Festive Afternoon Tea this afternoon was very disappointing. It is clearly a stop gap to keep income trickling in between Sunday lunch and evening dinner service. The biggest issue is with the service, very inattentive, unconcerned staff not in the slightest bit interested in providing a professional level of attention. The afternoon tea was acceptable but not exactly delightful let alone memorable or to be recommend to others. Delightful setting with the hotel beautifully appointed and well decorated for Christmas, just a pity the staff were not switched on at all. Management at fault and it would appear no investment made in staff training.

Thought we would try the Water’s Edge restaurant the evening of our daughters graduation. I booked it three months previously but the restaurant receptionist made out we had no booking- until I presented the email. We were sat down the bottom in the corner, the first thing I noticed was the cobwebs and dead flies on the window ledge. It really puts you off eating in a restaurant that isn’t kept clean- if it wasn’t a celebration I would of left ( but didn’t want to cause upset to the family). Food very average and nothing special unfortunately. A lot of staff but not attentive and had to keep attracting their attention for service. View is obviously what they sell their reputation on. Wouldn’t return.

49th Wedding Anniversary - a special occasion for Lulu's sister and husband. The sister had lunch here only a few weeks ago and praised it. We opted for mains and desserts. Three of us chose the chef's fish & chips and we regretted it. The Haddock itself was delicious, the batter it came in was overcooked. The chips were hard but not crispy, the boudin was bland and the mussels quite frankly could have been just batter scraps - no evidence of any mussel whatsoever. Curiously enough we were also served a pot of curry sauce that brought back memories of the stuff that passed for curry in the late 60's and early 70's - Vesta anyone? Quite what it was doing on this plate is beyond my comprehension. By comparison, the corn-fed chicken dish was okay but nothing to write home about - do you really serve a poached egg done from a poacher in any restaurant? Desserts were confusing - 2 trifles were ordered, one looked like a cake and the other resembled a chocolate mousse with just a bit of sponge. The ice cream had nothing added to it so straight out of the catering tin methinks, my cheese and biscuits was good but mean on the cheese and high on price - £11.00 for something that should have cost around £7.00 The wine was good but at £32.00 was about £7.00 over-priced. The front of house was excellent was take a bow Arabella - you were exceptional. My conclusion is that I wished I'd done lunch there weeks previously!

As we were approaching our 30th anniversary we decided to book an evening meal here. We went in to make a reservation, and requested a particular table (which the young concierge said was No.19) and he noted it on our booking. Unfortunately my disabled wife was then called to the hospital on this day, so we rang to change the booking to the following night, we said we would still like the same table - but nothing had been noted on the booking ! When we arrived for our meal we were lead to different table and was advised that it was No 19 - so the concierge had given us the wrong table number. After the meal we asked our waitress (who had only been there a few weeks) if we could go to the bar have a drink and pay the full bill there. This, she agreed to. My husband took the bill to the bar and paid for (what we thought was) the meal bill and the coffees we had there. On the way driving home we received a telephone call from the hotel saying we had not paid the bill. Obviously we said it had been paid at the bar. Now, I know that I am at fault as well, as I did not check the bill, but they had only charged us for the coffees. We are now (even though it was partly our fault) too embarrassed to return there.

Visited this week for Afternoon Tea as a treat for my son's American fiancee. We are local and my mother has visited on various occasions for both lunch and Afternoon Tea so thought we knew our expectations would be met. We were quite disappointed that the sandwiches were served only with white bread, and the canapes were somewhat resembling hard slabs. We elected to have a glass of champagne and were asked if we'd like to have our tea a bit later. In the end we had to ask for our tea to be brought to the table and when it arrived it was quite undrinkable. It was, in fact, disgusting! The service was quite poor, despite the fact there appeared to be a fair few staff flitting about. Sadly neither myself, nor my mother, are likely to be making a re-visit anytime soon

Had a lovely lunch here today 22nd October. A great location and view of Falmouth Harbour and Flushing. A very good selection of starters and mains. Whole Sea Bream cooked to perfection with great service from entering the Hotel and throughout our lunch from the waiting staff. All a real asset to the Hotel! Have dined at a number of other restaurants in and around Falmouth recently (Mylor/Swan Pool) and have to say based on our experience we would choose the Greenbank Hotel next time.

