Coffee was good but dislike paper cups when seated indoors, a bit expensive too

Visited on 30th March. Service was poor , staff getting mixed up with orders as system allowed orders to be made on app without adding a table number apparently so staff walking around aimlessly shouting names out. Ordered at counter. Sat at a table that had not been cleaned. Team member oblivious to it when taking order. Ordered 2 loaded fries and a wrap. Wrap ok but loaded fries awful. They were dry and next to no pulled pork for £12.50 a portion!! In stark comparison to the takeaway below purchased in the cotswolds today. Will definitely not be returning

This place was a great find, with fabulous views of the bay. The veggie wraps were great - particularly the falafel one. The only negative was the insistance - when ordering via the app - to add a tip, before even being served. Very odd.

Only taking self-service orders on a screen placed in front of the counter. Staff run off their feet and too busy to take orders in person. I’m off somewhere else then. Epic fail Coffi Co. Where is the human interaction? The art of coffee?

Great view both inside and outside especially enjoyable on a sunny day. There’s a long queue to order, despite an ordering machine which doesn’t seem to really help. You need to order at the bar (or the machine) which really seems to slow down the process. Some items were out of stock and the orders are often coming on plastic/card cutlery and dishes instead of something you’d find in a real place

Understandably super popular (esp. on a sunny, summer weekend for breakfast / brunch), you can wait a while for a table. A lovely setting over the water with good brunch options. Service can be very slow and some of them a bit snappy when they're busy.

A great location tarnished by pretentious and impatient staff?: We had a strange first experience to say the least. Upon entering there was a great atmosphere thanks to the customers, all different walks of life; business people, parents with their kids etc. However the positives ended there for us. To start, the first member of staff that greeted us seemed nice and welcoming. However her demeanour quickly changed when a short man (I assume the manager) informed us we can only eat upstairs and doesn't think there's spaces left. We went up to find it almost empty! so claimed a table and went back down to order. The menu explained that you can have your eggs 'your way'. The man again butted into our servers conversation explaining that they don't do scrambled eggs? Our server looked fed up at this point, we ordered two all day brunches, two coffees and pastries. God forbid that I asked about nut allergens which earned me an eye roll. The food came fairly quickly and was alright, pastries were burnt, but the coffee was great. Overall I would not recommend this place, for the premium prices you're paying I expect a baseline level of customer service which just wasn't there. We were nothing but polite during our visit and I kept my grievances aside for this review :)

All drinks are served in paper cups and paper cutlery was given even though it's a large sit in cafe. Very wasteful. It's dog friendly so lots of barking dogs inside even though there's a large area to sit outside so doesn't feel needed to have dogs inside, the tables were dirty and our table was covered in dog hair, crumbs and dirt. It's a shame, this place is in such a beautiful location and there's so much potentital, seems wasted.

Great breakfast, really nice location

We ordered fully loaded breakfast baps for five of us, waited 50 mins, then got the baps. The hash browns were missing from them all and the egg missing from three of them. When we asked the waitress said that they’d run out of hash browns but we could have the eggs on a separate plate if we really wanted them. We asked for cutlery and got one set between the five of us. The staff were too busy and flustered and it seemed chaotic. Not good.

While this is an ideal location to have a drink break from exploring Cardiff Bay, the atmosphere and service is surprisingly shocking. You’d expect a sit down cafe to actually serve you hot drinks in proper cups, opposed to paper cups. The staff working here do not appear interested in customers coming into the restaurant and their service standard is rather rude by simply shoving “food” and drinks on the table with no care. Some food items are edible, but not the best presented. Several items were out of stock, but not displayed on the online menu.

Shared dirty fries and banana loaf sitting in the sun outside with our dog and trike. Great food, place and service.

Fantastic breakfast (the Traditional), not the cheapest but well worth it. Nice hot coffee too, friendly service, and great views of the harbour. Very glad my wife persuaded me to come here instead of the Spoons :)

My partner and I ordered coffees to go and they were lovely. Definitely get what you pay for. And thankfully the coffee wasn't scorching hot, so we could have our drinks straight away!

