Hickory's Smokehouse Gresty Green in Cheshire East

Only gave a 3 for atmosphere for 2 reasons. Firstly because our visit was around 1:30 on a Monday afternoon so it was quiet. Secondly because a Hickory’s manager chose to sit behind us to talk to a new member of staff. He was not only loud, but my wife and I thought it was entirely inappropriate to do this within earshot of customers, especially as large areas of the premises were entirely unoccupied.

A really great steakhouse. Whilst it isn't an everyday treat, when you fancy it, it's worth it. Have come here a few times and never been disappointed. The staff are lovely, and the food is second to none. Rich in flavour, great portion sizes and plenty of options for people to play around with. Also a kids area to keep them entertained whilst you wait, which isn't too long.

Went for first time for a birthday treat. Service was wonderful, food was great and loved the decor. Will definitely be wanting to go again to try more of the food and drink menu

Service was terrible waiting for 30 min with no one coming to service us, so got fed up of waiting and left, staff just standing around not interested in serving.

REISS our server was top notch!..Polite, attentive, warm & professional ~ So 5 stars firstly for him!..It was my first time dining at a Hickory’s smoke house, I’ve eaten at smoke houses in Orlando & I have to say, your food was just as good!..we couldn’t decide what to have so we (two of us + a pooch) went for the platter, it didn’t disappoint, complements to your chefs!..As we had a dog with us we opted to dine outside in one of your huts, it had a heater and we were provided with blankets, as our dog is a little nervous around other ppl this was perfect for us, the added bonus was a complimentary tray of brisket for our dog, she was overjoyed! I’d definitely recommend your restaurant. food, service, surrounding, presentation ample selection of drinks…there’s nothing to “not like” keep up the good work!

The food is good, but they add a tip on your bill without asking nor informing. As a costumer I should know if anything is to be added to the bill, specially a tip.

Smokehouse platter is a favourite. Steaks are great. Drinks are all really nice, sodas, their ales, shakes and boozy shakes. Wings are really good. Staff always amazing.

Excellent venue. Manager and staff extremely attentive, good menu. A well run establishment.

Food was lovely. The only downfall was the staff, every time the kitchen staff shouted that food was ready to go, the floor staff made comments such as “do they need to shout that much” We were sat near the movie room, and people were obviously told to clean it. Let’s just say the amount of swearing we heard wasn’t pleasant whilst trying to eat a meal!

Came for our wedding anniversary specifically asked when I booked not to be seated by the family area, we was placed smack bang in the middle of a kids party, tables kept being knocked by kids running around, couldn’t speak to my husband cause of the kids screaming, crying etc Food was greasy, felt like they was rushing our courses to get the table back for the next customer kept asking if we wanted the bill between courses not professional. It was not a relaxing, romantic meal as planned really disappointed. The free dessert was a nice touch although I do feel they should give it you before you actually order a dessert, but if a rip off they wait for you to order a dessert you technically don’t need in order to get a free doughnut. Only thing I enjoyed was the blueberry lemonade as my rose was terrible!

Amazing, went there tonight a party of 6 of us for sons 18th birthday. The staff were fabulous with us .they made it extra special and the food was brilliant 👏

This was the first place I had visited since being diagnosed with Type One Diabetes. I was nervous to be honest as I have to inject 20 mins before eating. If I inject, then don't eat things can get scary with blood sugars dropping fast. I mentioned I would need a coke zero and the waiter instantly asked, is that due to medical reasons like diabetes. As soon as I said yes, he was on it!! He came back, told me how long food wood be, told me his manager and the chef were aware of the situation and when I should inject. Honestly made the first time going out stress free. He left his shift half way through eating food so I never got to thank him but he was honestly amazing. I would loved to of been able to thank him face to face.

Meal out with friends.James our server from the Chester restaurant was especially helpful and knowledgable about the dishes.Portion size was generous,steaks cooked to perfection .

Just been for Sunday lunch (9 Feb) and we were served by Nathan. Couldn't have been more helpful, distracted the baby to stop her crying, he was friendly and polite. Even chatted football & rugby with my dad and husband. We were in the same section as a large table and nothing was too much trouble. The food was delicious, recommend the cob salad with chicken and bacon.

