We’ve not been here for a little while and were pleased to see it had had a much needed update, it looked so much nicer inside and out. The food was good, service very quick and friendly enough.

Visited for a few weeks and by far this was the highlight of our stay in the U.K. great service and beautiful setting. Staff are very friendly and food was to die for. The Mac and cheese on the special was as good as the states. If your visiting the area give it a go.

The service in the restaurant was poor. Food was delayed and for the most, was inedible. I was upset and embarrassed as we had invited our family and friends for a special occasion which did not live up to expectations. We requested at least one ground floor room for my elderly father in law, this was also not delivered but only advised once guests had arrived. All in all an upsetting and very unsatisfactory experience.

Extremely disappointed! Revisiting after several years, cold, uninterested member of staff booked us in, infact none of the staff looked as if they wanted to be there. Waited well over 30mins for our food “dealing with yours next” said the Manager, in passing- no apology made. The cold chips served were sent back to the kitchen, my steak sandwich was barely warm and very chewy, Manager came to clear table, I hadn’t finished eating! he left the table. Didn’t see him or any staff again, no follow up with dessert menu etc., etc., we paid and left. Shocking sloppy standard, don’t deserve any custom with these standards! Will not be recommending! Any positive reviews must have been clearly selected, or a complete change of staff and management properly trained and managed.

We arrived at 2pm on a Monday afternoon for a birthday lunch after a walk. Found a table outside. Tried to use the QR system to order but it was not working so had to go to the bar. No menus around, so needed to find a member of staff. We were given evening menus. Had to ask again for the lunch menus, which was served for another hour. The bar was so dark that we had to go outside to read the menu. Multiple items were not available. Lots of tables inside & out were not cleared during our entire stay. The staff seemed to be working hard, but maybe not enough of them. The food was very expensive. The fish and chips were ok, but a burger was cold with a big thumb print in the bun. We had to ask for cutlery. They told us where it was, but I pointed out there were only spoons. They did offer to bring some out. The play area was roped off, so no fun for the kids. This place seems to have really gone downhill. In the past we have visited regularly and even stayed overnight. We haven’t visited in a while, and we won’t be returning. Can only imagine how bad it can get during their busy periods!

Lovely meal and waitress, before lunch I went to bar and bought 2 drinks before friends arrived, £15.60 for a glass of wine and half a cider, ok expensive but hey ho, got home and they’d added 10% gratuity to my bill, why was I not told about this? And also they only poured the drinks I got them from bar!!! Ps the food was really good and quite happy to pay the 10% for service.

Welcoming attentive staff from start to finish. We arrived early and were able to get seated. Robin and Ruby served us and were helpful and professional. We didn’t feel rushed between courses and the food was delicious and of good portion size. Thank you for a lovely birthday celebration with a loyalty bottle of Prosecco thrown in to enjoy.

We ordered At the bar a beer a tea and 2 bacon rolls. The barman explained how quick the food would be ready as half their food is precooked. We took the drinks ourselves to our table and 20 mins later the rolls turned up. The waitress unfortunately had to make mutiple return visits with cutlery, sauce and napkins after several more minutes. When I queried the non itemised bill the barman explained that the 'service' was automatically added. Given that the food was ordered at the bar and it took the waitress several trips to deliver the food, that did not really deserve a service charge. The bacon butty was simply a few scrappy pieces of bacon in a bog standard white roll. There appeared to be at least 5 members of staff and about 8 customers at the time. It seems that so many of these little outlets only employ their staff for a few days hence they never really learn what service means. Or they dont care. I will leave other customers to comment on the price.

Such a charming, country hotel. It's a bit off the beaten track, arriving at night we did wonder where we'd end up but on arrival were greeted warmly by lovely staff member, shown to our room (Kingfisher Room - which I think is there delux/best room). Private patio with horses outside in the morning. Hotel was decorated beautifully for Christmas. Food was brilliant with lovely chef serving us. Favourite place to stay in The New Forest and will absolutely be back!

Not overly impressed, the drive down to the pub was a little “bouncy” even in a truck which has been modified to travel off the beaten track. The place itself is pretty and the play area looks wonderful for children. The food wasn’t great, the asparagus starter had just one piece of asparagus (although this was the best course I received) the ravioli main course had no more than 8 pieces of ravioli and was massively overcooked. My daughter’s veggie sausages were burnt so she refused to eat them. After 3pm there is a 3 corses for the price of 2, we almost got charged for all 3, when we questioned the waitress, she said she didn’t put the discount on because she didn’t know how to…. Which is not acceptable for a table of 12 that’s a lot to add on! My G&T was almost £14 which is mad! We visit lots of places and don’t mind paying the higher end prices if it’s worth it, in this instance… it was not.

