Highly recommended! We were apprehensive at first because of husband's many allergies, which is why we never tried indian before. But the staff helped us out big-time and made no problem of it. The food was absolutely delicious! We'll be looking for indian food near our home in the future, after this great first contact.

I've been back roughly twice a week since they were able to resume table service, the food and staff are the same high standard,. Some tables have been removed to allow for the new rules, but apart from the waiters having to wear face masks there hasn't been a dilution of the wonderful atmosphere. As the restaurant is so large I shall be having a family get together next week.

Visited our friends who said let’s have a curry I did not know they used this restaurant. Had previously had bad experience so not impressed, no surprises missed food incorrectly overpriced and overcharged food was like school dinner no taste lamb chewy incorrect food given as they don’t understand what you are asking as they don’t speak English well enough but still they let them take orders be warned . Village curry at its best . Shocking.

Had three take always since last review, the food is still of usual high standards and the staff really making an extra effort under these trying circumstances. I can't wait to go back on 4th July to have a drink in the bar and a family meal to celebrate their return to normality.

Lovely takeaway Ate here during lockdown, with a takeaway.We had tandoori king prawn Massala, king prawn Naga, Bombay aloo and a garlic Naan.We aren’t big eaters but couldn’t Finish it all.But it was all absolutely delightful, couldn’t fault any of it.Very surprised by the review saying it was tasteless, as this was as good a curry as I’ve eaten in the area.Well done to the Hathi.And 5 stars from me.

I don’t understand why this hasn’t got more reviews. This place is stunning, my partner and I thoroughly enjoyed it and can both say it was the best Indian restaurant we’ve ever been too - don’t take that lightly. The food was delicious and perfect, I definitely recommend the onion baji it was the best onion baji I’ve ever had. It’s very good value for how much your getting. The waiters are absolutely wonderful, service was impeccable, I feel awful that I didn’t have any cash to tip them. Please go, you will not be disappointed at all.

Visited new years eve, food was great, service was spot on and the staff are so polite and couldn't do enough for us. This was our first time and would definitely go back. Great work team. Its also great for a pre drink before your meal.

We were a party of 9, including 2 young children. The restaurant were very accomodating with our requirements, especially with the children. The food was all very good, as was the service. Everyone enjoyed their meals and the experience. The restaurant is nicely decorated inside, modern and clean. Worth a visit.

I have never been disappointed with the all you can eat buffet the service and the selection of dishes is always good.I come here almost every Sunday with my wife.We can recommend the Hathi for families and groups.We have also visited on a Sunday and Tuesday evening for the Gourmet Night and have again never been disappointed.I would suggest that you book in advance as it can get very busy.Mr Barry

We had our parents coming down from the North and together with our grown up kids it made for a large table and varied tastes in food. After we ordered my mother discovered the Samosa starters were not to her taste, this was picked up by the waiting staff who immediately offered to replace for something off the menu and even cook something totally custom. The attention was superb without being overbearing.The food was delivered courteously looked superb and tasted amazing.In the middle of the East Sussex countryside it is rare to find an Indian restaurant with such a varied menu, superb surroundings and a great atmosphere. The staff go beyond the call of duty, nothing is too much trouble. We were allowed to eat at our own pace and despite it being late when we finished eating there was no rush to leaveHappy to recommend Hathi restaurant to all comers. You won’t be disappointed.PS their lime pickle is the stuff of legend!!

Absolutely fantastic. Relaxed . Hassle free and lovely food. True value for money. The choice on the menu catered for all of us and it was all delicious. The staff .. as always.. attentive and friendly with nothing a bother. This was the first time we have dined out on Christmas Day and it won't be the last. No cooking or washing up. I’m the first to admit that I have never been a fan of Indian food however this evening’s experience at Hathi has changed my opinion! Husband and visiting adult son persuaded me to give it a go and I reluctantly agreed - and how glad I am that I did as the whole experience was fabulous! From the greeting at the front door, to the beautifully laid tables with snow white crisp linen, to the utterly delightful staff and, of course, the amazing food, it was a real eye-opener for someone who used to avoid Indian restaurants at all costs. The featherlight, oil free poppadums with the great selection of chutneys and dips set the scene, followed by three great starters and mains and all the accompaniments which were so fresh and clean tasting. Service was impeccable, attentive and discreet throughout - you felt like a valued guest and they were fully focused on your needs and enjoyment. I cannot recommend it highly enough and can not wait for our next visit. Thank you Hathi!

