Hatherley Pub & Flame Grill in Cheltenham

A lovely visit. I was pleased to see the Christmas food menu was available already. The lovely person who served me described having had the chance to taste the menu, earlier in the month, and she was very enthusiastic. I had the stuffing crowns and thoroughly enjoyed them. I accessed WiFi and, by sharing my email address, was offered a 2-4-1 voucher for Birra Moretti. I'm really impressed, thank you. Perhaps an AF option could have been offered too, but I was on foot and very happy to accept my free pint! I visited alone, to read and do some work. It's so nice to feel safe and welcomed, as a single woman. The staff are very kind and warm. The atmosphere was lovely - just the right balance of buzzy but not rushed or chaotic.

My family went for the Sunday roast. We booked well in advance. Arrived at 1pm. We finally received our meal at 2:20... this wait was the most disappointing thing about the meal. The food itself was pretty good, but the gravy was extremely salty 🧂. The pub itself is beautiful and has a lovely garden.

I consider myself so lucky to live in walking distance to The Hatherley. To have a friendly, community pub on the doorstep with fantastic staff , Chad and Megan are particularly welcoming and always so friendly and chatty. It’s still reasonably priced for drinks and food. I know me and my friends will continue to use this pub for a long time coming.

I visit The Hatherley quite a lot on my way home from work just to wind down after a busy kitchen shift. I came in today about 19:00 to meet some friends - we had a few drinks and a great chat. Service behind the bar was fantastic - very welcoming from 2 bar staff Ethan and Heidi and not a long weight at all. I think Heidi was on her own whilst Ethan had a break but still really prompt service with a smile from Heidi And other staff dressing Christmas trees was a sobering sight but lovely too Had a great evening thank you all

Megan and Elliott… are the number 1 Sunday team. Many thanks to them both. Every Sunday Eve always amazing.

Lovely place and people but bar service is getting slower which detracts from the experience. Update. Getting worse. 1 member of staff on the bar at 5pm on a Friday is ridiculous

Only one staff member working the bar on a Friday evening other staff underage so unable to assist many people gave up and left I'm hearing they were told to cut staff hours by 100 per week not the best business decision...

Lots of great food and nice portion size, friendly staff and tasteful decor. It's my local pub and I come often for a glass of wine.

Pub was refurbished last year. Good atmosphere, value for money, friendly service. Fairly routine pub food but well presented, served in a short time and tasted good.

We went to The Hatherley for a buffet family get together to celebrate the passing of my Mother's life, which we arranged in advance with Megan. We were so well looked after by Megan and the team on the day and the buffet was excellent. There was plenty of food, very fresh and well presented, more than enough for everyone. Would definitely recommend and use the Hatherley Inn again.

Great place! Sunday lunch mid afternoon. Beef was lovely and tender and plenty of vegetables.

Party of 13 including children. We pre ordered and our server Elliot was very attentive wanting to make sure our order was still correct. He was great humouring my son who was being a bit fussy and wanting attention regarding his food. Service was excellent. Food was lovely. Would definitely recommend.

It's my local, only 10 minutes walk away. It has a lovely quiet beer garden, The landlady runs the place extremely well & won't tolerate any kind of trouble & doesn't hesitate to ban anyone who tries it on. Food is always excellent & served hot or nice and fresh. Excellent, well kept Ale's, & staff are always friendly & helpful. Very dog friendly. There are many people running pubs that are reporting that all the energy price increases, along with people reigning in spending & not going to pubs, that they are now in a worse position than in the Pandemic & fear bankruptcy. My last visit, with Wife, Daughter & little Grandaughter, at Sunday lunchtime, found the Hatherley much quieter than usual for this, normally busy period. Support your favourite local, even if it's just a pint a week you can afford. Would hate to lose the Hatherley. 🖖🌈 Edit. Hatherley has been refurbished & new people in charge. Food is now god awful & order's frequently mixed up or go wrong with missing items. Still good for a pint but we don't eat there anymore. You need to raise your game.

Came for lunch to catch up with a friend, service was speedy, staff and management were lovely and professional ! Food was absolutely brilliant - fully recommend the snitzel as that sauce is delicious! Good selection of spirits, will be returning

We took a friend here for a trip down memory lane as she used to live right next by it! It was a lovely, relaxing place to meet up and the staff were warm and friendly. Unfortunately the food was rather on the disappointing side. My lasagne did arrive piping hot, but was rather salty and on the thin side. The “big salad” accompanying it was completely underwhelming, consisting mainly of tired looking salad leaves and not very appetising at all. My husband’s fish and chips were pretty dreadful, being small, dry and over cooked. Our friends’s scampi portion was rather meagre, as were the bits of scampi themselves - she said they were more like prawns ! So unfortunately the food rather put a damper on things. On the plus side, the staff were lovely.