My husband and I had initial booking and communication difficulties using the computerised Brewery’s system which lead to an unfortunate last minute forced change of our plans that was obviously upsetting at the time. However, the management team at High Corner subsequently dealt with our situation with politeness and professionalism, as were the whole team we met during our stay , so we’d like to give a big thank you to you all . We enjoyed our stay and the standard of rooms, food and drink with the pubs position in the Forest make it a gem we will look forward to returning to and the ability to bring our dog adds extra stars on for us .

Very surprised to see some of the negative reviews regarding The High Corner Inn. This is the second time we have stayed here, the first in the suite room a couple of years ago. This time we did the “Muddy Paws” package and stayed in the King Double room, Tawny. The whole place has a very calm and quaint feel to it, with the staff being very warm and welcoming. The room was very clean and comfortable with everything we needed and the food was delicious with great portion sizes and efficient service! We all had a lovely 3 night stay and nothing was too much bother for any of the staff. A particular shout out to the waitress Ruby who was very good!! We will be sure to stay again very soon!

Used to come here all the time for what was an unbeatable Sunday roast. After today’s experience I won’t be coming back. £22 for a beef roast that was 70% fat and given to the dog. 3 roast potatoes that were half cooked, 2 parsnips and 1 scoop on carrot and swede mash. Chucked on some kale, cabbage and spring onions to make it look like a decent portion but wouldn’t have paid more than a tenner for it. My wife had a vegetarian roast. Served with no gravy (despite being listed as red wine gravy on the menu), waitress asked if we wanted anything else so I asked for gravy and it never came. £5.50 for a side portion of cauliflower cheese that was raw and left. Utterly terrible experience, couldn’t pay me to come back. Such a shame as it used to be the best carvery around.

We visited on Easter Monday. It was predictably busy and the owners had kindly let most of their staff have the day off, having had a busy weekend. Service was therefore slow at ordering and deliver of food. This was fine. The staff were polite and apologetic. I’ve no issue whatsoever with this. The problems started when we got our food. We ordered for 6 people including 1 desert for a child. The 1 dessert arrived 30 minutes before the rest of the order. We did ask the waitress to check on this but she never returned. Upon receipt of our meals, firstly the kids sausage and chips was missing peas and gravy. It took an age to explain that these should be included with the meal, we weren’t asking for extras. The kids pizza was shockingly small and didn’t come with chips at a cost of £7.95 for pizza and £4.95 for chips (from memory). The portion size was unacceptable. See photo. We would not return.

The High Corner Inn has been in this location for ages. It's obvious that Butcombes haven't been and they seem to still be finding their way and haven't yet reached harmony with all of their customers. They have invested significantly in the facilities, the loos are much better. Ok, I'm a bit niche, I've been riding my horse here for over 20 years, leaving the nag in the corralls whilst I have a cider or two and some cheesy chips. Last summer, we had Butcombes cheesy chips, apparently they were posh, cheesy white sauce on chips. Gross. So then the locals educated the new management and cheesy chips, in a bowl with melted cheddar was once more back on. Today, cheesy chips aren't possible. Posh (aka w*nk Butcombe chips) are on the menu, but the staff aren't "allowed" to make cheesy chips. Instead we had a meagre portion of chips for "loads of money" in stainless steel side pots, complete with "I saw you coming" Butcombe grease proof paper. Oh, and the staff can't actually bring your food to the table if you are in the garden. Maybe things will improve before the summer, here's hoping. Otherwise as always, a brilliant location.

This pub has been very popular for years and was ‘done up’ a few months ago. The interior is great and is much bigger than it used to be. Service was very good and staff were lovely. Food was a bit hit & miss - they had run out of pie of the day, the chocolate pudding and had no cheese. How can a pub run out of all cheese? There was a choice of mushy peas or curry sauce with the fish & chips : have not seen curry sauce offered before & think that a bit odd. I asked for some garden peas instead which came out after the main meal and only a very small handful. You can choose either a large or small portion of fish though which was good. Some of the desert options were bizarre - syllabic, treacle sponge and 2 other desserts were served together as one dessert on one enormous plate which looked a bit of a mess. Mini doughnuts were Biscoff paste inside were fiddly to eat and not a success for our group. Perhaps we caught them on a bad day good was adequate rather than good. Did not help that we were seated near to the door so we’re freezing cold everytime it opened.

