Called in for breakfast . I have visited before and found it quite nice although some of the staff can be a little curt. This time i was met with a miserable man with glasses , bellowing out orders. He handed me my order and proceeded with a very backward stereotype, a racial "joke". I don't expect to be racially abused when i am spending my hard earned money in your cafe. After his bigoted quip, he scurried off very quickly. I am glad he did as it was likely he d have had his glasses smacked off his head. Cheeky boy trying to belittle people when he's serving coffees for a living. I wont be back near the establishment as I don't support bigots.

We have just moved in to the building and being able to get a decent bacon roll in the morning is a god send. Loads of choice for lunches, the staff are friendly and willing to make just about any salad or sandwich for you. Great choice of breads, and the daily street food special is consistently very good. Don't even get me started on the cakes, my diet is shot but its sooo worth it!

A great location for a refreshment break for any of the office locations along Basing View. Met a colleague here who had a massive sausage sandwich - it looked great. A busy spot just before 9, but well appointed, clean and great service - well done.

I’ve been going to Hartleys Kitchen for a few months since I started working in the same building... I’m a vegetarian and they are always willing to help me out with different options even if not on the menu regardless if this is breakfast or lunch. The staff are always happy to help out and really chatty! Really great team and they are what makes it even easier to come back!

Visit Hartley's regularly for breakfast, it's really good value, coffee and breakfast for about a fiver. Good quality and you can order pretty much whatever you like they're very flexible with options. Highly recommend!

Lots of meat not enough vegetarian options. But what I have had was OK think they should research more vegetarian meals

I found this place during a sunny lunchtime walk along Basing View. Thought I'd pop in and see what they had to offer and was impressed by the selection of fresh and cooked to order products on offer. I chose the house special Lamb Doner wrap which is excellent - warm, filling, full of flavour, just the right amount of spice and only £4! On a second visit I tried one of the pre-prepared paninis and this was also really good. I've started making more of an effort to walk this way at lunch to get the higher quality items on offer.

Been eating here for the past two weeks whilst working in the area and I have to say I will most definitely miss my lunchtime trip to Hartleys once I'm back up north! They have a fantastic selection of toasties, wraps, specials that change every day, you name it they do it! Personal favourites for us have been the house special, the lamb donor wrap and the chicken, pesto and mozzarella wrap!! They also do the nicest cakes as well, which are very hard to resist whilst queuing up to pay, would definitely recommend the chocolate brownie! The staff are all lovely and friendly and make a point of remembering you which was a nice touch and all the food is reasonably priced which is an added bonus! So if you are in the area then I would definitely recommend paying a visit, I know I will if I come again! Thanks!!

Soup of the day is normally very good. Have salad and panini are fine. For a quick and homemade food is good option.La sopa del día suele estar muy rica. Las ensaladas y paninis están bien. Para comer algo rápido y casero es buena opción.

Since the opening of Waitrose the once friendly staff at Hartleys kitchen are feeling the tension and strains and have on occasion let their good manners slip. This is such a shame as it was once the place to go for a nice lunch but now they seem to have forgotten the real reason for their success - the customer. Rudeness and slow waiting times will await you on your visit - this is now common place. Lashings of cheese mixed with inflated prices are also given with all of their sandwiches and rolls. Here's hoping a new year gives them a fresh lease of life and they get back on track. (Fingers crossed).

I go here once a week to treat myself to some lunch. And it is always a treat. I am currently trying to be good with what I eat and the lovely people at Hartleys make me the most delicious jacket potato with roast chicken and salad. Highly recommended.

The paninis here are good and I am highly critical of paninis, it is hard to find one where it's not all soggy but this place knows how to make their paninis.

Hartley's does a great job for the workers in nearby offices, but it's still open to all us other folk too and it's a place we visit regularly for either a drink or lunch. The menu is compact but imaginative and all the food is prepared on the premises, the quality is great and the prices more than reasonable.... why pay Costa prices when the coffee's just as good here at a much better price :) The staff are enthusiastic and welcoming and the sofas (yes!) equally so. If you're around Basing view or don't mind walking / driving there, it's worth the effort, a cut above the average cafe.

Great coffee shop ,very quirky, ever changing menu offering wraps ,Panini's, focaccias .There for a business trip ,popped in for a coffee & decided to try the House special.[a combination of Cajun chicken ,jalapenos mint & yogurt dressing & cheddar cheese all cooked in a large floured tortilla.] amazing. The coffee is capriccio locally roasted & a great flavour. This place gets very busy at lunchtimes with queues out of the door every lunchtime I'm told. I had a slice of the homemade rocky road to take away with me.

Disappointing lunch visit , we have visited this restaurant several times and been happy , but our lunch on this visit was to good . I had the special burger and it was so dry and the pudding which was a special peach crumble I had to sen back as the peaches were not cooked and very hard I could not get a knife through them . It’s a shame as it has put us off going again

Great staff, lovely to sit by the fire in the bar. Restaurant area felt a bit formal to me so stayed in the bar. Food was excellent but very small portions, and not cheap either. I had the gammon and could have eaten 2 plates.

Dropped in for a pint and something to eat, new menu recently so tried the Croque Monsieur. Kieren & Tyrone in the kitchens did a great job- better than I had in France! Real ham, loads of cheese and tasty sourdough toast with a decent side salad and dressing made a real plateful. Definitely having this again!
