Lovely meal, very friendly owners, made to feel very welcome.

Our regular eating place. Great food with mains, specials, and desserts, and a good range of drinks. Best to book but we have chanced just dropping in and they have always been obliging. The Staff are always friendly and helpful. Good car parking and easy to find.

We met as a family group of 16 including 5 young children, booked in advance. We were given a separate dining area and made very welcome. The staff were very helpful with sorting out our orders, remembering who had ordered what in a very efficient way. We all enjoyed our food - main courses and deserts - good quality pub style food, freshly cooked with very good chips and wholesome fresh salads. A real treat - would happily return!

Food as always excellent & loads of it. Little upset that dogs are allowed to eat inside at side of table & that the manager strokes the dogs whilst he is still serving to other customers, and doesn't go & wash his hands. ☹

Great food and great service too

We found this dog friendly pub restaurant after multiple failed attempts to find a local cafe for lunch. The food was delicious and the service exceptional. It was exactly what we were looking for. Definitely recommend it.

We rang ahead and booked, was waiting on the phone for about 5 minutes while they were chatting amongst themselves. Once i booked we went in with 2 dogs, very rude staff on arrival looked up and said your table is there go and sit down. not customer service what so ever the older gentleman very rude and was glaring at us because , it felt like he didn't like dogs. No check back to see how our food was. Sunday roast was not the best, dry potatoes and just bland and no flavour. Would not recommend and will not be returning

Food is, and always has been very basic and cheaply made but very expensive for what you get. The ladies toilets were disgustingly filthy. Noe had cleaned them for months by the state of the stains in the pans and dust and cobwebs coating the doors. Stank of urine too. Urgh!

Ladies toilets were an absolute disgrace. Stank of urine, the toilet pans were filthy, not seen bleach or cleaner for months or even years. Dust and cobwebs all over cubicle door surfaces. Unbelievable. I wonder what hygiene rating they have with loos that disgusting? Presumably the staff use them too, and then prepare the food, but the food isn't great either.... so I would not bother going there for a meal.

We arrived at 2.50pm not knowing food only served to 3pm... A very pleasant lady served us. Not a problem, come in, sit down I'll get some menus! We had fish and chips which were some of the nicest I've had for a long time and chicken and leek pie with chips and peas. One word.... delicious. The pie was filled with lovely chunks of chicken. We only popped in on the off chance and we are so glad we did. Can't wait to go again.

Booked for a lunch time meal for a special birthday. Visited before booking to confirm if I could bring my dog in with me. Told that it was OK. On the day of the meal sat down with my small dog in the corner out of way of anyone else with the dog on the seat on my thick coat to protect the wooden seat. Was rudely spoken too by the Manager that dogs were not allowed on the seat even when I said that they were on a coat. So one spoilt meal, not very good anyway and very bombastic Manager.

Friendly well organised staff and very good bar manager ...classic pub grub at reasonable price ...set menu and specials on the board ...easy access from road and with lots of parking ... keep us well fed whilst we were working close by ....

Drove past after a visit to Trago. We sat in the bar area as we have a dog. All of the food was nice with generous portions. The ham was thickly cut and one of the party who only ever orders Hunters Chicken said it was the best he has ever had! The food was good value but we found the drinks were expensive. Would definitely go back though.

Always stop by here when in the area.Didnt eat this time just a drink.Friendly staff...Nice outdoor seating area overlooking greenery...set back off the main road.Plenty of parking with an overflow.

I love this place! We come here every time we visit my dad, I have to say they do THE best homemade chips ever! Friendly staff lovely atmosphere. Food is always great.

I had a sirloin steak. It was cooked how I like it - well done - and was very tasty. The pub was clean and the staff were welcoming and attentive.

