Fabulous Sunday lunch! Great value, delicious, couldn’t fault it. Two of us had chicken, the others had pork. Cauliflower cheese and pigs in blankets extra but really nice. Brilliant!!

Tried the Guest House with my Mum for lunch today, absolutely loved it. I had fish and chips and my mother had the lamb pie from the specials board. The food was very tasty and incredibly good value. I'd probably expect to pay a fiver more around Southport for something half as tasty. Gayle the landlady is a star, very accommodating and friendly. Looking forward to going back to try some more of the menu!

I found this pub on the "Real Ale Finder" app and given an opportunity to visit, I was not disappointed. The ale excellent and the food great value. The 2 ladies serving were both very helpful and friendly. The pub is traditional with some lovely period details and an extensive beer garden. A great find. Don't be misled by the name of the pub, it doesn't offer accommodation.

Have visited this pub many times before both to sample real ale but also on occasions the food menu. Today with my wife and two family friends we had a very disappointing attempt at trying to eat here. Around 1pm we placed an order for food and were told no pies were available and so we opted instead for scampi and sandwiches. At 1.30 pm the food had not arrived and the bar maid told me quite brusquely that they were very busy in the pub, no mention of the word sorry. I looked around the various rooms in the pub and there was no evidence to suggest that there were other people like us waiting for their food to be served. 1.45 arrived and the sandwiches turned up albeit one was not of he .type we ordered and with this observation the exasperated bar maid said alright then I will take the food away and give you a full refund, again with no sign of remorse. When we challenged the bar maid as to why someone behind us in the queue for ordering food at 1pm had already been served and finished their meal her response was we should not be poking our noses into other customers business. Give this place a wide berth if you are looking for a modicum of decent customer service and civility. At no stage was an apology given for the shortcomings we encountered, no attempt made to make us aware from the outset that there were delays in the kitchen on the day in question and the bar maid was very defensive and rude, and tried to make out we were troublemakers. No recompense offered at all for the way we had been treated.

Simply, great beer, great environment, great staff.I just sat for a bit and had two Real Ales - a Cross Bay Sunset and a Weetwood Cheshire Cat. Both were excellent. Price very reasonable. Service was friendly and efficient, Covid rules were in place but not over zealous. There was no canned "music", just a gentle bubble of pub chatter.Just superb.

My twin brother Stephen and I jumped the train down to Southport ⛱ were we planned to visit some of the great real ale pubs that are to be found in this coastal resort and one of the first pubs we went to was The Guest House Pub,a pub we always look forward to visiting. I love the look of this pub ,multi roomed,a traditional interior, a cute looking serving bar and plenty of seating options spread throughout this pub both inside and outside looking out onto the busy and bustling Union Street. We were here on a Friday early afternoon ,greeted warmly by a very pleasant member of the staff, we gave our details of name, phone number or email address to assist with the governments track and trace system and then sanitised our hands, we were led to a table were we ordered a real ale each,we chose Wychwood Brewery hobgoblin gold, this pale ale was served in excellent condition, we just kicked back, chilled out and planned out the day ahead while sipping our pale ale's. My pale ale was really good, a crisp, well balanced, full bodied pale ale, hints of toffee, a beautiful aroma, very easy to drink, a real ale style both myself and my twin brother Stephen are particularly fond of. These are the type of pubs I love, busy, nice staff, great real ales served in pristine condition, what more could you ask for. We really enjoyed our pale ale's in here and although our visit was only fleeting as on every other visit to here we had a great time. The Guest House Pub is easy to locate along Union Street. Opening hours are;Monday to Thursday, 11 30am till 11pm. Friday & Saturday, 11.30am till Midnight. Sunday, Midday till 10.30pm. A great pub,if your in the area most definitely well worth a visit .

The pub is just off lord street, conveniently located for shopping. I make sure I go there for lunch every time when I visit Southport The lunch menu is not big but every dish we tried has been consistently brilliant, my favourite is the chicken and mushroom pie. It is always served piping hot, with juicy chicken and moist mushrooms in a creamy sauce. The mash I ordered with the pie is properly creamy. Try it if you get chance and you will love it !!!

Try to pop in at least once a week for a couple of pints and usually something to eat. It's the kind of place you can go to read uninterupted if you're like me or have some friendly banter with the staff. Gail and Marilyn are a good double act and loom after their regulars. The food is a limited menu but benefits from this and is consistently good in terms of both quality and value. The pies in particular are fantastic, make sure to ask for played if you are in a rush as they are equal to a McDonald's apple pie in temperature.Great beers, though mostly of the pale persuasion, they do have dark ales and porters on occasion and are usually promised for the winter months. Can't go wrong with this place

The choice to not allow this if given to the bar tender...

