Gurkha Royale Restaurant & Bar in Windsor and Maidenhead

Great food, friendly and attentive staff.

The restaurant mainly offers Nepalese and Indian food. There are also a few Japanese and Chinese dishes. In addition to butter chicken, we had two Nepalese curries, both with goat meat, although the Himalayan curry also had various vegetable side dishes. Overall, all the dishes were extremely tasty and the spices in the dishes in particular were very well balanced.

Wonderful food, service, and atmosphere. I highly recommend the vindaloo.

Be really mindful Of reviewers with only 1/2 reviews… Do not order on Uber Eats. We ordered delivery - tracking wasn’t utilised on the app so left waiting 20 minutes longer than expected latest time. Poppadoms with dips arrived with no dips. Butter chicken meat was pink inside a few larger pieces. Chow main was tasteless and super greasy. Chicken fried rice was also mega greasy. Peshwari naan was ok - texture of bread not light and crisp quite heavy . Rang twice to be assured of a refund - offered to drive over and return all food and they said no need. 4 days later and Uber eats say no refund is possible in line with their policy.

Lovely food and quick delivery!

Went there on Saturday night (Only the second night they opened) and had some wonderful food. I was warned as soon as I arrived that it was only their second night open and they may be a bit slow; but you know what the wait was worth it. The Chicken Liver Starter was absolutely fantastic. I followed the wonderful Starter with the Prawn Masala and an Egg Fried Rice. The vegetables garnished on the top of the Rice were so fresh they had just been cut and that together with the Peshwari Nan made for a great Main Course. The Eton Mess was my choice for Dessert but it took a long time to come out but again was well worth the wait. When I asked for my Bill I noticed the Eton Mess was not included; I was told that as I had such a long wait for it they wouldn't charge me for it! I will certainly be going back there very soon!

Nepali cuisine here is exceptional

Wow! The most exceptional food my family and I have tasted in a very long time! The team and service at the Gurkha Royal are fabulous, they helped guide us through some Nepalese dishes that we hadn’t tried before. The food is mouth-wateringly fresh! Each mouthful incredible and I can highly recommend the Momo’s and the Manchurian Cauliflower! We have been meaning to try out the Gurkha for some time now and can honestly say it exceeded our expectations on every level! We cannot wait to return!!!

In Windsor on business and came across this place on TripAdvisor. I’m visually impaired and asked for a light table - this was provided and had been thought about. The restaurant was really busy always a good sign and had a really good atmosphere. Both the Momos and Himalayan curry were totally delicious, full of rich flavour, well prepared and served with all trimmings, rice, veg, dhal and a roti. We were there with some new business colleagues whom all felt the same, amazing stuff guys and a lovely evening, thank you

I've recently been to The Gurkha with my family and I have to say that it is one of the best! We ordered Chicken Biriyani, Rogan Josh, and butter chicken. At the start, they gave us free poppadoms with raita, chutney and a small salad. The biriyani tasted great. Flavours were bold and well spiced. The Rogan josh was outstanding. It wasn't too spicy, which I liked and well balanced. Finally, the butter chicken, my personal favourite. It was creamy and aromatic, and the chicken was super tender and had a nice texture to it. Overall, it was a great Indian restaurant to dine in, whatever the occasion. Will definitely be visiting again

We went to as a group of 15 people for a birthday meal. We booked via phone and not required deposit for it. As we went in, everything was set up and welcomed us. They had poppadum and dips free of charge on the table. I ordered the meat and seafood royale platter, it came out sizzling hot. Also ordered a side of plain rice. The beef choila was tasty but a little dry and the fish cake (salmon) was salty! The chicken and sheesh kebab were nice. It came with grilled onions which was complimenting well. The Himalayan goat curry, had a nice presentation and came out like a thaali style with small dishes. However, rice could have come in a bigger portion. In the past, I have ordered mutton biryani, and was tasty but it felt more like a curried fried rice than a biryani. It came with a complimentary raita. Which was lovely. Ordered, pork sakuwa for starters, enjoyed it but very fatty as it was pork belly bites. Also ordered the creme brûlée, which I loved! The service from staff was good and friendly staff, however we had to remind them of the items they had forgotten to bring to the table. Downside of this place is the difficulty of finding parking. You have to find parking on side roads residential area.

