Hickory's Smokehouse Poynton in Cheshire East

Took 88yr old mother for Mother’s Day, pre booked and asked for away from door drafts and steps . Given table15 ft away from main door in line with door . Seat too low for table , moved and given one by window told radiators on and were not , was behind wall by front door and cold and drafty, I sat on lower seat and too low to eat comfortably. Food well over priced for what you get in fact should have been almost half the price as get more plenty of other places . Tables too close together so cramped up as well . First and last time visit there . Chicken gumbo had hardly any chicken in it and only four small sausage slices and far spicier than a hot curry so not nice at all £17.99 , salmon dish £21.50 and small piece and not much else with it

I always find it quite telling when businesses only reply to the good reviews Very quiet when we visited. Poor service . Waiting ages when finished mains for table clearing, more drinks, desserts. Over promising manager. I apparently had a problematic drinking issue on ordering another glass of wine, as per the waiter. Pretty rude and shocking

We went for my daughter’s 18th family meal , the food was amazing, but the staff were even better they made my daughters day , really couldn’t have been happier with how we were treated , thank you

We've visited Hickorys many times over the years at a few different locations. I remember when Hickorys used to make customers feel special, and that the staff had a genuine interest in having a chat with customers. It seems that no one is really interested in the service anymore. We were greeted at the front desk and taken to our table. The person who took us didn't even crack a smile. Ordered the food, and it arrived fairly quickly, so no problem there. Not one person came to check on us whilst eating to see if everything was OK. The plates were taken when we finished, still no question from the server to ask how our food was. Even when we paid the bill, we weren't asked. On the way out 4/5 staff members were at the door exit. Not one of them said goodbye, thank you or anything. It's such a shame that this restaurant chain has gone down hill. It would appear that when it was bought out, the large chain that now own it just want to profit as much as possible. It's a shame, but we won't be returning.

Personally wasn't a huge fan of the food I thought it was quite bland. However the staff were great, the atmosphere was fun and I had a great evening.

Usually use the Wilmslow branch as it’s closer but as it was booked out, I used the Poynton one and wasn’t disappointed. I had the beef rib as always which was succulent and stunning, onion rings always delicious and desert was a cookie dough. Decent service, decent price. Happy trip.

An absolute must if you have even the slightest inclination towards BBQ food - incredible food (the BBQ platter is MORE than enough for two people), super friendly staff and great atmosphere. Couldn't recommend enough.

I had the frickles and spicy rice. They were tasty enough My daughter enjoyed her Macc and cheese but was a bit disappointed at how small the bacon bits were Her partner enjoyed his waffles and bacon

We came in today for my boyfriends birthday, Paige, our server was exceptional, she was lively and friendly and made us laugh- as well as being very attentive, however my mother had phoned up ahead and arranged a sparkler happy birthday celebration for my boyfriend, and I had approached somebody at the server station to clarify that it was arranged and headed to our table, which he confirmed it was, sat, waited, paid the bill, nothing, we had 3 courses mind you so there was time, needless to say I’m upset for my boyfriend because this meal was in honour of his birthday, but thank you to Paige for doing everything you can to make our experience positive despite this

1st ever visit and loved the food and atmosphere,service was great,restaurant busy but service was quick and the unlimited popcorn to keep us going was very welcome,definitely worth a visit.

Brisket is 🤩🤩🤩 Corn dogs are unbelievable. Seriously terrific food. Cocktails very good and the 2 for £12 is plainly a bargain these days. Service was inattentive and slightly impersonal but came out full, happy, impressed and not too out of pocket. A win. Lots of birthday parties and everyone was having a blast - would definitely go for an occasion.