We were in the area and spotted it on the map and decided to have lunch there. We were well looked after by the Manager Mark and his staff. What a lovely atmosphere. And oh my god the food was fantastic and so tasty. All lovely and hot and freshly made. And we even made room for dessert and the portions are so good. This is the best Halfway House in the area (was told there are more than one lol). Make time for a visit

Tha Halfway House was recommended by friends to have a meal there and we visited the HWH for Sunday lunch. It was delicious, the nut roast was very moist and tasty and recommended for all lovers of food generally. My husband had the turkey and he said it was also very moist and tasty. All the veg etc was cooked perfectly, no hard carrots or veg! The cauliflower cheese was served separately as my husband does not like it, this was not a problem for the staff at all. The food arrived hot and stayed hot to the end which is rare these days at some establishments. One other good point is that they served a smaller helping of the Sunday lunch, which was more than enough for anyone and we both felt quite full afterwards and could not manage a sweet but had a coffee instead. Again this was delicious and not too strong, perfect finish to a lovely meal. The staff were extremely friendly considering they were very busy and rushed off their feet. If you do decide to visit for a Sunday lunch I would advise to book as the HWH gets very busy which is a good sign that it is a popular eating house. Would highly recommend for a meal and will definitely be visiting again in the not too distant future.

Lovely welcoming staff and good pub food. Food was tasty and well presented. We would certainly eat here again and have no trouble in recommending it to others. There is plenty of seating inside and outside.

Called in for lunch after a trip to Trago. Fantastic! Lovely food, real chips that is such a rarity and gorgeous desserts. Really friendly welcoming staff will definitely return. Thankyou!

Great pub, in a nice location with lovely staff serving excellent meals.Generous portions and reasonable prices.we called here with our dogs and sat outside on a nice evening. I had the sirloin with homemade chips and the trimmings ,my steak was cooked to perfection ,medium rare, exactly how I like it, ordered a side salad to go with it and that too was very nice. My partner had the ham with eggs, homemade chips and salad with a side order of onion rings. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal and will definitely be returning!!

Popped in on the way home from Looe to our hotel. They were fully booked but still found a space for us which was very kind of them. The food was top notch and good value, I should know, I'm from Yorkshire! The staff were smashing, friendly, patient and very helpful. The decor was lovely and the music was ambient and not intrusive. It deseres 6/5 stars 🌟

This place is a gem. Proper pub food of real quality and generous portions. So glad we booked as it was very busy, but the service was excellent, timely, and very friendly. Can't wait to come this way again for another visit

We both had a roast, it was sooo nice, the staff was lovely and attentive. Food was hot and well cooked, couldn't have asked for better. Thank you will be back again.

Great food every visit, piping hot & very tasty. Good menu & specials choice & good range of vegetarian choices Good value for money. Never yet managed dessert as too full from main course. Going to try starter & dessert next time as they both look very tasty.

We are on Holiday and totally found this restaurant by chance. The service was amazing. I had chilli, I love chilli, but when eating out it is sometimes tasteless, sometimes to spicy. But this was the best chilli I have ever eaten. My daughter had Hunters Chicken and she wants to come back again to have it again. Also I recommend the Stawberry and Lime Cornish Ratler cider. We hope to be back this week. Thank you for making the end of our first day so enjoyable.

Stopped off for food on Are way back from St Ives Lovely food staff very friendly . My daughter was not well so they offered to wrap her food up so she could take it home ,which was very good of them .Nothing was to much trouble. Was are first time there but will definitely go back again .give them 5 STARS

Excellent food thoroughly enjoyed

Staff were pleasant enough. Food was mediocre at best, soggy chips and soggy batter on the fish which was pretty tasteless, peas were a mixture of fresh with earlier lunch ones added in for good measure. Toilets were something else altogether 🤢🤢🤢 the stench as you walk through to the ladies toilet was absolutely revolting! A mixture of mould (which was evident on the pipework in the toilets) and backed up sewage. If we had gone to the toilet before ordering food we wouldn't have stayed. The fact we were hungry and husband is diabetic and needed to eat was the only reason we ordered. We certainly wouldn't have had the food if we had been more aware of the facilities.

