The food was hot and delicious. The staff were friendly and the atmosphere was great. Regulars to the pub were very friendly and welcoming.

Great place for chat and good ales largers

6 people on a quite Sunday night, was told to move from the bar. The guy that served us was lovely. But the female bar staff....

Great traditional pub. Four ales on cask, plus another eight or so drafts. I didn't try the food, but I overheard others saying they enjoyed theirs.

Friendly staff. Good service. Food was decent pub grub.

Nice welcome when walked in, noticed they were just putting on a barrel of one of my favourite beers (Rev James) which was beautifully kept. Lovely lunch, reasonable price, arrived promptly and hot & tasty too. Will definitely return!

So so expensive won't go back. It's a brains pub!!! 2 pints £12+.

Popped down to Cardiff and needed a place to eat. Had a wonderful meal, really nice cider. Staff are wonderful and friendly. Really good gluten free options also.

This was the final stop on a mystery walking tour of Cardiff looking for a painting. We were a family of 2 adults and 3 late teens early 20s. We hadn't planned to stay but the pub was relatively quiet compared to most others around (Saturday around 6) so we stayed and had cocktails and I had AF IPA. Cocktails were good and always good to have a proper AF beer, Shipyard IPA, instead of the usual fizzy AF lagers. Staff were super friendly and welcoming, brought the drinks, cleaned the table and even wished us well when we left. Couldn't fault them at all. Will certainly come again

Great little pub. The food was nice and the service was great.

We had a fab few hours at The Duke Of Wellington. The food was lush- I had chicken wings others snacked on chips and garlic bread. All delicious. The beer was fab too but best of all was the service by Emily and Luke. Both super professional and friendly. It is this type of service that takes you from a good time to a really special time. Probably one of the very few traditional style pubs in Cardiff left. It would be a great loss for Cardiff if it were to close as they sadly are these days 😊

Have been here numerous times now, all of which have been positive, and respectable experiences. Food is always lovely, and nothing is too much bother, in terms of removing certain things from a burger and the such. Great selection of draught drinks. service is always lovely, with smiling faces and a welcoming atmosphere. Sometimes there are a few rowdy or disrespectful customers, and staff often time seem hesitant to deal with them, hence the lost star on atmosphere. Up the Duke!!!

Really nice place to go. Bar staff was very friendly and helpful. Food was lovely, rump steak was amazingly cooked.

Lovely pub for a pint whilst in Cardiff!

Visiting Cardiff for our 10 year anniversary and we popped in to the Duke on a Friday night. Lovely welcome and great brains options on tap. We enjoyed it so much we spent the Saturday afternoon watching the six nations, enjoying the food and drinks. Lots of options for watching the sport with the magic mirrors turning into TVs! Witchcraft I tell ya! Food was really tasty and excellent service throughout.

My husband and I are newcomers to Wales, and we love exploring the local culture. We first visited Duke of Wellington during our initial tour of south Wales and found the atmosphere relaxing and cozy. Yesterday, we were in the region hunting for an apartment, and my husband suggested we stop and have a slightly early dinner, since we had walked for miles already. We had your fish and chips and a couple of Brains beers. It was just what we needed to get going again, and the wait staff were wonderful. They are accommodating, attuned to customer needs, and willing to offer service above what is expected. We will definitely come back.

great atmosphere, the food was amazing and was very hot, amanda, will and tom were very helpful and attentive and made sure we had everything throughout our meals i had to get their names as i was so impressed with their service. thank you, we will definitely be returning

Friendly helpful staff, so clean and tidy, Luke, liv, Aggy were great in particular. Great bar snacks. Would recommend to everyone, felt very safe place and always keeping it clean.

Bog Standard pub and food need to put gherkins in burgers and have tabasco behind bar also I m a chef and the burgers are old

Our 2nd visit to this pub !!!! We loved it so much 2 years ago on a visit to Cardiff - we made it out mission to visit again this year. City centre, just behind main shopping centre, great quality food at a reasonable price, speedy service and clean tables!!!

Popped in for a spot of lunch the other day. Fav pub, lovely wine and the food was delicious. I had the chicken club sandwich! Luke, the lovely young chap behind the bar was very helpful and a great bar man. Will be going back for sure!

I had a really disappointing experience at this pub in Cardiff. The service was incredibly slow, and the staff seemed uninterested in helping customers. The food was subpar, and my meal was cold when it arrived. The atmosphere was noisy and chaotic, making it hard to enjoy a conversation. Overall, I left feeling frustrated and unsatisfied. I won't be returning anytime soon.

The glass collector was so rude. There were 16 of us but we left because he kept shouting at people and pushing past. Manners cost nothing.

A busy pub in which to have lunch in the middle of busy Christmas shopping

Proper pub. Can get busy but usually able to get a seat. Great service, good food and decent Brains beer and guest selection. Recommend the Barry Island ipa.

