Nice crab sandwich here. All freshly prepared and delivered to the table by the lovely waiting staff.

Looking for somewhere to have breakfast while the car was being repaired and found the Courtyard online. It was a 20 minute walk away but well worth it. A really friendly cafe with friendly staff and very good service and food at a very reasonable price. I would definitely come back if I am. In the area again and will certainly recommend to friends and family.

What a great place. We called in for lunch today as a family of four with our dog. Very attentive staff. Served really quickly even though it was extremely busy. Food was lovely and reasonably priced. Would highly recommend to anyone visiting Sidmouth.

We were visiting Sidmouth this week and needed a meal and a loo. By chance we stumbled upon 'The Courtyard' which turned out to be a really lovely and lucky find. They have a room at the back which feels like open air and has a definite Mediterranean atmosphere. The fixtures and fittings were stylish and simple as well and being comfortable. My husband took his meal choice from the 'fauna' category - Burger, salad, chips and homemade coleslaw which he declared was delicious. I took my choice from the ''flora' category - goats cheese, walnut and sundried tomato salad. I am unable to eat bread (which normally accompanies this meal) so asked for vegetables instead. This was no problem for them - I expected a couple of carrots and maybe some broccoli. Instead I was given almost a second meal made up from about five different cooked vegetables. It was delicious. We were both full for hours afterwards. It was a very hot day and the waitress remained cheery and pleasant even though she was clearly suffering. The Courtyard is co-owned and run by a local couple who are very experienced in the industry and this shows. Highly recommended.

Visited from Wales yesterday. We were delighted with our meal. The fish was delicious and freshly cooked. Everyone was very friendly and the service was very good. Can recommend this place.

I visited with a friend after another friend recommended The Courtyard. The service was perfect, polite and prompt without being pushy. The food was excellent quality, beautifully prepared and served promptly. There were no downsides at all. The coffee was great too, not that nasty bitter stuff you get in Starbucks or Costa. Altogether a great experience.

My gluten free friend and I had lunch in here yesterday. We were a bit disappointed that the only gluten free lunches were sandwiches/panini etc but no hot meals. Anyway she ordered a gluten-free toasted sandwich (only white bread available). I had a very nice lunch. My poor friend started to have tummy pain an hour later. We had to return home, she was in pain most of the night, very disappointed as reviews are excellent.

The Sunday lunch was absolutely delicious I had the turkey and my husband had the pie and he said the same. The staff were very friendly and couldn't do enough to help. Will return next time in Sidmouth

No acknowledgement, kindness or any chance he was going to accommodate us. I totally understand if they are full but no need to be so rude in front of the whole cafe. Would not recommend if you want a friendly atmosphere.

A little gem just a couple of minutes up from the busy end of Sidmouth. Very warm welcome, clean busy restaurant with reasonable prices. Drinks arrived quickly ( impressed with the Cappuccino) and food followed shortly after. Good honest home-made food, attentive friendly service. Highly recommended

We visited as we were in the local area and found the restaurant on Goggle reviews. We used messenger to complete our booking, and Gill was very helpful. We both went for Sunday lunch the last sitting. The food and service were good.

Went here for breakfast and my wife had the smashed avocado on sourdough toast with sundries tomatoes and feta and I had the full English breakfast. My wife thought it was the best breakfast she’s ever had and we’ve been to many 5 star hotels including the 4 Seasons! Great food and great service - would definitely recommend

Great place for breakfast. We went on the first day of our holiday in Sidmouth and every day thereafter with whoever was staying with us. Warm welcome, warm and comfortable ambience, attentive service. Substantial well cooked breakfast options including specials. The Courtyard team brightened up a rather wet Sidmouth week.

So nice to find eating venues run by happy passionate people. We decided to visit Sidmouth after the Christmas Fun & Feast for a stroll in the sun by the sea. There’s a myriad of lovely streets to discover in Sidmouth. You name it and somewhere you’ll find an excuse to get your money out. We were planning to get lunch and The Courtyard looked just perfect, busy and laughter and banter to be heard when we opened the door. The food was very nice and reasonably priced. So if you like to eat in places where thought, love and attention is evident then give this place a go. We love it when we find places like this and congratulate them for their hard work and passion.