It was one of the best meal i have had for many years being an ex chef i am hard to please but this was exceptional i had ham eggs chips an garnish Paula had fish and chips peas home made tar tar sauce my ham was home made service brilliant we are going every month also had a fantastic desert for 20 pounds per head that included 2 halfs of larger

Staff were lovely, food was dreadful. Had to send my main course back as cold, was offered a different choice, which I accepted, this was tasteless, chicken korma and couldn’t eat! My husband had the fish which was over cooked. Expensive meal out for food which we struggled to eat.

Just popped in for an evening meal which was realy good food and plentiful.i thought I left my phone and purse at a holiday camp we came from but it was under the car seat.staff we very helpful for trying to get hold of the camp site .thank you 5 star service.no wander most of the tables were reserved..highly recommend you.thanks again

After passing several times I took the opportunity and called in the other day. A friendly welcome from the bar manager who explained they were fully booked for the evening so I’d advise booking in advance. I asked if we were ok to sit outside and he was more than happy for us to do so. The food was cooked to order and was great quality, the garlic bread with the lasagne wasn’t the best but other than that it was perfection. A special mention to the bar manager who went above and beyond and made our visit very pleasant.

First time eating at the halfway house. I had chilli, my husband had fish pie and fresh veg that were cooked to perfection. Staff were polite. Highly recommended

If you want fresh food, perfectly cooked, in a lovely setting, then go to Halfway House. The food is to die for, and the portions really are generous. The homemade chicken and bacon pie is delicious and the accompanying chips are some of the best restaurant chips I've ever tasted. Highly recommend.

We arrived as they opened on a Saturday and thankfully they had a table available! Every table was reserved. We had some eggs and chips for our girls, burgers for the adults. It was good food for good price, the girls were happy. It’s not the most amazing place we’ve visited but the prices are fair, food is good and the staff are so lovely. So we’re happy.

No empathy trying to organise a wake. Poor attitude, dietary requirements posed a problem to them, wouldn't even change oil to accommodate gf chips as only change oil every 3 days! Decided to go elsewhere.

Great hosts and very accommodating. food freshly made and all home cooked dishes. fish pie was full and tasty, fish and chips massive portion, kids meals as usual kids meals!! desserts were lovely. all quick to arrive and would recommend to others.

Had lunch with a friend last Friday and I am gluten free. I had the chicken breast topped with BBQ sauce, bacon and cheese with salad and boiled potatoes or I could have had a jacket potato. The chips were not suitable as done with other gluten things but I preferred the boiled potatoes as they were delicious.

We ate here on a Saturday evening with our two young children and a friend. We had burger, scampi, korma and a kid's ham, egg and chips. The food was above average apart from the chips, which were dark and soggy. We had a brownie sundae and crumble. The crumble was big and above average. The sundae was OK, but nothing special. The staff were friendly and suggested an extra plate and spoon for our youngest who was sharing our meals. Unfortunately the high chair was quite dirty. We would happily eat here again though.

Lovely staff and interior, but disappointing food - especially for the price. Ate with another diner who also had a very bland meal. Service is great, so I hope the owner will improve the quality of the food/ingredients as we would give it another chance in that case.

Nice waitressing and the food was. But it's quite dark inside and could do the being modernized.

A warm welcome greeted us by the staff. The menu and special board were inviting and gave a good variety for all tastes. The manager was friendly and entertaining and our food was delivered in a timely manner. Good portions, well cooked and presented. It was a very enjoyable visit and we all felt well looked after.

A++. We stopped off after our day out and were really impressed with the staff and definitely the food which was homemade and the chips were so nice. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED and will be coming back soon

Me and my family always go to Halfway House the food is delicious service great I've got nothing bad to say prices are fantastic also absolutely brilliant service all around and me personally and my family I would definitely recommend it and say with my family if you're looking for a good honest restaurant that sells good honest food and does nice drink then definitely go to the Halfway House Bodmin fantastic service fantastic place to dine. Compliments to chef and the staff that's serve and do a wonderful job.