I'm astounded how a public house with a food menu turns away a family as our son was only five but I saw at least two dogs without a lead enjoying the delights of this establishment, i visited on a hot Saturday lunchtime hoping to try the food with our son, i was immediately pounced on and sharply shown the door as "no children allowed in here" I witnessed at least two dogs freely strolling around, maybe the canines appreciate the delights of this place but humans are discouraged not sure why?And people ask why Wetherspoons is so successful? We stayed in Southport for Easter weekend and also to visit family who had recently re-located to the area. Having never been to Southport before I was quite shocked at how run down and old fashioned it was. Many of the local town pubs were just too ‘rough’ to enter and feel comfortable in. However we fortunately stumbled across this little gem, with friendly staff, a warm welcome and an open fire.

My husband and I decided to visit the guest house on a whim, as we have heard they offer a great selection of real ales. Upon arrival we were met with absolute silence and zero atmosphere. However we decided to stay as the bar staff were very welcoming and very polite. They recommended ales that my husband would enjoy. I myself had an overpriced glass of wine. We were made aware that the night we attended was the weekly quiz night. Whilst waiting for the quiz to begin, we witnessed who we though was a regular (turned out to be the host of the quiz) verbally discriminating two young girls waiting at the bar. I was shocked but felt it wasn't my place to comment.

We had decided to visit one of the oldest public houses in Southport last week. When we arrived, it was noticeable how quiet the tables where, with no body eating at the time. We ordered our drinks from a vert well stocked bar. But unfortunately asking are you serving food? We where met by the barman who gave us a menu but came back with the result. We have finished the lunch time food but we can do you something if you wish. We unfortunately declined the offer, as we would have had to order three different meals. The fact that it was only just 2.10pm we where slightly disappointed we where to miss out. Have to say, for a serious drinker, there was a marvellous display of various ales to be had. It would appear that it is a real ale pub, so a very good selection of draught beer and bottled beers. If you want a serious drink I think the Guest House would take some beating. We finished our drink and made our way out. So sorry not to of had lunch there.

The Guest House is a welcome exception to this as it exhudes a friendly and homely ambience. Nice range of beers, although bar meals and snacks are rather limited and unimaginative. Well worth a visit as an oasis in a desert of mediocrity and needless excess.

Been drinking in the Guest House for over 42 years. Says it all. Good selection of ale served properly. The place is always spotlessly clean.Free food/ snacks most nights and a limited menu at lunchtime. Always plenty of staff so no waiting to be served.

The Guest House is a sizeable traditional pub with multiple room. It always serves a large selection of real ales with an ever changing chalk board listing the latest offerings detailing Brewery, brew, ABV and price so you can select the beer to suit your mood and pocket. They also serve a good selection of food if you get peckish between pints.

My partner and I popped in to the guest house for a quick thirst quencher while shopping. A delightful little pub with friendly staff. We ended up ordering a homemade steak pie with peas and a side of chips each. Omg what fantastic value for money! A tasty hot lunch on a cold day in a friendly little pub with a lovely atmosphere.. thankyou

Didn't eat here - food is only served at lunchtimes however we went in both nights we were in Southport. The staff were very friendly and they sell an excellent range of hand drawn beers - which the other half enjoys. The one TV was showing the sport but without sound. I would definitely recommend this pub if you like beer and conversation.

This is one of the oldest Pubs in Southport and probably the best. The choice of beers is always changing but they also tend to stick to what sells best such as Old Peculiar which suits most of the regulars. The Staff are always helpful and advertise their beers on social media just to let people know whats on offer. It is an olde worlde pub with no juke box and a TV which is only on when someone wants to watch it and that is very rare. If you want a quiet pint or a good glass of wine I would recommend The Guest House to all.

This is a traditional British Pub and proud to be. There is a large selection of draught beers ( it's a local CAMRA pub) and the staff are knowledgable and pleasant. I frequent this pub often with friends and it's a joy not to be bombarded with sky Sports, loud music etc. it's a place where can friends can meet and do something very old fashioned --- talk to each other !! There are sometimes folk nights and quiz nights and the pub is very popular. If you are in town and just want to visit a decent pub with decent beer and traditional surroundings then look no further than the Guest House.

Food and staff good. Pub was overcrowded with extra chairs and tables meaning people couldn’t get into the seats of the empty tables as they were blocked by the people sitting behind them. Wetherspoons Southport looked dirty and unkempt, all 3 coffee machines didn’t work. The staff were polite efficient and pleasant and keep the place ticking over. If it wasn’t for them I wouldn’t go again. The owner makes lots of money and is treating his customers poorly . Outside the tables area was littered with stub ends of cigs why is he allowed to keep tables on the grass verges now covid is over?

Went here for breakfast, the tables where dirty/sticky. The staff member who served me wasn't very pleasant, all stood vaping behind the bar. The food was diabolical, really grim. Wouldn't recommend.
