Starbucks is Starbucks. Great coffee. It’s the staff that make a difference. Today I was served by Jon who was sooo genuinely lovely, without even needing to try, I felt compelled to write a review. I always seem to have a really good experience here. The staff at the Starbucks in the Village are different, even quirky in the best way. They seem to sincerely want you to enjoy your time there without being ‘in your face’. I have been served by a lady there too who also goes above and beyond but today it was who Jon really made my day. I hope they get some recognition. Thanks!

This is one of the slowest place to get a coffee. Took over 10 minutes to make for drinks in front of me. What should’ve been a treat ended up as a frustration

Great coffee, the store isn't too big and doesn't have too many people lined up at once, and is overall a cosy place to pick up a coffee and you just relax for a bit.

This particular Starbucks was convenient for us as we wanted a mid afternoon drink in the Village Hotel. It was exactly as you would expect as people from the pool/gym used it to refuel and socialise - so a good atmosphere. We were very boring and had 2 flat whites!

How disappointing it was to see that we could not have 25%off on my membership card for the carvery meal which my wife and I had.It seems that you have to have 3 courses for this to happen. This after having an email recently saying that my membership fee per month has gone up to £48-presumably to help with funding the new pool!!We shall not be returning for Sunday lunch for a while-even the carvery is nowadays served for you, instead of you helping yourself as it was in the past.

Bar staff who served us wasn't very experienced and didn't seem happy in his job at all . not sure if I like the new layout, preferred it when it was a pub and restaurant separate, very busy with a lot of noise from groups of boys watching the football. Excellent size food portions and very good although a bit expensive. Luckily we had bought the voucher they promoted over the Christmas period which gave us 50 percent off.

Food was lovely. More waitresses needed although waitresses were lovely and Bar tenders too. Our table was booked for 2.30 Service was awful starters took 35 mins to come a further 55 min after main meals. We never complained as there were several other people complaining on that day I think personally you have to bring back the Sunday Carvery and still use the bar menu. We declined on the pudding due to the time in serving us.

Poor service. I had a reservation so waited at the desk for someone to come. 10 minutes I stood alone being ignored. I finally had to go to bar where I was told I could sit anywhere. I advised that I had a reservation. They then sent another staff member over - by this time 20 mins after I entered. I was asked my name and gave it. Then I was told there was no record of my reservation. Since I had proof on my phone we compared devices and my reservation was clearly visible on their tablet device. By the time I ordered my food 30 mins had passed. When it came the black and blue stack was glorious but the noise levels and sitting asa solo diner between two large tables (10 people each) of families with children made it a poor experience

On this occasion our Sunday dinner was poor. Some vegetables under cooked and some over cooked. We paid for a 3 course meal but the only desserts included smoothies and muffins, which we felt were more in line with a breakfast menu. We eat at 15.30 so maybe that was the wrong time. We did complain and received appropriate attention from the manager and a reduction in our bill. We would however of preferred a good meal. We won’t be returning in the near future.

I have been to the Sunday carvery a few times in the past and the menu has been amazing with a good variety of both starters and desserts. Myself and my husband havent been for a few months and we were sad to see the choice of both starters and desserts had changed, there was a poor variety of starters I'm not sure if this was due to the timing of our booking maybe but the choice was definately not great, and as for the desserts i personally would not call them a dessert selection more of a breakfast selection. So unfortunately I found that the price was quite high for what we had and i doubt very much we will be back for any further Sunday Carverys unless the menu changes for the better.

The starters arrived for 8 of us which were nice. Main meals came 2 missing - 1 happened to be the birthday girls! We told them not to bother. Then the two people who hadn’t ordered starters but had ordered a dessert - never had their dessert. Out of the 10 people who paid for 2 course meal - 4 people only ended up having a 1 course meal. We were sat if a very hot noisy area in between the bar and food area. It was uncomfortably hot and massive tv screens on every side meant that conversion was very difficult. The only positive thing I can say about the food was that a good sized portion of the meat was provided. The vegetables were all over cooked and the greens were grey! The worst part of the experience was that they ran out of desserts! The best they could produce was pan au chocolate and croissants. Very disappointed in the whole experience. 2 or so years ago the Sunday lunch was amazing and it’s pretty sad that the restaurant has fallen so far from that.

