Was recommended to visit here for dinner and I’m glad we did. Staff was really nice there was a man who looked in charge and he kept coming to ask if we was okay and if we needed anything and you could really have a conversation with him, nothing was a problem for him. The food was amazing and was quick to be brought out and was very hot. Only downside was how close the tables were in the bar area. Would definitely recommend this place.

This is the friendliest pub that I have stayed in whilst walking along the SW coastal footpath. The dinner menu offered a great choice and very good value-for-money. The pub restaurant was full but staff managed to make all customers feel that they were important. Excellent service.

Stayed for 2 night. Lovely pub and stayed for 2 nights. Accommodation clean , everything you need. Position was noisy early in the morning but beautiful location, and central to local pub nearby and very relaxing stay in Kingsand. Breakfast a little hit and miss but omelettes nice but do ask for toast. Breakfast tables were not set up. Evening meal we had and sea bass lovely and fish and chips nice. Unfortunately missed out booking but accommodated us. Watch out for the glass of wine £9.30 wow. Actual price for accommodation was good price. No worries for parking cheap council next to pub and very safe. Lovely stay , possibly be back. Bev and Ger

This evening we finished our stay at the Halfway House with dinner. A very enjoyable fare with great service. This is a very friendly pub/hotel. Make sure you get room 5! Our food this evening was exactly what we ordered and expected. By the way they also serve a very happy breakfast. The room is smart, very functional and well appointed for a country pub. A good resting place. Thank you Halfway House.

Popped in for lunch with my family as I was down visiting my parents for the week and decided on the Halfway Inn for our last lunch together. The food was beautiful, I went for soup of the day which was leek n potato soup and I have to say it was the tastiest leek n potato soup I’ve ever eaten. There was a lovely sharpness running through the soup which made it light. My Mum had a crab and lime mayo sandwich and Dad ordered cheese and chutney ciabatta which they thoroughly enjoyed too.

We had a great welcome from the landlord who made a fuss of our 1 year old granddaughter and kept talking to her as his own. . On our second visit we were greeted like old friends. This is a deservedly popular pub, with locals and visitors. The food is excellent and from our experience special requests are not regarded as a problem. everything is done to make you feel special. The beer is good too! It is on the boundary between Kingsand, Devon, and Cawsand, Cornwall, hence the name.

Visited here today with my daughter after we had driven around trying to think of somewhere different to go for lunch! We were on our way to Mount Edgcumbe when we were just about to pass the turning for Kingsand. I remembered that I had seen a good review of a pub in Kingsand and make a quick decision to turn off and go there! We parked in the car park - eek - (next time we will park outside of the village and walk in) and found this pub very quickly.Although not busy we were not put off as it had such a nice feel to it. We were not disappointed as our lunch of Boston beans with smoked bacon and a poached egg was amazing and both of us would have no hesitation in recommending it to everyone :) Other meals that we saw come out of the kitchen looked really nice too!We had a lovely lunchtime visit. Served by a lovely, friendly young lady.We will return for a roast as we were told that these are amazing :)

We popped in to see whether we could eat and if they allowed dogs. The tables were all full, so we said we would try later, but did not make a booking. When we returned half an hour later, they had saved a table for us anyway. The four of us had a scallops starter to share, then steak au poivre (x2), a sausage sandwich, gammon, egg and chips, treacle tart, affogato chocolate brownie with ice cream, and drank ale (x2), wine (x3) and soft drinks. It came to £80 - the same as we had paid for a very good but smaller meal a few miles away at a pub the previous day. All the meals were absolutely excellent, served by attentive and friendly staff. The barman/waiter also ordered us a cab, making sure that the company would allow a dog to travel (something we had not thought about!). We ate in the bar, which is clean, attractively decorated, light and pleasant. The dining area also looked very welcoming. The toilets were clean and well maintained. This is my first review on Trip Advisor. I have never been compelled to review somewhere before but was really knocked out by the experience here. I thoroughly recommend it.

A rather charming place in the centre of the village, right next to the car park. Nicely furnished out with really friendly staff. The lunches we had were superb, the fish was bigger than the plate and the plate was large, along with a plentiful Sunday roast. All at a very reasonable cost. A nice place to visit in the winter months, I would expect the place to be packed in the summer months with holiday makers.

After a dozen excellent meals while hiking towards Kingsand on the South West Coastal Path, the Halfway House was a distinct disappointment. While modernized, the restaurant layout is somewhat claustrophobic, the noise level high, and - surprisingly - the menu lacked any interesting fish dishes. Sure, there was fish and chips, but we had been treated to lots and lots of creative fish dishes along the Path.

Spotted this place as we walked past and grabbed an afternoon drink. We booked for an evening meal with friends. Lovely local pub with interesting menu. Friendly staff albeit, they seemed a little unaware of what things were off menu. Service was a little slow but apologies were offered. We had a coeliac member of our party and the manageress was more than helpful with dietary choices though it would have been helpful if the option were marked on the menu as it caused a little fuss. Food was presented beautifully and tastes great. Sadly a lot of our party fancied fish and chips from the menu but we were told that this was not available. Nor was the roast lamb. It was the second occasion in Cawsand we'd come across restaurants running out of food! Good choice of drinks overall. Would recommend but book as was busy!

