We visited the waterfall on Saturday the 27th July 24. My husband is Diebetic and his numbers was low so we decided to pop into the pub for a drink. Unfortunatly the pub was closed due to an electrical issue and the young man that was there went and got my husband and I a couple of cokes free of charge to help with his blood sugar levels. Just this kind act says everything about this pub and we will ensure on our next visit we will pop in for some food. Thank you again to the young member of staff for helping someone in need.

Two night stay for B&B. Absolutely wonderful staff, great evening and breakfast food and beer. It is an old building but the room was comfortable enough and they were generous with the tray of drinks and biscuits etc. Being in a dip they don't have 'normal' TV - it is a fairly limited SKY channel selection. Being old the inside is a little dark in places and I had to apologise to the pub dog for falling over him - black dog in dark corner. The best bits were the food and beer (Old Peculiar - my favourite) and the staff. They really could not do more to make the stay a really comfortable one. There is a nice walk down to the rocky beach and waterfall but strong footwear is advised as it is a bit of a pick your way over rocks and slippy bits to get there - well worth it though. (See picture.) A flatter walk takes you along the old railway line either to Scarborough or Ravenscar and there is also a cliff top route - with lots of steps though!

I had to give 1 star because it wouldn’t let me leave 0. Never been in a pub where the staff were so unfriendly and rude. What happened to warm northern hospitality? Wed had a lovely visit to the waterfall and were then forced to leave the pub (after buying a round of drinks) all because we dared to eat a sandwich from our bags. Absolutely disgraceful treatment. Not fit to run a marathon let alone a hospitality establishment. Vile.

Decided to go to Hayburn Wyke for my late birthday lunch. It was absolutely perfect. Beautiful setting. Really traditional Pub that hasn't been overly modernized. Very good menu with something for everyone. I went for Steak Pie and my partner had an amazing burger. Apple pie and ice cream sundae for dessert. Everything was very good, very reasonable prices especially for the quality. Friendly service. It's not a real pub without a fire in the fireplace and a dog. There were 4 dogs before we left ❤️ Will certainly be back.

If I could put 0 starts out of 5 I would , food was absolutely awful , cold , dog hairs all over the tables and chairs , your feet stuck to the ground like they just had a bunch of youths drinking and partying in there all night , don’t get me started about the manager , not only was her attitude upsetting to say the least ,but the hygiene from her was horrendous (wiping her nose with her apron) honestly wish it was the old owners still here as this place was amazing to come to , 10000 percent would not recommend do not come here !!!!!!

Walked to the Inn from Raven Hall hotel via the Cleveland Way, about 4 1/2 miles. Couldn't have been a better spot to have lunch before the 4 1/2 mile walk back to Raven Hall. We were so lucky with the weather as it was red hot. Loads of outside space to eat. Black Sheep Ale hit the spot after a gruelling walk in the heat and the food was delicious. Not the cheapest but a great friendly place to eat, drink and chill out after a walk and before the walk back. Very close to an amazing waterfall and stony beach which seems to get well used and then people come to the Inn for food and drink after seeing the views.

We were staying in the area for a few occasions with family and The Hayburn Wyke was an ideal base for them all. We had been there for food and drink in 2017, during a walk on the Cinder path and down to the waterfall. We booked two rooms for two nights and felt very welcomed when checking in. The rooms initially were as expected, used by walkers, cyclists etc, so not expecting The Ritz! However on closer inspection, our room was quite dirty! The lamp bases had not been dusted, the coasters on the bedside tables still had muck on them from tea / coffee spills, there was a slate that appeared to have had food on it still in the room. Then the bathroom! The shower hose was thick with accumulated brown dirt from soap etc, the mounting for the shower head was brown and the shower head did not work correctly, also brown! The cleaner obviously needs better glasses!!! There had been a towel rail which just had one arm and no rail!!! The shaver point and light did not work. The bathroom really does need a good bit of TLC asap. Our relatives had much of the same in their room. However, we ate there on our second night and the food / drink were really good, as were the breakfasts, good and plentiful with just what you ordered the day before. All of the staff we came across were really friendly and welcoming, we would go again to eat in the future, but would not stay there, we would look for something else in the area.