This is an excellent pub' despite its external appearance, which is a little antiquated. Inside the atmosphere was pleasant and, by contrast, the decor modern without being garish. They had 3 types of Brains on draft: Bitter (3.7% abv), SA (Skull Attack, 4% abv) and SA Gold (Skull Attack, Grievous? 4.2%abv). The Best Brains that I have ever tasted. All are very good session ales. Sadly, Brains Dark was not available. I did not eat, so no comments upon the food.

In general, this is a good pub with friendly staff but it often shuts much earlier than advertised. Tonight (Saturday) was another example - I went to the bar for another drink at 11:20pm & the barmaid asked her manager if she could serve me, he said “yeah but bar shuts at 11:30pm” - there was no announcement about this - & for the previous 20 minutes the staff were busy clearing chairs away (obviously in readiness for the next day Rugby international). By the time I was half way down my pint (11:40pm) the music was switched off & the place had completely cleared out because it was obvious they wanted us to leave. My point is - this was a Saturday night & advertised closure was 12pm & there was no announcement about the early closure! As a local & regular this was Very disappointing! Definitely not a pub for regulars!

The place is very nice and has a very good pub ambience. A little cold due to the open doors. Everything we tried on the menu was great. A little loud but I guess it is part of the experience. Overall it would make the Duke himself proud.

Warm burger was accompanied by STONE COLD chips ! Would not recommend eating here !

No service there. To see allergens you had to go to the complicated website, although the keeper could have provided information. After the bartender had to repeatedly help us with the website, he recklessly put the cell phone in beer at the bar twice. And that wasn't it. By the way, the whole pub is dirty and the tables are sticky. Not recommended, never again!

Ordered food and told there was a wait which was fine, food came and what a disappointment, ordered a side of chips which were forgotten about,had to ask twice where they were,eventually came after about 25 minutes after eating our food, shocking place.

Great beer selection, good friendly staff. The brains SA is always excellent. Great for a beer before or after rugby. Will be returning.

Good grief, what a filthy pub. I popped in for a drink, drink spills on the table food crumbs on the chair. The best part was finding the cleaning spray and blue paper on the bar so I could clean up before sitting down. The staff on duty were having a great chatty evening. Please please team get cleaning it was really awful. Not going to eat here in a hurry

Dirty tables with empty glasses and spillage, but the staff are having a good natter while it's quiet. This place has gone downhill.

The bar has a lovely atmosphere. The staff was incredibly helpful and knowledgeable about the drinks served. Everything went smoothly and I would recommend the place to anyone!

Service was good the food was fine except the rump steak had been overcooked and had tendons running through it. I pointed this out to a member of staff and all they did was shrug their shoulders and took my plate away.

We were aimlessly walking around Cardiff with our dog when a lovely individual told us to try the duke of wellington and wow so so glad we did... The food was incredible best Mac and cheese ever and the steak was perfectly cooked and cut with a spoon... Reasonable priced and lovely wine list ... Can't thank Alex enough very helpful friendly and bubbly Thanks team for a wonderful experience

Needs a good clean and refurbish

My wife and I popped in the pub on Monday as we have previously visited and found the staff and atmosphere amazing, once again the staff were really friendly and welcoming, I would like to make a special mention to Amanda who really friendly and chatty as she was when we previously visited, we will be back again !!

The Duke is a great traditional pub, bustling and busy, with a good selection of fine ales and tasty food, served quickly and at very reasonable prices. I was staying at the adjacent Marriott, in need of a taste of Wales, and the Duke of Wellington did the job. The historic Duke himself, of Napoleonic Wars fame, though a national hero in the UK, was a Dublin-born Irishman.

Very nice food but steak was a little tuff this time but still good and will go back 👍🏼

Always a regular here on my visits to the city centre. So this was the place we selected to spend most of our time when Bruce Springsteen was in town. Group of us were here from 7 pm on Saturday night till closing had a great night. Then back again after the show on the Sunday till closing. We all had a great time Guiness was good even though in a plastic pint. In fact went back there on the Monday and sat outside for a few hours before getting the train home. Staff were excellent service was really good with such a big event on. Special call out to Alex. Looking forward to my next visit. Keep up the hard work.

I had an enjoyable mixed grill. It was tender and tasty. I'd recommend and go again. The bar staff were friendly as well.

One of our favourite bars in the city. Perfect for an afternoon people watching, chatting away and enjoying some drinks. It has been a starting bar on a pub crawl, a quiet afternoon tipple and a last stop on a boozy night. Fab pub with lovely staff!

Sunday Roast was well prepared with a variety of components. The cut of meat however was not up to my standards.

Another nice city centre traditional pub. Lovely building. Nice staff and a good place for a great pint of Guinness.
