A wonderful, traditional country pub, great food, open fire, friendly staff, surrounded by beautiful English countryside. What more can you ask for?

We recently had Sunday dinner here with old friends, and can honestly say, it was delicious, we had the beef and chicken and can highly recommend the food. We will return.

This is a lovely country pub, serving tasty food with good portion sizes. Very welcoming, Russ and Liz are great hosts, certainly worth a visit.

Really pretty and friendly pub. I've stopped twice now for a pint of Harvey's and had it in the garden. Really enjoyed chatting with the lovely owners and looking forward to coming back for a meal soon. The garden is very peaceful and a real sun trap. Lovely atmosphere, so glad it's been brought back to life!

Arriving at the pub just after last orders for food, I was pleasantly surprised by how accommodating the staff were despite the place being packed with various other groups/parties. They suggested the gnocchi puttanesca with king prawns, and I must say, it was so delicious that I now have to recommend it to everyone!

This pub was local to where we were staying on holiday & was recommended to us. What a delightful & welcoming place with excellent food. The Landlord & Landlady were very helpful with my Husband who is in a wheelchair. We enjoyed it so much that we went back for Sunday lunch!

The beer offerings at the village pub were remarkably diverse, complemented by a staff that was consistently friendly and eager to help. Additionally, the quality of the food was outstanding.

Meeting a relative from Eastbourne for lunch. Met by smiley friendly staff who quickly seated us and took drinks order and then food order. Food good and hot - liver and bacon and two pies of the day all served promptly. Nice pub with fantastic old metal signs as decoration...Craven A, Daddies Sauce but he best ones are in the gents....worth a visit even if you do not need to go Welcoming couple running the pub

The biggest, tastiest, crunchy onion rings ever! Visited here for the first time with friends. We had the warmest, genuine welcome by the landlord and his team which was the start to a brilliant evening. The food is superb, service very quick, all our meals arrived piping hot and nicely presented very reasonable prices too. The landlord is naturally funny and had us laughing all night, he even did a couple of card tricks which were very impressive. I'm looking forward to going back for one of their quiz nights and eating there again. At the end of the night (we were last out) we three ladies were escorted by the landlord and his HUGE 😁 torch to ensure we didn't fall down any potholes en route to the car park. Absolutely recommend going here, although I hope that doesn't make it so popular that I can't get a table next time! I wish this pub was my local... As Arnie says "I'll be back". 😁

We were about to travel to one of two pubs, one 12 miles away, before deciding to check The White Horse, which is 150 yards from where we are staying. I was cautious because menu wasn't extensive. I was sold when I saw a special of chorizo and king prawn linguini, with a garlic and fennel white wine sauce. This is not a dish you would expect from driving by, but reflects the near absolute commitment to fresh and locally sourced ingredients. I say near absolute- tbh king prawns aren't raised locally and on the menu is battered spam skewers (with piccalilli mind you). But the meat is local, from farmers they personally know. The menu isn't huge as it is cooked freshly by the chef patron, not bought in and microwaved. The soup will always be vegan and gluten free, but I had cauliflower pakora with tamarind sauce, one of my 5 a day and V&GF and delicious. Our profoundly disabled 28 yr old daughter was warmly welcomed and enjoyed the (Moroccan, actually) potato and tomato curry with coconut rice (Vegan &GF). It was fully of flavour and did justice to the humble potato. Me, I had lambs liver and bacon with mash and ratatouille - a revelation, as the ratatouille lifted the dish to being hearty to also being light and fresh. It's a family recipe from the 60's and should be how liver and bacon is served in my opinion. I had a pint of a sussex Longman brewery American Pale Ale - in beautiful condition, good long lasting creamy head, well hopped with caramel notes - a lovelybpint, although at 4.7% not a session ale. This is a really lovely pub, run by locals, who love food and want people to be welcome. We were offered a ramp for our daughter's wheelchair but could manage the front step, but they have considered access and I would recommend to wheelchair users (although can't vouch for the toilets. We will probably eat there tomorrow night too, before our return to Sheffield on Friday.

We visited today for a family lunch & the staff were lovely. The vegan curry was delicious & there was also a vegan burger which sounded very good. There was vegan soup & and a vegan sandwich option. No vegan dessert, but otherwise great.

We arrived after the kitchen had formally closed but the lovely owner reopened the kitchen for us. Friendly staff, great food, and a wonderful atmosphere with many happy locals.