We have been here before (pre Covid19) and always said we would come back for the food. This weekend we booked in with our campervan and enjoyed a fantastic meal in the restaurant. Thai salmon and stir fried veg and rice for me, prawns and noodles with stir fried veg for my husband. We even followed this with apple pie and custard and raspberries and meringue and cream! Well worth a visit and stay, whether in the hotel rooms or in the motor home car park (not much to look) but the view over the field and the visiting cows made it worth it. That and a water stand available made it worth it.

After a walk down to the waterfall, and back up we were ready for a drink and something to eat. A wide range of ales to decide from and I picked a blonde beer which was lovely. We had a sharing platter...the onion rings ( absolutely home made) crispy and tasty with creamy mushrooms, scampi, mozzarella bites. Home cooked chips and salad and crispy baguette complemented the platter. Friendly staff, and despite it being busy we didn't have long to wait for the food. Highly recommended

Lovely little find, and we booked for 2 nights as we were walking the cinder track from Scarborough to Whitby in preparation and training for London moonwalk next month. We advised that we would be arriving late and assured that wasn't a problem as food would still be available to us. We booked in at 7 my partner, who had come straight from work, wanted to shower and change. We went down for food starters were very nice I then ordered steak (med/rare) when it came it was almost well done, I left his and only ate the veg, on clearing the table we were asked if everything was OK so I explained why I had left it- he apologised and cleared the table - we waited for the dessert menu but it never arrived as the staff were clearing up and setting up for breakfast. The staff were friendly and pleasant. We chatted with possibly the owner about the walk before going to our room. He is a very nice gentleman Rooms very basic...double beds..(who has them now) and lumpy mattress... We had breakfast (9 am only and also very well cooked and i understand that it is all a personal choice but this is only my opinion)and completed our walk sore and aching. We returned to the room to shower ....the shower was pathetic, no power at all. So we packed up and came home as we needed a bath and a good sleep. Understandably, we were still charged for 2 nights, but were not even asked if everything was ok This is on the whole a lovely find, but the accommodation does need to be brought up to date with minimum king/zip and link beds and a modern shower. It's definitely not worth £100 per night . Very busy little pub .

Today (27th May 2019) we visited the Hayburn Wyke with a large group of friends. Included in the group was my son who uses an electric wheelchair. Having visited the pub on a number of occasions, we knew that access had to be by one of the side doors. Upon approaching one of the bar staff I explained that my son wanted to come inside and was waiting outside. The person stated rather brusquely they were busy and that the entrance was blocked by a food delivery. After chasing, the food delivery was removed by a staff member. After stating we needed a ramp the staff member returned after consulting original person at the bar, stating that they didn’t have ramp. I returned to the bar to express my disgust, this was greeted with total indifference and no apology, as to why they could not provide access to a wheelchair user. Meanwhile my son had been left outside in the cold (it was a cool day). As we had already bought our drinks and our friends were arriving by walking along the railway track, we had no choice but to sit outside. This is clearly a matter of discrimination against the disabled both in terms of attitude and physical access. There is no excuse, a ramp should have been made available.I am very tempted to write to the brewery “Black Sheep” expressing my concern that their products are being sold in a pub with a possible discrimination problem.

Visited here with my family (9 of us) on the 1st July 2018 and wow what a place! Beautiful pub in a beautiful place. The staff were very friendly and the pub dog (black lab) was very friendly and enjoyed a far few head pats and ear scatches and maybe a chip or 2 and the food was mouth-wateringly divine! 10/10! And it’s the best place for children too with a large expanse of grass and a football goal and just through the trees (still in view of parents though) is a cute little woodland park for the kids to go crazy on. I have an ADHD/ASD child and I find going to pubs can be a huge challenge but this place was perfect! The first time I’ve ever been able to just let him run round freely and not have to worry and can also enjoy my meal happily and in peace! Haha! I wish there were more pubs that catered to children like this place does! All in all the perfect pub for adults and children with beautiful food. We’ll defiantly be back when we visit again in the summer!!

