Hanwell Arms in Cherwell

I was looking for somewhere to have Sunday lunch and the pub is on my way home. The pub was clean, warm and welcoming. The staff were very friendly and looked after us vey well. The food was excellent value for money and of a very high standard, we all enjoyed our mains and a couple of us even forced down a pudding. I will definitely be going back.

Popped in there on a Sunday out of chance for a light snack, ending up going for the roast dinner which was exceptional - fantastic value for money, served super quick with a smile and delicious to boot! Will most definitely go back :-)

We have just had Sunday lunch there. It was a gammon Sunday roast. All fresh ingredients, not frozen. Will definitely be back as he expands the Sunday dinner choices.

Ordered two ultimate burgers when they arrived they were not as described no bacon,no cheese and no pulled pork very disappointed mentioned it to the waitress she said she would find out what had happened never saw her again before we left, won't go back in a hurry it's a shame because it's a great pub normally

I was invited to taste-test a new item to be added to the menu. I went with my family and we sat at a nice cosy table near some windows. The food came out and I could tell how tasty it was because my 11 year old put down his device and was concentrated on eating it! The food in question was pizza. The dough had the right amount of crispyness to soft Ness, the toppings mouthwatering and all arrived nice and hot. As you can see from the picture it was so good I had eaten it before even thinking of taking a picture! To be fair it was possibly the best pizza I've eaten in Banbury

Food was delicious. The vegetarian chilli was so good. Services was very attentive and they made a fuss of our beagle bum. Excellent value for money. Definitely will come back.

Visited today with my daughter, I had the steak and she had the curry. Cooked to perfection, would highly recommend the steak as it was beautifully cooked. Friendly staff, warm atmosphere, speedy service. Very good value for money!

We came here for Mother's Day, but on the day before. We booked a table as there were a few of us...9 in the end, there were empty tables, though. The menu is simple pub favourites. We all ordered a main, and most had pudding. I had the Cowboy Burger (bacon and cheese)...it was great! To follow, I had jam sponge and custard. It was ok... not amazing. We were very happy with the service and atmosphere. The prices were really good... just over £150 including drinks for 9 adults. Can't argue with that!

The food is disgusting. We went there Christmas day and couldn't eat most of it. We ended up getting a curry that night. Waste of money. Avoid

Food is amazing staff are friendly and brilliant. The landlord goes out if his way if you need anything.

Came here following my father's funeral recently. Place was very clean, food was great value and very tasty. Service was OK, although staff were a little distracted and sometimes hard to find although the pub wasn't busy.

The food was very nice. Gammon was soft and cooked perfect. ( I've found so many pubs serve hard, chewy, over dry gammon )

Had an hour to kill so popped in here for a beer. Ended up staying for 3 hours and having some lunch. I would suggest the chicken kebabs as they are amazing. Very good prices too.

Had a Sunday roast with all the trimmings. A lovely pub with a great atmosphere. I took the family after a day of shopping and we were served by friendly helpful staff. Food came promptly and hot and was delicious.

I regularly go to the Hanwell Arms with my Dad for a drink and we also get the menu deal which is burger and a pint, or steak and a pint, and always say how great the food is and such good value for money! If there was anything wrong with it, the staff are always willing to rectify the issue! 😊

Staff were excellent, Landlord friendly and polite on New Years Eve , Great music , vibrant atmosphere due to a healthy crowd . Hats off to all concerned at the pub .

We booked a table for 7 ppl to eat today (4 adults and 3 children). We ordered food which took an absolute age to arrive and they were not busy. The starters were ok but the mains were a huge disappointment 😞 2 of our party had the mixed grill and the steak was tough as old boots. 2 of us had the chicken and that was very dry. The chips just tasted of oil. 2 of the children had the Sunday roast and it looked anaemic with only one veg option - not a roast in my opinion. 1 child had the curry which was probably the best main of them all. 1 adult was driving so asked if they sold non-alcoholic fizz with which we were told, no. After we had finished eating, we ordered desserts and drinks. We asked for a decaf tea and an Irish coffee, but the bar staff looked like they'd been asked a question in a foreign language. The manager was standing next to us and he actually looked embarrassed that his staff didn't know what one was!! 😳 we will never eat here again.

Friendly staff and a good location for a family get together. The food was ok - the turkey dinner was pretty small and roast potatoes were cooked from frozen, but that definitely reflected in the price.

So I hate giving bad reviews but this needs addressing firstly service was great very friendly staff and very helpful and acomodating but the food was shocking came out cold as cold as my drink of Pepsi secondly I visit alot of food venues for roast dinners through the year and this was the worst especially as it was suppose to be a Christmas meal. it definitely was not! and the portion size was terrible I did also have a starter again was cold but was probally the only nice bit although not great. I for sure will not be visiting for food again definitely needs improvement picture has been added.

