I was meeting a friend and as she lives in maghull and suggested Costa I thought ok give them one more chance, I always go independent, and I should have insisted we went elsewhere. The man on the machine was so rude to the poor girl on the till as she just put the panini on the grill “open”. The queue was massive and they were under staffed, and unorganised. Please stick to independent coffee shops they need your custom more!

Quiet place off a main road good food selection a little messy tables needed cleaning.

Service very slow, staff are as far rom cheerful as you can get. The guy who served us was quite abrupt and unkempt.

But one ? Why so much for hot water?

Ordered 3 hot drinks and a frappe. Drinks were actually hot which you can't always say in a Costa. The two staff members knew what they were doing and were friendly enough. Plenty of seats available.

Good place to catch up with friends. Pretty spacious too.

Lovely Manager amd female staff however there is one male who works there who is completely off brand. Scruffy, dirty looking, unprofessional and rude as another review suggests. They must be desperate for staff as he has angered other customers I believe with his manner.

My mum visited Costa coffee when the place was near empty. She is 90 and uses a mobile scooter to get around as she is bad on her feet. Mum managed to go inside to get her drink then came outside whilst another lady who used a walking stick was being helped by one of the staff to carry her drink and cake out. Mum asked the same young lady if she would mind getting her a cake. Which she was happy to do, mum handed over the money. A minute later the member of staff returned and told mum she would havto go back inside to get her own cake...the shop was empty mind. The manager said she couldn't take the cake out for my mum...Really costa., you should be ashamed, where is the help and compassion for the elderly and disabled?.get a grip... my mum was very upset and didn't bother finishing her coffee. It spoilt her day out.

Busy at this time, but it was a Sunday morning, and the staff coped excellently.

Had a couple of coffees with some toast, all good plus it was a nice day so sat outside.

This costa used to be good when all the girls used to work there. However all the girls have left due to horrific management and disgusting leadership from this franchise. Both shop manager and area managers treat the staff in this shop awful and do not give them any thanks or appreciation. I’m glad all of the girls have moved on to much better jobs and are appreciated in their new work places. I’d recommend going to one central or the cabin as an alternative. Cheaper, independent businesses with lovely staff over expensive, greedy and bad service in this costa franchise

Service was a bit slow but very friendly

I had a hot chocolate and it was ok a bit of the weaker side ,the wife had a coffee which was very nice

Always come here and every time it is brilliant but I’ve just been in and asked to change my drink from an inside glass to a takeaway cup as this is what my girlfriend prefers and the man who works there with the short hair and earrings huffs, and then rolls his eyes. I tried to joke and say it was a silly thing to prefer which he didn’t even blink about and then put the cup down and walked away after he’d finished. Unprofessional and rude

One of the worst Costas in England. The staff have no idea what they're doing and the service there is nothing more than a joke. They force you to buy something from them only to use the toilet as it has a lock on it and they don't even care if you're having an emergency you're forced to buy a cup of ice with a spit of coffee or a dry cake. I would much rather get an affordable coffee from Home and Bargains at least they're quick and nice over there.

Drive through is very efficient in delivering the drinks and the staff are very nice

One of the slowest costas in regards to service, you'd think it was a busy city centre store. Stood waiting to be served for 10 mins so walked out as wasn't going to get a drink in time. The girl who was cleaning had walked to the entrance and saw there was a spilt hot chocolate all over the tiles. Instead of going to sort it straight away she decided to go behind the counter to get her drink for a minute then went brushing the floor. Another customer told the staff serving that it was a hazard but they said someone will sort it in a minute. Five minutes later nobody could be bothered so before I left told the staff again that it was on camera that your staff had seen it and walked away without doing anything so if anyone slips you will get sued. Hopefully the girl took notice

Usual Costa standards , relaxing , clean and roomy . Polite staff good parking and next to Maghull Square shops too so great little stop off 😊

Poor service, lacking in basics , couldnt care less either. No cutlery , napkins , toilet roll in loo, plates. But a big tips jar? What for?

It was busy, but I felt comfortable at the back of the shop.

Ordered coffees and toasted sandwich and told the girl I was sitting outside. 10 mins later no toastie and it was just left on the counter and gone cold. The girl said I shouted you! Reheated it and was awful so was made to buy another one! No apology. Awful cutomer service in Maghull today and it was empty so not too busy to check me out to give it to me! Aintree Costa so much better and they bring your food over to you.

Visited on a Sunday & was able to enjoy the outdoor seating and cold drinks in the sunshine. Staff really helpful & kept a good check on making sure customers did the track & trace which was reassuring. Will be visiting again soon.

Staff really friendly and helpful, coffee was amazing. Staff coped really well when delt with rude costumes when store was really busy. Staff have to put up with a lot with covid Gide lines and are doing everything they can. Really happy with are visit today happy to visit again.

Staff seem snotty and unorganised, if you ask them for sugar they look at you as if they've done you a massive favour

Rushed by staff members , we ordered coffee at 440pm and was told by staff they closed at five so when they started cleaning up around us felt a little rushed

We went for 1st time on Saturday, the restaurant has changed so much, chairs are so uncomfortable obviously to get u in and out ask quick as possible, air con blowing a Gale was freezing coffee cold cos of it Won’t be going there again

I visited here for a take out latté. The coffee was nice and milky, which was decent. I am surprised at the swathe of negative reviews on this site. People seem to be complaining about this place not being COVID-secure, even though I can assure you that the staff have taken all necessary steps to keep people safe. This place has a limited surface area, so I'm sure management have done their best with the space they have got to ensure social distancing. The staff were also friendly and efficient. They seemed very keen to advertise their Christmas blend coffee, or whatever it was. As a minor point of improvement, the staff could maybe have done a better job explaining what this was, as it just sounded like a glorified latté, except a bit more penny-pinching. However, it wasn't explained to me, in coherent terms, what it was. The only other negative I can think of is the front doors could have done with a lick of paint. But other than that, it's a pretty standard Costa, with good hot drinks, snacks and selection. Would recommend if passing!