Food always consistently good here. It was the same today! The reason for writing the review is because after a small error with our order - Courtney came and resolved the issue promptly and was super friendly and helpful. Top service. Really great place. We go here often for family meals. The staff are really friendly and seem genuinely happy to be of service and the food is always absolutely delicious. The brisket is especially good. If its someone's bday they'll have the table set up with a happy birthday thing and they serve the bday persons drink with a sparkler and happy bday sprinkled on a board with icing sugar. It's a nice touch. They will also happily prepare a cake and candles if you supply them and have also been known to participate in a bday sing along (this is optional for staff and they don't have to sing if they don't want to as they told me 😄 ) They supply free popcorn and water on arrival with a little kids activity booklet thing with crayons for the nippers and they have a small cinema room with relatively new films for the kids to watch aswell as a decently sized outside area with play area for the kids. Great atmosphere, great service, great food, very kid friendly. I've not experienced anything negative on all the times I've even there. Top Notch.

this is my new favourite restaurant in England! I went here with my friend on a whim, and ended up coming four days in the row. would have carried on coming but had to head elsewhere (and found two more Hickory’s. the best BBQ I’ve had outside the US! the staff and head chef were super-attentive and friendly, and even saw us off on day four with a gift to remember our experiences and amazing food. definitely gonna be back next time I’m in England! 🫶🏼🫶🏼🫶🏼

Food was brilliant, we asked for a booth wend we booked one line for my wifes bad back got there to find nope not got one for you ! The waitress (if u want to call her that) didnt do much at all then when i paid with cash (she looked shocked like what is this stuff i have been given) she walked off never to be seen again waited 10 mins with wife and kids but no show. So i asked the manager to make sure the money ONLY went to the kitchen not to the waiting staff……

Came here for my 30th birthday a few years back and I'm so glad I did the food was amazing as was the atmosphere in the place and the staff were all lovely polite helpful and attentive most amazing thing I had was the cotton candy cocktail it came in a beaker like in science class it was amazing like magic you pour the drink onto the cotton candy cocktail and it came out like an actual cocktail one of the best hickory's I've ever been to highly recommend this place to anyone

Brilliant experience maybe a little on the expensive side, but the portion sizes and relaxed atmosphere make it value for money in my opinion.

My friends and I were really looking forward to our celebration, but unfortunately, it didn’t go as planned. When our platters for two arrived, it was pretty clear they had been sitting on a hot plate for way too long. The meat was extremely dry, and some pieces were practically inedible because they had become so hard. It was such a letdown! To make matters worse, we asked our waiter for some sauces to go with our meal, but it seemed like he forgot about us. We ended up having to ask another waiter to bring them over. It just felt like the service was a bit off. We’ve been to Hickory’s multiple times, and the food is usually spot on, which is why we chose to celebrate there. But it seemed like, because it was busy, the quality of the food and service dropped significantly. I really hope this feedback helps to improve things for future visits, as we love your place and want to keep coming back!

Have been meaning to go here for a while. Eventually went in a small group this weekend. First impressions were very good. The car park was packed; so the place was relatively full but our table was ready and waiting. First disappointment, the menu. I knew it was US American themed but the choices are really limited; just the one steak choice for example snd also just their sauce to go with it, which is a bit bland. They serve "cheesy" chips which is my goto side dish but it was just a plate of chips with a very bland melted cheese on the top that hadn't permeated to the chips below. The chef should try the "cheesy" chips at the White Lion at Warmingham for the real recipe (cheese with a bit of taste would be a start!). I had that and went for medium rare but it was overdone and dry. Anyway general consensus from the group. All meals were OK without being particularly special. Then again pricing is good; so it may be a case of you get what you pay for. It may well be that the restaurant is aimed at a younger age group than us who appreciate that type of food more. A quick word about the service which was very good; and to be fair the servers didn't look as if they had a minute to spare. I am glad we tried it, but I don't think I would choose to return.

So basically I know American food very well and I was disappointed in the food nothing close even the steak came out not so well but the service is excellent the customer service is truly warming

Party of two - Seated to our table which was a hallway corner - hot, stuffy, uncomfortable with nothing to see and zero ambience. Promptly ordered drinks, for some reason these came separately with a delay for the second drink. After that nothing happened, and I mean nothing. Looked at my watch and we had been on site for 40 minutes. Server came to table and apologised saying she thought we had already ordered as couldn't see our menus. We had placed these to one side as had been waiting for so long and decided what we wanted to order. We promptly left, as after that experience - god knows how long it might have taken to see some actual food? Much less, complete the dining process? Hours maybe?.. we were not prepared to sit all night in such an uncomfortable environment. The only positive was getting the drinks on the house, apart from that it was an appalling experience. We took our money and custom elsewhere - and in the end had a pleasant meal at an establishment that was capable of providing service and hospitality.

