We stayed at the B&B. Perfect stop before resuming our much (covid) delayed Pennine way walk. Friendly, welcoming host, comfortable room with great views, great breakfast, will stay again if we're back in Hawes.

We've been coming to Herriot's for lunches and B&B for a good few years now. Glenn & Liz always make us so welcome. The business has been severely cut back due to covid, but the cafe and art gallery are scheduled to open later this month. We spent 3 nights B&B just a week ago, and the quality never changes. Give it a try - you won't be disappointed! 😀😀😀

Visited with my husband and son today. Were made very welcome even though we arrived just a few minutes before the end of the lunch service. I chose the ciabatta with Yorkshire blue cheese, pickled pears and walnuts and I can honestly say it was one of the best lunches I've ever had. Highly recommended!

My wife and I stopped here after failing to find another cafe in Hawes that served tea cakes after 12pm. (I really desired a teacake, okay!) Inside, the cafe is quaint and welcoming. An adjoining gallery offers some lovely work to peruse. The owner (possibly a worker, but this was our best guess) was welcoming and took the time to talk to us about our choices. I went with - yep, you guessed it - teacakes, and my wife decided on the cheese scone. We both thoroughly enjoyed our selection, and I would highly recommend the teacakes with Seville marmalade. It recently won a Great Taste award and I can see why. Jams were available to purchase, so I didn't hesitate to pick up a marmalade. Be sure to take the time to visit this hidden gem.

As a coeliac we have often found it difficult to find nice places for my wife to eat. As the title says this was brilliant, the gentleman who served us gave us a lovely shortbread biscuit to accompany our pot of tea, that was home made, melt in the mouth. The best thing about it was it was Gluten free! Best shortcake biscuit we've had in a long time so we came away with the four they had left. My wife's Gluten free choice of lunch was the plough mans, definitely recommend it to any coeliacs out there along with non coeliacs as it came served with gf bread. Non coeliacs can have the lovely chunk of normal bread. We all thoroughly enjoyed our visit and even came away with the biscuit recipe. Definitely recommend this place to all.

We decided on Herriott’s for lunch as it was the only place which clearly said vegan menu and unfortunately we have a number of allergies. They really couldn’t have been more accommodating for our family ensuring meals were appropriate. Food was delicious! Thoughtful touches too when it came to changing the baby on a wet day. They even coped with our weaning daughter and dog. Would highly recommend

Been frequenting this establishment so long that Glenn and Liz (the owners) have become good friends. Visited twice for light lunches during our recent week's stay in the dale. On both occasions I had the leek and potato soup which is far beyond your usual run-of-the-mill variety. Herriot's Kitchen also doubles as an art gallery, exhibiting paintings by local artists - and for sale. There are some lovely works of art there. Hoping to return in the not too distant future,

Lunched here today and enjoyed great food and service. The soup of the day was declared a hit and the Ploughman’s lunch very generous local hams and cheese and accompanied by homemade Piccalilli which was declared as the Dogs B....’s by my sister in law. My Herriot Rarebit was a triumph of great ingredients, simply but beautifully presented. The accompanying Tomato relish, also made on site, was a perfect match. The Lemon Polenta cake just had to be tried and did not disappoint. Went away with a supply of the homemade chutneys and pickles with a promise to return.

Two level cafe, 4 tables on each level, in a friendly, bright environment. Liz Payne, a career chef makes fresh healthy lunches, freshly made soups everyday, local cheeses (including the famous Wensleydale cheese which is very good) and sandwiches and panini’s available. Liz’s well known chutney and jams are in a lot of the menu items and are on sale in the cafe. Glenn Payne’s voice can often be heard making customers laugh and giving them insights into the local life. Ate here a number of times during my 5 night stay in the Herriot’s b&b upstairs, and my special needs relating to being partially sighted were always cheerfully accommodated.

Three of us have had lunch here on several occasions in May and October this year, and it is always a real pleasure to sample the meals which Glenn and Liz serve up - soups in particular are very tasty. Liz is an excellent baker too, and her cheese scones are light and well flavoured (gave her 9/10 this year!!). If you like flapjacks these are a treat, and we always leave with a tray of them. Liz also does an excellent range of pickles and preserves which are always on sale. The paintings of a fair number of local artists are always on display and for sale; these add to the very pleasant ambience. Hope to be back in the Dales for a week in May next year, when we shall again be eating here, as we have done regularly over the past 8 years or so.

Very modern and spacious tea rooms displaying lots of art work, all of which was for sale. We popped in here on our way to a walk to a local attraction. The food (we had cakes and coffee) was home made and very pleasant. The place is a quiet haven in a busy market town and also acts as a gallery selling artwork of the local Yorkshire Dales area. The atmosphere was calm and we ate without interruption and glad of the lack of wallpaper music so often present these days. It's a reasonably priced place, with a good variety of tea-room fare, and a nice cup of coffee.