Disappointing. The waiters were very friendly but they didn’t know their menu well enough so they couldn’t recommend a good vegetarian dish. The service was quick but we suspect that this was because the sauces were ready made, maybe even bought in as they had a thick glutinous consistency and were overly rich. The manager sat in the corner on his phone rather than paying attention to his customers. All of us had bad indigestion all night and were incredibly thirsty which implies that there was a lot of MSG in the sauces- i.e. bought in. We won’t be going back!

We recently had a takeaway from this usually excellent restaurant. All was very good except anything e.g; poppadums, onion bhaji, chapati, which had cooked in oil, tasted bad. I think the oil was rancid and needs changing - I'd emphasize that this is not usually the case with these dishes which are always delicious and of a high standard. Otherwise our food was lovely so a shame that this issue let it down on this occasion.

I was working in the area and decided to have a look on Trip Advisor for local Indians, i found this little gem and thought i will give it a go! What can i say but the food was outstanding!!! One of the tastiest indians iv ever tried!!! I will see you this week guys keep up the good work

This is our favourite local Indian restaurant! Food is always amazing wether it’s eating in or takeaway and staff are always very nice! Lots of vegetarian/vegan dishes.

I visited on a Sunday evening, when there is a set price across the menu. Food is amazing, service is polite and unhurried - I had a really pleasant evening.

Went last night, great experience. Delicious, attractive food served by very attentive and helpful staff who made sure we knew which dish was which and gave us information about each one. The specialities were excellent, particularly the xacuti and murgi vojon. The only thing I wouldn't order again is the onion bhajee - it wasn't bad at all, just not on the same level as the other food. Very welcoming to the kids, too. Is definitely worth the trip out there and the parking makes it easy. Will be going back.

This restaurant is without a doubt one of our favourite places to eat. We have tried numerous Indian restaurants, where the food looks different but all tastes the same. The Hathi food is delicious, beautifully presented, and is always served with a smile. It has a lovely ‘bar’ area, which is a great meeting place or somewhere enjoyable to relax after a meal. Amongst other things, I highly recommend the Peshwari Nan at this restaurant, it is the best I have sampled anywhere! Yesterday we enjoyed the ‘buffet’ lunch, which was an absolute feast and great value. A massive thank you to the staff at this restaurant, especially Alam and Salahuddin, who always make us extremely welcome.

Our first visit to Hathi, stopped purely as we saw it on route home from Eastbourne so had not booked. Two people. Poppadoms, two main courses, two side dishes and two alcoholic drinks.

Last night my colleague and I had one of the most memorable and enjoyable meals at Hathi. After researching your fine restaurant across the internet and after reading your glowing reviews, we were delighted with our meals which tasted so fresh, so delicious and made with care. We were grateful for the extra chillies you kindly provided and understand that not all customers can tolerate the kind of heat which we love. The restaurant is very welcoming, tastefully decorated and staffed by smiling friendly & attentive waiters which only adds to the visit. As very keen curry lovers, we left very impressed and hugely satisfied. Thank you so much. It was a pleasure to meet Alum and all his staff last night. Very impressed that Alum is present within the evening service. We wish you all the very best, your business module is clearly working and we will not hesitate to visit again when we are next in East Sussex and to recommend any of our friends and colleagues to visit Hathi. We travel much and always seek out a good Indian restaurant, I have many curry followers who, like us, adore curry. As a senior Anglo Asian Burmese man I would like to think that I know my curries well and the whole experience and the food at Hathi last night was most impressive. Please thank all your team. It's a real treat to dine at Hathi. There is a large car park and the restaurant itself is spacious with tasteful decor. Whilst we perused the menu, we enjoyed the large poppadoms and chutney selection, served in a lazy Susan tray. The chutney portions were generous and much to my delight, there was plenty of cucumber in the onion salad!

I try not to write a review every time I visit otherwise it might seem like I am a paid reviewer! So, it has been a year or so, I guess, since my last statement of delight. I visited during the week with my faithful dining companion (my Kindle) and I felt compelled to write to say that everything - service, food and setting - remained at the top level I have come to expect. I thoroughly recommend this place to any Indian restaurant lovers but it is better to have a real companion to share the excellent food and experience.

Went to Hathi for the first time (having driven past many times) last night, as my Father's Day / joint Wife's birthday treat. Wow what an experience. Faultless from start to finish . Fantastic food appropriately priced, attentive service from very friendly helpful staff, great decor throughout , just a brilliant dining experience. Highly recommended.