I always pass Hayburn Wyke so thought I'd give it a go. Rang ahead to reserve a table as it was a busy sunny Saturday evening. We didn't really need to as there was plenty of space when we arrived. The first thing that struck me was just how noisy the place was to say there weren't really that many people in! I think some were using the bar & watching football. We sat anyway & browsed the menu. A very good selection & also a good specials board. I'd assumed we'd go to the bar to order but a lady came over to ask what we would like. Took a long while for the starters to be brought out. Had the fried brie which was well worth the wait and the definitely one of the best I'd had! The young waitress did come to take away plates whilst one of our party was still finishing off which was a little awkward but mains were out before we could even blink. The portion sizes are huge! The double burger looked incredible & even my Husband couldn't finish it. Unfortunately my lamb shank was quite dry. Nice to have the veg cooked to perfection though. Came to nearly £55 for the 3 of us for starters & mains which I did think was quite steep as we'd not had drinks. I don't think we'll be back for a while as plenty of others to try in the area but we do recommend the place if you're nearby.

We were not asked if we had enjoyed our meal and no pleasantries were passed. Upon settling the bill we were not thanked for payment! Manners cost nothing!!!

We stopped here on a circular walking route for lunch, the pub was busy but the staff were unhelpful, full of locals who obviously didn't like visitors. Food was a very mediocre cheese sandwich in a white baguette, chips were good. Not a lot of choice in the area for a lunch stop just don't expect a lot.

We stumbled across this place whilst taking a walk with our 2 boys and dog. Very friendly and dog friendly too. We sat outside whilst the boys had a run around outside then went in when our food was ready. Lovely home cooked food. Inside you really do feel like you are totally out in the sticks. We loved this place and will shall return . They had an open fire place inside and I bet that is beautiful in the winter.

After a walk through the woods and to the small waterfall on the beach we enjoyed a couple of drinks in a traditional inn with lots of character. The staff were extremely friendly and attentive. A delightful setting and pleased we did not miss it.

This was a nice day and most were sat outside admiring the gardens and the surrounding trees. Inside there is plenty of room and looking at the menu, this place is very good for lunch or dinner. The service was good. We shared a tuna sandwich and its just as well as there was plenty for both of us. A very relaxing place.

Plenty of parking. Brilliant walk down to the beach to see the waterfalls and have a picnic. Saw some lovely fossils too. There is a pub there too and it looks like it serves great food. We were geocaching with the national trust and had a really fun time. Wooded to the beach so dogs can be off leashes, well signposted. There are livestock in some fields either side of the walk so leash your dog then.

Have been coming here for many years for their legendary steak pie, usually walking up and back to build up an appetite. We visited on a bank holiday teatime and ordered steak pie again. However, the portion size was considerably smaller than ever before and certainly not worth the £9.95 price tag. There were enough chips and a small amount of veg (but the veg wasn't very warm). The gravy was very thin and again, not to the usual standard. The meat in the pie was very salty. If this had been my first visit, I would probably not go back, but I hope this was just a blip, and that normal portion size and quality is resumed next time.

Pub& staff pleasant Food was plentiful but the carrots & broccolli were still partially frozen when we tried to eat the meal. Explained to barstaff when we were asked if we had enjoyed the meal, who immediately tested them with her fingers.

A hidden quiet cove, stones/pebbles beach and a waterfall. Listen undisturbed to the sound of the waves, in a beautiful scenery...recommended! Make sure not to get lost on your way back to the Inn :-)

Stumbled across the pub on a walk along the "cinder track" - a disused railway line from Scarborough to Whitby (we had walked south from Ravenscar) Called in for a welcome pint of real ale and lunch - a very pleasant stop.