We really used to enjoy the Sunday dining at the village Cardiff but haven’t been in a few months. We arrived Sunday to celebrate my partners birthday and was really disappointed to see what was once a beautiful restaurant turned into a sports bar. We used to love the atmosphere of the restaurant and staff looked so smart and presentable. Now they are in tracksuits and the noise level was awful. All we could hear was cheering and the banging of the football table. The food selection has really gone down hill, we were disappointed with the lack of selection across the board. Even though the deserts selection was more of a breakfast pastry area it was actually the best part. The only good thing about our experience was the employees. They could not give more to their jobs and were very polite, friendly and hard working. Very disappointed in the whole experience and will sadly not be returning or recommending this place to my family or friend like I have previously done.

The service is mediocre at best and the standard of food is probably the worst I've had in a long time. Booked afternoon tea for a table of 4 for my wife's 60th Birthday. Waited 15 mins at the desk to be seated, I stopped and asked a waitress and was shown a table. After 20 mins we asked for our food when different waitresses asked "have you told anyone you were seated?" I replied "Yes, we were shown to this table". she said 'I will get someone". We were sat by a table of 11 women on a hen weekend so you can imagine the noise. Another person came up to us saying they had no record of our booking so I showed him my confirmation email and he went away and returned later with tea/coffee. Food arrived 10-15 mins later. We noticed, according to the menu, some items missing! I informed a waitress and was told "I'll go and check". Lo and behold 10 mins later a chef came out and plonked a plate down and said "sorry". Several minutes later a waitress asked if we had finished and could she take any plates away! We were then asked if we would like a glass of "FIZZ" as a way of them saying sorry. My daughter said "yes we'll have a bottle". Again a waitress was hovering over us looking to clear the table.
When we finished we waited to see someone to ask for the bill but everyone was busy setting up tables for the night so I went to the bar to pay. I waited for 10 mins whilst people who came after me were served first! Finally I was asked by a young boy "what do you want?" I said "I'd like to settle the bill for tables 57/58". He tapped the till screen, walked away, fiddled with a small box, could not open it so called another staff member over and it opened. He came back, asked for my bank card, handed me a small plastic key asking "do you want to order your food now?" I replied "no I want to pay for 4 afternoons teas" He started looking at the screen again saying "I can't find anything on the screen for you". He went away to find someone who then went to another till to input our bill and I then paid, but the till roll had run out, so had to wait for my receipt.

We were then advised that we cannot give doggy bag for health and safety. Why offer this when you can’t even do it. We then asked the for bill and gave the original waiter the voucher for 2for1. A few minutes later the waiter came back to advise can’t do 2for1 on the meals that we had, even though we specified asked and checked at the start with the same waiter the specific meals that we wanted. We did end up getting the cheaper meal free but only after having to make a fuss, which obviously ruined the whole experience. Would not recommend to others based on the experience we received. Very poor service, below average food for prices charged. Advice for restaurant; if your going to give 2for1 vouchers to members and guests that say 2for1 on all main courses for the pub and restaurant it would be helpful if the menu divides the sections into a heading main courses, the menu just says burgers... ribs.... etc etc nothing under a specific heading and obviously better staff training!

My daughter ordered a drink which unknown to us wasn’t on the child’s menu - had we had one of these, we would have ordered an included drink rather than one at additional cost.
After another 10 minutes we were given a child’s menu and eventually were able to order 10 minutes after that. Given that the restaurant was mostly empty at 6pm and there were lots of staff milling around this was very frustrating with a child hungry after a long swim.
The food itself arrived in good time and was of good quality but seemed rather overpriced. Unfortunately again we were let down by a long delay in anyone approaching us to be able to pay, my husband had to go looking around the restaurant for our waitress eventually.
Bit of a disappointment overall and unlikely to return despite being health club members and having enjoyed the food.

Had a very tasty superfood salad and it was amazing. Staff friendly however service was slow at the bar when waiting to be served for drinks and to pay the bill. However this wouldn’t put me off returning again.

I would recommend due to the great atmosphere for the rugby and screens. However! Lots of staff around but poor service- server tried to sit us in a corner (we had pre booked) away from the screens. Very poor attention to customers. Food overpriced but ok.

We have been to the village may times for lunches/dinner and have raved about it, However booked a table there for Valentine’s evening & was so disappointed. First off they never had our reservation even tho I had 2 emails comfiming this. Then we were asked for our order without being given the menus, my sons meal came out wrong which I pointed out to the waitress and was told she ‘would take the beans off the plate’ it was taken away & never brought back. We had all finished our meals & had to go & ask for my sons meal. Not one person came over to offer us any drinks, offer us a dessert menu or basically knowledge us!!! It was 5pm & we where the only table in the restaurant area so the place was not busy. Thought I would be nice to go out on valentines nite but how wrong was I. On leaving we Passed the manager whom asked it’s everything was alright...when I told her the above all she said was ‘aww sorry’
We will not be going there or recommending it anymore!