Meat on the roast dinner was very dry, frozen roast potatoes. Churros on the dessert menu were inedible would avoid them. Good service and nice atmosphere just disappointing food

We booked an afternoon tea for 24/08/24 and arrived to a nicely decorated table. The staff were extremely helpful and could not do enough for us. The sandwiches and cakes were a lovely mix washed down by Prosecco and a nice coffee to finish. Many thanks to Megan and team - everyone should enjoy an Afternoon Tea at the Hatherley!

On our recent visit the staff were very friendly and helpful, in particular to our wheelchair user and praised us for our well behaved dog. The food was very good although we thought the veg (peas) portion was rather small. There was a vast range of drinks including low alcohol offering. We will return again.

We took some friends for lunch a few days ago and sorry to say the experience was not brilliant. We seemed to have to wait a long time for main and the dessert course was even longer, also the ice creams had started to melt. Our coffees came before the dessert and were lukewarm too. While one person was well catered for with gluten free and the others had good meals, mine was awful! The lasagne was over cooked, the rocket limp and some was slimy, the focaccia was inedible and like a brick! My husband told a member of staff and the bread was replaced. My dessert was served in a bowl with ingrained hot food on the edges, not too pleasant. Needless to say our friends were not too impressed and we felt embarrassed at our choice of venue. I think the food had been left possibly too long before being brought to the table. Such a shame as the restaurant is a pleasant place to sit and eat.

Food was good as usual and for the most part the staff were welcoming and friendly. There is one member of staff in particular who has let down our experience on more than one occasion from just being rather rude, unable to smile and often also rude to other staff members where customers can hear. Quite a short lady with glasses, I believe her name is Megan. I did mention this to another staff member who apologised and offered us some promotion on our meal. 09/08/2024

We come annually as an extended family with 25-30 people and book out the raised platform area. Great service where they serve everyone by name (pre-ordered meals), and very friendly and helpful staff. We were assisted by Elliot, Chad and Jake today who were extremely helpful

Nice, clean pub/restaurant. Food was decent although a bit too much dressing on the salad for my taste. Car park plus beer garden. Friendly and helpful staff.

We were a group of 24 celebrating a birthday and had had the reservation for months, the service provided on the day was outstanding. The kind staff did their best to ensure everything went smoothly before and after the meal. The food was cooked so well and in good time even though they expressed they had limited chefs in the kitchen. There were always members of staff available at the bar and made drinks efficiently. We felt very welcomed, a great atmosphere and a lovely meal.

Had my husbands 80th birthday celebration here. Brilliant service, food lovely. There was about 25 of us and it was lovely.

Pretty well-kept inside, but the outside area was plagued with smokers (despite no smoking/vaping signs), and the seat cushions were filthy.

No decaf tea. No child menu. Chain pub. Nice outside dining area (but smoking allowed which leaks inside) with a small child play area.

Great place, nice ambience, decent food. 👌The staff are really friendly, the people in there are really nice. Great place to have a bite or a drink. What's not to like.

We came as a table of 6 for Fathers Day, I can speak for all of us when I say the food was delicious and amazing. The staff were lovely, warm and welcoming! We had lunch and dessert and the standards were unbeatable. I highly recommend this place!

We visited today for a special birthday lunch for my Mother. All of our food was served promptly, was delicious with fresh appetising salads and all beautifully presented. The staff were very welcoming, attentive and nothing was too much trouble for both members of staff called Meg. My Mother was thrilled with her 'birthday pudding' and the effort made by the staff presenting it. Thank you for a wonderful experience.

A last minute decision to go here. Only in Cheltenham for one night, so it was a toss up as to which Pub to visit for a meal. The reviews for The Hatherley were slightly better than the alternative, so we elected to go there even though the wall was a bit longer. The menu had a good range of choices, and we all enjoyed our selection. The beers are also a good range, although as soon as I see a Greene King you've already got me hooked. The service was outstanding, which is impressive as the Pub was packed due to quiz night. A very good evening.

Had a lovely evening last night. Pub was very busy but we didn't have to wait long forvour meal. Staff were very polite and attentive. Food was lovely Megan made sure we were well looked after. Used my Friends and Family app so it wasn't too expensive

Great service today. I think it was assistant manager Megan and Team Leader Ethan on the bar and quickly sorted out a big queue knowing who was next. It was a quiet evening really but with people in to watch the England friendly football. We asked for it to be on and it was not a problem. The pub has had a nice refurb but I wasn’t expecting what was clearly microwave mashed potato’s for £12.95! Disappointing

Having been disappointed elsewhere, we phoned the Hatherly at 7 30 on Sunday 12th May. They immediately booked a table for us and made us very welcome. Tracy invited us to try the 2 for £11 99 menu. The food was delicious and plentiful. We could not fault the the staff, especially Tracy and the lad behind the bar. Maybe the building needs updating but they went all out to accommodate us. Thank you.

