Lovely pub restaurant, the staff were friendly and efficient. We booked for Sunday lunch, the food was excellent, the roast beef was particularly tender and the portion sizes were generous. The side orders of veg were large enough for three. The pub is dog friendly and has a very pleasant atmosphere, perfect for a quiet Sunday lunch.

The level of presentation when it comes to the Food combined with the taste in perfect yet simple harmony makes this Pub really stand out from the others. In town for a wedding and needed somewhere to eat as some of the party gathered from around the country at their accommodation. The Cricketers was handy for all to get to. They had no problem adding to the numbers of the booking as more arrived, and we ended up with 11 in the party. The waitress serving us, Ruth, couldn't have been more accommodating and friendly. Despite being very busy, she made time to help with whatever we needed and made the whole experience a pleasure. All other staff were lovely as well. The only small niggle, one of the dishes had been over salted, but that took very little away from our experience. Thank you all.

What a great pub. We stopped in for a quick lunch. My husband asked for a recommendation for beer on tap. Liam then brought a “taste” of 4 different beers for us to try, but the quantity in each taste was like a small beer! Then he brought another glass of the one that I said I liked (the house beer). There was so much that we asked him to just charge us for the tastes as we could not drink any more! Ruth provided the requested quick service for the food we ordered and she was very friendly.

A great old house converted into a great venue to eat and drink. The menu at the cricketers was very different in a very good way. The choice of food and drink was exceptional and it is very dog friendly. The service was excellent and as I say the choices on the menu were not your usual. All the food was delivered beautifully and tasted great, The choices of wine were good also, as were other drinks.

I don’t usually write reviews but felt this needed to be said. We arrived at 15:20 and as we ordered drinks asked if they were still serving food, we were told yes they are and handed menus. After 5 minutes of deliberation we returned to the bar to order two sandwiches. We were then told that the kitchen is closed as the chef had gone on his break and food isn’t available. Quite frustrating that we weren’t told this would be the case five minutes ago when we arrived. We then noticed that the chef was sat outside in the smoking area , vaping, alongside us. He proceeded to do this, whilst chatting to the bar staff who was also outside vaping, for over an hour. The place was quiet, we were the only customers wanting to order food, they could have served us food then gone on break, it wasn’t as if they needed a break from the busy afternoon rush. We then tried to order again at the time they’d told us the break would be over. Only to be told the chef was still on his break… he shortly returned to the smokers area to continue. Such a nice pub but this was a shocking show of customer service and care for any customer at all! Will not be returning!

We went there as a group on a very busy bank holiday Sunday. They were super accommodating and fitted us in, despite being fully booked. The whole team was super friendly, and we felt very welcome. Drinks: Great beers - we’re a fan of their own brewed Liberty lager (4.1%), but they have a good choice or original ales, and a great wine menu. Food: We all had a range of Sunday roast plates. All of the food was great, with especially excellent Yorkshire puddings. For dessert, we shared a whole Basque cheesecake, every crumb of which was finished off. Atmosphere: I honestly can’t fault it. They do so much to welcome and accommodate guests, with a flexible ‘say yes’ attitude to doing what they can to make things possible. All the staff were friendly and smiley. The managers, Sophy and Liam, have really got it right. I cannot recommend The Cricketers enough. (I just wish we lived closer!)

We visited on a very busy day in Cardiff due to a Bruce Springsteen concert at the Principality Stadium. We had pre booked our table for Sunday Lunch and I was so glad we had as the Cricketers was as busy as everywhere else in Cardiff. However we were unrushed and we enjoyed every morsel placed in front of us. My beef was cooked to perfection and accompanying vegetables were equally well cooked. My partner opted for the vegetarian option of Spiced Beetroot Wellington and from the small bite full she reluctantly gave me, I can say that it was outstanding. There wasn't a lot of conversation between us as we savored every bite other than the Mmmm's and yums passing our lips. We shared a generous portion of homemade baked Cheesecake with Berry sauce and again was delicious. We were even offered another slice on the house due to a mix up on the order but our bellies were bursting by this time and we could see they needed the table as more and more people were coming through the doors. A special mention to our server Harry who although very young was very professional and nothing was too much trouble for him. On top of that the ales on offer were very squaffable. Thoroughly enjoyable meal served by top class staff. Looking forward to our return very soon.

We arrived late afternoon with a dog in tow, tired and cold after a wet shopping trip in the City. After ordering our drinks we were told that the kitchen had closed but would reopen at 1630 if we were happy to wait. The young barmaid apologised for not informing us of this sooner and explained that she had been working on her own due to staff sickness and had lost track of time. No problem, we were happy to wait in the warm and dry. The barmaid came over with treats and water for our dog and even made sure we were kept informed as to when we could put in our food order. Once ordered the food arrived quickly and was very tasty, a decent but not too large a portion and reasonably priced. All in all, a lovely friendly pub with decent food and we were impressed by the young barmaid who went out of her way to make us feel welcome. We will visit again when in the area.