Lovely staff, nice enough restaurant just found the meal very average considering everything I've heard. Not horrible or inedible just average, including dried out mec n cheese presented to my daughter.

We went for a meal here last night for our anniversary! Staff went above and beyond for us they were so welcoming! The food was one of the best meals we had ever had! Would definitely recommend!!

We’ve been to hickory’s a few times now, went again tonight… I can’t fault it. It’s a very busy place and the staff work hard. Tonight, the drinks we ordered never got given to the staff who make them/it was forgotten… unbeknown to us at the time, another staff member came over to apologise for our wait (just want to add that we didn’t feel we waited too long at all- but it’s nice to be approached anyway) we said we didn’t mind the wait but would like our drinks if possible (think we’d waited about 20-30 mins at that point) they got them for us and informed us that it wasn’t communicated, couldn’t apologise enough and didn’t charge us for the drinks- a nice gesture but we honestly didn’t mind… we got them eventually right? Anyway I’m rambling but I just want to say that because the atmosphere is so chill etc and it’s nice to just be out, we honestly don’t think it’s a big deal to have a bit of a wait, the food is worth it every time. We were sat near the kitchen and I found myself watching how hard they work in there too, must be madness to keep it all going. You’re all doing brill and we love coming. At the end, we asked for some of our sharing platter to boxed up, they only had foil which was no issue to us… we got home and noticed that one of the items had been wrapped in the form of a swan, which I thought was cute. The service/staff are brill and if that remains, I’m pretty confident that nobody will mind some delays, after all, it’s a busy/popular place. Keep it up guys, :) thank you for a good evening.

Love food, meat was absolutely delicious, and right amount of fries.

As someone who grew up eating southern food/BBQ my entire life I was interested in trying this place. First off, the drinks (lemonades) were very good, though they were carbonated. The food came out and was good as well. The meat ( I got brisket) was very tender and didn't have a lot of fat (which is a great thing). I enjoyed it. The bourbon sauce was a bit strong, was hoping for a bit more sweetness. Mac and cheese is probably my favorite food ever and as a southerner I eat it/make it quite a lot so I had to get a side of it. I was a bit disappointed by it, there wasn't much flavor, but it wasn't bad. I just wouldn't order it again. The sausage was good and the fries were pretty good as well. The atmosphere was nice and the staff were also nice. I did get a side of ranch (sauce) and was pleasantly surprised by it, it was pretty good. I'll definitely come here again to try some more of their food.

Amazing food, friendly staff, and a bubbley lively atmosphere. If you like American style food and a fair price, I'd definitely recommend visiting this restaurant.

Stopped here today on a whim whilst driving back to Londonfrom a family Christmas in Cumbria. So glad we did. The food was hot and delicious and good value, all super tasty. The best thing for me was the cheesy jalapeno sauces but what really made our visit was the staff..so nice and friendly and efficient. I forgot to ask anyone's name but we stopped today on December 28th around 2.30pm and the lady on the desk as we left was especially nice and the lady who brought us our bill (green shirt and a long skirt) was amazing too. Will absolutely make the detour to stop here again.

Went there with school group. Had an amazing time.

Got an overcooked steak, all apologies according to the facilities’ policy, and had a replacement which was satisfactory, but afterwards our table got neglected by the staff. There are better places out there.

Nice and tasty food, the staff are very friendly and there are plenty of car parking spaces.

Unfortunately the table (no. 17) we were given for two was a complete joke. It was way too small and extremely uncomfortable. To make matters worse, it was placed right next to the cash register and the kitchen, which made the experience even more unpleasant. Very disappointing. Because of that we left early. Despite this, the food and service were great.

Some of the best food ever had. Topping it all off with their Fro-Co was just fantastic! Nice large place where you don't feel squeezed in to the neighbouring tables.

Place is great for food, past two visits have been hampered by extremely slow service and not getting orders correct. They did make it right in both instances with free deserts or starters. Will definitely go again. Only thing I don’t like is the voluntary involuntary tip for service that automatically gets added.

Very friendly restaurant, dropped in on a Wednesday and quite busy - always a good sign. Waitress very attentive and seemed genuinely happy to interact with customers. Food (brisket and beef rib) ordered was great. Beef rib in particular was excellent. Minor quibble was quality of the slaw which could be improved. Service was excellent and I'll definitely be back. Small point to management to look into improvements to car park lighting.

For a belly busting, relaxing and an amazing dining experience you’ve got to visit Hickory’s.