This was our first visit to the Gurkha Royale. The food was wonderful. There were a range of dishes from a number of Asian countries but the core of the menu is Nepalese. Everything was brilliantly prepared and presented and very tasty. Would definitely recommend the Himalayan Curry Thali tray and the Gurkha Revenge goat curry which was spicy but not too much so flavoursome rather than searing.

Fantastic find whilst visiting Windsor for weekend. Booked online for Saturday evening as 7 of us. Food and service was amazing! Took doggie bags as very generous portions. Definitely recommend.

The team at the Gurkha Royale hosted a large table (13) for my son's 18th birthday celebration. The restaurant was extremely busy. They were well prepared, organised and made a real fuss over him. The food was DELICIOUS and there was something for everyone. They had decorated the table and gave him a cake. Outstanding service, food and atmosphere.

I'm not one to leave reviews. But feel I have too here. Just left on a Sunday night, service was spot on, food was amazing. Flavours, presentation and cuts of meat was stunning. Great menu with something for everyone!!

Hubby and myself had our valentines meal there last night. Lovely food and amazing staff. Their service was something else, and they knew when to approach. First time in a long time I have been able to relax and enjoy a meal. We will definitely be back. The lovely lady who served us, was superb (albanian) wish we got your name, thank you. Very disappointed by roti which came from a pack, not a tandoor! Disgusting taste and smell from those spoiled the experience. The curries were nice but the roti were awful. Not keen to go there again because of this.

This is the place we go to 2-3 times a month for a couple of years now…simply because everything that you’d expect from a good restaurant is there - food is superb, service is top level and ambience is lovely. I was never a big fan of curry but this place has become just so special to us. It’s not very central but so worth the visit. They do have limited parking in case you go by car.

Fabulous evening celebrating our wedding anniversary. The team were incredible, they decorated the table with heart confetti which was such a lovely thought. Everyone was friendly and helpful. The food was as always gorgeous. They then surprised us with a dessert to share with a candle. So thoughtful. All very genuine. The cocktails were incredible. Absolutely fantastic, curries packed full of flavour, great service and nice place for large groups. The menu has a wide selection. Highly recommended and I think I will make this my regular!

Absolutely love this place. Incredibly delicious food, generous portions, and impecable service. My favourite dish is the Nepalese GR Saag with lamb, also available with chicken, prawn, or paneer. It's a tasty spinach curry with a little spice, but not too hot. You will do well to finish a portion, but they will happily package up any leftovers for you to take home. Their Naan is unlike any naan I've had. It's quite thin and less doughy than traditional Indian naan. It is so tasty and comes in a variety of flavours. Lastly, the Steamed Chicken Momo (dumplings), also available vegetarian or lamb. The lamb overpowers the delicate dumpling a little in my opinion, but the vegetarian or chicken are sublime. I would highly recommend a visit. I've tried a few other dishes like the Himalayan Goat Curry and some of the Indian dishes such as Butter Chicken and Rogan Josh and they are all stellar. Every dish I have tried has been exceptional, and I've probably only tried 20% of the menu. Honestly, I was apprehensive before our first visit because I tend to avoid restaurants that have different cuisines (Oriental, Indian, and Nepalese). The old saying, "Jack of all trades, master of none) comes to mind, but this place is an exception. Lastly, the service is impecable. They are so friendly and professional. I couldn't wish for a better restaurant on my doorstep (10 minute walk).

I entered with a bit of skepticism, unsure of how the experience would turn out on my special occasion. However, I was pleasantly surprised by the cool and serene ambiance, which remained enjoyable even when the venue was fully occupied. I tried a few cocktails, both of which were excellent. The sizzling platter was well-prepared, with the prawns standing out as particularly delicious. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed the food and would highly recommend this place for both family gatherings and outings with friends.