This was one of the few places in Hawes that was quiet on a day when everywhere else was packed. It offers drinks, cakes and a small selection of sandwiches and soup for lunch. The sandwiches were made fresh and were good. The host liked to engage the people in the cafe in conversation. The cafe is reached by some stone stairs and there is one toilet at the top before turning into the cafe. The place felt more art shop than eating establishment and there are lots of local's paintings on the walls.

One couple were asked to remove their hats off the window ledge and another asked to deposit their umbrella in the corner - to avoid a wet floor and make it slippy for other customers. It wasn't busy, the food was ok and it welcomes dogs, probably more than its customers. It is a harsh business world out there even on a soggy July afternoon so pull your socks up and be a little more welcoming to everyone who passes by, and do it with true meaning.PS - you have to pay with cash here so be prepared. That's it learn from this and move on.

We stumbled across this by chance and enjoyed very much the tea and scones. Friendly service and very pleasant cafe.

We have been calling in here for the last few years. Every time the food has been at least excellent. We have also stayed here in the B&B and that too has been at least excellent. If I had a criticism it would be that I really enjoy an espresso at any time of the day. I need the caffeine fix I guess but it seems rare in Northern England. The breakfast includes Black Pudding, which as a Southerner I adore,A first choice if staying in Hawes.

Been here several times over the past few years - sometimes for B & B, but this time just for lunch on a couple of occasions during our recent visit. Soups are always excellent - had one with wild garlic this visit - very tasty. Glen and Liz are always so welcoming. Liz makes lovely flapjacks and we always order a tray when we're down.

Herriott's kitchen is a lovely place to eat and drink. It has a modern, light decor and is spotlessly clean. Unfortunately, we only had a drink and a slice of cake but the menu looked appealing and of high quality. They also have gluten free options.

Popped in for a drink but took cake as well!Other customers enjoyed their food and our cakes where excellent as was the pot of tea I had (three full cups no less). Staff where friendly and happy to chat about the art and area.Art work a mix of modern and classical landscape but not priced for tourists looking for a bargain as I've bought better for less. Saying that the felt work was very interesting and tempting.

We had a really lovely early lunch at Heriott's Kitchen last week. The soup was absolutely yummy and the cake that followed was divine - and gluten free. The cafe itself is a great space - with some beautiful local artworks and lots of fab homemade jams, marmalades and chutneys available to buy. The couple who run it remembered us from our last visit (last June!) and were professional and offered a very warm welcome. I'd recommend this cafe for cake and tea, breakfast or lunch!

We popped in today for a light lunch and immediately received a warm welcome. Some lovely pieces of local art work to admire whilst our order was prepared and the owner shared his enthusiastic love of the art with us. The food was faultless, soup, ciabatta, scone with clotted cream and the best ever chocolate brownie...we look forward to returning next May bank holiday weekend when hopefully the weather will be as warm as the welcome we received!

Popped in for an early brunch and had pot of Yorkshire tea (not tea bags) offered us more, really tasty bacon and lovely fresh eggs topped off with really friendly staff. We most certainly will come back and we are fussy...

Turned up ad hoc for a meal and were made very welcome. Lovely roast dinner and veg. Great atmosphere and sensible pub-grub menu: just the ticket!

We visited here after reading some encouraging reviews and noting that “booking is essential for food”, we thought it would be a safe bet while we were in the area. Unfortunately, the 2 stars are for service along as the bar staff were very polite and helpful. They are also dog friendly which is a bonus. Other than that, the food was not impressive. We had the Sunday roast and the beef tasted of poor quality, and vegetables were not seasoned and lacked flavour. The cabbage served with the meal was pickled which wasn’t what we expected. We were still hungry afterwards but didn’t want to waste any more money on desert in case it was more of the same. The decor is very tired and the place does lack atmosphere unfortunately. We didn’t drink alcohol but they have a wide variety of ales to choose from behind the bar. We won’t be returning, sadly!

Just been for Sunday lunch with my family and was delicious. I rang to book an hour before and they fitted us in no problem . Lunch didn't take very long to come and staff were so friendly. Definitely recommend. Look forward to coming back. Thankyou Nicola xx

Could not recommend enough! Staff are so friendly and welcoming. They make sure to go above and beyond for customers, making sure you have everything you need. Decor is absolutely fabulous and not to forget they grow their own fresh ingredients, you don’t get a better experience than that. Food is 10/10 so flavourful, definitely will be returning.
