We were here on Mothers Day for our Anniversary. It was packed out. All the staff were working their wotsits off but were smiling and helpful and nothing was too much trouble. A really lovely atmosphere. We were seated by an open door on a lovely sunny day. The flowers on the table were a lovely touch. We ordered the local cider and wine, both delicious. Oh then the food came and kept coming. Just like my Mum used to make. Delicious succulent pork and lamb. Cauliflower cheese, roasties, parsnip, greens, carrots, I could go on. Loads of veg cooked how it used to taste. Puddings were just as good. Our 1 hour journey was money well spent with wonderful scenery and on way back we kept talking about how good it was especially those roasties etc. We bought a couple of the award winning Tipsy Hen pies for our dinner tonight, can’t wait to try them. Thank you for our delicious anniversary lunch. Fran and Tony x

We called in for lunch, halfway around our walk which saw us covered in the notorious Hereford mud. Absolutely no problem to the staff, one of them said “we have to mop the floors anyway” All of the staff were very friendly, and we felt really welcomed. Our Sandwiches were excellent, food was hot, very tasty, and well priced. But, the real star is the cider. They are quite happy for you to taste as much as you like prior to buying. This place is a must visit if you are in the area.

Fabulous food and surroundings. Can’t fault the excellent service, which made this a special evening for the four of us. We had the 10oz rump steak, which was cooked to perfection, with great taste and the crispy belly pork which was very tasty. We ordered a side of vegetables, not that it’s required, but even this was a different level. I had to explain to my sons that this was what a carrot should taste like. The cider just enhanced the experience. We will be returning. Breakfast next time.

A brilliant find just outside Hereford. It is a working farm who have diversified. Greeted as soon as we arrived by friendly efficient staff. Food was amazing and good sized portions. Sweets were all home made. Highly recommended

We had been recommended by friends and were looking forward to a nice drive and a good lunch. Not their fault that there was power cut, however, when eventually the pie and vegetables finally arrived half an hour after we ordered, the entire pie was covered and swimming in thick gravy and any pastry that might have been firm was completely soggy ! Two rounds of large and elderly courgette, some very al dente carrots and broccoli and skin on chips were flaccid and cold. The actual flavour of the pies contents were good but why wouldn’t you serve the gravy in a jug or at least not drown the pastry? When we expressed our disappointment to the two perfectly pleasant staff re the lateness of serving and the coldness of the chips we were met with a blank look and “ well I told you it was going to be late?” Very disappointing.

Heard of this restaurant via word of mouth and it didn't disappoint. Lovely location; light, clean and spacious dining area and finally some comfortable seating! I enjoyed a succulent scampi (they very kindly did me a large salad to go with it instead of chips and peas due to my diabetes), while my boyfriend had the huge house burger (which he raved about all afternoon!) see photograph. Lovely friendly staff too, what more could you want?! We will definitely be going back.

We walked to Gwatkins and arrived feeling hungry. I am gluten intolerant, the waitress explained the menu choices and we asked if the fish and chips could be done without batter. This was no problem and the chef also provided a tasty butter sauce. The food was delicious and despite being very full we both had dessert, I can really recommend the Boston Cream pie. It’s a treat to have a choice when you are GF.

There was 5 of us. We noticed the pies have reduced in size but still as tasty as ever👍 staff were pleasant and requests , they were on the ball. Chips are fantastic. As for puddings didn’t really need they but the menu persuaded us. Until my husband spoke up and said, shame there’s no cheese board . We it went to the next level the staff - kitchen produced a cheese board off the cuff and my hubby was well happy . The staff obviously chatted and gave a cheese platter no biscuits but it was amazing. Credit to your staff

We were staying locally & Gwatkin Red Cow was recommended as a place to eat & also to sample their cider. We had a lovely Sunday lunch there, polite, friendly & attentive staff. Also recommended to have breakfast there, the Swiss breakfast was AMAZING!! Cider is pretty good too!! Although not with the breakfast of course 😉

We visited here just to pick up some cider and didn't realise it had a small restaurant attached to it. On the off chance we asked if they could fit us in and they were more than happy to find us a table The staff were very friendly and the food was delicious. The steak sandwich with mushrooms and very crispy onion rings was lovely and my husband had creamy garlic mushrooms on sourdough toast also really nice. Couldn't fault the food or service and my husband said the cider is pretty good too.

Visit on Saturday 15th April, Not as expected, food was very overcooked onion rings were solid and medium rare steak was heading towards well done. Ordered pudding, banoffee pie was served to me and then 5 mins later that came out and said the brownie my husband had ordered was no longer available did he want to chose something else he declined and then they charged us for it! I had to ask for the bill to be changed won’t be back.

Fantastic meal, and such a delight that the Stagg Inn, now reopened under a lovely, family team with a top chef, is now back to 'the Stagg' that my partner and I have known and loved for, well, getting on for 30 years. Halibut in a good strong lobster sauce served with samphire; local dry aged fillet steak done rare, exactly as requested, with peppercorn and thyme sauce, oyster mushroom, and great big fat crispy chips; starters were prawns marie rose in a tangy sauce, and scallopsnwitblack pudding, and garlic and herb butter. And, as if inheriting the old Stagg DNA, cointreau and nutmeg creme brulee and baked orange cheesecake as desserts. And local ale Butty Bach on tap. I very much regret to have read one or two unwarrantedly snarky recent reviews on this site, which is why I'm posting this one. Yes, their ebulliant staff member, a delightful and seriously accomplished young person, undertakes diligently her duties of ensuring that diners are happy with the service; which we were. Yes, the restaurant has been tastefully refurbished, ahead of reopening under this great new team. Is Actually, that is as one might expect. And finally, yes, they're not the cheapest, but that's because they're a seriously good restaurant with a Michelin star. And friendly too. Superb meal - well done, guys!
