hot day with a bbq) proper cooking, on fire using all of his years of experience as a chef - cooking utterly delicious nourishing food -we could learn about and engage with. After hanging with Gilly, and the chickens and absorbing the grounds, we began our conscious continuous Breathwork with @souliberation22. We breathe every day right - not like this you don’t!! Within the cocooned safe space created by Nat, as empowered and informed participants we went on our breathing journey. It’s powerful. Very powerful. We released, we had energy cleared and transmuted. We were held. The knowledge, the skill, the care of @souliberation22 is incredible. The space felt and was so safe. It was also the little things, the oils and scent to bring in and calm, the attention to detail. Magical. @highgrangedevon offers this and more. Beautiful spaces, attention to detail, letting nature sing, letting facilitators sing, structure to guide (without us knowing except the day went perfectly to plan). If you need to be held, want to meet incredibly interesting interesting hosts and practitioners, feel safe and free to release, thus is your place. I will be back!!! I cannot not. After experiencing this you want more. Thank you!!!!

My husband and I attended the Steak Masterclass and lunch at High Grange on 10th September. We had an amazing time, which was helped with the sun shining down on us. We started off with a Bloody Mary each and then Luke shared so much knowledge about different cuts of steak, cooked them and then the best part we got to try them! The afternoon got even better because we then had a three course Sunday lunch with the steak and vegetables being cooked outdoors on different types of fire ie Komodo Joe, firepit. It was great finding out about ex-dairy beef and meeting other like minded people enjoying the afternoon. Thank you to Luke, Sara and their staff.

We recently dined at High Grange, and we have had many of their incredible takeaways. In a good context, the food is absolutely outstanding, and im being truthful when i state that with the flavours, aromas and after tastes, it is difficult to understand how all those experiences can be packed into the foods. Thank you Luke and Sara, we will keep returning for more!

Attended the supper night at High Grange in August and what an incredible experince. The minute you arrive you are greeted by the staff and given a welcome drink and canapé. you are then given time to explore the grounds and see the vegetable patch where alot of their ingredients are grown. The food is already being cooked outdoors for you to have a sneaky peak at. The smell is wonderful and cleverly gets your appetite going! You are then seated around a large wooden table handcrafted from a tree that was in the same garden. All the guests sit around the table together which is a great chance to meet new people and socialize. The food is explained how it is cooked and where it is sourced from as it is served to you which gives it a lovely personal and local touch. Plenty of food for everyone served buffet style with dessert served afterwards indivudally. No dietary requirement or even food preference was too much hassle for them and the staff were so friendly and approachable. All leftovers (or lack of) are taken by staff to avoid food waste and event the printed menus were used for kindling on the fire. Beautiful set up and and very enjoyable evening overall. Limited parking so I would definately recommend lift sharing but easy to find and drive to. Ideal as a wedding anniversary or birthday gift.

Wow! Mind blown … totally incredible experience hosted by Luke and the incredibly hospitable team that bring the High Grange experience to life! The welcome, with an invite to roam beautiful grounds and veg patch, converse with Luke as he effortlessly rustles up a feast with a magical setting in the hills and woods! And the food - generous amounts of cracking fire cooked meat, home grown veg, all hyper local ingredients to make you wish you didn’t have to leave! The wine list is classic and different. Cannot wait to go back. Thank you for a brilliant experience.

I was in two minds on whether to review The Cuppa Cabin. On the one hand it is a very unique place that serves great coffee and cakes and yet on the other Im worried it will get super popular as more and more people visit this wonderful place and it will get much harder to find a parking space!! This is literally 5 mins away from me and yet amazingly this was my first visit. I had looked at the place as I had driven past numerous times and thought it looked just like some sheds in a car park. How wrong I was, it is like a mini theme park when you get there, a collection of cabins with an eclectic mix of antique furniture, books galore and oddities, like a cross between an amazing junk shop, an old book store and Enid Blytons secret garden. I half expected to come across some pixies flying around. Anyway great coffee, lovely cheery lady and tasty cakes (pastries and other savouries are also available) what more could you ask for ?