Very disappointed with the food, the chips were limp and not crispy and lack of BBQ sauce and only half a chicken breast when it stated breast on menu which indicates it should have been a whole breast. service was good

Went in for snack lunch so had kids Sausage, chips & Peas ( nearly £8!): chips were soggy/ limp, Peas not cooked & Sausages very average!! The excuse given for the appalling chips was ' we've been having trouble with the Potatoes '!! I would suggest that you try cooking them properly, ditto Peas... I worked in the hospitality industry for many years & wouldn't dream of serving this rubbish to my customers!! Won't be back: no refund, just excuses...

Very nice pub restaurant on the busy A38. Lots of parking and good access too. Very good menu with the option of a daily specials board. Good food and brilliant service. Highly recommended. Beware it can get very busy at weekends and holiday periods.

I am very sad to write this, but after a few minutes of eating fish & chips a member of my family started to feel weird and two hours later thrown up. He ended up with 6 hours of vicious diarhea and vomiting. The rest of us had something else. Sadly, two days later another member who was cleaning up got ill too. I wish I have never entered this place. We are NEVER ill!

Have always driven past but decided today was the day to try this place out. Have to say pleasantly surprised. Lots of room inside although seating and decor are a bit cheap looking and the menu is a piece of laminated A4. However the food and service cannot be faulted. Very friendly, welcoming staff and deliciously meaty cottage pie and vegetables plus another generous sized lasagne with beautifully colourful and tasty side salad. Well worth stopping for.

What a gem. We stopped off for dinner on the way home from a day in St Ives and so glad we did. We received a very warm welcome and were shown to our table. The gentleman that served us was helpful and friendly. We were served quickly. Two of us had Bubble and Squeak and one had fish pie. Food came and it was piping hot and absolutely delicious, we all cleared our plates. I will definitely return and can highly recommend a visit.

Drove past and it looked nice from the road, so stopped to have lunch on our way to south Cornwall. Decor is dated and it feels abit like an old people’s diner. The food was ‘ok’ - but expensive for what it was. Very quiet for a Saturday lunchtime, so no atmosphere whatsoever. Wouldn’t come back.

We met , ironically half way between both couples (Truro and Plymouth) We had 2 chicken with sweet chili sauce , I steak and 1 ham and chips Service was spot on Food delicious Will definitely be visiting again

Couldn’t fault the service. Friendly, checked for any allergies, food and drink were brought out quickly and we weren’t bothered except to ask if we needed anything. The quality of the food didn’t live up to the price unfortunately. The roast potatoes were completely soft, no crispiness or colour at all. The beef was incredibly hard to chew even though it had been sliced wafer thin. I thought maybe this was an unlucky joint of meat but from the other reviews, it seems to be a common problem. The boiled vegetables were a bit bland but apart from the very hard cabbage, not too bad. On the plus side the Yorkshire pudding was perfect! We didn’t have a dessert, £7.50 seemed steep for a brownie! This wasn’t the reason though, we genuinely were full as the portion sizes were generous. The food also came out piping hot so no complaints there. With a few tweaks, some seasoning and better meat this place could be great.

Food took a while to come but boy was it worth the wait! It's honestly the best gammon steak I've ever tasted and the chips too were lovely. A sny assessment includes everything I can't give it 5 stars. The cost of drinks is quite steep (£3 for a coke is a little ridiculous given we all know it costs less than £1 to pull the pint). The toilets were also kind of shocking. One was out of use, the baby change was broken, they weren't that clear and they just looked like they'd been left to decay. My partner had even worse issues in the males which only had one stall which had a broken seat. The seats were quite uncomfortable and a little small but this is a minor gripe. Hopefully they'll invest some money in improving these in the future as the venue should reflect the great food offered.

Not enough choice on the menu food is very bland staff are polite but it's a public house and you shouldn't have to book a table just for a bar meal or drink

Had an office Xmas meal , staff really attentive and friendly and food was very good , portion size was excellent and very reasonably priced , would recommend