Arrived and were shown to our table, nice chap however forgot to give us menus so we were sat waiting for 20 mins until someone came over and tried to take our food order, not too much stress, as we weren’t in a rush. Service after this was more attentive. We ordered the Camembert burger which I would love to say was amazing but it was pretty average especially for the price of £21.99 (£3 extra for bacon) the chutney in the burger was extremely overpowered by star anise I had to leave half the burger as it was just too much! My chips were cold. My partners chips were meant to be ‘posh’ however they came and they were normal and they forgot to ‘posh’ them up however they did rectify they and brought us extra. We finished with mini donuts which were wonderful! The wine was lovely too. Overall it was an average experience hence the 3 stars! Will try again for sure as love what you’ve done to the place and the Instagram food pics definitely shows you can do better ☺️

Nice location in the New Forest. The staff were friendly and helpful. I was disappointed with my Sunday roast as I had two small roast potatoes and not much veg and the beef did have some pieces I was unable to eat as way too chewy. The plate was swamped by a large Yorkshire pudding which was obviously intended to fill up the diner. I normally would not eat a Yorkshire Pudding but was given no choice. I would have preferred more vegetables and roast potatoes. I thought the cost of just short of £25 with the 10% surcharge was steep.

Excellent meal, good value and friendly service in a lovely location in this recently refurbished hostelry in the New Forest. A longish drive on a poorly maintained gravel road, but worth the detour! West chose delicious fish (haddock) and crunchy chips, and a tasty beef burger, accompanied by Butcombe’s pale ale.The only gripe was the choice of puddings as I expected a more traditional selection - in fact they are labeled “pudding” on the menu but are really “desserts” or “sweets” - such as fruit crumbles, pies or steamed sponges. But that is just my preference !

We decided to book an overnight to stay on the recommendation of friends, who previously told us how nice it was to dine at the Inn and sit in the bar area until late into the evening, enjoying the ambiance of the Inn! You can imagine our disappointment when we arrived to check-in (looking forward to dining and whiling away the evening in the bar) to be asked by the lady who greeted us, had anybody from the Inn been in contacted with us to advise of changes to the dining room and Bar opening hours that evening – i.e. Restaurant closing at 8pm and Bar closing at 9pm, to which I advised her that we had not been contacted, or advised of these changes to the published times. Clearly this was not acceptable as this would have meant retiring to our room at 9pm, which defeated the whole point of our stay! Therefore, we had no option other than to instruct the lady that was checking us in (who was extremely embarrassed!) to cancel our booking on the basis that The High Corner Inn had changed its operating hours and failed to notify us in advance of our arrival. Having made the booking several months ago, also having completed the on-line express check-in link sent to me on the morning of our stay, at no time were we contacted, or notified of the changes to the Inn’s opening times. Frankly, we found this level of service to be extremely annoying, very frustrating, disappointing, and extremely unprofessional! Furthermore, I twice attempted to contact the Inn Manager, and the Butcombe Pubs & Inns head office to lodge my complaint and seek their feedback from a customer service perspective, no response was forthcoming, which does not reflect well on the establishments management, or the Pub Chain. In summary, we booked a room in good faith expecting the Inn to be operating to normal published hours, clearly the late change in opening times failed to meet our requirements. We then had to find alternative accommodation elsewhere, where a full restaurant and bar service was available, which we did using another Pub Chain establishment, who couldn’t have been more helpful and demonstrated exemplary customer service. Footnote; We did eventually receive an apologetic email from the Manager, offering us a future complimentary overnight stay at our convenience.

The only thing I would say is I wasn’t a fan of the music in the pub and at breakfast. I don’t think it is in keeping with the pub. Also the rooms permit dogs and there is beautiful cream carpet in the hallway that was covered with dirty paw marks. Not great for the other guests. We also arrived back late and the dog started barking. I am not sure they should be permitting dogs as it will ruin the beautiful investment they have made in re-doing the rooms.

