Was after 1 o clock Sunday 1st Sept. Obviously had stopped serving breakfasts (at 11) So husband chose Hunters Chicken and I had Burger ,with 2 drinks. The staff were lovely and accommodating.I asked for my burger to be served minus the salad inside it.It was a top rate burger in a brioche bun, with a thick slice of bacon, with oozy stringy cheese. came with 4 homemade onion rings which were hot and crispy, skin on fries and portion of coleslaw. Husbands breast of chicken was one of the thickest we have ever seen served covered in bbq sauce thick crispy bacon and again lovely stringy cheese sauce.skin on fries, fantastic side salad, different leaves, small tomatoes, cucumber and peppers, and coleslaw. He also had a slice of their coffee and walnut cake, was delicious! Everything was perfectly cooked, the staff were lovely, .helpful, and the place was spotless! will def go again.(the meals were both cheaper than the run of the mill ding ding pub chain offering)

Disappointed with the cafe. Our coffee was good. But the staff are not all welcoming not attentive. 2 members of staff came in for a break and took cakes from under a cover on the counter. In fact the lady / keep fit lady ate it straight away. Not hygienic. No serving tongs used. No decorum. No pleasantries. The male member was the same. He may have been hungry. He took a bite of another cake ? They didn't sit down. It wasn't busy. Obviously they work here so they will get it possibly free. Not a problem. Enjoy. But what about manner. Yes we also had cake. Ultra small piece for £3. It was homemade. Coffee good.

Found this cafe on an internet search having driven passed it on many occasions not knowing it was there in the rugby club grounds. Modern buildings housing rugby club, gym, and other sporting facilities. Modern furnishings in comfortable surroundings, large seating areas with counter service for coffee and cake, breakfasts, light lunches and bistro style evening meals. Service was good with friendly staff. Once ordered food is brought to your table by attentive servers. We found that there was some good choice on the light lunch section of the menu and choose sandwiches which come with a good side salad and a bowl of crisps. The portion size is good and chips are available if you prefer them. We enjoyed our food and coffee and would return when in the area.

Such a disappointment. Visited and ordered breakfast. Told it was a 20-30 minute wait. Fair enough. 45 minutes later I checked to make sure our order hadn’t been missed and was told another 15 minute wait. Nobody in the place was eating breakfast or cooked meals at this point and the place had emptied considerably. Waited a further 15 mins and checked again to be told that it would be 5 minutes, they were busy (place virtually empty and nobody eating) and that they had run out of bacon. Five minutes passed. Saw a staff member come in with a tray of bacon. Good news! Waited again for a further 5 minutes. No sign of the breakfast. To be honest it seemed as though nobody was actually cooking food in Hartleys at all but for some reason we weren’t told this. Teenage staff running the place were polite but lacking in the ability to tell us the truth or were poorly advised. When I asked for a refund the staff were visibly relieved to have got rid of us. Something really amiss here this morning and left disappointed and frustrated as there was nobody I felt able to speak to who could give me any answers as I was not about to complain to a bunch of teenagers doing their best. Some supervision needed here and some honesty about what’s going on as I don’t think there was an adult, or a cook, on the premises who took charge.

The 3 bar staff looked at us like we were rubbish blowing through the door and carried on chatting amongst themselves before deciding to ask what we wanted. I even asked if they were actually open, thinking we’d come in on a closed day. No smiles or hello. Drinks were good but music loud and my cup was dirty. Hardly a warm welcome for our first experience and so won’t be back.

This was my first visit to Hartley’s, suggested by a friend. We sat away from the counter area in a light and bright room. Service is from the counter and orders then brought to your table. The place was busy, but we did not need to queue for more than a minute or two, and our meal was brought in less than ten minutes. I had very nice soup, with a roll. Another option on the menu was soup with savoury scone, but was not available that day. Full meals, sandwiches and snacks, plus various cakes, are served. Staff are pleasant, tables were cleared quickly and empty tables cleaned promptly. I will visit again.

Went in for a lunch while I was doing some analysis work on my laptop. Really good vibe, served by nice young lady and had a Mezze, (very like tapas and really different for here, and fresh). Would recommend for food without hesitation. Relaxing cafe bar type atmosphere!

I would love to review the food, but after sitting for 55mins waiting for a BLT, they had forgotten my order. Like a typical English person, I politely waited thinking it maybe due to some reason out of their control. It wasn't particularly busy and I was sat right in the line of sight of both the girls behind the counter, one was mostly preoccupied with her phone. I don't like giving bad reviews, but I'm miffed. Never mind maybe some other time I'll get to taste what they have to offer.

A rugby club is not the first place you look at for lunch or food in general, however it’s well worth a visit. The lunch deal - soup and a sandwich - at £8 is great value for money and today’s tomato and red pepper soup was clearly homemade and delicious. You don’t need to be a member.

50 min to get two coffees 2 soups and sandwiches. Had to ask for someone to come and take our order after sitting patiently for over 10min. Service not with a smile from all waitresses. Food was excellent when it came but no one came to ask if it was ok until they were clearing up. It's obviously where club members go and was not that welcoming. It's a shame the service and atmosphere lets it down as the food was very nice!

The food on offer is superb, not only the range but also the presentation. The staff are very friendly and extremely helpful. The layout of the cafe is great and they have really worked hard to provide a safe environment ensuring that covid 19 guidelines are followed.

We went for the first (and last) time today. The atmosphere was not welcoming - clearly frequented by the same people all the time. ( none of whom were eating!) The chicken burger was mushy with no butter or dressing on the bread - just a dry burger in a bun. The cream cheese and avocado bagel was dry and only had topping on half with the other half dry and planted on top. We requested no salad with the toastie we ordered but got it anyway. The fries were full of black/ green ends and the whole meal was cold. The bar girl spent most of her time fiddling with her hair in between serving food and drinks. Not an experience we will repeat.

I don’tknow if this place is any good. After 15 minutes waiting at the bar, only 1 person got served - by the 2 staff. The 1 ‘serving’ then left 6 of us waiting and went outside to wipe down tables. Rude, surly, we up and left.

We had the unfortunate "luck" of spending a night at this place. Got a "suite" under the creaky flooring of the pub with noise-channelling ventilation ducts overhead, a substandard kitchen with no cupboards and wobbly table, a toilet with no ventilation, exposed pipes and disjointed faucet and a door with no handle in sight... All this came with a delayed check-in and service that leaves much to hope for. While the rooms above the pub may make for a better night's sleep, there is little hope that could improve this establishment's culture of hospitality.

We had a nice English breakfast for the start of our walk. Not the best ever perhaps, but enjoyable and open at 7:30. Prices are reasonable, but cash only

I came here during each visit from Canada and we were just getting ready to return again. I am just shocked to find out that they have closed permanently and I can only live with my memories. I wanted to bring my wife there for what I hoped would be another incredible weekend. I can only hope the very best for the family and say thanks for all of the memories and the fantastic bar towels that I still have after 20 years Thank you. Muchas gracias. Hvala, arrigoto, Merci,

What’s really interesting about this cafe is that it’s part of the now closed second funicular tram at the top. Loved the Yorkshire owner of the cafe ☕️. Great bacon rolls before we checked into The Grand next door 🚪 (which we liked ❤️ too)