Arrived later in the afternoon and missed the lunch sitting but decided to stay for a drink and have our meal at 5.00 pm instead. The wait for the food was worth while, it was well presented, piping hot and tasty. I had a steak and my wife had a pie, the prices were reasonable and the ale great. The place could do with a bit of TLC but staff were friendly and let us run a tab until we left and walked back down the dis-used railway track back to our holiday cottage.

This is a great place to stop off if you are doing The Cleveland Way, and worth a visit anyway as there are many walks and access to the beach where a lovely waterfall spills out. There is a good choice of meals and vege options - the plates are enormous and have a generous selection and portion of well cooked vegetables which is always a plus in my book. Good quality pub fare. Very friendly staff too.

Came here for a party and decided to stay the night...we had a meal in the bar which was very nice..had deep fried brie and partner had haddock and chips, I had Seabass both very nice. The room was spacious and had a good selection of tea and coffee. Although the cream was off...the things which disappointed me was the toilet which had not been cleaned and had sorry 'poo' splashed all inside it .....not really acceptable also the toilet roll was the cheapest you could get. There was no shelf for putting toiletries ..The breakfast was nice. Would stay again but the cleaning needs to be better .

Stopped here for a cup of tea after walking down the Cinder Track from Ravenscar. Very nice atmosphere and very friendly staff, as you would expect in this area! After a good sized mug of tea to fortify us, we headed off down the path to the beach to see the waterfall. Just in to the cow pasture at the back, we were joined by a very friendly labrador cross who took it upon herself to show us the way, provided we entertained her with sticks that she bought and a ball she had hidden away! The beach is a stone/pebble beach and quietly situated out of the way. A waterfall drops onto the beach at the back from the hillside. A very nice spot - with to without an adopted 4 legged friend! On returning to the pub we discovered our guide belongs to the pub, so you may also be entertained with a canine guide on your visit!Food looks good, though we did not eat here but carried on our way. Would like to return soon, but not sure about the road down from the main road - looks very steep, narrow and has a switchback in it giving a very steep bend on the way back up!

We came here as saw it was on a walk to a bay with a waterfall. The weather was wet so we went in for lunch. Nice ales on tap and also very reasonably priced food. Portions were good and I had the hot roast beef baguette...packed full of chunky beef. 4 1/2yr old had chicken nuggets and chips...nice size for him and well priced. He has a mini meltdown (due to long drive here from home) and staff gave him toys etc which was really nice. To those saying it's grubby and dirty...staff cleaned tables immediately after they were vacated and it's an old style pub...nice and cosy and what pubs should be like in our eyes. Lots of walkers and cyclists were there too.

I don’tknow if this place is any good. After 15 minutes waiting at the bar, only 1 person got served - by the 2 staff. The 1 ‘serving’ then left 6 of us waiting and went outside to wipe down tables. Rude, surly, we up and left.

We had the unfortunate "luck" of spending a night at this place. Got a "suite" under the creaky flooring of the pub with noise-channelling ventilation ducts overhead, a substandard kitchen with no cupboards and wobbly table, a toilet with no ventilation, exposed pipes and disjointed faucet and a door with no handle in sight... All this came with a delayed check-in and service that leaves much to hope for. While the rooms above the pub may make for a better night's sleep, there is little hope that could improve this establishment's culture of hospitality.

We had a nice English breakfast for the start of our walk. Not the best ever perhaps, but enjoyable and open at 7:30. Prices are reasonable, but cash only

I came here during each visit from Canada and we were just getting ready to return again. I am just shocked to find out that they have closed permanently and I can only live with my memories. I wanted to bring my wife there for what I hoped would be another incredible weekend. I can only hope the very best for the family and say thanks for all of the memories and the fantastic bar towels that I still have after 20 years Thank you. Muchas gracias. Hvala, arrigoto, Merci,

What’s really interesting about this cafe is that it’s part of the now closed second funicular tram at the top. Loved the Yorkshire owner of the cafe ☕️. Great bacon rolls before we checked into The Grand next door 🚪 (which we liked ❤️ too)