Popped in this morning & feel Customer service is just a bit dead these days. I thought the bar tender said hello to me so I was polite and responded to which he said I’m talking to delivery man sorry, so I waited until he was done & after that I asked whether I order at the table or at the bar and the young boys response was “yeah you order at the bar but iv gotta put the stock away”From my years in hospitality, Prioritising is a great skill that improves life dramatically, You can put 2 crates of water away once you’ve taken 60 seconds to make a cup of tea or even better tell me none of what you’ve got to do & just politely ask me to give you a minute. It wasn’t busy & I would have been happy ordering on an app at the table & waiting until he had done whatever but his odd response sent me somewhere else, Usually a great place for a quiet tea but on this note I’d rather sit on a bench & write this review. Felt great

They kicked me out when I wanted to study. As I collected my coffee, this male waiter with missing teeth came to me and dealt with me in an awful manner. Talking to me about “it’s lunch and you’re not allowed to sit here and study.” It took 20 minutes for me to get to that place and the fact that I was essentially kicked out, without a second thought. Never would I go again, with such bad mannerisms from a waiter.

Great coffee, great food (love the bao buns) and great views. Upstairs is spacious with nice botanical (albeit faux) decor, and excellent for stroller free seating... 😉. Gets a bit warm up there if the heating's on but that makes it great in the winter! Always a friendly greeting and good service in my experience.

Appalling service. I've been to other Coffi Co locations and never had an issue with the service but I've had issues being served here a few times. I went here today for brunch and was told it was a 20 minute wait for drinks and that they had closed the kitchen for food (this was around 12:30). I went for brunch elsewhere and came back here for a hot drink and they told me it would be a 20 minute wait still. I said that's fine and ordered a chai latte, I asked about the hot chocolate options as I wanted to order a drink for my partner and was having trouble accessing the menu via the QR code (which I explained to the young man behind the counter) however he was extremely extremely rude and said 'I don't have time to go through all of that, I'm really busy' so I cancelled my order and went elsewhere. I wonder if the owners of the establishment are aware that the stuff are turning away custom and in such a rude manner too.

Nice to sit beside water - lovely view. Dog friendly place. Fantastic cakes. Will probably come back to try the lush looking breakfast menu.

My croissant was very stale. But the coffee is good.

I got FOOD POISONING! Five day horrible illness from a chicken burger. There was also a funny smell, and was not clean. Needs an overhaul.

AWFUL!!! Went with friends just after 5 on Sunday 15th Oct 2023. Wanted to order hot drinks and cakes. Told by a man behind counter that although they had cakes they wouldn't allow us to have any because they had shut off the sales as they were being put away. Customer service was like the cakes - non existent!! Awful - went to nearby cafe and spent £35 there instead.

Great location, expensive (fast) food but friendly staff. But sitting outside is a challenge with the seagulls attacking the leftover food on tables. If there was more staff to clean the tables this wouldn't happen. Shame really, that customers have to clean their own tables before they sit. Today, again, we had to leave as the seagulls were everywhere, all tables full of leftovers. Shame really.

Arrived an hour before closing on a Sunday. Told we’d have to leave by 5.30 and that we couldn’t have a cake because it was “too late for his system to sell them to us” regular users of Coffi Co containers and bayscape but found mermaid Quay unwelcoming.

Disappointing experience , member of the team at the till at 5pm Sunday 15th extremely unwelcoming and rude told us they couldn’t serve cake just drinks. We went to the coffee shop next door where the experienced was lovely and relaxed. Would not recommend

This place is beautiful over looking cardiff bay, nice decor inside cakes for so gooood !!

the hospitality here is amazing…we came and while we were browsing the menu one of the staff told us that we can’t be here because our 3 year old son had an ice cream cone. Off course I will not throw it away so we just left

Pretty busy on a Sat morning. Seating upstairs, inside and outdoors. Lots of staff. Full meals if you want. I just had coffee and cinnamon roll. It was good, and prices are standard.

1*. One particular member of staff (skinny male with glasses) was very off-hand and monotonous. Having not been here before I asked if dogs were allowed upstairs and I was told our options were to sit outside (was raining) or to basically ask other guests with spare seats to sit see if we could latch on with them (all tables were taken). The tone of the staff member's voice was abrupt and, frankly, rude, so much so I left and went somewhere else. PS - Cosy Club across the Quay was fantastic in contrast. I'd suggest the staff member should go there for a lesson in how to welcome customers.