Last visited this pub probably 12 years ago. Then it offered good food but the ambiance was nothing special, all the prints of sailing ships and an overall slightly tired feeling. What a transformation, new decor, very tastefully done eschewing completely the old 'seaside pub' look. Had the fish and chips which was superb, beautifully fresh with the lightest possible batter all done to perfection. Shame about the narrow lanes to get there but a truly excellent lunch.

The Sunday lunch was high quality food & very tasty - meat was tender, potatoes perfect & all served up with dishes of very hot steamed veg and a jug of extra gravy.A real plus point was that a full menu was on not just the roast. The evening meals are also excellent but not such value for money as portions are quite small considering the price but overall this pub/restaurant is superb. The decor is a light, airy, modern & seasidey but some of the original decor has been kept. The manager is a very pleasant fellow who always takes the time to have a chat & he is trying to woo the locals back - certainly seems like he is succeeding !Well done Halfway House!

Don't imagine that it is pleasant to take a seat outside the front door or even linger there while coming in or out. The noise of the blast from the kitchen extractor fan to the right is on a par with the afterburners on a fighter aircraft just before being catapulted from the deck of an aircraft carrier. Food here is pub average. Portions pricey for what you get. The character of the interior also seems to have had a recent colour wash. Entirely in line with almost every part of Kingsand where all has to be subtle shades of pale as if from the catalogue of a timid and over cautious bland interior design practice. I remember when Kingsand had more personality and marine rustic bravado. All that seems to have gone, particularly inside the Halfway House.

I like the refurbishment. You don't need a dark 'ye olde' look pub here. Although the houses are 18th century let's move on shall we? It'll take a while to settle down but definitely an improvement. Can't comment on previous food as we hadn't managed to eat here before, too strict on timings. This time we got booked in for the early evening slot. I think they try and stagger arrivals to not overwhelm the kitchen- there have been timing issues according to locals. We found the timings perfect, no sense of being rushed and plenty of time to chat between courses. The mussels were fresh and perfect, the fish pie not overly fussy and the elderflower jelly to die for. The arancini were pretty good although the larger portion not quite enough for a main course for a 14 year old. The wine list needs sorting out but the service was attentive and courteous. I'd return in a jiffy.

However the revamp has left it clinical and beige, not to my liking at all.Ate here at lunch time to give it a go but was very dissapointed by the size of the fish pie. This pub was taken over by new management earlier this year and has recently undergone a total revamp. It was re-opened in time for the local Gig weekend on the 25th July and it is now very bright, airy and has a much better layout than previously. I have yet to eat here as they have been totally booked since they re-opened however, I intend to try the food soon. There has been a new chef added to the staff making a total of two chefs now and the menu is in the process of change at the moment. Although I haven't yet had a meal here I did experience some of the homemade burgers that are being served up, during the opening night and first impressions is that they were excellent. Even the bread roll was homemade and cooked to order. There is a good selection of real ales and cider but my only disappointment was that the wine list has been replaced with a more modern selection of wines. I actually preferred the original list by that's just my preferences. The staff are always very friendly and helpful and are now getting back into the swing of things after a 9 week layoff due to the refurbishment. I look forward to eating there soon.

I have been to the Halfway House on many occasions. In all honesty, there have been times in the past where the food was nothing special and the atmosphere felt a little frost. However, we gave it another go on our visit to Kingsand last year, mainly for the reason that it is more traditional than the Devonport. We had fish and chips and, like one of the other reviews, it was very tasty. No sign of a microwaved meal in sight. Perhaps it's a case of sticking with the simpler meals! The prices are also very reasonable. In terms of the beer, there has always been a good range on tap. When we went in May last year, the pub still had that cosy charm, but it appears to have changed since then. I hope it hasn't, as it was always good to drop in for a drink on a rainy day!

There seem to be two entries for this place, so am leaving a review on both.We have been here several times and even stayed here a couple of years ago, but we were disappointed with our most recent visit as the place seems to have lost some of it's charm. The carpets have been removed leaving a horrid red tile floor - why not just go back to the flagstones if you're doing that? The food was mediocre - the steak pie's had clearly just been microwaved and one was decidedly luke warm in the middle - and the menu much more limited than on previous occasions. Such a shame as this was a proper, cosy "pubby" pub, but now just feels run down and tired - fingers crossed things will improve. ries for Halfway House on Tripadviser, so am leaving one on both.

Friendly looking pub and welcome with a smile. The pub was half empty as we were early for lunch. It could do with a bit more natural light in, as it looked slightly dark inside. Customers were a mixed of local and visitors to Cawsand. Not quite sure what I would have gone for but the menu looked inviting so thought why not give it a whirl. We had battered fish and chips with mushy peas and loin of pork. It came with seasonal vegetables and new potatoes. The fish was huge and had a lovely crispy batter on it.Tables could do with a bit more of a clean. There were some sticky parts when you lean forward with your arms. However, it's great that customers have newspapers to read while waiting for your lunch, not that it was a long wait.