High recommend, one of the best curries we agree as a table wonderful selection and all fresh. Staff very helpful and friendly, even remembering certain family members from previous visits. Lovely decor and vibe and will be back with friends.

Staying in the area and fancied a take away curry, selected Hathi Indian because of the reviews and was not disappointed. Reasonably priced and tasted delicious!

We decided to try Hathi for the first time. A few years before we had been to the previous restaurant on the site and hadn't had a very good meal. This was different. The service was relaxed and cheerful and we didn't feel rushed as in many Indian restaurants trying to free your table as soon as possible. The starters and mains were very good and we even had ice cream desserts. It was an all round very good experience, so we'll go again.

Very good, polite service and very good recommendations regarding what to have from the menu that you hadn’t tried before. Food was quickly served, but not rushed, restaurant was busy, but we did not feel neglected in any way.

Excellent greeting on arrival and quickly shown a seat. Service throughout was prompt and extremely friendly. The main "Hathi Special" is a chicken breast stuffed with mince and spinach; a dish I have never experienced before. It was simply lovely and all sundries were immaculate.

Haven't been here for ages and was really glad that we booked as the restaurant and bar got very busy very quickly. Food was excellent and there was a great buzz. Waiters were very good, only small complaint was that they took ages to give us our bill and to take payment, but we didn't let that spoil a great evening.

We chanced on this restaurant by chance, it seems that you have to go inland from the coast to get decent Indian food. The food was excellent, the staff exceptionally friendly and helpful, it is very popular so booking is essential. Relying on previous reviews we ordered some of the recommended dishes and were rewarded by some of the best Indian food we have eaten for a long time.

We try different dishes here every time we go and are always impressed. Attentive staff who really listen to what you want. Vegetable, prawn and king prawn dishes are especially nice. The niramish side dish is wonderful.

We had an amazing meal at Hathi , the food is delicious and the staff are great . I organised ahead of the event with Mr Alan and Tanvir and they so helpful and attentive !

With easy parking, friendly service and great food this by far is the best Indian restaurant.

More expensive than other Indian restaurants locally, but worth the extra because the quality of the food is excellent. The service is very friendly too, With a little more investment into the premises, they could move a step or two upmarket and really stand out. Choose the wrong place to sit though and you’ll encounter a draft every time the door opens. The boss supervising in a padded jacket and a woolly hat rather gives the game away!

Found this place by accident. A friend and I wanted dinner before a gig at Trading Boundaries in Uckfield. My friend is vegan and we both had samosa's followed by Naga dishes. The starters had an amazing dressing on the plate, mango and coriander/chilli/tamarind. The main dishes were tasty and spicy. The naan was light and fluffy. Would definitely visit again.

Been using this pace for a few takeaways now and have to say its been outstanding, different dishes, freshly made as spicy as you like, staff are so pleasant, perfect Friday night. Not eaten in but looks really smart so will do soon, nothing beats a Tandoori Mixed grill when eaten in although the take away one I had last Friday was pretty damned perfect.

Whilst we were waiting for the final people in our group we were offered a drink in the bar area. We were seated when all our group had arrived and then given the menu and offered poppadoms. It was a while before anyone turned up and took our order. The staff were lovely and friendly but it took an hour and a half from when we sat down until our food arrived. We only had mains course but it was 3 hours from arrival to us leaving. The food was pretty good but we left feeling a little frustrated. It surely would have helped if we had been given menus whilst waiting in the bar?

Not impressed, the place lacked atmosphere, it was very quiet and being a Friday night thought strange. The floor was tacky and the food wasn't much better. We all agreed the meat lacked flavour although sauces were ok. We won't rush back.

We are never disappointed by the food here, the friendly staff attentiveness is very good and it seems that nothing is a bother to them. Looking around it is clear all the customers are ring taken care if in the same way. All ages are welcome and there's plenty of space.

We came here as a family on a Saturday evening at 8pm. On arrival we were greeted very well and shown to our table. Absolutely smooth operation! We got our drinks quickly and they took our food order prompt too. (Popadoms to keep us going till it came out!) Now, the food......absolutely delicious! I would highly recommend the Naga If you like spice and the tikka chilli naan......super delish! My daughter (she’s 9) loved it and can’t wait to go back. The staff were super friendly. Toilets are spotless and parking was easy. If I could give this 6 stars I would! Huge recommendation from me.

