Hatch Brunch House in Calderdale

Superb. Great good, very friendly and helpful staff and nice ambience. We went back again. It was my birthday and wanted to get a decent breakfast so went here, it was the right choice. I had the Eggs Benny which is also known as Eggs Benedict. There are 3 options - Serrano Ham, Mushrooms & Spinach or Smoked Salmon. I love smoked salmon so easy choice. You can also choose sourdough toast or English muffin and I went for the sourdough. It was superb. The smoked salmon was high quality with a really strong deep smoking giving it loads of flavour. The poached Eggs were spot on, the house hollandaise was very good and the toast was great too. I had a coffee with it and that was decent. The staff are very friendly and welcoming. We went back two days later on the last day of our trip to Halifax. If we return to Halifax we will definitely be visiting again. Highly recommended. Thanks!

Went to Hatch after a recommendation on Google and it was definitely worth it. The staff were super friendly and the food was delicious. If we're ever in the area again we'll be sure to pay another visit

It was ok but the basics weren’t great. Upon entering you could already tell the room was going to be warm with condensation at the windows. Being seated in the most upright window seats ever, you almost felt like you’d done something wrong. We ordered coffees and juices which were good. I had the full English with poached eggs which to be fair, we were told would take up to 25-30 mins. That’s fine, but when I could literally see it under the heat lamps for 5 minutes before someone brought it over, it’s not ideal. Sausages were overdone, two small slices of streaky bacon were hard and dry, toast was rock hard and not even toasted and the poached eggs clearly didn’t enjoy being subjected to manhandling by the chef and left to sunbathe under the heat lamps (hard yolks). By the time we’d been served our food, we needed another drink. Fine, but you have to go over to the counter to queue and order. So your food you’ve been waiting for just goes colder. Definitely not the best breakfast I’ve had and definitely things to be improved upon.

Lovely little cafe with a good menu for food, drinks & a selection of cakes by the tills. The place itself is modern & nicely decorated, you sometimes have to wait to be seated as it can get very busy, however always had a good experience with the food.

Found this place by accident and what a delight it is. Food is amazing, good quality ingredients and the young staff they have looking after the place are an absolute credit, big mention should go to the two young waitresses that met us at the entrance and escorted us to the table. Did not get their names but they are so polite and charming. If management are reading this , we attended on Sunday 29th June for brunch, look at you rota for the day and say thank you to all those working that shift. John &Hayley

This is the second time visiting here and each time it’s been a little odd. I had a full English and my husband had the pancakes with bacon, sausage and egg. My toast wasn’t toasted, I also had to ask for butter but the rest was okay! It didn’t blow me away and for nearly £13 I was expecting it to be a bit nicer! My husbands pancakes again were just okay. We ordered two caramel lattes, which when they came had chocolate on the top, almost like a confused latte/cappuccino. They didn’t taste great either. Additionally our drinks came after our food which was odd as it wasn’t busy. I do think when you are paying premium prices, the food and coffee needs to be top notch! It’s not a bad place but for the prices it needs a little improvement! The staff seem friendly enough which is good. I do think it’s one of those trendy, over hyped places!

Ordered the toast and eggs and the avocado and beetroot toast with halloumi. The portion sizes were huge and well presented. Overall flavoursome and delivered very quickly. The team are also wonderful and give great service. Highly recommended

What a lovely, warm welcome from RICH the manager. I noticed how kind he was to another couple who came in also. The lady was in a wheelchair & he treated her with respect & dignity.

Had an hour to spare before we had to be somewhere and happened to walk past this great little ‘brunch house’. So pleased we called in, nice little treat. Food was delicious, the loose tea is a great touch and the coffee is one of the best I’ve had. Very clean and team were extremely friendly and helpful especially the gent who served us. My partner was reading the previous reviews as I was typing this and I genuinely don’t know why people aren’t rating it higher. We will be back soon!!

Hi there, We came to dine in today as a family. I have been looking forward to coming into the cafe for some time. The food and service was amazing and the staff was very helpful. A major issue we faced today which was the amount of smell and smoke from the kitchen spread all throughout the dining area. We took with us our 3 month old baby and nephew who is 10 years old. All of us left the cafe with a wheezy chest and a strong smell stuck to our clothes. I was very hesitant when came to the cafe as my mrs wanted to leave but now I figured we should have left. The baby has been coughing since we came home and all of us had to change our clothes immediately. I hope that it was a faulty fan or vent and this isn't the normal atmosphere is the cafe because we would not visit again even though the food and service was brilliant. Kind regards

Firstly sat in the seats alongside the window which are wooden single bench seats that don't move - ridiculously uncomfortable that needs changing! The service was attentive and friendly. The atmosphere was awful with a smoke filled room which after a while was very unpleasant and caused me to leave sooner than I might have done. Then food was literally okay I had a breakfast bun but the bun I think must have been warmed on a hot plate or griddle it was overly oily and seemed a bit stale. On balance it looks the part but gets let down badly with some of the things I've mentioned and I would agree with other comments on here ...needs to do better!

What a lovely little gem to have breakfast. A great selection of breakfast foods with a twist. Forget your traditional breakfast and have something more exciting and tasty- thoroughly enjoyed it and good coffee too. Definitely worth a visit !!

My partner and I visited here for breakfast for the first time last week. We ordered the steak, potatoes and egg and the full English. Both meals arrived promptly, price was ok and staff were polite and helpful. Sadly, the food itself was really bland! It was as though the chef had not put any thought into the flavour of the dishes and avoided putting any seasoning/herbs onto any of it. Also, our clothes smelt so strongly of smokey cooking smells afterwards from the open kitchen, which was not ideal. We will probably return but will opt for a sweet option rather than savoury to see if that’s a better choice.

This is the third time I have visited Hatch and I am slightly more disappointed every time I go. I asked a waitress if they had a children’s menu and she said no but they could do a smaller portion. At the till, I was told they could knock a pound off as it costs the same for ingredients. I didn’t agree but didn’t say anything and just ordered. The food came quickly. I had added bacon to my eggs on toast. The toast was still bread and the bacon looked like it had been stuck to the pan and then just thrown on the side. They do have certain good points like the pop hash browns which are always a hit. I just think for a bill of over £30 for 2 drinks and 3 eggs on toast…the standard should be higher. It was busy but there’s not alot of competition in Halifax for brunch. Also, we had to get changed when we got home as the smell of cooking was so strong in our clothes as ventilation in the restaurant is obviously not very good.

Every item on the menu looked lovely! All pleased with what we ordered and the food came extremely quick. Only reason it doesn’t get a 5/5 is due to the smoothie I ordered not arriving until I had almost finished my food. I did ask where it was on two occasions and it appeared there was quite a queue in them being made but had I been told this when ordering along with food, I wouldn’t have ordered one. I will still return as the food was great and the décor beautiful but I know for next time the smoothies take a while.

Heard good things about this place so was excited to try it out. Brunch options were good, plenty of options. We ordered the veggie breakfast which was actually a bit bland. Eggs could’ve been seasoned a bit more. Also it said it came with beans but it was pot of tomato sauce. We ordered the chicken open kebab and that was nice. Personally it was a bit salad heavy. Could’ve done with having less to compliment the flatbread. Chicken was cooked nicely and had a great flavour. Hummus was also delicious. This was our first visit here, but won’t let one meal put us off returning again to try out the other food options.