We visited the Poynton restaurant yesterday. The food was lovely however we ordered 6 main meals , 2 came then there was a 10 min wait for the rest . It spoilt the meal for us really , such a shame as the food was lovely however but it’s a bit embarrassing for 2 people to be eating and everyone else waiting

Amazing food and amazing staff. However waiting 45 minutes to have a table cleared we had to leave ordering anymore drinks or desserts sadly. We felt invisible and had no server for a long period of time. Even when we got the bill we had to wait even more time for a card machine. Great food but felt very neglected

I love Hickory Smokehouse so much!! I’ve been to the one in Chester & I love that the servers & members are so kind & welcoming.Unfortunately I didn’t get the guys name who served us but he was amazing it’s our first time inside because in Chester we were outside & it was so cosy.Live music & the football on which my boyfriend loved & we were seated closer to the bar which I loved. Love my Pina Colada/Strawberry Daiquiri my favourite drink when coming here,I used to be a well done steak lover until I got medium well & it did not disappoint. FAVOURITE IS THE CHICKEN WINGS (Louisiana Hot) reminiscing about them right now. I will give all my money to this place only IF I could. Cannot wait to visit again I AM YOUR BIGGEST FAN! thanks to my bf yet again!

Excellent Gluten Free menu! Staff are knowledgeable, service is fast even when it's busy. There's nothing to fault with this place. I love it.

We went for my sons 7th birthday, when we arrived we were taken to our table, then our waitress (Chloe who was amazing the whole time,nothing was too much trouble she went above and beyond, she was amazing with us and our children) to see if we would like drinks to show the children where the cinema room was and bring free popcorn 🍿 for the children and adults. The drinks selection was amazing and the drinks everyone chose, they thoroughly enjoyed. We all ordered our meals i has the steak i think it was cowboy steak, it was amazing the flavour the texture 👌 the fries were spot on the peppercorn sauce was delicious, the mushroom was delicious, some of the other meals ordered were, rack of ribs, platter for one, chicken. The milkshakes we had were lovely too. Well done everyone Thankyou And thank you Chloe for helping make Hezekiahs birthday a special one.

Just been for lunch at Hickory’s Poynton today 19/02/2025. 2 adults and 4 kids and wanted to take a minute to say how wonderful our waitress Chloe was today. She was welcoming, bubbly and absolutely fantastic with the kids. Nothing was too much to ask and the kids all commented on how smiley and lovely she was. Wonderful staff member. Thank you.

If you have not been here before be prepared for the noise!! I gave three stars as the food was superb and all six of us were happy with all the food. However the music was that loud where we sat I couldn’t hear the person next to me, let alone those further down the table and no hope trying to communicate with the host. I did mention in the special request that some of the party had autism but next time I would specifically request to be seated at a table that was not under a speaker. It could also be better when you can sit outside to get away from the din. The table wasn’t ready when we arrived, although we were slightly late, the host was very very busy so service was very slow and then kind of asked while rushing past if everything was ok giving no chance to actually say, it took five mins to bring us a fresh roll for our hands which really should be checked when setting the table. They did a nice job of bringing out my daughters birthday cake which had a huge sparkler in it. I would return as the food was amazing but this evening was ruined by the loudness of the music, I left feeling like I had been bashed round the head with a pair of cymbals all night and it was a relief to leave.

We had been trying to book Hickory’s for both mine and my daughters birthdays but didn’t manage to get booked at a good time so we were excited and really looking forward to coming today. Booked on website with no problem, received a nice welcome and were seated, right next to the door to the cinema so children were running back and forth past us every few minutes, screaming for mummy or daddy. 15 mins after being seated, a waitress appeared to take our drinks order, then another 15 mins later our food order was taken. We ordered giant garlic pretzels to share as a starter and OMG they were amazing! (That’s were the 1 star comes from) I was looking forward to my mains arriving but was quickly disappointed, daughters smash burger was so sweet she could only eat less than half, the chips so over salted that we couldn’t eat them either, my brisket sub was more pepper and onion than brisket, that much sauce that the bread was wet 🤢. The onion rings were good but not £5.75 good! The meal cost just under £60 but £2 over with the tip they added on. Left feeling disappointed that it was so bad and annoyed that despite mentioning it to the waiter that took our plates he did nothing but shrug. Definitely won’t be returning, really don’t see what people like about it except the pretzels!