Travelled 35 minutes to this lovely Indian restaurant after reading the great reviews and looking at the website as it had a great menu. We were not disappointed, lovely restaurant with a nice bar separate to the restaurant as you come in. Had a lovely feel and all the staff were very friendly and helpful. With our poppadoms you get a lovely lot of different chutneys and sauces which were all great. We had a chicken dansak and I went for one of the sweet curries with coconut, honey and almond called modu and both were delicious. Best onion bhajees and peshwari nann I’ve had, lovely and sweet. The menu was great as had slightly more choice of different curries than other Indian restaurants. They also have a much better choice of desserts, banoffi pie, movenpick ice creams and strawberry cheesecake, so had a great evening.

I've been looking for a new favourite Indian for a little while now, and I think I've finally found it. The extremely full car park was a promising sign, and the staff were extremely welcoming. Despite being a Thursday, the restaurant had a good number of people and a really nice bustle to it.

Arrived at 1830 without a booking but we're quickly shown a table, others were not so lucky.

The food is arguably one of the best I’ve had in London our outside. Don’t hesitate. The staff is friendly, there is outdoor parking and portions are generous and at a reasonable price!

We ordered take out from here and it was extremely good - My King Prawn Masala was excellent. It was ready exactly when it was expected and great customer service.

First time to use this restaurant and only had take out but will definitely sit in next time..and there will be a next time as what we had tonight was delicious! Friendly service, good value, fab food and large portions.

Visited with my daughter as we pass it every week and the reviews are good. We were very disappointed. The quality of food compared to the reviews made me wonder if we were in the right place.

Walked in the restaurant and the smell of cooking was lovely. We were shown to our table and asked if we would like popodoms and chutneys to start with we said yes.They took are drinks orders wihich was water and coke. The water was cold and did come with ice but the coke was flat and warm with no ice on one of the hottest day of the year. the popodoms were lovely which was a good start,but it kind of went down hill with the rest of the meal. We had to wait for the menu to be handed to us. We made our choices and the curries arrived in small bowls which you could have tipped upside down onto the plate and stayed the shape of the bowl because the curry was so gloopy, it was really overly sweet and the naan bread must have had brown sugar on it as you took a bite it crunched. As we sat waiting for the bill, which we had to ask for, we noticed dirt and dust on the daydo rail and a spider web going from the chair to the wall. The service was good but the food not so good. Would not go back. Score 3/5

We came here several years ago as regulars and decided to revisit as I believe it has since changed hands . Excellent meal - we chose our usual dishes in order to compare them - butter chicken and chicken tikka dopiaza and very good onion bhajis. Service is polite and efficient. A very nice evening - we will be back soon

Firstly I’ve often wondered why it was called Hathi as I drove past. But on my first visit yesterday the mystery unravelled as I entered and saw all the elephants! Colonel Hathi the elephant in the Jungle Book

No BBQ could beat this! Excellent quality meat. The okra is the best I have ever had. I thoroughly recommend this restaurant.

Another fantastic meal at this lovely Indian. As always, food superb and sevice always the best. I love this restuarant.

The drive out here from Eastbourne makes it so worth it!

We were camping nearby and took the lazy option. After reviewing the local options we chose Hathi, we were not disappointed. Ordering was easy and although it was very busy on a Saturday night, as you would expect, our order was ready on time and neatly packed. When we got to eat it we were not disappointed as the food was delicious, if this was local I would eat here regularly. Top class.

I do like a curry but usually end up having a vegetable balti as most restaurants do not have much on offer for vegetarians or vegans. Not so here! I had lots of choice and settled for a vegetable Ashari with a Channa Masala. Both were absolutely delicious, with layers of spicing and just the right amount of heat.

My last review was in June 2017 although I have been regularly since then. I have been meaning to write again but it really is the same old story - great service, great menu, great food.

Chef recommendations were amazing, our first visit but not for our friends who keep going back and now so will we.

We come here many times as it really is the best Indian restaurant we have ever been to. The dhansak is absolutely delicious, as is the okra. The staff are very friendly and entertaining. We highly recommend this restaurant.

This is one of my favourite Indian restaurants ever. The food is so rich, but a real treat. Love trying new dishes here, but their vegetable biryani is my favourite. The service is always outstanding. Never had a bad meal here.

We went here last night as we had been looking for a nice Indian restaurant to go to and this had good reviews. Well we are so glad we went. The moment we arrived we were made to feel so welcome by the friendly staff.