Despite having been to Falmouth many times I had never been to the Greenbank Hotel for a meal before. We had a big family group lunch here (on two tables because of covid). They were clearly short-staffed yet did everything with a smile. The food was superb: delicious, appropriate quantity and presented beautifully. I plan to have a good reason to go back on the next visit to Falmouth.

This was our second afternoon tea at the Greenbank. We are locals and last year we enjoyed a superb afternoon tea and a wonderful stay for a special birthday. Last Saturday was our Sapphire wedding anniversary so we thought a champagne afternoon tea on the terrace would be a great way to celebrate. The weather was good and the seating was fine and socially distanced. We did enjoy it, but the tea wasn’t anything like as good this time and more expensive! It seemed that everything revolved around the champagne. It was very nice, but I would rather have had better quality food. The very small smoked salmon finger was good, as was the crab brioche roll. The bacon wrapped sausages were not cooked in the middle so we asked for them to be replaced which took half an hour. Even then they were greasy and more like cheap frankfurter sausages. Not worth the wait. The scones were disappointing. No flavour at all and doughy. The cakes looked wonderful. The mini lemon meringue tart was lovely, but everything else was disappointing. The sponge tasted of nothing, rather oily flavour and jam. The choc mint truffle cake tasted like toothpaste. We enjoyed our afternoon looking over the harbour, but came away with the feeling that cheap ingredients had been used with the ‘hook’ of champagne included. We would happily have given up the champagne for a better quality tea.

We have often enjoyed drinks in the bar at the hotel. It's a beautiful venue with a fantastic view and service is always very good, drinks are not cheap obviously but they often do really good cocktails at 241. And they are good. We have eaten in the restaurant in the past but not for ages but last night on spec we asked if they had a free table. There was no problem with this. The views from the restaurant are even better than from the bar and I like the fact that they aren't stuffing too many tables in. We were very comfortable The food was okay. My partner enjoyed his steak, which he said was good quality perfectly cooked, and his soup was pretty yum. However I was disappointed with the aranicini, it was just a rice ball it wasn't stuffed though it came with asparagus and beetroot. The asparagus was excellent but the rice ball was just that and seemed a bit pointless. And my monkfish tumeric curry thingy didn't really work though the monkfish was good and the spice level was agreeable. I just found it all too dry. What was good was the bread though, oh my goodness I loved mine and they certainly know how to serve the butter properly. It should be a matter of course but so often we get given a rock hard pat. Service wasn't the best. Despite the fact that the dining room was by no means full it was very slow. What got up my nose in particular was that when I asked whether they could package up some of my partners steak should he be not able to finish it I was told No as they don't allow food to be taken away for health and safety reasons. Frankly I think this is pretentious nonsense. My immediate response was that maybe I would take it away wrapped up in the napkin then. I was advised that this would not be a good idea. I had a vision of myself being apprehended at the door with a tug of war over the contents. What was good was that Natalie asked how the food was and she genuinely seemed to want feedback. I would have given it a 4 but this health and safety malarkey is plain idiotic. I expect now to get a response giving chapter and verse explaining this lunacy. As I said at the time I have NEVER ever had this response before. NEVER EVER. And this is across the board from 5 star places to simple places. And I have to say I really rebel against it and for this reason I am unlikely to be running back soon. Though come to think of it we are booked up for the foodie gin event on the 14th though someone else may be running this. But just in case I am bringing a container with me to hoover up any thing I don't eat. Hopefully you won't be looking as I would hate to think that I should be 'had up'. There is a strong argument that it's the Greenbank who should be 'had up' for encouraging waste. Yes really. I am not impressed.

We were not residents of the Hotel, we booked dinner one evening whilst staying in Falmouth. Therefore this review is of the Hotel's restaurant not it's rooms or other facilities.Okay, but only okay. Menu not overly interesting and a tad over priced. Presentation of main course disappointing, large whole potatoes under a piece fish! Service okay but not a "special" feeling. If you park below the hotel, steep stairs from the "pub" up to the hotel.

