Hi I came today with family because I was trying to think of a cafe that offered outside seating and a safe environment for me to have some normality whilst under going chemo I sat outside and my brother in law went to order When our order came the waitress wasn’t wearing any protective gear and it made me feel vulnerable Is this normal or should they at least wore a visor ? I’m not really understanding these rules anymore

Food choice is quite good. Service is standard without that special effort that could add to it's value. Current owners have improved the food but still just behind previous owners. In reality 3.5 stars is the current position although another push could really elevate this place. Waited ten minutes to pay at counter due to over stretched staff...the management can address this. Good luck.

Visited the café today as I was meeting my mum on lunch and we sat in the courtyard area. During my visit a women was being sacked in front of the 6 tables of customers that were sat outside, I could clearly hear the conversation between this women and the gentleman escorting her off the premises. it is so unprofessional and I think you should get a meeting room. I will be going elsewhere on my lunch now.

After a very poor experience at the cafe last year we heard that it was under new ownership with changed decor and so went to give it another go. It consisted of the same overpriced, underwhelming food with the cafe clearly understaffed and overrun. The food came late without any cutlery and there was no apology forthcoming from the manager. Would not recommend to anyone, this cafe is doomed to fail.

Six of us ordered tea and sandwiches. We waited and waited. Then some poor girl bought out the wrong order. We were told she had taken the order down wrongly so we waited another half an hour and watched the tables around us being served. They did come, eventually ! How long does it take to make a sandwich? By which time our tea was cold. Waitresses were continually walking round with plates, not knowing which table to serve, even though you gave your table number in with your order. Won't be going back! Food was OK in the end.

Visited for lunch during classic car show (13:15 Sunday). Just about empty inside and out. Empty tables outside uncleared for the duration of our stay & chairs scattered around. A few people looked at menu but walked on - could understand why as no curb appeal. As others have mentioned waited a good 10mins for drinks - Strawberry milkshake & Elderflower. The milkshake had no froth and powder bits floating on top. The Elderflower was room temperature. Not a great start - we wished we'd not ordered food. Scampi was OK but chips tasteless. Mushrooms with toast arrived several minutes after the Scampi. Tasted much better than it looked as appeared to be floating in excessive amount of milk. This seemed to dry up as food cooled and toast was used to soak it up. I'm left in 2 minds about it - tasty but odd looking. The staff didn't seem to have a manager and therefore did as little as possible. Leaving tables needing clearing, taking longer than expected to serve food and no check to see if everything was OK. Given its location I'd have thought good reputation would be essential......

We visited Skipton on Sunday when there was a Car Show on in the centre of town and it was very busy everywhere. We walked through Craven Court and discovered The Tea Shop. As we had a dog with us we sat outside on the balcony underneath the glass roof which was very pleasant. We ordered toasted teacakes which were delicious and tea and milkshakes. Everyone commented on how nice the milkshakes were. I noticed they all had a scoop of ice cream on top and very good value at £ 2.70 each. We found the staff to be very friendly. Will definitely make a return visit.

20 years ago we used to visit this place for a lovely lunch, with smartly dressed staff, pianist and very smartly dressed lady on the till. Whilst this looked like a quaint little tea room, the lack of customers in the shop should have set alarm bells ringing. We were advised to pick a table and someone would be with us soon. Despite the fact that there was only one other couple there, it took a good twenty minutes for our order to be taken with the waitress having to ask whether we had already been served; obviously great communication between staff! Strangely, the bill was brought to our table soon after. During this time other customers came into the tea room and were seated, orders taken and food brought to the table before we had received our meals. The drinks arrived fairly swiftly, though my peppermint tea was so overbrewed that it was too bitter to drink. When the food was eventually brought to our table my order wasn't brought with it and I was left waiting for another 5 minutes. We also waited for another 5 minutes for a side order to come, only to look at the bill and see that it hadn't in fact been ordered by the waitress. The food itself was good, though the staff neglected to ask whether more drinks/condiments etc were needed or to even check if everything was ok. In all honesty I would not have begrudged paying the extortionate bill had the service been good but the shoddy service has forever tarred my impression of this tea room and I will not be returning.