Table booked for 2 adults 2 children 5:45Online booking for the Sunday’s carvery or what I thought was. On arrival told the carvery had stopped at 4pm. Nothing online showing this, new menu provided and food ordered. 45 mins wait for food to my horror wrong food ordered. Waitress apologised abd accepted she ordered wrong thing. Our food finally arrived at 7:30 at which point two very restless kids were started to react.

Beef skewers were tough and flavourless and sweet potatoe fries were soggy.

VERY disappointed customer.

After being impressed visiting the village hotel cardiff for Boxing Day lunch in 2017, we decided to revisit. We were very disappointed with the menu. There was limited choice on the buffet, particularly with the veg (2 types of potato, carrots and sprouts) no Yorkshire puddings. Staff were friendly but since the refurbishment food quality seems to be poor and the ambience of the restaurant leaves much to be desired.

All their Xmas specials (drinks) were unavailable. £5 for a warm (and I mean like warm) panini. I settled for a plain hot chocolate which was tepid if that. The whole place was busy and extremely noisy. No comfortable seats. We'll go elsewhere next time!

Couldn't eat starter as had gone overboard with the soy sauce and was inedible due to saltiness.
Out waiter matt I believe was great.... Far outshone the rest of the dribble that were the staff. Always all the girls were gathered in a huddle chatting when customers watched trying to catch attention.
Burger was served medium rare which I ate because I don't mind but I believe this was probably not the plan.

Chips described to go with burger were actually wedges so not described correctly.

I feel sorry for the poor waiter as he deserves to work in a better place and would be snapped up by a different restaurant. The girl with frizzy light blonde/auburn hair had a face like a slapped behind the whole time and looked like she'd rather be cleaning out horse stables than serving tables.

Utter shambles.... Dreadful service and food. Prices were shocking for the food served. Id say quality of harvester but almost twice the price. We had a £50 voucher for free and sincerely considered walking out after the starters and just leaving the voucher.

AVOID
GO TO WHITCHIRCH OR SOMEWHERE TO EAT IF YOU STAY IN THIS HOTEL

Hugely disappointing. Shocking lunch menu - more like a MacDonalds than a hotel. Really poor furniture for a supposedly quality hotel. Inattentive bar staff. Badly overcooked (burnt) chicken served in an open weave wire basket with a napkin lining and a knife and fork! I challenge anyone to use a knife and fork in these circumstances! The miniature portion of dip turned out to be sufficient as I could only manage to eat half of the chicken! Being told I’d have to go to Starbucks if I wanted anything other than instant coffee really put the finishing touches to a memorable - for all the wrong reasons - lunch.
This was my first - and definitely my last - visit.

We have eaten at the hotel a few times recently (evening meals) and the food and service were great so I booked for my mum's birthday lunch. Unfortunately I didn't check the menu in advance and we were really disappointed that it was 'sports bar food' only.

However, the food was freshly cooked and delicious.

My only complaint relates to the cost of wine on the day. £8.50 for a large glass; I thought this was very over-priced and I would not order wine again at the bar.

Good coffee, terrible food. Caesar salad was made out of supermarket southern fried chicken strips and some processed canned “caesar” sauce. It takes literally 2 minutes to cook caesar sauce from fresh ingredients and all you need is fork and a bowl. I don’t know the reason of such cut corners, but this dish quality doesn’t justify its price at all. Other than that, there is a nice view and option to sit outside when the weather allows, so there is chance you will enjoy this place if no food is ordered.

Great fun! Kongs is always a great place to spend a few hours, great selection of beers and other drinks, lovely food and a nice atmosphere. The table tennis is fab, and there’s such a great selection of arcade machines. The staff are always lovely, and allow cash back behind the bar so you can stock up on pound coins for all the games!

Even though food tasted nice the portion size of my hunter’s chicken is absolutely shocking! For an adult meal I expected more. (I had already eaten a few chips) my brother ended up having the exact same thing as myself and his was a lot bigger than my tiny chicken. One family member had their soup and the rest of us had to wait and additional 15-20 minutes before the rest of us can have food! (Party of 9) other people were sitting down after we arrived and their food was coming out before us which was quite annoying. First time I’ve visited and I’m quite disappointed.

The food was ok, not as good as any other Nando’s that I’ve been to. However there were flies everywhere constantly trying to get into the food or drinks. The second member of staff that we told offered to move us to a table near the door and free desserts, however 2/3 of us had finished our food. Not good enough for a newer Nando’s.