Fantastic service and didn't make a fuss about needing a gluten free menu like most places do, they also take it seriously. We sat at the chefs bar and overheard one of the chefs telling another off for putting a bun on a grill that was only for gluten free items! It's the first place I've been as a celiac where I have not been made to feel uncomfortable. Thanks you! First time I've found frozen custard in the UK too yum! 10/10

Was taken for my 60th birthday. Don't like de constructed food, like it on the one plate . What I did try kept me up all night running to the bathroom. It wasn't for me, everyone else was ok .

Since moving to the area a few years ago, we have struggled to find decent restaurants where the food is good, the value for money is good and the service is on point. This place does all of that for us and now semi-regulars (would go more often if I wasn’t trying to eat more healthily!) I wish they still did delivery - as sometimes a quick bite is needed and can’t give the time to do a full sit down.

Lovely place, but wow, what you pay vs what you get is pretty poor. It's a while since I've been, the last time I was there I had the single big rib and it was as if it had been cooked with a flame thrower, I had a cowboy steak this time, with a Cajun covering, around £27, it was bang average, came with fries and some very poor coleslaw too. Wife had a burger that was also very average for what you pay. What a shame, I love smoked food etc but I don't think I will bring myself to return. Oh, the coke was also very watered down! What a shame!

Lovely pub and atmosphere. I had a burger, and my fella had the brisket. I tried both and was lovely. The food is a bit overpriced for what it is but the Staff were lovely and the pub is beautiful and the food is tasty (so don't mind paying). The American theme is continued with the music and the beer garden looks magical at night with all the fairy lights and theres even blankets on the tables if you get cold. The cocktails and specialist drinks are spectacular both to taste and to look at. Would definitely recommend and return ourselves but will be trying the steak next time.

Brilliant waitress but not really what we were expecting

First time at a hickory’s, we were up visiting family. I’ll be honest, I wasn’t expecting much, thinking it would be like a BBQ version of a Harvester, but I was pleasantly surprised. The food was, for the money, really nice. I had the chicken Gumbo and the others had gumbo or southern chicken burger. Everyone enjoyed their meals and the drinks were nice too. The service was pleasant and considering the place was absolutely rammed, pretty effective. I’ve found a hickory’s not too far from us now and I’ll definitely be going in next time we’re in the area .

Our server was excellent - such a lovely person. Took her time to run us through her favourite and what she'd recommend, as well as the sizes of other items etc. She was fantastic! And, she recommend the sodas, which were a huge hit! The food was phenomenal and we'd certainly come back. Perfect for kids too, as they have a playground outside, a cinema inside, colouring they give out - what a place! Amazing! The American theme is brilliant too. Very authentic.

This is such a great restaurant! Staff are super friendly, service was quick and the food was incredible. We had the sharing platter and everything was spot on and such great value for money. What more can you ask for!

We went as a family to celebrate my dons 25th we absolutely loved it the staff were fabulous and my Jack was treated to a birthday sweet and a song he was highly embarrassed but loved it thanks 😊

The rib rib was nr enough none existent on the platter, informed the waitress and she just said no problem ill tell the manager. He/she didn't even come over to have a look or resolve the issue. Not as good as past experience!!

So far everything I've tried here has been great. Staff are great, friendly and don't pester you to see if things are ok.

Food was OK but you can definitely get better elsewhere for the small price, service was good but we felt a bit rushed, I thought it was going to be more of a authentic bbq restaurant but it was more of a hungry horse with a American/bbq theme, better for families with kids than couples etc

I went here for my 26th birthday, Reece served us, he made us feel like family, even remembered my name which is a hard name to remember as is! Great food and great service all around!

Absolutely fantastic Food amazing Plenty for the kids

Food was all over cooked and the service was terrible. Took ages for drinks to arrive, then they asked if we'd like any sauces, brought them to us after we were done eating (and we're not quick eaters) then added an automatic tip to the bill - which we ended up paying because we all felt too uncomfortable to ask them to remove it. Won't be going here again.

Had a great time celebrating my birthday with family here. Lots for the great kids to do movie theatre inside and play area outside. Food was hot a tasty. Bird and beast burger was very good as was the macaroni cheese brisket side and the pit beans. Grandkids enjoyed their meals too. They brought me a doughnut with cream and a sparkler candle for free and another sparkler with the cake we brought. They paid attention to detail with the icing sugar birthday wishes on both. They did bring me the wrong meal initially were very apologetic including the manager. When the bill arrived they had taken the cost of my main course off which was a nice surprise. Will definitely go back. They really looked after us.