Enjoyed an excellent lunch here with friends. Our group of fourteen was made very welcome by Liz and Russell who have not only extensively renovated the building but created a warm and relaxing atmosphere. The young bar staff were friendly and helpful and the food was home cooked and delicious . Will definitely be returning.

Popped in for short while, first to have a lovely Cappuccino as was cold outside. Staff were friendly and chatty. A lovely old English pub in a village. If I go back to this area I'd definitely go to this pub. Recommended. Fabulous roaring fires.

What a find! We went for a very long, wet and muddy dog walk and after an hour and a half were lucky to find the White Horse Inn on Bodle Street Green. We had a double warm welcome from Russell the owner and the beautiful roaring fires. We ordered our drinks and then Russell told to sit a relax. We ordered our food, which was delicious and we chilled. We were too tired to walk back to our holiday home, so Russell gave us the numbers of some cabs, unfortunately none of them were free til much later. When Russell asked how we were getting on, we told him we’d be walking back as the cabs were busy. Russell then offered to drive us home! So kind. Going above and beyond. Thank you Russell and team, you made us feel very welcome.

We've visited a couple of times recently after an absence of a few years. The pub has been transformed, the staff are extremely welcoming and the food is excellent. Just the sort of place we'd love to have as our local

A very friendly pub and we had a most enjoyable lunch. Dog friendly with even a biscuit offered to our dog. We had main courses - cottage pie served with a wonderful selection of freshly cooked vegetables and a steak and ale pie also with veggies and mashed potato. Not a huge portion of pie for the price but nevertheless very tasty. We both chose sticky toffee pudding with ice cream for dessert which was served in an attractive way with fruit garnish. We both had Harveys to drink which was delicious. All in all a good experience. Meal came to £60 so not exactly cheap. A little bit of cleaning and work needed in the toilets and I spied some dust on the furniture! But the warmth of the owners was second to none as was the lovely roaring log fires. We will definitely return.

Without doubt the friendliest pub I’ve ever been in. Can’t recommend it enough, and a great place to get caught in a thunderstorm!

Yet another fabulous meal at the White Horse… Aubergine Tagine, fish & chips and sausage and mash as mains, all super tasty and presented with such care… wonderful. We also had starters and desserts, all of which were excellent… pate, soup and falafel, apple pie, sticky toffee pudding and an elderflower and lemon slice - we can absolutely recommend all of these dishes. Staff were super friendly, attentive without being in the least bit pushy, and there were plenty of other customers in there too but not overcrowded, so they are definitely getting it right. Wouldn’t hesitate to go back, only wish we lived closer!! Thank you for a lovely lunch/afternoon 😊

Friendly pub situated in a quiet village with good beer on tap too. Car park is just over the road next to the village hall.

A first visit despite passing it regularly. Booked a works meal in for 12 of us and Liz was great sending over the menus which had a great variety with something for everyone. It was a busy Friday night, nothing was to much trouble and the staff were lovely and welcoming with smiles and a sense of humour. It’s a very dog friendly pub. Shall be back again definitely.

Every time we have had a family dinner at the White Horse since the New Owners took over the visits were memorable because of the welcome from the owners and staff and the quality of the food served. If you are in the area it really is worth a visit. Good choice of Beers, including local ales and the wines are good too. Back next week for music on Tuesday evening.

We visited the White Horse Inn over the weekend and were warmly greeted at the door by the landlord, which set the tone for an excellent visit. The current landlord and landlady too over the pub last Autumn and have evidently invested considerable time and effort in presenting a country pub where customers can enjoy a relaxed atmosphere, well priced drinks and excellent food. Between our party, we sampled a number of dishes (the homemade steak, ale and mushroom pie; the burger; the sticky toffee pudding and the chocolate fudge cake). All were excellent. We wished that we were in the area for longer, as it also sounds like the regular acoustic music nights here would be great fun. We would very happily recommend the White Horse to anyone in the area!

Service was a bit slow but good food and friendly atmosphere at the bike night on Wednesday. Can't wait for the next one 👍👍

Nice country village pub, great food, have eaten there many times over the years. This night was a bikers night, so nice to be welcomed as not all pubs like bikes! We are just ordinary people though who prefer to travel on 2 wheels.

Had a very lovely welcome, seated at a fabulous table, Coronation ale was divine. Some fabulous choices on the specials board as well as the main menue. Wonderful Sussex smokie, delicious pea brocolli and stillton soup, and light-as-feather deep fried calamari rings. Highly recommend a visit!