One of my families favourite take outs! Good portion sizes, lovely staff, great atmosphere and food always good quality and hot upon collection. Quick and reliable! Only complaint would be that it's potentially a bit over priced!

We took advantage of Sunday gourmet night and really enjoyed it. I personally suggest you keep clear of the rather ordinary standard dishes and instead go for the specials which are very different and very tasty. The niramish is delicious.

Superb onion bhaji and ice cream. Did not like the recommended chettinad at all but it was exchanged for the xacuti which was much nicer. Other dishes ordered were nice. Was annoyed to be charged £3 for a large tray of chutney when I had only ordered 1 popadum and was surprised that our remaing food for takeaway was boxed up at the table not in the kitchen. Would order different dishes next time and no popadums.

We're always popping up for dinner with friends. Tasty food and consistently good service. I particularly like the spicy roast lamb dish.

Friendly staff,great food and good service.The food was delicious, I would recommend the Persian lamb biryani, it was delicious. My husband had the Nilgiri lamb tikka and throughly enjoyed it. We will certainly be returning. We are yet to try the Sunday buffet lunch,which we look forward to.

Visted for Sunday buffet for the third time in a couple of months. Still great service and excellent selection of meat and veggie curries. It would be good if Alam the owner could find a way to stop the ice cream melting and perhaps put the fruit salad in a bowl with cover. This didn't detract from a very pleasant and good value lunch.

At first glance, one appears to be entering a luxury hotel! There is an elegant bar and spacious restaurant. The staff are accommodating, friendly and attentive. The food freshly-made and generous portions. The lavish decor is luckily not matched by the prices, which were around £8.25 for the main courses, some dishes more, some less.

When you receive what you ordered, the food from Hathi is great - but for the third time, in six take-aways, they have messed up the order. I don't like curried lamb, so when I get home to find Lamb Falusa instead of Chicken Tikka Falusa, my meal is ruined. They repeated my £64 takeaway order when I ordered over the phone, and repeated it again when I picked it up, but still got it wrong in the Kitchen. On the other two occasions, a dish was completely missing. Just not acceptable I'm afraid. The only reason I have given three stars rather than one is that the food quality is super. Just wish they were more accurate in what they supply.

My next door neighbour told me that Tarana in Turners Hill is better .... so Carol and I visited last Sunday for their Sunday Buffet.... similar set up and good atmosphere...... popadoms and chutney were very "out of a jar" The restaurant is larger than the Hathi and the presentation of the food I think with the use of large heated dishes is possibly better they have a detailed description of each dish so you can read up on it before plating it ..... the staff at Hathi are very attentive and give everyone a good description of all the dishes when they approach the Bain Marie service area.

Our third visit and each time it just gets better.

So many Indian restaurants I have visited over the years start out well and after a while (possibly because of a change of chef) the quality of the food falls way. Not so with Hathi. It has been quite a few months since my last review (October 2016) during which I have visited several times and the quality of food and service remains high.

What a lovely setting and staff to match. Service with a smile. Food was delicious. We had the lamb Korma and a Lamb Mobi. a cauliflower and potato side with the usual Naan and popadom starter (the pickles and dips had a selection of 7 to suit all palettes xx

Friendly, helpful staff. Good food. The food is consistently good as is the ambience. Car parking is a little difficult at peak times but don't let that put you off, it's worth it

Title says it all. We went because it was five star. But whilst service and food was good it didn't blow me away.

This premises has been a popular Indian restaurant for many years but Hathi is by far the best it has ever been! From the moment you arrive service is exceptional - friendly without being over bearing. We have been here many times and always have a warm welcome from the staff. The menu is quite traditional with some great house specialities most importantly it's all freshly prepared with what seem to be fresh ingredients ( New potatoes in the sag aloo a first of any Indian I have ever visited). Overall the food is cooked to perfection, absolutely lovely. Very reasonably priced, This restaurant is a true gem.

Staff was nice, appetizer with pappadums with all the special condiments were good, but as I like really hot and spicy food and chose the hottest version, and my partner the medium, both dishes were not spicy at all, and flavors were muddled. We used the spicy condiment to perk up my vegetarian hot dish and the medium shrimp dish. A small addition of salt would have also helped bring out the flavors.

I have been coming to this restaurant in its various guises for many years, but this one is possibly the best!

Visited Hathi restaurant recently and had a chicken dish. It was truly great. Loved it and definitely go again.
