Although I live in Brampton I had no idea the shop/store stocks were so extensive, OK not as extensive as CoOp but adequate and lovely staff with fresh veg and wine is good - what more could a man want, great chicken and steaks from Colin Moore's and nice little shop in Halbankgate

Fab place, lovely staff, not a huge range but you will find something you like in the cafe. Shop and library too - such a gem, well done to all who keep it running.

We came as a family after a long walk only to find they stopped serving meals at 2pm which wan not mentioned on The Facebook page so it was a wasted journey for us. It would be helpful to say they stop serving at 2pm for walkers who like a later lunch

The cakes looked lovely but we were there for lunch. They happily made up a salad for me taking account of my allergy to sweet peppers. We bought some food from the freeze cabinets to cook for supper; there was a good range of produce, both local and not.

Only ordered a take away snack and it was as if the staff had absolutely no interest in us. Took over five minutes to actually come to the counter to take order and then twenty minutes to get the order. Sorry but it wasn’t very tasty either. Unless people are honest about feedback, there’s no point commenting.

I visited the Hub today and have to say I was well impressed. Excellent choice of food and cakes topped with very friendly staff. There is also a shop with a large range of local produce. Give it a try you won't be disappointed.

A lovely little local shop serving the community and run by a band if local volunteers. Has enough bits and pieces of you run out of things or if. You want to do a bigger shop. They also have art exhibitions and crafters wares to buy. They also have a library link and weekly post office counter. Cafe part has relaxing couches and serves good homemade foods , from cakes, traybakes, scones, salads, soups and more. They offer special days too. Biker friendly for those on 2 wheels in need of a pit stop.Worth a look if you want a pleasant change from the town......a little hidden gem.

On a road trip and happily found Hallbankgate Hub on my route. Popped in for a much needed coffee and snack. I ended up being seduced by their selection of home made cakes. Ended up eating in and getting some bits to take away for later in my journey. The cake was possibly the best, and most generous portion, I had all trip, and for coffee and cake it was certainly the best value for money, indeed the cheapest, I had in almost two weeks touring. The cafe section is just part of a local community shop and, I think, social centre. I imagine the staff were volunteers, and from those I observed on my visit some were clearly more competent than others although all were very friendly and did their best to be helpful. I get the impression it is a lifeline to villagers, just as it was to this traveller. I've logged it into my SatNav just in case I'm ever in the area again.

I've been to the hub a handful of times when visiting family and friends in Cumbria. It is a really lovely spot for lunch with a great selection of vegetarian and vegan options including daily specials and some incredible home-baked treats. It is run by volunteers who are always friendly and welcoming. You get a great sense of this being a social hub as there are always people 'bumping into' one another and chatting! The selection of groceries on offer is excellent including some really good ales, local produce and vegan-friendly toiletries at startlingly good prices! There also seem to be regular events (there was a spinning group in last time I visited and a workshop on decorative leather work the time before)! Definitely worth a visit if you're in the area, or even if you're just passing through!

The Hallbankgate hub is wonderful! There is a shop, cafe, library and post office all on site. There is parking available and I would highly recommend that you visit. The food is all freshly prepared and we actually visited purely because we'd heard of the vegan options including vegan cakes and scones!Extremely helpful, friendly staff and a lovely community spirit was evident.I just wish that more villages followed Hallbankgate's example. There are plenty of well signed walks and the RSPB nature reserve very close by so it would make a great family day out.

We love this wonderful place. Every visit is a true delight - the food is amazing because it is all home-made with love and care, the staff are wonderful and engage with all the customers and the atmosphere is unique. The last time we visited, the place was bouncing and we shared a table with two ladies who had been feeding fell ponies locally and make a habit of visiting the café when they have been doing this. Also a table full of chatty, friendly people spinning wool, knitting and nattering - including us in their conversations. It is a truly exceptional place and Tory (hope the spelling is correct) runs it with her volunteers and manages to keep cheerful and interested in customers despite being under pressure and cooking too! We live in Chester but visit whenever we can and really, really appreciate what all the hard workers do in the café,

What a good find. We always like these community cafes anyway as they have to work hard to make a go of it. This one was particularly good. Home made produce (cakes galore, beetroot soup, etc) all great after long walk. Staff very obliging and friendly. Tip Top. Don’t Starbucks/Costa, etc it ......... do a bit for the genuine one-offs.

We were all gathering for a family event and need to find a good place in the village to meet and coordinate. Lunch at the Hallbankgate Hub was the perfect spot. This is a little village shop and cafe, cooperatively owned and operated by the Hallbankgate community. We had generous helpings of home made soup, goat's cheese sandwiches and quiche. Those of us from elsewhere took advantage of buying postcards, home made jams and local produce. Torry, the manager and her mum and another colleague made this feel just like home.

Called in here to get some essentials for our holiday cottage and dinner. What a fab idea for the community to chip in and volunteer. Very friendly staff although we called in there again this morning around 9.30, there were delivery boxes outside the door, no lights on, no coffee machine on and no one in sight. Very odd!!!!