I visited today, waited in the queue where the majority of others observed social distancing and face covering. A man swiftly followed me did not observe either face covering or my or others personal space while he constantly spoke loudly on his mobile, leaning over the glass cake counter. Undoubtedly speading his droplets of possible covid. I gestured to my server, who was apparently uncaring enough to notice or suggest he wear a mask and observe the rules of distancing or the fact he was probably spreading his droplets all over their counter.

No points why has the costa loyalty points scanner apparently not worked for months. This is not acceptable

Staff un-attentive and wearing masks under their chin whilst gossiping with each other. Nor are they asking Customers to wear masks. Most of the staff have complete disregard for the health & safety protocol. I have taken photographs of the staff in action however before posting have written to Costa HQ to give them a chance to respond. Sadly after 5 days they have not, displaying their leadership. Top-down, what can we expect. Tracing QR code doesn't work either to check-in. This place is a Covid disaster waiting to happen!

This Costa store is not the cleanest Costa you could go in. Before the “lock-down” it was dirty and lacking basic hygiene; the chairs are dirty and old, and if you can find one that doesn’t sink in the middle you’re very lucky. The toilets are always dirty, and the tables get a quick wipe once an hour, if that. I would have thought that during lock-down it would’ve had a “deep-clean” and the chairs would have been replaced by new ones. The place is a “midden” when it is compared to other Costas!! STEER CLEAR!!!

Food and drink lovely, but dirty and resembled a Creche with kids everywhere, one even riding a bike round.

Hi visited the store today with my daughter manager at door advising everyone to sit in as it’s half price which we did , took ages to get served as seemed to be only one young girl and one young man serving whilst the manager and another female just walked round aimlessly! Even though it was apparent that the 2 staff were struggling ! Eventually got to the front of que and was informed (as I was last week also ) they had no pink lemonade (on the hottest day of the year!) why does the shop advertise this refreshing drink for children and never have it !!! Will not be coming back ! Sorry and toilets were minging !

Staff friendly, hard working. I found it hard to watch the staff under so much pressure . This particular Costa is tired and in desperate need of refurbishment. Under staffed and needs blinds as in direct sunlight.Listen to your customers please !

We needed a coffee..so decided to visit. My partner went to the loo whilst I queued...for ages. He came back and as I hadn't been served and was no nearer the front of the queue, we decided to leave. However I went to the loo as well...absolutely disgusting, covered in excrement. Looked like it hadn't been cleaned for weeks. Really glad we didn't eat or drink here.

The Maghull branch is absolutely filthy, flies walk all over the food, staff do not have a clue and clearly clean nothing.

Service is always fast and friendly and the quality of the coffee is consistently good. But if you plan on sitting in it's usually pretty messy. Most tables are covered in old trays and everything is sticky.

The coffee and service is amazing however there is only one flaw which is that they can be too busy and there is some plates and whatever on the tables

Costa... You'd think one was pretty much like any other but it should be said that the staff here have always been efficient, polite and helpful. It's a convenient location with nearby parking and the coffee and cake is up to the usual Costa standard. It gets 5 stars for doing things right!

Living just around the corner from this coffee haven should make for a pleasant experience however, the queues are endless with very few staff to cope with and, the place is dirty.In fact, every costa I have attended, the toilets were filthy and smelly. I don't blame the staff in as much as, they are probably on pathetic pay which, they shouldn't be in light of the extortionate prices charged for the goods.My advice is to walk a little further eastway and grab as much coffee as you want for under £2, with no 15 minute waiting time, at the local wetherspoons.When I pass this costa now it makes me question the mentality of some folk who, are willing to endure such heartache for a coffee and an overpriced pastry... Lol!!! Good luck with that!!!

Lengthy queues, no crockery, no table clearing, paying sit in prices to drink from take away cups.

This Costa used to be a good place to go, it did have friendly staff and a welcoming atmosphere, but once Lauren left in the summer of 2019, the shop changed and will never be the friendly welcoming place it once was. It needs some competition and hopefully Starbucks or another coffee chain will invest in the area.

I found the coffee ok, but the place smelt and the tables were dirty with cups and bits of food left. The tables should be cleaned with disinfectant, and the floors. I found the smell made me want to leave.

Bit disappointing place looked a bit scruffy table we sat at food bits and paper all over the floor not very enticing.

Fly infestation...franchisors answer? Cut staff! The staff are wonderful and work their backsides off to keep kn top of poor infrastructure. Greedy franchisor spoiling experience.

This Costa franchise must do very well as it has virtually no competition but it seems to continue to struggle. Seems to be staffed by too few for such a large shop. Tables often not cleared, no tea pot lids and use of take away cups happens often.Just can't seem to get on top and stay there, it needs competition I feel otherwise it won't have the incentive to improve.

I was a regular customer of Costa Maghull, but will no longer be returning due to how my favourite member of staff was treated due to an incident that both my friend and I witnessed.

This place in Maghull square could do with a face lift didn't seem to be enough staff to stay on top of clearing tables ,but it has to be said it seems to be a popular meeting place for shoppers as it was quite busy.

Coffee is nice but place always seems to need a clean.