I absolutely love it here. I've been working in the area for a couple week's now and I keep coming back. The staff are so lovely and friendly and the food is brilliant. The rocky road is absolutely fantastic and by far the best I've ever had and the hot chocolate (chefs kiss). I can't recommend it here enough.

Happened across this place whilst staying in Sidmouth for the weekend and looking for breakfast, what a find!! Lucky to have arrived when we did or else we wouldn’t have had a table as it filled up with those already in the know! Super friendly and professional staff. Delicious food, poached eggs were done to perfection, can’t fault the food, large portions and delicious !

We arrived near closing time but they still gave us a warm welcome and made us feel at home. The vegan dishes were lovely. We had the vegan feta and falafel wrap which was so tasty, and the side salad was fresh and crisp. It was all well seasoned and delicious. Not just an afterthought to keep the pesky vegans happy! I’d love to go back and try the vegan homily pie or the non-fish & chips! But don’t worry, if you can’t live without meat there are plenty of choices for carnivores too!

Generous portions, spongey crispy yorkshire, crackling was spot on and service was very attentive and friendly. Overall, a lovely experience 😊 topped off with yummy rhubarb crumble!

A couple from my coach holiday came here and liked it, so I decided to try this restaurant for lunch - and I'm so glad I did! It's a short walk up the High Street from the seafront and main shopping area. A cosy little place with lovely traditional decor, a banquette with cushions in the window, and a little courtyard at the back. Even the ladies loo was nicely decorated in pink, and it was very clean. The atmosphere was easy-going and friendly, and obviously family and dog friendly too. Although the restaurant was almost full, the owner made me feel really welcome and found room for me on a nice table near the window. The menu offered a good and varied choice of starters, sharing platters and mains as well as lighter meals and sandwiches, and they serve alcoholic as well as the usual hot and cold drinks. Lots of vegetarian/vegan options. Ordered a jacket potato with goat's cheese and mushrooms, served with dressed salad and coleslaw, and a pot of tea. The salad was fresh, the potato well cooked, and the filling was so delicious! Generous portions too. Could not fault the prompt and friendly service. Very reasonably priced. Would definitely recommend this restaurant and would come here again!

The Courtyard looks like an ordinary cafe but the staff are very friendly and welcoming and the food that they serve is delicious and good value for money. A little out if the centre of town, the extra couple of minutes walk is well rewarded. We opted to sit inside but the garden was popular with other customers. We have no hesitation in recommending this cafe.

We always come here when we're in town visiting family. Great food and a really friendly welcome come as standard. With a range of vegan options and a buzzing, cheerful atmosphere there is no need for us to go anywhere else.

We stopped here on-spec for a lunch while we were in Sidmouth. And we're pleased that we did. Lovely little cafe - and busy too! The staff were friendly and attentive - and the food delivered. I had the jacket potato with mushrooms+stilton, and there were plenty of both - plus a dressed salad, and coleslaw. Very reasonably priced, too. Free wifi available too, which was a bonus as Sidmouth is dire for mobile networks.

Lovely find on a hot day last week - gorgeous food beautifully presented, great friendly service and fabulous decor. We really enjoyed our lunch, thank you (and the cheesecake and sticky toffee pudding were beautiful!)

A small restaurant in town. Sunday lunch menu offered meat and vegetarian option. We had a shared halloumi starter and roast beef main followed by lovely desert and coffee. There are three sittings for Sunday lunch and the 13.30 was full. Prompt and pleasant service in a friendly atmosphere. We had the ‘large’ portion which was more than adequate and with the accompanying vegetable ‘medium’ would have been fine. Lovely lunch despite the football result,

What a fabulous place. Excellent service and delicious food. I had the crab sandwich, all locally procured with the fresh crab’s caught off Lyme Bay and the fresh bread from the local bakery in Sidmouth. I’ve had many crab sandwiches throughout Devon, however this sandwich far exceeded all the other’s based on quality and value for money. Well done to the owners and staff. Absolutely beautiful full English breakfast and great specials. My wife, granddaughter and I had the full Courtyard and my daughter had the avocado, egg and sun ripe tomatoes on granary bread. Highly recommended.

