I was picking up my car from a garage in Kirdford. to think my wife are bringing Me across I decided to stop at the half-moon pub to treat her to lunch as we approach the pub the front door appeared locked however there was no times of opening or closing or no menus we walked around the side to find people inside as we arrived towards the rear of the pub we presented with a beautiful garden and I noticed a rear patio door I opened the patio door and a man said what do you want? I said are you open? His reply was the front door is locked. What does that tell you. I found this to be extremely rude considering they are supposed to be serving the publicyoung lady came up to us and told us sorry sir we’re not opening until midday at this time. It was 1146 whilst the pub was closed. The man’s rudeness has made me realise I never need to visit this pub again. I’m not sure if he’s the owner of the worker chef or just someone in there, but I found his rudeness to be completely and utterly unacceptable on this occasion.

Beautiful old building in a lovely village. The friendly landlord kindly allowed us to park our campervan in the car park overnight. We enjoyed a meal in the pub - very reasonable prices indeed. Next day we had a good home cooked Sunday lunch. Our campervan developed a roof leak in pouring rain and the landlord allowed us to use his silicone to stop it. Thank you - that was so helpful.

Really gorgeous pub with genuine, feel-good vibes. Friendly hospitable barman this Sunday visit. Loads to look at around this establishment. Quirky and fun. I'm sure a lock-in would be the highlight of the month! Ample parking and clean WCs. Next time we'll try a meal.

Made a call to this pub through Brit Stops to stay in the car park overnight and a meal in the evening Made a short trip to Petworth then returned to the sun in the garden in the afternoon The pub is run by Keith and his granddaughter Keith cooked us an unbelievable homemade meal which was great value for money we sat and chatted to Keith and the locals till closing time The public house is the most enchanting place ever with the warmest of welcomes the ceilings are filled with treasures of the past which keep you guessing to what things might be .A truly magical trip to the past long May Keith keep it going a real traditional old school pub Keith I will bring my chainsaw with me next time to help out with the logs Thank you both so much for our stay

Beautiful unique old pub, lovely fire and full of memorabilia I could have spend a whole day looking around. We got a good meal for all four of us in a short time on the table. Great landlord, he is also the chef. Our pub of the year! Well worth a visit.

Unbelievable! A visit is a must! Pubs like this are hard to find and we can call ourselves lucky that we walked through it’s doors just a few days ago. The present landlord who has owned the Half Moon for the last 40 years intrigued us with the history of the pub which featured on Pathe News - Curiosity Pub (1959). Full of old memorabilia, we loved it and will definitely go back soon.

Lovely 500 year old pub. Easy going, just like pubs should be. We had a very good pork roast We sat talking to the very nice owner, & his beautiful doggie Rex, who was adorable. This is our second time here, we will come back again when we are passing.

Just like pubs used to be years ago with tons of character , lovely open fires, good beer, a familiar ‘cosy’ smell and an amazing collection of vintage and antique artefacts. An unpretentious pub just as pubs should be, without being spoilt by Muzak, gastro food and loud people! Friendly and welcoming landlord, cute dog, Rex, and pretty tortoiseshell cat. Visit this pub before it disappears! It’s a gem!

One of the joys of Sussex is its wealth of interesting, under-discovered country pubs. The Half Moon is a quirky, fascinating place from the old red tractor standing out the front to an interior that's like a museum of county life. My wife's steak pie was very good, and my veggie stir-fry excellent. It was quiet, but with plenty of atmosphere. The landlord and staff were chatty and interesting. They have dogs of their own, and it was a good place to take our own. This being within the South Downs National Park there are great walks and drives all around with the dramatic Black Down a couple of miles up the road. Will definitely go again.

The best pub in the area. Almost the only pub not trying to be a restaurant. I quite like the gastro pub concept but I like to go to a pub for a beer. I’ve been many many times and shall go again. Great beer, great company and great staff. I couldn’t ask for more.

£8 for a sandwich.. it was literally supermarket bread with a bit of ham in it, probably cost 50p to make along with some aged salad. I’m not against paying £8 for a sandwich if it’s full of filling and uses quality ingredients but this was neither! Avoid like the plague.

I ordered Fish and Chips because it's usually a safe pub lunch option. Not this time however.... The fish was overcooked and seemed more like pollok than cod. The chips we're also overcooked - especially the smaller ones. There were quite a lot of small chips.... The beer was excellent. The service very good. A roaring fire very welcoming on a cold day. Maybe I just chose the wrong option for lunch !

For a quiet village it's just as you would imagine, the locals where so very welcoming and the landlord is an interesting man with amazing tales of the village and the locals. Amienties are basic but very clean and comfortable.

Fab. Been before. Absolutely lovely. Good value. Food is excellent and large portions. Much better value than the more pretentious pubs in chiddingfold.

Quirky pub as we stopped for a quick drink and sandwich. The ham sandwich was ok but the salad accompaniment was far from fresh! Now I know that negative reviews often get a reaction suggesting complaining at the time so my wife did precisely that - she stated that she wasn’t impressed by salad that gone slimey. The response was “the one that got away”! Not the best response to a complaint!

We, my wife and I, stopped here by chance for lunch. The bar (walls and ceilings) are covered in many implements. We ordered food and drink. during our entire stay in the pub not a single other customer came in. In due course the food arrived: a ploughman's and a cheese and ham toastie. The toastie had a thick piece of ham, clearly hand carved, with tasty cheese. The ploughman's came with good bread and a large piece of cheese. Where it not for the place remaining empty we would rave about the place. However, I can thoroughly recommend the place

¡No vayas! !

We were greeted by the Half moon staff with a very warm welcome to all of us. The food was very good. Big portions for the money we paid. We would all recommend this unique museum like 15th century country pub.

Llegamos a las 13:00 h, hambrientos. Sólo estuvimos en el lugar. El anciano caballero nos sirvió. Él era muy agradable, no hablador. Pedimos comida.

Aweful service, visited with my sister for a quick lunch, took ages for our sandwiches to arrive, my hot chocolate was cold, plates/dishes left on tables - seemed to be plenty of people milling around in the kitchen, and that’s where they stayed. One person bringing food out, two behind the counter - no co-ordination. Queue to be served was ridiculous. Don’t think I’ll be visiting again.

Disappointing customer service does not come close to my experience in the East street store today. I had just had dental surgery and went in to buy a drink with a straw as I couldn’t move my mouth properly. The trainee barista a young lady was both incredibly rude and passive aggressive. She glared at me when I made my order and proceeded to bang the milk carton on the counter, throw the syrup angrily when I told her that she hadn’t given me the correct order. She angrily asked questions and when I couldn’t speak up due to not being able to open my mouth she repeated herself in a very unpleasant tone. I tried to tell her twice that I had just had dental surgery so that she knew I was not being unhelpful but she didn’t listen having decided that my drooping mouth was due to me being miserable and not because I couldn’t move it. She was passive aggressive in her every communication and made me feel uncomfortable and upset. It made me think if I had a permanent disability or issue with communication that I would never return to the store again. It should not be okay for a customer facing staff member thinks that it is okay to behave in this manner. As she is a trainee I hope that whoever trains her steps up and does a better job before people stop going to the store.