Unbelievable experience. Came here with my family as a remembrance to my dad I lost in December last year. It was his favourite pub so would have been very special and we were all determined to have the remembrance day there. Upon arrival, the bartender simply said “you’re the man who left the 1 star review, we won’t be serving you or your party”. From then on, was simply “go away” “we don’t want you”. At first, I understood the business’ frustration, but upon further investigation into the review my family friend had left, i found that he had been trying to contact them for over 2 weeks and couldn’t. This is ALL the review stated, that he couldn’t get hold of anyone for a long period of time to book the event, NOTHING else. Which, is an experience and thus, review worthy! (After leaving the review, they did call back, funny that.) He also received an email CONFIRMING that they had accepted the group and will be serving us. This is what is totally unacceptable, to refuse service is one thing, but to bait over 20 people (some travelling over 200 miles!) into an event you CONFIRM, only to turn them away on the day? That is just a disgrace. I have worked in Hospitality for over 8 years and never have I seen such pettiness and negligence from a business.

Whatever the misunderstanding they were not interested in resolving it. Disappointed, we all left and went to the Royal Oak at Fritham (10 minute drive) where we all had an excellent lunch.

Had an almost unbelievable experience at the high corner inn today. The manager (who wouldn’t give us his name, only “go away”) turned our entire party (20 people) away because someone in the party had left a 1* review after initially struggling to get a hold of them to book a table. As soon as we walked in, “the manager” asked if he was the person who left a 1* review and straight away refused to then serve anyone. How a business can operate in this manor is baffling. We had people in this party travelling from as far as Colchester to meet at the High Corner Inn for a remembrance lunch and a walk in the new forest. To simply refuse to serve anyone in the group because of a one 1* review is shocking. In my opinion, the obvious thing to do was to serve the group and then ask to amend the review to reflect the new experience? Instead, the manager threw his toys out of the pram because he wasn’t happy with a 1* review. Because of how the whole ordeal was handled, the high corner inn will certainly be receiving a few more 1* reviews. Appalling behaviour from a customer facing business.

We booked in advance for a set table for Sunday lunch. 5 mins before the booked time as we were driving down the lane to the Inn, we were called to be told they had sold out of all types of Sunday roast. We found that puzzling as surely any organised establishment could ensure that there would be sufficient roasts for actual bookings made. When we arrived we were given a table right in the middle of the thoroughfare from one room to another two room (and the toilets) and despite there being other visibly empty tables we were not allowed to sit at a corner table out of the way. We chose to leave. Disappointed. Unsatisfactory, not particularly helpful on two counts. That we were prepared to consider alternate menu options despite the lack of Sunday roast, we believe sufficient notice should have been given so that we wouldn’t have had to make a relatively long trip to get there. More disappointed that they couldn’t at least show some goodwill in light of the failure to have sufficient Sunday roasts to allow us a slightly quieter table. The location deserves a lot better.

Not your normal pizza but so so good (we had the sundried tomato, mozerella and pesto pizza). Sadly it was a bit rainy when we arrived so we sat indoors, but the outside area was beautiful. Fab play area for the kids (although currently closed), lots of benches, what looked to be an outside bar - and New Forest ponies poking their heads over the fence to say hi!

We were given a warm welcome at the High Corner. This is a beautiful pub with a large garden. The Butcombe bitter was in superb condition. There is an interesting food menu which is almost very good. From a personal perspective I hate seeing the word "slaw" rather than coleslaw even though I do not like it anyway and it seemed to be included with everything. The chimmichurri sauce was very heavy on onion, otherwise the meal was very good and reasonable value. However, take off the generous coleslaw and sauce and there is not much left.

Well what can i say except you need to change your manager the young lady called herself Amy .We went for a small bike ride and a beer and we where told to get table number and order form the outside bar and the young lad was very polite and pleasant .Ordered the drinks no problem two coronas and a cider simple enough order paid and sat down .I sat down looked at reciept and thought that was cheap for three beers £8.60 .Lady comes out with two coronas no cider and we asked where this was. This is where it goes wrong .Get told in a rather stroppy stern voice that we did not order a cider so we ask what do we do to get the cider and she tells me to follow her to the bar that we wernt allowed to order from earlier and pay again for the cider .Now its the price i expected .As i am walking with the young lady to the bar i ask to see the girl who took our order to be told she is on her break now and that they expect customers to have more patience .I replied your trying my patience making me walk to the bar again and your srky comment.I was gobsmaked anyway paid and got drink .Then we decided to have another drink so same thing go to outside bar and order same drinks again .Witress comes out this time with the cider but this time two pints of grolsch no corona but its the same one that made the sarky comment earlier .We explain calmly that we required two coronas not grolsch AND WE ASK FOR IT TO BE CHANGED politly .We explain this is the second order they have got wrong anyway she goes of and come s back with the same two pints and i explain i want corona not grolsch .She the accuses me of being rude which i most defiantly was not i did not raise my voice or swear at all .I explain that complaining that you have got the order wrong for a second time is not being rude it is making a point , She is obviously not happy and tells me we can have a refund and again i say to her i just want the two coronas to which now my mate has walked of as he said it too much hassle .I then ask to see the manager to which she replies i am the manager and a this point i give up .She then tells me she dosent like my attitude and leave her pub .I go to bar to gt refund and now i cant have it has to be the same card so i get get that and am refunded .Upon leaving the young polite barman decides to follow me into the garden and again unfortunatly he starts being very sarcastic as im leaving .This time i did swear at him from the car park calling him a chirpy little f-ker and wants to be quiet .We had such good expectations of this nice country pub and feel very let down with the handling of the whole situation .If you would like me to call the area manager please include your phone number in your reply as im sure the manager girl will give you a different version .If this review is removed as i named someone i will just repost it with out her name