A lovely and clean place where we had a great time, thanks to the kindness of our hosts. We enjoyed the dishes served and laughed a lot at the owner(?)'s humor. We will come back with great pleasure! Four frenchies and a white chihuahua 😄😉

Excellent small cafe serving breakfasts etc. It is well worth the walk from the south past other cafes nearby and there is a bus stop a little way up the road opposite if you are coming from Exeter. There are more tables out the back in the courtyard. Nice toilets too.

We had a lovely breakfast with our daughter - her final one whilst staying in the UK before heading home. The food was amazing and the service was great also. Very friendly staff. We had two full Courtyard breakfasts and one vegetarian one. Highly recommend and we will be visiting again soon.

Went for lunch all had panini’s which were served in beautiful bread topped with seeds, accompanied with salad and coleslaw. Very dog friendly! We have a cockapoo who is still quite young and nervous. They brought out a bowl of water and some biscuits. Staff were friendly.

Phenomenal. Had the crab sandwich with cheesy chips and it was delicious. Fresh local crab, fresh granary bread - divine! The people running it are wonderful too. We’ll be back!

Have been here several times before and enjoyed it. We have always come with our small dog. She always sits on my lap as my wife has anxiety and stress problems and needs to see her. We booked for Sunday lunch and duly arrived and were shown to our table. We ordered the Sunday roast. A member of staff came over and gave our dog a treat and placed it on the table. The food was served, and a man who was the owner came and said the dog must be on the floor as customers didn’t like it, but no one was complaining. As he walked away he said something to a female member of staff who laughed. We felt belittled by his remark. We ate our lunch, paid and left. They claim to be dog friendly but seemed to have changed since our last visit. I did message the Courtyard but the reply wasn’t what I would have liked especially as it ruined my wife’s birthday day out. Won’t be returning, plenty of other places in Sidmouth. Such a letdown. Discriminating against people with hidden disabilities.

Cozy courtyard seating hearty food with good and well-thought vegan options clearly marked on the menu. Recommend the "fishless and chips " which filled me up quite well (tofu based). Friendly and knowledgeable staff too. I find it hard to find vegan food that does not feel like an afterthought. But this place made me full and satisfied with their simple but hearty and delicious vegan "fishless and chips".

Best English breakfast in Sidmouth

I had found this restaurant from Google maps. It was worth the visit. I was greeted with West Crounty charm. I had the Goat cheese salad. It was excellent. The prices are very reasonable especially looking at its nearby restaurant neighbors.

I really liked this place! Decor was gorgeous! Staff were friendly and kind, menu was lovely, and the place was lovely and clean. Had such a nice feel to it! Had a brie n bacon panini and a cheeky cheesecake for desert! Really liked the chatty guy who took our order, (?owner?) He was funny and friendly! Have visited Sidmouth before but missed this place, glad our friends booked here! Made our day really special! Thank u! 😊

Excellent good food nice people but need to book Sundays

We searched quickly on my wife's phone and The Courtyard stood out on Tripadvisor. It's only slightly off the delights of Sidmouth High St. but thoroughly worth the detour. Its menu of home-cooked favourites was SUPERB. I had the bubble & squeek and my wife the steak & ale pie. Her chips were top-notch, I believe twice cooked. Couldn't resist the crumble to finish off. Terrific selection of music was playing (if you were 1970s vintage ..) and the waiting staff were friendly, courteous and good fun. Even biscuits for our Springer ! Thoroughly recommended.

Wow! So glad we popped in here and they were able to squeeze us in… we received a warm welcome and the staff are lovely! Great atmosphere, it felt like you were having breakfast with friends :) my partner had the eggs Benedict and I had the full courtyard (English), both cooked perfectly and the produce was clearly high quality. My new favourite place, can’t wait to try the rest of the menu!

A had delicious Sunday late breakfast over here and it was a very pleasant experience. The stuff we’re so friendly although I came at 11:30am but they did there best for me to enjoy there amazing English breakfast ( vegetarian ) dish.