The food was excellent, service was very professional and the atmosphere was very welcoming, rack of ribs and barbecue sauce chicken were superb, the highlight for me was the freckles,yummy

Food is great, we always enjoy coming there, but the thing with the automated tip jar?!? Tipping is not mandatory and should be decided by the client, not the restaurant. Also, the service is not alwaya good, yet tip jar is always added to the bill. Not good, Hickory's!

3rd time here and sadly losing it’s appeal. Food was delicious the first time 2nd and 3rd just ok. Always asked to wait at the bar before being seated for at least 15-30mins even when booked and arrived on time, staff seem not to care. Went on a monday twice and a Thursday. No worth the trip out.

Was there on Saturday 18th January and sat at the Chef’s table was around 6:30pm. We were given samples of beef brisket, the chef was a white male with an beard and just had a lot of positive energy about him. There was another male, tall, slim build, mixed race and his job was to put things in the oven and slice the brisket. They were both just great, could tell they worked together well and were happy in their work. Plenty of appropriate banter between them which was really good to see. At first when we arrived and they said we could sit there I was hesitant but I needn’t have been it was was good experience. The waiting on staff were a bit slow but to be fair it was very busy.

we ordered a few appetisers ! the hot honey was the star of the show for me ! deffo recommend for a quick bite on an icy day :) service was lovely and helpful . also the free popcorn was a great starter . we also noticed how great a vegetarian and GF selection there was !!! (not that we used it at all)

This is mine and my partners go to for food and drinks every time. The atmosphere and food are spectacular and it helps the staff who deliver it are super attentive and lovely. The food menu has plenty of options for all different tastes, we always go for the bacon bites and tacos to start because they are divine. While its pricier than you’re average meal out, the quality speaks for itself and in my opinion is worth every penny. Their cocktail menu has great variety and their hard cherry colas keep us coming back every time ..to the point now our servers already know what we are going to order before we are even sat hah. Special shoutout to the bar staff, particularly Lexi, who always greet us with a smile and make the best drinks. They made adjustments for us where they could when their cellar flooded and our favourite drink was off the menu. It seems like a really great work environment to work in despite how busy it gets and as a result it translates into the brilliant service we receive. Thanks guys!

Food is lovely and the wait staff are really friendly and helpful but there was a really long wait for everything. The super slow service is the only reason it's not 5 stars. Also not keen on them automatically adding the tip jar. You have to ask for it to be removed or they will charge you an automatic service charge. Tipping should be at the discretion of the client not the restaurant.

Absolutely addicted to this restaurant!!!! We keep coming and coming and never ever let down! Cater for GF folks too so even better for me! So delicious and not to mention the staff. So friendly and helpful! Thank you team for such an amazing service!

Return visit for lunch as a group of 5 (3 adults and 2 children) in early January, have been several times in the past. Food was very good and service fine too, no complaints at all and would happily go back.

Disaster of an experience and such a shame as I have a long history with this place since working there in the late 80's My last visit was a solo late lunch after a day on the hills and I was looking forward to some great food. I was sat and left to wait and wait. Not even offered a drink. Staff were walking past in pairs dawdling and chatting. There was a big group of staff around the front door laughing and joking and still i sat and waited. After 15 minutes I went to this large group of staff near the door and asked if someone could serve me? The response was a very bored, irritated "Yes ok" The staff were enjoying the laughs and the banter just didn't want to do any work.

Been here twice and they haven’t disappointed. Really nice dishes and flavoursome. Lovely starters, mains and desserts! 💕oh and drinks.

Can't thank the team enough for the most amazing Christmas Eve meal! Warmly greeted, great festive atmosphere, friendly service and of course, INCREDIBLE food! It gets a bit crazy by the movie theatre for the kids, so as adults only, it would be great to sit in a more calm area (we constantly had kids running past!) But it didn't take away from our great meal. Will definitely be back.

