Heath Hotel in Cardiff

Came in for a beer with an old friend, we were freezing cold when we came in and one of the bar staff heard my friend say how cold she was and sat us next to a fireplace to warm up. Was much appreciated, was a warm cosy couple of drinks before we headed out, will be returning customers. God bless the heath

Went to see the live jazz on Sunday. Music was good but the atmosphere was awful. The performance was delayed and there had obviously been a dispute between those who had come to listen to the music and some others who objected to moving from in front of a tv screen where they were watching football. Though the alternative bar, which also had other screens, was relatively empty, they insisted on staying in the lounge where the music was being played and turning up the volume on another television. Management needs to decide whether this is just a sports bar or whether they want to attract a wider audience

Ordered an Egg fried rice and a Beef dish here, delivery. Came warm and very tasty

Not good food. Chips were easily re used/re heated. Tasted like cardboard. When I rang to give them an opportunity to send fresh chips they argued with me and hung up.

In all honesty I will never in my life eat at this place ever again. My husband and I stopped off for food on our way back from a trip. On arrival the barmaid was busy but in fairness she did acknowledge us. We were told there was no steak on the menu, fair enough, opted for fish... No fish either. Ok next option I'll have steak and ale pie. My husband chose a chicken and bacon salad. When food arrived my chips were cold, we returned the plate and had more chips which were still cold, the pie was rock hard and in all honesty I was not happy with the way it was all handled. The barmaid was lovely and I could not be rude to her. We left our food and just walked out. No I never asked for a fresh meal because there was definitely not a care in the world for my request plus I never trust a chef who has had their meals returned twice. My bad review reflects the audacity in the cheek of being treated like crap by the disregard of a complaint, they really need to acknowledge if someone says the chips are cold why not put a fresh batch of chips in? Is this asking to much. I always base my reviews on would I return, answer No. Place needs an overhaul, table was sticky and place needs a good clean. I am more than willing to speak to the owners if they want their input heard.

Southern fried chicken burger was lovely. Wine selection fantastic. Lovely secluded bear garden. Always friendly welcome.

I visited the Heath last Wednesday while I was nearby. I really enjoyed my meal, they had a curry offer on that day so I got a curry and a pint for £9.50 which I thought was really good value. The portion size was very good and I was nicely full afterwards! The people working were really friendly too so a great visit overall.

Popped in on Saturday at lunch time, visited the toilets to experience dirty cubicles all three with no toilet paper, poor basic hygiene 🤢

good atmosphere, loved the jukebox so i could put my own music on. the 3 for £8 bottle deal is a great cheap option for students.

Went on Sunday for the best roast and stuck around for the quiz, loved the pen and paper. Definitely the best pub in cardiff!

Ordered on Uber Eats. Took so long to arrive that we gave up and cooked our own food. Eventually turned up hours late with no apology. The restaurant were not answering their phone so we couldn't get any update to tell us that the food was going to be late. When it arrived it was fine but not great. If the restaurant had just communicated that it was going to be delayed it wouldn't have been so bad. But as it was it was a very frustrating experience from beginning to end.

Booked the heath for a festive meal with close friend and family have to say I have eaten here a few times before but wasn’t really impressed but this year the festive menu was really good value for money very well presented and tasted amazing...

Been a long term customer, 4 years plus, Ordered food at 10.40pm, states 11pm close they accepted my order then 20 mins later declined and refunded it as if was to late apparently, not the first time they have done this to me, why state your open till 11 yet when you order close to it, they decline it. Shame as I've been a customer for a long time. Not anymore unfortunately.

Food was 1 hour and 40 minutes late yesterday, lukewarm and couldn't get through via telephone at all or via the Just Eat bot to find out what was going on but other than that the food was lovely.

Came here a couple days ago for drinks and was served by the lovely Zoe. She was so friendly and helpful. The drinks were lush but not as lush as Zoe!

Enjoyed the food but I didn’t receive all I ordered. Attempted to call on the day but had no answer, was working the day after so I called again 2 days later. I was told I could not have a refund and was that I was lying about calling on the day as they “would’ve answered”. After a few minute of talking I was told I could get the food missing for free on my next order, but because of the horrible customer service I don’t even wanna go back.

En julio de 2019, mi hermano y yo llamamos y no nos sirvieron nada como la cerveza Brains que he amado a lo largo de los años, era plana y sin sabor, y al acercarme a la persona del bar me dijeron que el sistema de gas era problemático, pero continuaron Para servir esta tontería, mi hermano y yo terminamos bebiendo whisky. El Heath solía ser el buque insignia de Brains, pero ya no lo es, está muy mal administrado y al personal no parece importarle. En mi próxima visita a Cardiff no llamaré al Heath.