31/05/21 We decided an impromptu trip out for a pint and a bite to eat this afternoon. Knowing the high corner had changed ownership we decided to give it a try. Although we didn’t book, and it was extremely busy, they found us a table in the garden after a short wait. The young lady that served was absolutely flat out, but explained the situation & there may a little longer wait than normal. Although the menu was limited (full menu due soon apparently) there was still a good choice. The fish & chips was excellent. Others had pizzas which they said were v good. Drinks were excellent - I do enjoy a pint of Burcombe!! All in all, considering it’s a new menu and they are learning the ropes, I really can’t complain at all. Staff were trying really hard - shame that some customers weren’t quite so understanding!! We need to be supporting this industry, not knocking it! We’ll be back

We spent an amazing Sunday afternoon at this pub over bank holiday weekend. We were seated inside by the bar and had a unique view of how the staff worked tirelessly to keep a fully booked up pub running. The staff were extremely polite, courteous and professional at all times even when they had to deal with a few miserable customers! On the hottest and busiest day of the year I couldn’t believe that people were moaning about having to wait for drinks or food! We have just come out of lockdown and the staff were coping brilliantly- next time people want to have food within 5 minutes of ordering go to macdonalds! The Butcombe ales tasted great, so much so we had more than we were meant to! Amy and the rest of her team were brilliant and I can’t recommend this pub or the staff highly enough. 5*

The blond lady on the front door was both rude & cold on our recent visit! The pub lacked clear Covid direction and if you are reliant on someone being on the door to aid with this, then it’s helpful they’re actually there, rather than turning up once already sat down and providing a rude first impression. I had high hopes for this pub, we won’t be back!

My wife and I visited for lunch. The waiting staff were friendly. My wife had the egg, ham and fries and I had the beef and ale pie and fries. Although the food was of an acceptable standard, it was fairly mediocre. It is difficult to say these days whether the Covid situation has adversely affected standards as, in the recent past, it appears that this establishment had many very satisfied customers. The Inn is situated down an unpaved road in the middle of the Forest. We saw three fallow does and a sorrel buck on the way down to the Inn. In summer, on a warm sunny day, this place must be idyllic! We shall visit again after the Covid restrictions have been lifted so as to give the place an opportunity to show just what level of cuisine it can produce.

We booked here for a meal for my husbands birthday. We had eaten here previously and enjoyed it. I don't know what happened but our meal was terrible. We were sat in what can only be described as a fly ridden dungeon, there was absolutely no atmosphere to the place at all. The table was slightly sticky and the area did not seem very clean, As for the food, the starters were okay but unloved, we had the ham hock terrine which was okay, dressing on the salad would have livened it up a little and a nicer bread than thin slices of slightly stale baguette would have been welcome. My daughter had the halloumi fries which were okay but unremarkable. Then it all went downhill. My daughter and I had ordered the roasted cauliflower curry, this had the consistency of baby food and no taste, even the rice was mushy, at least the chapatti was hard to give it texture!! The best bit was the tomato and onion salad on the side. My husband ordered the buttermilk chicken burger which was not a chicken breast but a reconstituted battered chicken burger and very underwhelming. The staff were disinterested at best and didn't seem at all surprised when we commented on the food not being great. To add insult to injury this was the most expensive meal of our stay in the New Forest. All in all we left feeling sad and disappointed. Having since read other reviews it seems that our experience was not unique and I am awaiting the standard dismissive response from the proprietor.