If you want a mediocre coffee in a cardboard cup (no proper coffee cups) and pay full price then this is the place for you. Couldn't believe my eyes when they gave me hot milk for my espresso in a plastic sauce holder. Shameful.

In our group of 4 people only 1 person received what they ordered. Two were given the incorrect wraps/sandwich (wrong meat) and for the 3rd meal they offered cheese & Mushroom toastie instead of the croissant as they'd run out of croissants. It was dry toast, 1 tiny slice of presliced cheese (didn't cover the bread, was dry and tasteless) & dry uncooked mushrooms. The worst meal and service I can ever remember receiving. We are visitors in Cardiff and this was not a good start. Would not recommend this place.

Good location but staff do not care and the coffee is not very good, not worth the price (which is above average compared to other coffee shops in the area)

Dirty, toilets disgusting and pricey.

Beautiful views and food is nice. Staff can be a bit hit and miss but still worth a visit. The cakes are amazing!! Only complaint is the coffee is as hot as lava, let it cool before you take a sip!

The place we went to without any prior knowledge, although it has a fantastic location, was quite disappointing in terms of food and service quality. The Vegan breakfast for four people was way below expectations, we do not have high quality expectations , normal is fine to us , with cold mushrooms, eggs, and stale butter-soaked bread. Despite not finding what we wanted for breakfast, I don't know why we insisted on coffee and dessert. Please don't judge food /dessert by the appearance ; the dessert we thought was Nutella-based turned out to have a completely different and tasteless filling. Let's not even talk about the coffee; it seems like they use the cheapest product available. It's a relief that the server at the cashier didn't accidentally drop the plates on our heads while serving :). Of course, considering the service and food quality, the prices are remarkably higher.

Told to use app to order meal only to see that manager can place order from computer. Paper cups & tin plates. Coffee not good. Felt like cheap "on-the-go" venue & service Prices are above average! Not worth it.

Too slow. Waited about 45mins on a Thursday morning for hot food. Spent about £15 for veggie breakfast and tea. Food was tasty but would rather have my food quicker

This place was such a disappointment. We went during early afternoon for a late brunch. Staff was ok, not like they cared. Tables were dirty and untidy, floor was dirty. Food was not great so definitely not worth the price. Yes, it looks cute but i wouldn’t recommend it for food at all.

Great coffee, lovely views of the bay, only had a coffee but the cakes looked wonderful however we were sent up and down the stairs twice to get a seat and toilet not the cleanest.

It's really gone down hill. Prices have increased, they've added some strange extra price for eating in which the employees agreed is absolutely extortionate, got rid of the best items such as pasties and the main guy who I think owns it (a foreign guy) never ever smiles and constantly looks angry. The food is good hence three stars but alas only just

In the past much better place than now. Before NICE sofas,coffe served in the mug, place had lovely vibe. Today paper cups, dirty and poor gold table , food is ok but not excelent. View still same but unfortunately you don't wana back again. So sad.

So slow, be ready to wait 15min for a coffee. The only thing going for this place is the location. Also £3.40 for a mediocre flat white. Instead go to the Senedd, they have a great coffee shop with a great interior view of the building!

Great location for a beer/coffee/tea with a good selection of cakes. Lovely views over Cardiff Bay. Looks like there's a nice restaurant area on the upper floor as well, but it was closed when we visited.

Really disappointing - no real cups so we had to have paper ones even though we were sitting in. No vegan food options on the menu and nothing gluten free either.

Rude staff when we visited, also at the time of visiting there was a undisclosed 7.5 per cent service charge added. It's now disclosed after we complained. I hadn't seen my dear friends since before Christmas because of illness, totally ruined our day out.

The coffee and the view are great, however the service from the staff is really bad. They were very moody to take our order firstly and rushed when it wasn't busy. We went to sit on a table which was left dirty so we asked if they could clean it first. The waitor came with a spray and the cake we ordered, placed the cake on the table and he was about to spray right next to the cake. Needles to say no forks for the cake just a knife so we went to ask for them too. When they gave the forks they touched them on the part you're supposed to eat which is not good. Then, it was time to close. We didn't know what time they were closing and nobody let us know in advance. They kicked out a couple in a rude way and then I asked them if they are closing now and the lady said aggressively "We are closed now" so we just took our stuff and left. Basic service clearly lucking and this is not the first time it had happened.