Esperé unos veinticinco minutos después de ordenar y fui al bar para preguntar dónde estaba. Me dijeron que solo un chef estaba trabajando y esa fue la razón del retraso.Unos minutos más tarde llegó pero el interior todavía estaba congelado, lo devolví para un reembolso.No es un buen final para lo que fue una comida razonable, agradezco que debe ser mucho trabajo para un chef atender a un pub lleno de gente, pero sería útil que se le informe de cualquier retraso en el momento de realizar el pedido.

I have eaten at the Heath a number of times but my last visit was a little disappointing.Very quiet upon arrival, but not unusual for a Monday evening, asked for a pint of Brains Bitter and was told it was off. Had a pint of G instead, a nice amber ale, quite happy with that.Went to order food, asked for the Salmon and King Prawn salad, was told that was not available, had the pan fried fish and veg instead.Did not have to wait long until it arrived, I can only describe it as ok.When I have had pan fried fish in the past the skin is brown and crispy, this was not the case with this dish. It was cooked but just not enough, the texture and taste of the veg suggested that they were microwaved, the new potatoes were ok.The hollandaise sauce was just splattered over the plate, also the chef had neglected to include the lemon as stated on the menu, hardly a disaster but shows a lack of attention to the menu.As I said it was ok but I certainly would not order it again, I will stick to steak, mixed grill and burgers, pub grub.The staff are great and the beer is tasty, I have not visited for a while, I hope the standard of food is not declining.

If I wrote my review on the facts it wouldn’t be great unfortunately how’re the pub is cute and the staff are absolutely lovely (although my husband says he was waiting so long at the bar because the staff were talking to me. Sorry...). Ran out of most of the menu the night we attended which you could say was just unfortunate however I see there’s other reviews with similar comments so maybe the chef needs to do some better forecasting.

Saw the review from a couple of months ago talking about running out of food. Ignored it and went to this pub as was closest to our Airbnb and want to support local. Shouldn’t have. Told before we ordered most of the grills were sold out so we ordered the salmon. Sold out. Ok the vege bake. Well there’s no potatoes left so do you want chips put in it? Ok the beans and broccoli? No luck. And BTW it’s a 45 minute wait on a Tuesday night. And when you go to the bar it’s not attended so you’ll need to wait there until someone turns up at some stage.

Went to the heath with the in laws for Easter dinner, the food wasn't nice at all. We were asked to sit in the corner as we had children but there was no one in the pub at all Will not return.

I’d reccomend michaela from London Derry in Ireland. She made our night service was 10 out of 10. The nachos were served in good time and all drinke were chilled before serving.

Visited on 3rd March with my daughter. Both had roast lamb, very tasty, everything hot and cooked well. A few pints of bitter as well , no complaints

La comida de esta visita fue muy mala, el pescado y las papas fritas estaban recocidos y muy secos. Las hamburguesas estaban recocidas y no muy calientes cuando se sirven. El pub estaba casi vacío por la tarde, pero esto era de esperar. El personal era amable, pero el servicio no era bueno. Los cerebros oscuros eran buenos y el vino de la casa aceptable, pero todo el lugar parece agotado y cansado. Pensaré dos veces antes de regresar.

Arrived for a roast today while visiting someone at university, all was going well till the food arrived. We ordered five roasts - two turkey and three beef as well as three extra sides of pigs in blankets. Turkey was fine but the beef was unbelievably chewy. Yorkshire puddings were burnt on one plate and mushy on another plate. The veg was clearly from frozen which is fine but at least cook it well and serve it hot rather than mushy and warm. Then there is the sides of pigs in blankets.... inedible without a trip to the dentist. Burnt to a crisp yet still served cold? Incredibly disappointing. We didn’t complain during because not once we were asked whether everything was ok or if we needed anything else. We didn’t complain at the time for this reason, although saw plenty of other guests have to chase after missing gravy amongst other things. When plates were cleared (still half full) the waitress said nothing. Upon paying I said I wasn’t prepared to pay for the sides as we hadn’t touched them, the waitress went to check with manager, she came back and attempted to refund the entire bill which we hadn’t yet paid for?! So we did gratefully accept not having to pay for anything as we had already paid for drinks but still had 0 apology from anyone which says it all - they knew both service and food was piss poor. Perhaps the manager wasn’t even there? Won’t be returning.