For a chain pub this is excellent. The food was fantastic so they must have a really good chef. The staff were enthusiastic. The tables quite basic. Outside on this sunny day the garden was really quite nice. I would certainly go there again.

I was seated BY WAITER to table in lunchtime, waited 40 minutes to be served, than I was informed that by this table is not servis.... Ridiculous, absolutely stupid. You have lost a customer....

Came to the Hatherley for a work meal. The staff were very friendly, food was lovely and the service was quick and easy. Lovely atmosphere, clean and tidy pub with a great vibe. Will definitely bring the family here next time.

We like the Hatherley, it is our local pub but we are completely and utterly fed up with it claiming it is dog friendly - what a total joke. With a small, well behaved dog, we are confined to what used to be the public bar, with big groups of loud men standing around us f'ing and blinding, while the rest of the pub is empty. My wife, my autistic daughter, my 87 year old mother, my in-laws in their 80s and I do not find that dog friendly, or friendly to us as a family in any way. We find it totally despicable. Can you please change your policy so people with dogs can sit anywhere except the table service platform, or stop pretending you are dog friendly.

Great food for great prices and a wonderful time out with the family. Amazing customer service as well especially for a bar Woman called Paula who was really nice and made us all laugh. Would recommend

We visited on a Friday night and the pub was extremely busy. A long wait for drinks at the packed bar. However, the service was friendly despite the staff being rushed off their feet, and the meals were great. We would definitely come back again (but probably not on a Friday night!). Recommended.

The Hatherley put on a superb buffet for 25 people to celebrate my late husband’s life. It was a wonderful afternoon from beginning to end and I’d like to thank the marvellous staff, especially Megan, for making sure Mike had a good send off.

Called in for dinner whilst camping at a site down the road. Very busy, but just managed to get a table for two, ordered food, which was delivered to table quickly, food was good and staff pleasant.

Ordered food, 20mins later they said they ran out of turkey, had to pay more for the gammon as the put the original order through wrong, Absolute joke.

cheesecake in this place slapped so hard, don't even get me started on the steaks, banging lad trust. Elliot guy in there was a g not gonna lie, nice bloke 💀

Popped in for meal last nite..First time there and place looks fab and food and service was perfect,,will be eating there again

Visited Easter Sunday, pre booked the table for 5 adults. Food was lovely, waitress was lovely, but there simply wasn’t enough staff working that day. The restaurant was fairly busy, not packed though, our waitress was doing the best she could, but we had to wait a long time for drinks and for our table to be cleared. There was a 30 min wait for food which was explained to us. We didn’t order a dessert in the end as it took them so long to clear the table (took away 3 plates then 20 mins until the other plates were cleared). Frustratingly one of the waitresses spent a lot of time stopping and chatting to someone sat near the bar area, really not good when her colleague was so busy. It won’t stop me going back, but perhaps not for a family meal.

One of my favourite places to have a nice quiet drink. Always met with a friendly smile and made to feel welcome. This has to be one of my favourite Greene King pub x

Pretty standard pub chain but the steak pie was fantastic.

The food wasn't very good. The pub was dull and very cold.We sat next to a radiator but it wasn't on !

My wife and I have rediscovered the Hatherley after many years. We popped in for food several months ago and it is now a firm favourite we have visited many times. We visited on Saturday with friends, it was quite busy which to me is always a good thing. Without going into too much detail there was a slight issue with my food. I spoke to the manageress who was lovely, a credit to Greene King, she could not have been more helpful and accommodating which we really appreciated. These things happen, but it is how they are dealt with, in this instance the service was exceptional. To that manageress I say thank you and we look forward to seeing you next time.

Went with Family for Grandsons birthday. Staff very helpful and dinner was great. No long wait, food was tasty and hot. Great inside and outside. Thanks to all who served us that day. See you again definitely.

Visited 02/03/24: booked a table for dinner but was seated in the free for all area with no table service and as a disabled person, this wasn’t what I wanted obviously. It was very busy so I guess they didn’t have enough tables but they could’ve done table service for us with the accessible requirements. The food was okay, nothing amazing. Family enjoyed theirs and they had large portions (mac&cheese recommended but not picture) I had the hunters chicken which wasn’t good as seemed old and reheated so guess I lucked out with my particular choice. Parking can get busy and we managed to take the last space. The pub itself is accessible which is great because it’s a hard thing to find these days! A smooth slope for the rear entrance. Pleasant accessible toilet with a radar key left in the lock.

Wonderful place to visit in an excellent location to chill and be yourself away from the hustle and bustle of London.

Not what it used to be. No more mobile ordering, limited menus on Sundays, hardly any staff. Greatfield near Morrisons is far better.