This is the most visited restaurant in my life. The restaurants have many good things to offer including the quality of food and services. Staff make sure the quality is maintained throughout. Whenever you go and whatever you order, you will not be disappointed with the quality.

Decided to get away from the Legoland madness for dinner out and glad we visited this restaurant. Went as a three, with our 5 yr old and nothing was too much trouble. First off service was excellent and all staff genuinely lovely, which I think really adds to a place. Quality of food again was absolutely excellent and we enjoyed every mouthful. Sounds strange to say but my 5 yr old had the standard kids choice of chicken nuggets and chips but even that was on a different level, they looked and tasted handmade like they'd breadcrumbed them themselves, and so tasty. Finally atmosphere was great, with restaurant nicely busy and a good buzz (someone even had a birthday cake). Would definitely return if ever back in the area.

I recently tried this restaurant and was pleasantly surprised! The food is very good with rich, bold flavours, perfect for anyone who loves Indian cuisine, even if it may not be strictly traditional. The service was fast and smooth, especially for collection orders, which made the whole experience super convenient. They also offer free delivery on orders over £15, which is a nice bonus and feels reasonable. I’d definitely recommend it to anyone looking for tasty Indian food with reliable service.

We often go here to celebrate birthdays and always have a wonderful time. The staff really make an effort to make your visit special. And of course the food is amazing! The goat curry was as good as the reviews say. Try it!

Such an amazing place a must go. The momos and garlic naan were some of the best I've ever had. The atmosphere was relaxing and the staff were perfect. They were so friendly and welcoming. It was our daughters birthday and they went above and beyond to make her meal special.

Took the office team to this restaurant for an appreciation dinner, and we were all amazed by both the food and service. From the moment we stepped into the restaurant the service was top class, extremely attentive and generous in their recommendations of which dishes to take. The food was fantastic, and service staff could not do enough for us. Desserts were not ordered as we were full after the starters and mains. Would highly recommend, and will certainly return.

Gurkha Royale is an absolutely incredible restaurant bringing cuisines from Nepal, India, and China into a colourful and energetic venue. The wait staff are fantastic - taking time to explain dishes on the menu without even being asked to. Service was quick and personable. I was surprised to see such an extensive drinks menu, the cocktail options were expansive. Opting for my favourite cocktail, a caipirinha, I was completely blown away by how well made it was - having been to Portugal (the sister nation of Brazil) and had authentic Brazilian made ones - this caipirinha rivalled those. Incredible. The food itself was simply magnificent, generous portions and delicious ingredients. Having such an array of dishes to choose from is a trick that many restaurants miss out on by sticking to just one cuisine such as Indian or Chinese. There is a vast range of Nepalese, Indian, Chinese and Thai dishes to choose from here. And to top it off, the music they play here isn't the regular cheesy crap you get at most places - proper hits from Diana Ross to Stevie Wonder. 5* for Gurkha Royale. Thank you to both Mirjeta and Prayas (our main waiter). Such kind people and made the experience that much better. *to note - they don’t take tip on card here so if you want to reward the lovely team, please bring cash*.

Myself and my wife are massive Curry fans, and I can only we are absolutely gutted we don't live more locally because this would be a regular without a doubt! Whilst having a trip to Windsor just for a couple of days to see Castle etc we stumbled across this restaurant and it is absolutely delicious, would thoroughly recommend the goat curry, chicken wing starter, lamb momo and lamb meatball starters. Amazing quality, you must try if your visiting the area, nothing negative to say whatsoever, fantastic restaurant!

A beautiful Setting Run by the Most Delightful folk, with an atmosphere as idealic as the food they serve, which is more crafted than cooked. From the Oriental Treasures to the South Asian Fire Crackers they Craft it all. A must visit for any one in the locality, and a brilliant venue to spend a quite evening after a busy day at Legoland which is under 5 miles away. Thank you Guys, Each time we visit Windsor, this place we shall never miss, nor should you!