Cake’s are always out of stock, especially the cookie dough one, which i’ve come down here three times and its been out of stock everytime fuming, isnt worth price eitherrr

The worst and most expensive dirty fries I have ever had. £10. Described on the menu as fries, with melted cheese, CRISPY bacon, bbq sauce. What I had was a large portion of fries, barely cooked bacon, a ton of bbq sauce…no cheese? Except when I finally ate some of the fries I saw one morsel of dry melted piece of cheddar cheese on one fry toward the bottom so they must have put some in, just a crumb of it. I honestly can’t believe they are charging £10 for this. I’ve had cheaper dirty fries for way better quality. Unfortunately this is not the first time I’ve had bad food here, there doesn’t seem to be any quality control. And it will be the last time I order food and waste money. It’s a shame because a few years ago it was good and I loved supporting the business, now not so much. Their coffee is decent and their desserts are decent but I won’t be giving them any more money for cooked food.

Staff were abrupt, not even a smile or a polite chat, they began talking in their own language while serving us. Coffee was ok, but over priced. We contemplated having cake but these were out on display with no covering and situated next to the toilet entrance so needless to say we gave those a miss! No gluten free options available, Would not recommend.

Always a go to stop when walking the dog down the bay! Perfect place to watch the sunset. Friendly staff & the app makes it really easy to order exactly what you're looking for.

The place looks nice and has a great view, food tasted good. BUT the drinks come in disposable cups, which I find neither sustainable rather reflects the high price.

We went to this place thought it is coffee shop , but it is pub , the place is ok not nice furnished , it is simple , the coffee not nice and they use disposable cups, the muffins not nice and expensive , I don’t like the food , it is only place by sea , inside very hot and can’t open the windows, so imagine in summer would be like sauna

I was with a group of walkers, coffee and cakes/teacakes were just the boost we needed! Plus our little dog was welcome too...!

Rude and racist staff. Needed to wait 20mins for a coffee. Table left messy and unclean for my whole visit (1 hour). One of the worst experience in Cardiff.

Gorgeous cakes! Waited a while for our coffees but they were lovely. No china mugs or plates though...paper cups and metal plates. We were sat inside...why was this??

Lately music is too loud for a comfortable conversation. It's a cafe pretending to be a dance club. Sad, as the food is very good.

It’s such a shame that this place has gone so downhill.. I’ve been a fan for a few years and it used to do the best veggie breakfast in Cardiff but sadly we came for brunch this week and were underwhelmed. The food was average, particularly for how much you are paying. My biggest annoyance is the strange management decision to serve all hot drinks in cardboard cups, even when you dine in. When you pay £5-6 for a coffee, this kind of ruins the experience. I’m told this is due to not having space for the dishwasher and is a long term decision. I was half expecting paper plates and wooden cutlery with the food. The view is lovely but I’ll go elsewhere next time.

It was -4 earlier this December when we goes to Coffi Mermaid. Amazing location with panoramic views across Cardiff Bay. Confusing distinction between sitting upstairs and downstairs or outside. Homemade pastries are great as was the hot drinks perfect too. However service was slow..

First time here, really surprised, really enjoyed it

Only had breakfast here, but would recommend.

Normally like it here but the experience is ruined by rude staff. We were served food and charged and then told we had to sit outside because we had drinks from another shop. The server said his boss would tell him off if we sat indoors. We asked if you can put them in a cup from coffee co and we were told no. When asked why, the server said there were "his rules" when asked if the manager was in he said no and told us to email them. Not sure why he thought he could speak to us like this after he served and charged us. Won't go back again.

Walked in here, approached general bar area, waiter barked “order on the app!!!” in a very abrupt manner so I walked straight back out. Can’t rate the coffee as I didn’t get as far as ordering one.

This place is simply marvelous. I can see people are channeling their own frustrations to this bar but at the end of the day this place delivers what it promises. *mic drop