We eat here often, you can eat in or outside on the harbour front, plenty of places to sit in both areas. You can have an evening meal or a tasty lunch or a snack with coffee or tea or just have a bite at the bar! There are plenty of types of eating and a range of prices on the menu also an extensive specials board. Sunday’s they have lovely tasty Sunday lunches, which are best pre-booked because they are very popular especially in high season.Definitely well worth a visit even if it is just to sit and watch the sun go down or people watch with tasty eats in front of you.

Went here for our last night in Falmouth as a special treat. Ended up being really disappointed. My friend and I ordered beef brisket expecting a lovely tasty stew. Instead we got a pot of dry, stringy beef with no liquid. We complained but didn't feel our complaint was taken seriously. Although we were offered a free bottle of wine, the manager's response was to say that no one else has complained about the beef and that's how it should be served. The overall service lacked attention to detail and despite having two meals knocked off our bill the total still came to over £125 for four people.I am giving the review two stars purely based on the location and cocktails we had at the start of the night. I suggest the chef should take a look on Google to get some recipe ideas for beef brisket. Disappointed.

We'd travelled down by train for the day & had previously had lunch here - used to be about £16 for 2 courses. That deal no longer available but we think improved on by the option of 3 small plates to share. We had beef tomato stuffed with mozzarella, crab fish cake topped with poached egg which also came with pea shoots, samphire & spinach & a delicious sauce & slow cooked lamb shoulder which came with cucumber raita & shallots. There's quite a lot of choice outside of these 3 options - whichever you chose comes with rosemary focaccia & olives. We also had a very good gin& tonic each & the bill was £38. An amazing sunny day in .February which enhanced the beautiful view of the harbour. We're pensioners & don't have huge appetites & this was plenty for us - it's a plus to be given what you ask for & taken at face value when dessert/tea/coffee is declined. Stayed here last June & had a few reservations about the restaurant - all laid to rest today.

We are returning locals to the Harbourside restaurant and all previous visits have been without fault. With this in mind we booked to come back for our daughters twentieth birthday, however on this occasion we experienced problems with misleading/wrong information on the menu. My wife has a high intolerance to wheat and hence this mistake could have resulted in serious health problems had I not reiterated this multiple times to the waitress. We ordered the sharing board (priced at £60) which states online, and on the menu, that the dish is gluten free. When the dish arrived the squid was missing which I questioned, and was told it was removed due to my wife's allergy. The menu states the dish to be gluten free, however it clearly is not as the squid was removed, had we of know this we would not of ordered the dish. We feel had we not mentioned numerous time my wife's allergy and excepted the menu details to be correct the dish would have been served with the squid and resulted in serious problems. To top this the dish was charged for in full, until I pointed out their error and a small discount of just ten percent was given. The restaurant manageress accepted they were wrong and advised me they would be changing the web menu and their in house menu, this I will be closely looking out for, but until then if you have a food intolerance do not rely on what the menu reads, until they have changed them.

Be careful what you choose. The pearl barley risotto was a watery soup which lacked flavour. The management should have been aware that this was not good enough. It really is to be avoided but other lunchtime courses were fine. They tried very hard with the service but there was an attempt by maintenance to fix an IT fault which resulted in someone walking through the restaurant a number of times while talking on a mobile 'phone. This should have been left to after service. It could be a very good place for a leisurely lunch with a bit more attention to detail.

This was our second visit to the Harbourside Restaurant and it was as good as the first. The view is superb, the staff were attentive but unobtrusive and the food was excellent. It was very pleasant to sit in the lounge overlooking the estuary with pre-dinner drinks. The first course of native oysters served in three different ways was as interesting as it was good. Catch of the day was cod served with samphire, both cooked beautifully. The monkfish was absolutely delicious. The splendid Pimms-based dessert was very refreshing. The wine list has variety and includes good Cornish wines, as it should. Current chef Nick knows how to prepare and serve good ingredients in an imaginative way. The restaurant has ample staff who are very attentive, and they are friendly and courteous and really know how to look after their customers. There is a nice menu that has a good selection, and the food is well presented and tasty. I would put it in the medium price range bracket and recommend it as "well worth visiting". I really liked to no rush, but competent style of the waiters, and there are some good yet inexpensive wines in their cellar.