Deciding on this premises because it wasn't busy was clearly a mistake. There was one other couple seated when we arrived. After being told to find a table and we will be with you shortly clearly meant "we will sit and chat with the friends who came in after you" Fifteen minutes later just as we were about to leave, a waitress came across and asked if any one had been to us. Bizarrely straight after we had ordered we were given our bill. By this point another four ladies came in and sat down which made a grand total of three tables seated including ours. A further THIRTY minutes later in which the four ladies who'd come in twenty minutes after us had been served and the familiar friends were being given coffee and cake, the chef brought out three of the meals. We then sat there waiting for a further five minutes for the fourth meal, a sandwich, to arrive. After another five minutes of waiting for the side order of chips to arrive, I noticed that we hadn't been charged for them because our waitress hadn't bothered to order them for us. At no point during our meal were we offered condiments, more drinks or even asked if everything was alright. So for two wraps, a turkey sandwich and a salmon bake thing, 3 coffees and a peppermint tea and an hour which was mostly spent waiting on the appalling service we then paid nearly £42. I'm sure if you want something easier than a sandwich or if you are a regular customer then you'd like this place. Frankly I wouldn't waste your time or money otherwise.

Weekday lunch for four: really welcoming staff, accommodating that we wanted to rearrange a couple of tables to join together. Good selection of light lunches to suit most tastes, including some really healthy options - our omelettes had lots of salad and big slices of fresh fruit (melon, orange) with them. We asked for a filling that was actually a pancake filling, which they readily adapted to the omelettes. Delicious.

I used to come here when visiting relations years ago and it was a lovely place. Well decorated with lovely food and staff. Always busy with a great Gent playing the piano. Unfortunately the owner seems to have either lost interest or has a lack of funds as it is now empty, very tatty and tired looking with dreadful toilets. When I entered there were crumbs all over the carpet and the waitress was even wearing flip flops! The food is pretty basic and quite cheap looking and tasting. The tea was dreadful but apparently the coffee is very good apart from being served in a stained and scratched cafetière. It really could be lovely again if they just decorated, improved their food menu, had some background music, kept the place clean and took note of the little annoying things like milk jugs that don't pour and just dribble and spill! There are so many tea shops in Skipton the competition must be fierce. Get it right or die. I shall not be going back again or recommend.

On impulse we decided to visit Skipton today. Been many times before and enjoyed the experience, Early afternoon we ventured into the Arcade and found the Hemingway Tea shop. We were not looking for a hot meal as it was only around 3.30pm and none of us were particularly hungry. Something sweet and a cup of decent coffee would suffice for my wife and self and the children could choose a drink and a snack. We chose to sit inside but outside tables are available on the balcony, and it advertises them as "dog friendly. The place was not busy and there seemed to be a good few waitresses hovering around. The whole room was decorated very tastefully and was spotlessly clean. I ordered a Latte and scones with jam & cream, my wife a cappuccino and a strawberry tart, the children milkshakes and chocolate cake. We waited around 10 minutes before being told that there were no scones left and also the strawberry tarts had all gone too. Changing my order to Apple pie with cream and my wife's to Bakewell tart, the food arrived about 5 minutes later along with the message. "We are just doing your drinks now". What we had was not exceptional just about average. The cream was the synthetic variety squirted from a can. The apple pie however was very nice and served slightly warm. I can imagine this place being very busy at peak times, hence the zillions of staff on hand. There was a lack of communication between staff as it took quite some time to realise that food we had ordered was no longer available. When the bill was given to me at my table the total was £20.50,

My girlfriend and I decided to go to Skipton for the day and after wandering around we decided to go into Hemigways due to a slight charm it was giving to us. We decided to sit inside instead of sitting outside. Once having a look at the menu, we decided to go order and my girlfriend asked the waitress, a rather older looking lady who seemed depressed and did not want to be there at all, how the chicken was cooked in the chicken sandwich, she did not have a clue and did not go find out for us. Once the food was ready, the chef brought it to us, which once seeing the food that had been brought to us, we could not believe how unappetising it looked, my Beef and Onion sandwich looked unappealing and smelled horrendously, with only two onion rings on my plate, when I expected at least six for £7.20!!! My girlfriends chicken sandwich was horrendous, the chicken was freezing cold, with some bits still pink. We had to put the salad into our sandwich, we expected it to already in our sandwich and her mayonnaise was brought in a packet, when it should be brought in a small ramekin. Anyone thinking of visiting here, should avoid this place like the plague. For £17.35 for two meals and two drinks, I would of rather have gone to McDonald's for £8.

Called in for a quick lunch whilst visiting Skipton. We were not at all impressed with the food, the price or the service. First the food, my wife ordered a feta cheese and pepper sandwich and I ordered a roast ham sandwich with tea, the prices were not cheap so we were expecting something nice. The waitress arrived with the cutlery and serviette and decided that the table was dirty so half heartedly gave it a quick swipe over. We then had quite a wait for our order even though the place was not busy. When they arrived they consisted of two slices of brown bread with our chosen fillings and a very token salad garnish. The bread was dry with no butter, my wife's feta cheese was more like cottage cheese but on the plus side the roast ham was very nice. For the price we paid it was not at all up to standard, I have had better in a supermarket cafe. We may have caught them on a bad day but on this showing I cannot recommend the place at all.