A wonderful experience. The White Horse has recently changed hands again and is now run by Lizzy and Russ. Lizzy is the chef and her food is nothing short of OUTSTANDING!!! I have now tried four different dishes and all of them have been prepared, presented and served to perfection. I would be hard pressed to find a good dedicated restaurant to serve food this good. The pub has had a considerable refurbishment setting a lovely traditional atmosphere. Booking is recommended as capacity is limited.

Food would be wonderful if they did not put salt all over it. We are quite able to put some on if that is what is wanted. Salt is very bad for people with heart or blood pressure problems. Why spoil a chefs good work by making it tasty salty

Went here on a Saturday lunchtime and we had a lovely meal. There was a good menu ....between us we had the steak and Stilton pie , a veggie bean casserole and the burger. Everyone agreed that our meals were good . My only gripe is I would have preferred my pie served in a dish with veggies on side ( I have a "thing" about gravy on my vegetables !! ).

Lovely friendly staff at the pub. Fire was lit and the place felt cosy and welcoming. We enjoyed a couple of drinks and a gluten free bruschetta starter which was delicious! They have gluten free options and are approachable to asking about other allergies and catering for them. Amazing history to the pub and they have worked hard to refurb and get this place up and running into a proper village pub again! We will go back with family!

Absolutely wonderful, the service was expectionally attentive and friendly. The whole atmosphere was relaxed and welcoming. Food was delicious, as a veggie I was delighted to be offered alternatives to the menu ( on my visit) and the food was scrummpy. I even had a pudding which I rare for me! I can remember going out for a more enjoyable, relaxing and fabulous meal. Thank you all.

This place has been taken over by a fabulous couple and they have done wonders with the pub. It is now cosy, with AMAZING drink choice, hearty food and it is WARM and cosy. Great to be able to get really decent beer so locally (beavertown being a favourite of ours) we have a great Friday night in there a week or so ago and we can’t wait to come back!

I visited the White Horse Inn last night with my wife and two friends. From the very moment the pub came into view it was almost impossible not to be impressed; with the large front windows it was plain to see that the atmosphere inside was a happy one with lots of character, beer aplenty and laughing and chatting throughout. And, one step inside and you’re one of the team. With drinks ordered and table reserved we chatted easily to various people and joined in with the banter. The two wood burners ticked over in the background, cracking and spitting every once in a while, adding to the character of the place and keeping everyone nice and toasty. Being Friday and all that, we all ended up ordering the fish and chips; however, there were many other tasty beauties on the menu that I look forward to sinking my teeth into another time. When our food arrived we tucked in .. Oh yes! Now, there's ‘fish and chips’ and there's ‘fish and chips’ and this, this is definitely the latter. Their home made tartare sauce, locally sourced fish and their attention to detail made the food a knockout. And when combined with the happy people, the ample character and the two wood burners it made for a fabulous evening. The White Horse Inn in Bodle Street Green get’s it right on all levels. It’s a big YES from me.

Enjoyed a hearty bowl of the most delicious Pheasant soup with baked olive oil garlic salt Croutons and pepper cream tonight at the beautifully remodeled White Horse. Hosts Liz and Russ are super accomodating. Woodburning fires, Bones oil craft lagers, gorgeous round tables for food and drink gatherings. The place is full of heart and warmth, the new owners have done a fantastic job. Thanks Liz and Russ !!!

Beautiful pub amazing views with unique roof with white horse on top which had to be painted over during ww2 as the German bombers could of use it as a land mark

I was not quite sure what to expect of the White Horse. With Covid restrictions in place the pub was empty and I wondered if that would affect our first impression.How wrong was I! Service was excellent, food was homemade (and Landlady was very flexible with cooking me a vegetarian meal not on menu), drink choice was good and it was all very reasonably priced.All in all this is a great pub, the Landlady clearly works hard to make the pub welcoming and we look forward to coming back.

Just the way a pub should be; great food, superb banter and made to feel completely welcome. Pub's just don't get any better. It's five stars from me. 😀

Visited here after a long walk and it was lovely! They had a very good selection of drinks, free darts and pool. The landlady was very nice too and gave great service. Would definitely recommend!

Genuine thai food. Great choice with typical thai dishes and some less common ones like the duck on crispy noodles. Prices were reasonable and the portion sizes good. Worth the trip out in the sticks!

Nice to find a village pub that is still up and running. It was like stepping back in time, the staff and customers where very friendly. Only stopped for coffee but menu looks great and reasonable. Great find away from larger towns will return next time I am in the area.