Birthday meal for 15 year old. Slight wait for table and bar area is very small. Service once seated excellent. Food is really good. Nice touch at the end when a doughnut with cream was brought and staff sang happy birthday..... really nice. Staff serve with a smile and nothing seems too much trouble.... even on a very busy night like tonight.

We visited Hickorys for our Christmas treat and loved every minute Friendly and attentive staff, lovely female singer, and gorgeous food We chose the sharing platter for two x2 and added some extra sides, and there was plenty for 5 of us. Everything was cooked to perfection and flavoured beautifully. Reasonably priced as well at just £40 per person, including drinks and 3 desserts. Definitely somewhere we will return. Thanks

Update to this review. The manager contacted me, and all the issues were discussed. He was courteous and informative, so we'll be visiting again in the New year We visited here earlier this month for a family meal. 5 adults, a 3 year old and a 1 year. Sadly not the best experience. We were seated in the bar because of the size of our party, no other family groups were in this area. They placed the high chair at the end of the table, in the walkway so it was in the way of of any one passing by, including the servers. So drinks, hot food etc were frequently lifted over my grandsons head whilst they passed each other. Not exactly safe. And the reason we had to sit here was because when we added the 3 year old, we were told she classed as an adult for seating. It was too noisy for a proper conversation, with 2 televisions and customers cheering the NFL game. On a separate note, the baby changing area needed some attention, (overful bin) and I did mention this to a member of staff. At least the food was good but I'll definitely think twice before booking here again.

Staff were amazing, so very attentive and treated all kids to special "shots" as we arrived a little early. Food as usual was very well presented and delicious. Birthday boy had a lovely sparkler dessert with happy birthday song. Extremely pleased Well Done Hickories

Every year we come and do breakfast with Santa since having our little boy and every year it is so, so good. The grotto is always done so nicely. Santa and the elves are always so lovely, warm and welcoming. Also, as always with Hickory’s the food is beautiful too. Thank you for such a lovely experience for our little man!

I had the brunch pancakes, which were thick, dry & doughy. Barely any maple syrup to help eat these & the bacon / bacon bites were mainly fat. I won't be back for brunch in a hurry or ever & it's put me off trying their main courses. My partner (vegetarian) had fajitas which looked okay, but the vegan 'meat' lacked any taste. The staff, on the other hand were very pleasant & attentive & service was quick even though it was very busy.

Went for Hubbies 50th Birthday we were a party of 8 and we couldn't fault it, Food was great and the staff were amazing nothing was to much trouble and even a birthday donut at the end too, we had a great night and will definitely be back. Tysm for making our evening an extra special one. If I could give more than 5 stars I would 🥰

Been here a few times usually have a good experience but tonight we got the shared platter which came out cold and was missing brisket and the japeono sausage. It was really busy, and we couldn't get a waiter, so we checked the menu online and assumed it had been changed and those items removed. Was pretty disapointed considering the cost of the food. When we did finally get a waiter he did try to make it right by offering some free marshmallows, and after bit of back and fourth he discounted the meal. Would want to come again but perhaps avoid it when its really busy as it's just manic and noisy with people shouting at a the football game.

Great food, fantastic at catering for my partner's gluten-free needs

Food was reasonable. However, the service wasn't great. The worse part was being sat directly under a very loud speaker with terrible sound quality. I asked for it to be turned down but it kept creeping back up. Towards the end of the meal I couldn't wait to get out of there.

Came here with my girlfriend for our anniversary meal. From the greeting at the door to the drink at the bar while we waited to get seated everyone was lovely and the cocktails on offer and the ones we got were amazing! When we got to the table there was a lovely piggy with happy anniversary written on it which was a lovely touch (we named the Snarfel for the duration of the meal). Our server was Ruby who was amazing and extremely polite and attentive and was fantastic. We ordered more cocktails and ordered the Platter for two, it was amazing, great variety and well worth the money, could not have eaten anymore! For pudding we had the frozen custard (Fro-co on the menu) which was a great pudding then we were surprised by Ruby with a board that had happy anniversary written in powdered sugar on it and a donut with cream and a candle and sparkler this was an extremely lovely surprise! And was very much appreciated. There were two other servers while we ate a Gentleman and another lady whose names I did not catch who were also very nice. Also the memorabilia/decorations around the restaurant are a fantastic touch which I did not know about before going. I loved it, as a geeky human my personal favourite is the Nuka Cola cap on the wall near the bar. All in all can’t say enough nice things about this place from the amazing service from Ruby and the rest of the staff we encountered who were extremely friendly especially during a busy diner service to the amazing presentation of the food and great quality of what we received and the fantastic restaurant. I will definitely be coming back and thank you for making this a memorable evening.