Mi novio y yo visitamos por primera vez hace unas semanas para el almuerzo del domingo. Desafortunadamente fue realmente decepcionante. Era evidente que no tenían suficiente personal en este domingo en particular, y cuando pedí la comida, no les quedaba ningún pavo, ni Fish and Chips (que era la segunda opción de mi novio). Pedimos entrantes que tardaron un poco en llegar. Yo tenía setas de ajo que no eran muy agradables. La salsa era muy grasa y tenía un extraño color amarillo brillante. Luego esperamos durante mucho tiempo a que llegaran nuestros platos principales, y cuando lo hicieron, nos sentimos muy decepcionados. Esperábamos que la comida compensara la espera, pero desafortunadamente no fue así. Tuve una cena de carne asada, y tengo que decir que fue uno de los peores asados que he tenido. Cada elemento era bastante terrible. Las papas asadas se quemaron hasta que quedaron crujientes, el pudín de Yorkshire estaba duro, el brócoli era blando, las zanahorias duras y la salsa con grumos. La única parte comestible era la carne masticable. Mi novio tenía la lasaña al final, y dijo que sabía un poco 'off'. Nadie vino a recoger nuestros platos, así que no pudimos compartir nuestra insatisfacción, y nos fuimos. No volveré aquí para comer de nuevo.

Popped in for Sunday lunch and what a treat.

I came here for a family meal and to my delight ‘Double Cheese Nachos’ was listed on the menu and my eyes lit up . I hastily ordered the delicious sounding nachos at the bar . The nachos arrived in a timely manner however much to my disappointment there was only a light dusting of cheese and a stingy helping of sour cream and salsa (Disappointment number 1). I protested to the waitress that I was not satisfied with the cheese situation . The waitress darted back to the kitchen with my nachos in tow. Some minutes later the nachos arrived back however much to my disappointment again all they had done was add a dash of liquid cheese . (Disappointment Number 2) . DOUBLE DISAPPOINTMENT. I am now left staring at a naked plate of nachos scantily clad with cheese .

I recently came here for a Christmas meal with around 60 of us from a society at Cardiff uni! Everyone was so accommodating and did everything they could to make our Christmas meal perfect! The food was lovely- I had the soup, the veggie main and the chocolate torte and all 3 courses were brilliant.

Visited the Heath last week for our University society’s Christmas dinner. Couldn’t be faulted - the service was excellent, the food out quickly and distributed in great time and was really lovely as well as a fab atmosphere. Thank you!

I could not begin to recommend the Heath enough. I booked a party of 60 guests for Christmas dinner and the manager Darren was so helpful from the get-go. We had a few alterations right up until about an hour before our booking (on Wednesday 12th December) and he was kind and courteous about each of them. As soon as we arrived the staff were willing to help us find our tables, serve us drinks etc. Also despite the booking being for 7pm, they were more than happy to hold off the starters until 7.30 when everyone had arrived and got their drinks.

I recently had a christmas dinner party at this venue and it was fantastic yet again! The service was great, the food was delicious - would highly recommend if you're a fan of a roast dinner!

I actually really like this place. It's nothing fancy but it does all the thing a modern British pub should do. It's comfortable; never too loud with irritating live music or pub quizzes every night, but never dead either. This makes it welcoming and inviting and a nice place to catch up with friends over a beer. Talking of which the drinks on offer are exactly what they should be, too - unfussy, decent and cheap. It's a similar deal with the food on offer - no Michelin stars here but cheap tasty food and quick service all day. There's sport shown in the bar, too. Easy to recommend.

Spent a lovely evening here celebrating a colleagues retirement, Darren the landlord was very helpful and accommodating. We pre ordered the Christmas buffet which was all delicious, the atmosphere in the pub was fantastic and we all enjoyed the live music. Fantastic night will definitely be returning, thank you !

Watched the Wales v South Africa Game. 50 minutes into the game we got told the table we were on was reserved and we would have to move shortly. Obviously when we sit down to watch a rugby game we intend to watch the whole thing. Poor organisation that we weren’t informed of this earlier or that there was no sign on the table. No consideration of customers. We potentially would have had food and more drinks here. We live locally as well and have visited this pub regularly therefore it is disappointing that this seems to occur often. If visiting please be aware that service is inconsistent and not customer led. Also it took 10 minutes to get a drink with several bar staff. Some changes should be made!

Booked a table for 3 plus dog for Sunday lunch, arrived to find table reserved complete with dog water bowl filled ready to go. We had two starters Mushrooms and Fish n chips both were excellent. The latter being a bit different but a nice change. All main courses were good and very reasonably priced. Staff were excellent even when our dog knocked over the water bowl, they mopped it up with no fuss, all staff were friendly and welcoming at all times. Will definitely be going back.