We barley touched the beef and spoke to a member of staff and showed how impossible it was to cut into one of the slices of beef as it was nothing but connective tissue only to have our comment brushed off and our plates taken away - we weren’t even offered an apology let alone a complimentary drink. I recently had the displeasure of visiting The Cricketers pub in Cardiff, and I must say, it was an extremely disappointing experience. From the moment I walked through the door, I was greeted by the obnoxious presence of the landlord, who seemed more interested in his own ego than in providing a pleasant atmosphere for customers. To make matters worse, the beer served at this establishment was truly abysmal. I tried a few different options in hopes of finding something decent, but each one tasted flat, stale, and lacking any sort of flavor. The pub clearly has no standards when it comes to the quality of their beers, and it left me questioning their commitment to providing a positive drinking experience. On top of the terrible beer, the overall ambiance of The Cricketers was lackluster. The decor looked tired and neglected, and it seemed as though no effort was made to create a warm and inviting atmosphere. It felt more like a run-down dive rather than a welcoming pub. Furthermore, the service was slow and unprofessional. The staff appeared disinterested and provided minimal attention to customers. It's evident that the lack of enthusiasm and care shown by the landlord has trickled down to the rest of the staff, resulting in an overall lack of customer service. Overall, I would strongly advise against visiting The Cricketers pub. With an obnoxious landlord who clearly prioritizes his own ego over customer satisfaction, coupled with the dismal quality of their beer, it was an experience that left me feeling disappointed and regretful. Save your time and money by seeking out other pubs in the area that actually value their customers and take pride in serving quality beverages.

Having been to the Cricketers for a sunday lunch before, I was keen to go back. They had these amazing vegetarian sausages!! However, the food this time was a definite reconfirmation, after being told by the staff, that they have changed the chef. The food tasted good, however, the execution of the dishes left a lot to be desired. The stuffing was so dry it broke into crumbs when cut into, the roasted vegetables were tough despite a roasted appearance, the portions of vegetables with the meal have severely shrunk, the pork was dry and the crackling fairly inedible. Yorkshire pretty solid though. If this had been for a more modest price then I would let it slide, however, for £17 a head this really was too much and very disappointing. Especially as the Cricketers used to have one of the best Sunday lunches in Pontcanna. I have even recommended it to alot of people. Until they change chefs again, I will not be going back there for food and will discourage anyone who wants to go. If you want a great Sunday lunch, go to Chapter (amazing vegetarian option), Robin Hood, Lansdowne, Brewhouse and kitchen, and even Toby Carvery.

The Cricketers pub was a dreadful experience due to the landlord's behavior. The service was incredibly rude, and the atmosphere felt unwelcoming. The beer served was subpar and not properly chilled. The overall cleanliness was disappointing, especially the unhygienic restrooms. I would strongly advise against visiting this pub if you're seeking a pleasant and enjoyable time. There are much better options available where you can be treated with respect and have a more enjoyable experience

This is a really sad review. Been going to the Cricketers for the whole five years I've been in Cardiff for special occasions and when I fancy more elevated pub food. I booked a table for this evening because my cousin is visiting from France....

We booked (in the week) for a meal for 5 people. They took our order then said there was a wedding and food would be 1 and a half hours. Had they told us when we arrived (at 2.30) we would have ordered earlier. They offered a free round of drinks. We had to move on for food as one of our party has diabetes and needs to eat at certain times. Very disappointed as have always had good service and good food.

Called in for light lunch. Excellent food from a very innovative menu.. This is not bought in run of the mill pub food. Chef knows what he is doing

Really friendly staff, good beer, great food (and in particular, spectacular chips!) and dog friendly, with water and treats. The fish and chips was particularly good but so was the pie and burger apparently! We will definitely be returning!

Great place and very inviting! I was looking for a great meal and realized that I had to take it instead. They were very accommodating and the meal was fantastic! Highly recommend them for beers and food.

Food was poor. Bland and dry. The selection of beers and ciders was pitfall. Would not recommend.

Booked in for Sunday lunch. This was a set menu and on paper looked good. I opted for the "Cockles on Laver Bread, and we bother decided on the Roast Turkey. Whilst waiting we ordered drinks. Unfortunately for me I ordered a Gin and Tonic....

Food was fine but really weird service. Young lad at the bar initially took our order and my friends food arrived promptly but mine didn't appear. I went to ask and found that my order hadn't been passed up to the kitchen. Another young lad...

I placed an order on their website for 3 jellycat bunnies, however my order got cancelled 2 days later because they were out of stock, why didn't they remove it from their website if no stock. Very disappointing as I really wanted the bunnies and a waste of my time, also they do not reply to emails. Will not use this company again!!

Came across this place after walking around and finding a lot of chain restaurants which we didn't really want. My friend and I had a pasta, bread and a bottle of wine, all of which were lovely. I thought it was well priced compared to some Italian restaurants I've been to recently. One thing, I've looked at its website and it doesn't show a menu. I'd like to bring some friends here but I know they'd like to see the menu first. I, however would definitely come here again.

I’ve been coming here for a number of years, recently the quality of the staff has seriously diminished, they’re just plain rude, unhelpful and have a terrible attitude