One of my favorite restaurants to eat in the UK. Never had a bad meal here and the staff has always been accommodating and lovely.

Very meat oriented (as you'd expect) but enough for vegetarians. Lovely staff, sang Happy Birthday for our granddaughter and she got a sparkler and birthday message (in icing sugar) with her dessert. The Frickles (deep fried gherkins) are well worth trying (though I think next time I'd share them!) Back for our grandson's birthday this time. Very similar experience, lovely staff, good food, and a fuss made of our grandson: he loved it.

They do things in a fun style so flags, popcorn and movie for the children. A big choice of drinks for adults and the food is tasty. TV is on one side. Music on for the rest. The down side is sometimes too loud and is a bit expensive.

The restaurant captures the atmosphere of an 70's-80's US smokehouse so perfectly, you'd doubt you're still in the UK - until the staff's accent gives the game away. We visited the day after Halloween and besides the outside decor, some of the waitresses had cool costumes/make up. The tables were a bit small (a box for 4 could fit barely fit us and the food almost didn't fit the table and would hardly accommodate even two "big" americans), but comfy. The atmosphere was lively without being too noisy. Among the 4 of us, we ordered two starters, one meal and a menu for two and had found it difficult to eat all of it, but it was so tasty we had to try... Had we ordered a full meal for everyone, we'd have to be rolled away!

We usually have great food, but not tonight (Thurs 7 Nov). My burger was completely tasteless, and the outer sides of it were burnt on the griddle/pan. The fries with cheese did not taste of fries with cheese - but did taste unpleasant, though I could not identify the taste. My husband’s chicken wings, and the battered chicken, were really really salty. He said his other meat was salty too. The only nice parts of the food were the corndog/bread? and the pork sausage. Very disappointing. We didn’t even feel we could take what we could not eat home to the dogs (which we would normally do). We feel this is our last meal at Hickory’s. Incidentally, nobody came at any time to ask if everything was ok. Nor when we paid did the lad ask us then. Nor were we given the usual device to input our feedback whilst there.

Visited on a Friday night, the live music made the evening and that's saying something because the food was absolutely spectacular. The basket of chicken and bacon bits were fantastic we'll definitely be back.

This is a review from a person who would never choose to visit a place like Hickory's ! My 11 year old grandson had a birthday meal there and guess what? I quite enjoyed it. Yes it's hot, noisy , crowded and the smell of smoked food permeates the whole place. And I don't like BBQ sauce. But the sea bass was good, the beer acceptable and the service excellent. The cinema room was also a great attraction for the 5 young grandkids. All in all a successful birthday meal and the kids loved it

Incredible service, great food and the manager was very knowledgeable about allergies.

I ordered a hot chocolate and when i was nearly finished drinking it I saw a black thing in my drink and turns out it was a bee so they said they would go and get me a new drink but they came back and it was the same drink they just added more hot chocolate to it.

Booked for a birthday. Large party of 10. One of our orders was cold so i had to wait whilst they cooked a replacement. Nice touch with the birthday greeting on the dessert. Sea bass serving was quite small but tasty.

Absolutely disappointed. Me and my freind chose stake house share but unfortunately the food was horrible. The meat wasn’t fresh and very dry and stringy. The fries also were dry elastic. We didn’t even touched the beans with meats, almost all of them and taste horrible . Charged a lot for money.