Had a wonderful salad meal as usual - the salmon is fresh and not tinned - and the presentation is remarkable - with a wonderful variety of fruit added.

We called in for a coffee and I have to say that it was the best cup of coffee I've had in a long time. It's ages since we've been to Skipton and it was good to see that Hemingways hadn't changed and that the coffee is still as good as ever. The staff are both friendly and helpful, if you're looking for food or a drink do give this a try, I'm sure that you won't be disappointed.

My wife and I often visit this tea shop when in Skipton as we love their strawberry tarts, On our last visit, they had sold out but made a couple fresh for us. We always find the staff friendly and accommodating and sitting on the balcony, (in the sunshine) was like being abroad on holiday. A very pleasant experience.

Called in today for a light lunch. Place was almost empty so should have just left in hindsight as this is never a good sign. However settled for 2 bowls of soup and 2 teas. Bill came to just below £15 which was well over priced. There were tables that hadn't been cleared and the menus were dirty and grubby.Whilst eating the manager or chef was being abusive to a young girl waitress which we felt very uncomfortable about. The toilets were dirty and smelly and we promptly left without leaving a tip.I would not return here. There are plenty of other places around Skipton which we will try on our next visit. On the plus side the waitress was very pleasant and served us promptly.

This is an excellent alternative for those of you wanting to avoid pub grub or the usual high street coffee chain shops. Ideal central location. Good value for money whether you are looking for tea and cake, snack or lunch. I've visited many times and not been disappointed.

We were looking for somewhere unusual to have a Freshly Ground cup of coffee. We were visiting Skipton for the day and spotted the Craven Court Shops. We spotted a nice table on the upper terrace of this parade. The owner who served us was a delight. The coffee was one of the best we have had. No Instant coffee here or pressing buttons for a sachet it was all fresh ground Beans .I had a mocha which was just purrfect. We had had a very large breakfast but the food that we saw being served to the other customers was very well presented. The Ploughmans platter looked very delicious with fresh fruit and a good selection of cheeses.A very nice clean and friendly place if you want to watch the world go by in this very pleasant and Friendly Tea rooms. Well worth a visit.

Visited skipton this Saturday looking for afternoon tea , coffee and cake or scone.did not want to use a national chain.should have realised the rip off signs as we sat down. Had to go to a counter to order noting your table number.cake display straight from a frozen food supplier, so chose a scone with cream and jam and two cappuccino coffees , insisted we paid at counter and drinks and food would be served at table

Beautiful tea shop selling local produce as gifts as well as an ice cream parlour. Located in a beautiful arcade it never fails to impress me with the quality and value of the dishes served. The owner takes great pride in his menu and cooking. My friend had the ham and pineapple dish which was served with thick lean ham and no fat around the edges. I wanted hers but was also spoilt for choice with which dish to have.

Lovely little cafe tucked away on a balcony of the Craven Court arcade in Skipton. What a find when we walked in there was a gentleman playing a piano and we were served almost straight away. The menu was extensive . I chose the warm salad consisting of chicken and bacon. It was beautifully presented and came not only with salad but an array of sliced fruits which was very enjoyable and refreshing . My husband chose the ploughmans and added ham to it. It was a huge plateful three different cheeses and the ham was really lovely just as if it had been home made just like my mum used to do. Again he had a selection of fruit. Both meals came with a warm bread roll and butter but we couldn't eat them as far too much. The staff were very efficient and friendly, and the owner couldn't have been more attentive. Would throughly recommend and will definitely go back soon.

I have visited the tea rooms on a few occasions and I have to say the menu never disappoints, with plenty to chose from it cater's for all tastes. The staff are really friendly and happy to help. The courtyard area is the perfect backdrop to soak in the atmosphere. It is tucked away on the top floor of craven court so it's probably missed by most people which is such a shame. Definitely worth a visit!!

We had a lovely couple of nights in this charming pub/hotel. Our room was comfy, spotlessly clean and warm. The food in the restaurant was excellent both breakfasts and dinners. The staff friendly and the place had a lovely cosy friendly feel. Would definitely return and recommend.

Always pop in here when in Skipton. Clean, decent foods, pleasant staff. Yesterday however female server couldnt give a hoot. Long unkept hair, hand either on hip, in pocket or arms crossed. Looked at everyone like we were all dirt. Spoke appallingly. I waited in line, then she said 'back in a minute' and vanished. 5 mins later came nack and simply said 'yeah?'. Good grief, shockingly bad. Is this the era of a Mike Ashley owned business?