I've been going to the Greenbank for 11 years and it's been a roller coaster ride from the heights of fine dining to very ordinary fare. I'm glad to say that the Greenbank is back on form in a big way. The bar and restaurant have undergone a super-chic make over and seem to have a name now - Harbourside. It looks stunning. And the service is back to being very attentive - napkin placed on lap, table crumbs scraped away between courses. These are small but important touches that complete the fine dining experience. Prices weren't stupid - £18 for catch of the day which was hake or sole of the day which was lemon sole. I really enjoyed my meal and I will certainly be back if these high standards persist. I hope they do.

I visited for lunch with my husband, we enjoyed three delicious courses for just £20 each, so fantastic value for money! The restaurant itself has recently been refurbished and has been beautifully done in a contemporary nautical style. The food was both gorgeous to look at and to eat, the staff were attentive and first class. We thoroughly enjoyed the views, watching the boats in the harbour was utterly relaxing and I left feeling pampered.

Booked for afternoon tea 3pm advertised from 2pm arrived at 3 to be told our table was not ready. Happy to take a seat in the bar, 20 minutes later seated and order taken. Half an hour later no food or drink. No apology only told that every one was ordering coffee so we had to wait. 40 minutes later tea arrived ordered classic tea for two and chocoholic tea for 2. Well all I can say is 59 pound not well spent. 3 very small scones per tea and minute cream and very small cakes and sandwiches.

Yesterday myself, my daughter & her Mother-in-law, were booked in for afternoon tea at 2:30. We arrived promptly & were shown to our table, & our drinks ordered. By 3:00 we had drunk our drinks & there was still no sign of our food! At this time we ordered some crisps to eat while waiting, as we had all missed lunch!

Went for Sunday lunch and the dining room was apparently being refurbished so the function room overlooking the river was set up for lunch. Unfortunately it wasn't set up very well with tables lining the wall as though awaiting a buffet and a cheap coat rail in the middle of the room. To get to the room it was necessary to take a route march down the hotel corridors which were very tired looking. Although the food itself was very good it was a bit like being on the set of Foyles War.

My wife and booked in for our Valentine's dinner, the set menu looked great and the setting is gorgeous. Sadly, that was as good as it got. We did indeed have a table with a beautiful view of Falmouth harbour and the river Fal, but we were treated with a mixture of sincere warmth and casual lack of interest by the staff of the Harbourside. The food was good, not great, well prepared and served at a very pleasant pace, it was however a very expensive meal and the staff needs to show interest in their charges. Our meal, with wine, was over £125...that's a great meal anywhere, and I think the staff should bear that in mind. When you charge these prices, you need to be a step ahead of the competition, not acting as though you can't be bothered. To be honest, my money can do better elsewhere and it likely will. This restaurant has loads of potential and I'd love to see them embrace it.

Booked here for my wedding anniversary. Receptionist was unfriendly but found the restaurant staff to be very pleasant. Setting was beautiful but the food was very average and at near to £90.00 for a meal and a bottle of wine I would have expected the food to be divine. My advice is don't get pulled in by the pretty location when there are other as lovely places to eat in falmouth at a fraction of the cost and with great tasting food. The most disappointing anniversary we have had.

We went for dinner here recently, it is the low season so the restaurant was only about half full. We had very nice drinks in the hotel cocktail bar prior to dinner and then a nice dinner in the restaurant. The views are very good and quite atmospheric even at night, obviously it affords a better view in the extended summer daylight hours.

The view was spectacular. So was the company. The let down was my meal. The menu stated that two courses cost £16.00. I wasn't especially hungry as it was lunch not dinner so I chose a starter, chicken liver parfait with figs, walnuts and brioche, and a pudding, Christmas Pudding with Brandy Anglaise.

What a great shame. A group of us came to The Greenbank to enjoy some tapas as a leaving celebration for a colleague. We were quoted £15 a head and expected a good selection of food for this amount. Unfortunately, we were presented with a couple of bowls of meatballs, a bowl of anchovies, some olives, some potato wedges and scampie. For a party of our size we expected these bowls to be replenished, but no. There was not nearly enough to share for £15 a head. We had to eat elsewhere later on that evening in order to stave off the hunger. We've used the Greenbank for functions a few times before- we won't return if this is the standard of value for money the hotel now offers.