Best curry house In Windsor town with the topnotch service… served by Inku explains about all the dishes whatever we asked for very satisfyin… knows about what’s she’s serving… and all the allergens all the staffs were very humble and polite. Great food, you can tell there is a proper chef making the dishes and not just using the same sauce bases bought in bulk that other restaurants have seccumbed to. Also very flexible on making dishes vegan. Highly recommended.

What a gem! We needed an early dinner in this area and booked this place at almost no notice for our family of 3 (including 7yo child). The food was so delicious & service so hospitable. Others have mentioned the momo, & I can confirm that they are exactly as they should be! Yum

Finally visited this place, after it being on my list of must visit restaurants for a long time. We were greeted and welcomed nicely and we decided to seat outside, the service was quick, friendly and thoroughly professional. We ordered two portions of momos, cooked in two different ways, they had flavour but the quantity was low (4 pieces) and therefore not value for money. We also had the butter chicken, garlic and coriander naan and chicken fried rice, all of the dishes were delicious and had decent quantity for their prices. It's a nice little restaurant with good quality food and amazing service, keep it up!!!

Excellent resto for close to authentic Nepalese cuisine. Love the Choila and GOAT Curry Thali, Momos were OK, bit on the thicker side which I don't prefer. Tried the Nepalese craft beer - not my favourite one I am sorry.

We spend the day in legoland and wanted to go for a nice meal for my son’s birthday, rang probably 30 minutes before coming. They were so lovely to set the table with little birthday signs on the table, even bigger restaurants don’t do this so last minute so that surprised me, thank you again! The food came at a reasonable time, we were offered poppadoms which was nice. Food was lovely, price was very reasonable, kids menu was nice and quality ( not chicken nuggets and chips, thank God!) the lady serving us was lovely and patient with us. Honestly I was very pleased with my visit and would definitely come back if am in the area ! 💖

A lovely start to our holiday! Overnight in Windsor for an early flight from Heathrow and we were fortunate to stay a short walk from this amazing restaurant… great staff, great food all finished off with a lovely cocktail… highly recommended and worth heading out of the centre to visit!

Delish homecooked food, great service and atmospohere. We went there with a couple of freinds and had a truely delighful evening. I had the goat curry which has a lot of meat in. Had enough left to take home to eat the next day - even better!! Our waitress Mirjeta was brilliant as well as all the staff atcually!

As always The Gurkha delivered as expected. We are locals, it was my boyfriends birthday, 6 of us booked. Amazing food, staff are the nicest people not just staff, they are my friends now. So attentive. I come here twice a month as a local. AND as an Indian British Punjabi lady what more can I say! The food is THE BEST INDIAN fusion with Nepalese and abit of Thai. It’s just a gem! If you haven’t been, don’t waste your time in Windsor central with the tourist rubbish. This is the real deal peeps. And the prices are so reasonable you’re not getting robbed. Picked this restaurant up after reading the online reviews. We were not disappointed. On arrival, we were welcomed by Biplav (apologies if spelt incorrectly) who had the table booking sheet immediately to hand. He had a good sense of humour, but not in your face. He just got the engagement perfectly right. The restaurant was buzzing in a nice way, with everyone enjoying their nights out. The menu was extensive and offered lots of well-known dishes and many new ones. We selected a selection of dishes that we had eaten before at other establishments, giving us a good reference point to measure the food quality. We were also offered some suggestions which we embraced. I personally like restaurants where the chefs can see into the restaurant. This gave me a rare chance to talk with Head Chef Lama. What a nice guy. He is very skilled at his craft. All dishes were outstanding, fresh, flavoursome, and beautifully cooked. I concur, one of the best curries I've eaten living now in the area for over 12 years.

This place is a local for us, and so fortunate to have this place on our doorstep. We have never been dissapointed with the food, service or ambience. In fact, its 5 star all the way. We are a family of four, and ordered a lamb rogan josh, chicken biryiani, chicken jalfrezi, yoghurt, salad and garlic naans. Superb food, and plentiful. I always ask to omit the fresh green chillies, as the food is perfect as is. 10/10!!!!