Only reason the food is a 1 star is because I have to give it something. Main course portion size was shocking, stone cold and no condiments. Missing half of roast no peas, no carrots, no Yorkshire puddings.

Excellent food, great service. We were part of a large group and were made to feel very welcomed by all the staff, including the kitchen staff. A warm welcome, fantastic food and superb setting. Who could have asked for more. Thank you

This was the first time in years after a really bad experience, and I said i would never go back. The wife suggested giving it another try, glad we did the sevice and food was excellent. Definitely be back.

Popped in for a drink on the way home from work. Pub was fairly and there was a band starting to play. This was totally different from my orrvois visit. I understand from the locals it's under new management since 2022. If you haven't been there since then give it a go you won't be disappointed as I wasn't.

My wife and I have just recently moved to hanwell fields. Last Friday night, we thought we would give our local a try. Well, i wish we hadn't bothered. We arrived at about 7:45pm. And there were literally like 8 people in there. 2 bar staff on to which one of them was sat on the bar with her coat on eating crisps while the other was on her phone. There was absolutely no atmosphere. I reckon there's more in a morgue! The tables were sticky, as were the menus. We had gone there to eat, but after seeing the chef, we decided to go to the local Indian. We had 1 drink and left. It's safe to say we won't be going back. We have been to quite a few marstons pubs and this is by far the worst. To have a pub right on our doorstep as well, and it is this bad. Wow

Quick visit for dinner, the place was fairly quiet at 6pm. The staff were friendly and the food was good, it's part of the Marstons Inn chain. We had a quick game of pool whilst there. There is free parking onsite.

Popped in as needed to pass an hour while I waited for an appointment. I wasn't disappointed. The bar person was really friendly and the atmosphere was pleasant too. I didn't have time to eat but food I saw looked great so I will return when I have more time to try a steak. Prices were reasonable too.

Was a brilliant host for our wake. Buffet was very nice, the bar staff were incredible and super friendly especially for someone’s first time in a pub. Pints poured brilliantly and a just a great pub all together thankyou for a great afternoon

Just had a beer.not my kind of place it's an average chain pub all the normal food bit shabby friendly enough but won't Go back only there because of the free parking for the night,we had fish and chips from across the car park very good loads an a good price recommend it

Very friendly, helpful staff. Dinner was lovely, couldn't fault any of it, also very good value for money especially for children's meals. Also would recommend for a Friday night out as been to discos and other entertainment and always had a good night :)

Notable improvement in food quality since we last went. The fries and chicken strips were perfectly cooked and the burger buns were fresh and soft. Unfortunately it was let down by some beef burger patties that honestly tasted like leather, can’t tell if they were over cooked or just incredibly cheap but would not recommend. That being said everything else was really nice and glad to see the recent improvements :)

Service was excellent but the portion sizes are awful small chicken breast about 10 chips and mini onion rings

Just moved to the estate and thought I'd try my new local. Although quiet(to be expected) I was greeted by a lovely lady, served a lovely Guinness and black and asked to choose a table. I found what I liked on the menu and ordered my starter and main. The soup was lovely and came with some nice bread and butter. The steak followed in no time and was cooked as requested, just perfect. I decided to have a pudding and my jam sponge with custard was fantastic. Needless to say, I'll be back to treat the kids soon. Great well presented venue with welcoming staff.

Food was good. Drinks were fine. Staff nice and friendly. Only problem was they were allowing kids to use it as a playground! They were literally running around the whole pub!

25 of us went to the Hanwell Arms last Sunday for a Christmas lunch. We had our own area which was greatly appreciated and was very well looked after by Phil, Billy and the team. We'd preordered due to our number and was able to order desserts on the day. Attentive service and nice food, would definitely go back for our yearly family lunch and recommend for a large group booking.

We have been to the Hanwell Arms a few times, it's where we choose to do our big family do's. The staff are friendly and helpful. The place is clean and beautifully decorated and the food is lovely. And to be quite honest they put up with a lot when we are there. Lol. Highly recommend x

Excellent staff night out food and service was brilliant. Phill and his team have obviously worked hard to start and turn this pub around. We chose it for ease of access and the reasonably priced menu. The food was delicious - a huge improvement on my previous visits. Excellent service we had a thoroughly enjoyable evening. I visited to try out their Sunday roast, which had been recommended. I ordered the half roast chicken, but what arrived was a dry chicken piece (not roasted). Also no stuffing as per the menu. Apparently they had run out of both, but rather than inform me and give me the option of ordering something else, they decided to just replace with an inferior item. No apology was offered. Another member of my party ordered the roast beef, which was described as rather grey. The deserts were underwhelming.

After seeing the worst this pub had descended to with being unhygienic and rude staff and unruly children running about I am pleased to rate this place better now since it’s under new management with polite staff and a good menu