Our table seemed to be in an extension off the main restaurant which totally lacked atmosphere. our party of eight were seated on what can only be described as a boardroom size table which made it difficult to hold any reasonable conversation with anyone but the person either side. Food was disappointing for the price and my fish dish was luke warm and pretty bland.

Following an easy email booking my husband, vegetarian son & I arrived for drinks & menu contemplation on the terrace overlooking the harbour. We were shown to our table & our food & wine order taken as soon as we were ready. Within 30 minutes we had started our meals and were very impressed with the relaxed, courteous staff. The food was delicious. My son was very impressed withe wide variety of vegetarian dishes on offer. There were plenty of fish & meat courses to choose from. My fillet steak was cooked exactly to my liking. We were really happy with our first outing to this 2 AA rosette restaurant. My son's offer to add an amount to the bill (as a tip) was politely declined. I am looking forward to another visit to experience some more of the menu!

We decided to treat ourselves to a dinner, so we chose the Greenbank hotel. We found we had to wait 40 minutes for a table after the booked time. The food was poor, and you needed a magnifying glass to see were the food was on your plate. It was tasteless and bland. Very poor for what they charged for the meal. The only good thing about the meal was the view from the table.

The Greenbank prides itself on it's Harbourside Restaurant, awarded AA 2 Rosettes. I was overjoyed to see their fabulous afternoon tea menu, with beautiful cake stands packed with freshly cut sandwiches, scones, clotted cream, cakes, fudge and all manner of delights- perfect for our family celebration, with 4 generations gathering for the 92nd and 91st birthdays of my parents. They had first holidayed in the Greenbank in 1949, for their honeymoon, and then taken me on many family holidays there throughout the 1960s and 70s. My parents were overjoyed as the secret destination was revealed last Sunday afternoon, and they sat at the large table overlooking the estuary with their daughter, granddaughters our partners, and their 2 year old great grandson!! We were greater with care and attention, but sadly, things went downhill from there, in the service department. The restaurant was far from busy, but our simple order of 2 sharing platters of " Greenbank tea" and 1 of "Chocoholics Delight" and 1 tea for a toddler, took 45 minutes to start to arrive!! We had booked for 3.30, but were not all able to savour the delights of our scones till an hour later. My father has never been one to wait patiently, and this was an enormous event for him, as he is too frail to leave the house now under normal circumstances...I held my breath and prayed that food would start to arrive. To be fair, the quality of the tea was excellent, all fresh, fabulous quantities, but the wait? Could the kitchen really be that busy? The main problem seemed to be that no one of the staff tool us under their wing, they milled around, and at least 3 different waiters tried to deal with our table...with the inevitable result. Coffees arrived late, or not at all, Charlie at 2 drank all his milk within a millisecond, with no more being offered and no food arriving, teapots were not refilled, water arrived without glasses, butter had to be requested for the scones (my parents not believing in the cream and jam only option), but had to be melted in the kitchen as it was straight from the fridge and arrived in molten form. All in all, the family celebration was a success, as we were all together in a beautiful location, but I began to wish my parents had honeymooned in a different hotel in Falmouth, one where the service was still as it used to be and as my parents remembered. And, just a final thought, perhaps some little token of celebration of my parents' birthdays from the hotel (a sparkler, a candle?) would not have gone amiss, especially as I pointed out the celebration and my parents history with the hotel on booking, and again on arrival. Frankly, there is no excuse for such dismally poor service in a modern hotel with "Luxury 4 Star" rating...perhaps at Faulty Towers, but the Greenbank, Falmouth? The only stars I can give are for food quality, sorry!