Had a horrible experience ,Food wasn’t fresh and hot ,looked horrible, rotten and taste even worse.not one element on the plate was right My friend and I left the food and came home hungry ,would never go back there anymore Even fries wasn’t fresh and this wasn’t their first time. Food looked like coming out of bin ,it was a bit late at night but I wouldn’t serve food if I don’t have fresh one , Totally horrible experience and waste of money, and for such an awful food, we have been charged a lot. Came home and throw up and even thinking about it now make me sick. I should not paid at all.

Called in for an unexpected lunch, as a result didn’t have ear defenders with us which we normally bring for our autistic son. Hickory’s Poynton were fantastic, super accommodating, found us a nice quiet table which is a difficult ask in a busy restaurant, offered to lower the music a little and even managed to produce a spare pair of defenders which helped him massively. Not our first visit to here or Wilmslow which is also fairly local, but it certainly won’t be our last. We’ve had excellent experiences at both venues.

From start to Finnish 5 star service with 5 star food. Brand new menu with all the great food you guys serve and excellent tastes all round. Thankyou to all the staff excellent job, be back soon.

We used to come to Hickorys every week, especially for NFL but we came on Sunday lunchtime for our son's birthday. Sadly the service from newer staff is poor, we only saw our waiter twice then he disappeared. No check backs, 1 missing meal that arrived 5 minutes after the others. We are sad that clearly it's gone downhill. Food wasn't as good as we had previously had either. We will be back on on Sundays but doubt we will be back as a family 😒

Cannot fault the staff here. They are so friendly, helpful, nothing is too much trouble. This is our go to place for when we have dinner with the kids, food choice is great, they love the milkshakes and marshmallows. No wonder it’s always so busy with families.

UPDATE: Only fair that I update my review from 5 months ago. We visited again yesterday and it was a complete turnaround! Service was fast, attentive and friendly. The atmosphere was great with live music later on. Our whole family had a great time. The food was absolutely spot on, a huge improvement since last time. Everyone really liked their meals. (Smoked brisket sub was amazing!) The kids mini cinema was much better and a spillage was being cleaned while we were there too. It seems to have really turned around in these last few months and it showed in every aspect. Well recommended. **Old review from early 2024** The first couple of times we came here it was really good, but the last couple of times it's really gone downhill. The food was just ok, where it used to be excellent. Prices are still slightly higher than a regular pub-resturant, so you do expect the food to be a bit better. Service was fairly fast from the point of ordering, but we had to get up 3 or 4 times to find someone to ask for sauces, or drinks or cutlery because they seemed to congregate and not look over the tables enough. Previous visits I don't remember this being an issue. The mini cinema that the kids love was a brilliant novelty the first few times we came. It's still a novelty to them, but they seem to come back covered in ice cream/frozen yoghurt each time now. The furnishings in the cinema seem to have taken on a permanently sticky state. In fact, the whole place felt a bit tired. This last visit there seemed to be a lot more loud sweary people in the place. Even some with their own kids. I was a bit wary of our 5 year old overhearing a stream of F bombs, which I wasn't expecting at 4:30pm. This could have been just unfortunate timing, but it wasn't just one party. There was a crowd of lads at the tables out front who made the outside play area a no go due to the conversation and volume. Overall, I felt like that was probably our last visit. It didn't feel like the place to take the kids to and enjoy some better than normal food out anymore.

Disappointed from the offset. Welcoming staff with attitude about the table. The kids had run into the cinema. We were TOLD to go to the bar. Erm wait. My kids are in the cinema. I have been many times for them and sat just outside to keep my eye on them. Have u tried getting them out at that age. We just said we didn't mind as we needed to be near the kids. They minded. The table wasn't dirty just needed cutlery. . I actually spoke to the manager. He was OK. Didn't really seem to bothered. So I'm OK. Getting on with our lunch. Calmed down. Kids were OK watching the film . Waitress came over and spilt drinks all over us.my clothes. My phone the table and floor . The server said I will knock it off your bill. She didn't. Unfortunately it will be a long time before we come back. Not a happy experience at all when I wanted a nice afternoon