After looking forward to a lovely afternoon tea for my wife's 40th birthday along with my 2 children we were left very disappointed with the out come. We had been online and checked out the menu and also checked out the menu boards before entering the hotel. Making our minds up was easy until we came across a very grumpy, disinterested uninformed waitress. We asked for a savoury afternoon tea for my wife and I but we're told that it was not on the menu anymore? Puzzled she went and asked the chef who said no! What to have now....... Well we asked the waitress what cakes were available only to be told " what ever the chef has left" what a con. As my children were equally excited to be there we ordered them a sharing child's afternoon tea me a cream tea and the birthday girl a cup of tea. Well when it came it was a terrible let down dry undecorated bun dry scones and very bland white bread ham sandwiches. Because the waitress was totally not interested in us as customers she didn't ask dietary needs or if we wanted brown or white bread. Also looking at the other tables set in the restaurant with lovely linen napkins where was ours? Tissue napkins....! Also the toilets were not of standard you would of expected. Very poor Greenbank. For the money we paid your local tea shop could have done a better job. Definitely not 4Star!

Some tiny portions and very little of our three course meal (and amuse bouche and pre-dessert) tasted good. The lamb starter and pork main were tiny portions. My brill main course was meant to be served in a crispy potato covering. It was pale and flaccid; not crispy and golden. The sticky toffee pudding sponge was inferior tasting and the clotted cream was not on the plate. The table next to us were unhappy with their desserts too. On a brighter note, the male serving staff were very professional and attentive. Disappointed as we had looked forward to this. We felt too embarrassed to complain and preferred to just leave.

My family thought that we would celebrate my mothers 80th Birthday at the hotels restaurant on the 5 Nov13. The 5 adults and 2 teenagers all had a starter and a main course, a bottle of wine and 5 pints of coke (the coke alone cost £16). We all thought that the food was cold and the starters were very small but thought that the main course would make up for it (how wrong we were). Again the main courses were all cold and portion size was that small it was discussing. The bill was £241 and we all left hungry. Because it was my mothers 80th Birthday it was not the time to complain so instead I wrote a letter explaining my disappointment with the meal and price. Some 13 weeks later they have not had the decency to reply. So we got ripped off with the food and the management of the Greenbank could not even be bothered to reply to a customers dissatisfaction. We have used the Greenbank for some 30 years and will not be using it again and will not be recommending it to anyone.

Loved the setting, view was amazing and the bar area was clean and tidy. The Christmas decorations where a bit pathetic but understated seems the fashion nowadays. We went to the Harbourside Restaurant as it had some good reviews. I had seafood linguine. The sauce was rather good white wine with crème fraise and a hint of vanilla, nice but not overpowering. On the side were 'salty fingers' some seaweed stuff which went well with the dish. The disappointment was the seafood part of this dish. Re heated crayfish tails which made them chewy, lots of hot roast smoked salmon (nice) and langoustines which needed to be peeled and no finger bowl. OH had a steak. After I paid he asked if I left a tip. I did not as I felt that the extortionate cost of my one glass of wine was more than enough of a tip.

Have been going to the Greenbank hotel for 10 years or more now and for most of the years although the hotel and all staff are fantastic the restaurant overall during the years was dreadful and unfortunately again it is pretty dull. For a shot while they had a really great chef, Fiona, who transformed the restaurant into something pretty damned good with original ideas and perfect results which meant we could stay in a perfect hotel and also have a great meal, but now she has left we are back to same old stuff as pervious chefs before her. Dull dull and the smallest portions you can imagine. Recommend that you stay at the hotel here but do not eat ! It is a sad time when I know that I could cook better than a chef in a 4 star hotel restaurant.

Although the restaurant has a fabulous view over Falmouth harbour and 2 terrific waitresses, I am beginning to wonder if their is a competition amongst restauranteurs to put as little as possible on a plate and see how much they can get away with charging for it. I'm not looking for pub grub portions when I dine at this type of place but the starters and main courses were tiny. Several of our party had Cod that was about 2.5 inches square and came with half a cupful of lentils for £19. Additional side dishes, essential to bolster the meagre offering, were another £3 per portion. I had a fairly tough sirloin steak for £22 which took 2 lines on the menu to describe, but actually only came with chips and a pepper sauce. The cheese board met a whole new meaning of minimalist, containing 3 tiny slivers of cheese and biscuits that were as hard as ships biscuits. Still, I suppose we were overlooking the harbour! The cheese cost £9. The waitresses, though, were fantastic and the setting delightful.
