My son and I had the 3 course Festive Menu last night (18th December) and it was fabulous ! It's his local pub and booked it as a treat, I'm so glad he did as its up there with the best Christmas menu food I've had. The Terrine was wonderful, not what I expected at all, home made piccalilli and salted sourdough made it perfect. Turkey dinner was huge and cooked to perfection and the Orange & Cinnamon Alaska was to die for ! As you can tell, I was impressed. Thank you to all the friendly, helpful staff.

Somewhat smaller than I imagined. Been by more times than I can count but decided to pop in for a swift one. There was no where proper to sit so sat at a table sort of in limbo. I had heard great things about this place. I was greatly disappointed. We had to wait for our food nearly 30 mins for 2 burgers and fries. The burgers were very greasy and very small, with a bit of bacon and a few chips. We had a large coke and a pint of lager too. This all cost about £36.

I don’t know what has happened but this place has really gone downhill. The skin on chips were clearly frozen and not what they used to be with the salt flakes sprinkled over. Chicken schnitzel came out burnt and it was rolled in so much herbs it was all I could taste. The dressed side salad was half a little gem lettuce with some sauce and crispy onions sprinkled over it. Not sure how the chef thought that constituted a salad… The place was so empty and has lost the charm it used to have. It feels more like a generic Greene King style pub (just more expensive) than the charm and high quality food it used to have. I won’t be coming back here and will he advising others to do the same. There is far better quality restaurants out there that actually provide the quality you pay for.

The establishment looked wonderful from outside with little play area, Dog friendly, places to Park, benches outside. As soon as you entered, there's hostility, you expect a happy cheerful welcome. It was far from that. We were asked 3 times within 8 minutes if we was ready to order. At the forth we gave in, to find out no Pizza on Sundays (no information saying they dont) No mixed grill on Sundays ( no clarity). Menus for Gluten Free was just highlighted menu... The steak was nice and cooked to request no quarrels. The drinks such as Coke had 100 ice cubes.. so the drink was 80%ice ...Great. Gluten free burger was a burger with two slices of toast, abit of a shame. Chicken skewers were fine, soft but cooked correctly. Salt and chilli chips could be better with slices of real chilli rather than seeds etc. Needs some attention to some details and could flourish further.

This was a very poor experience. We are vegetarian and options were limited. We ordered hummus (which was ok), side salad (consisting of cucumber and sliced lettuce covered in salad dressing) and halloumi cheese sticks which were more like door stops in batter 2 inches thick. We could hardly eat it but at over £20 our light lunch weighed heavy as a total waste of money. We will not return. 🦇

Absolutely no comunication and the waitress was very unhelpful. I have worked in catering 20 years plus and appreciate you don't know whats happening in the kitchen but felt very dissapointed with the (lack of) service. Will not be returning. Booked 2 days ago for a party of 9, surprised we was able to book for a Saturday night at short notice. We had been a couple of times in the past and had never been disappointed, and we was not this time. It is a lovely small country pub, with a welcoming feel, there is a large seating area outside mostly under a marquee and a nice big open field to the side. The food we could not fault, some of our party are big eaters, and although they always say the portions look small, it was enough to fill them up, it was cooked to satisfaction and there was not one complaint. The staff was very welcoming and polite, and the young gentleman that had just stared the job, did his very best at serving us. We would definitely book again.

Although not everyone was as impressed, my daughter ordered fish and chips and said she felt she got chips and batter bits as there was no fish in the batter... my mum had a burger that was overcooked and very dry, and my dad had a steak, which was also over cooked he asked for medium rare, and it was definitely well done! Firstly i would like to make a point that this moan is not a fault of the pub itself, the staff were brilliant, welcoming and friendly, the beer was delicious and cold, the pub was stunning as always. This review involves the prehistoric behaviour and disgusting attitude of the "classic" (must not be modern) car club, you arrive and because my vehicle is new, immediately are made to feel unwelcome, told you must park around the edges and that due to the place i parked last week ( the same place) they had received complaints that a modern car was parked with the "classics". Last night myself and 8 other friends attended, three of the cars are modern classics and ended up being lectured about their conduct before even doing anything wrong, then the club come around and photograph cars, but only the cars that they approve of, last nights pictures have no photos of the cars we came in apart from in the background. We are all car enthusiasts and quite frankly were disgusted by the way we were treated by the club stalwarts, unfortunately we will not be returning, this is a massive shame for the pub and the landlord as he has no input to how these dinosaurs behave. Between the 8 of us last night we spent well over £100 on food and drink in the venue and did the same the week before, we all will happily return on days the (must not be modern) classic car club is on. I have put a photo on so that you can see just how far away my car was parked so as not to offend the classic enthusiasts, i do however fail to see how i could possibly park any further away (mine is the silver dot in the top left corner) . Again i would like to apologise to the landlord and staff and point out that this is no fault of the venue, however i do feel that you have every right to know how people are being treated by the club that is using your premises.

This is the second time we've visited, the first time wasn't impressive, however we thought we would give it another chance. This time the service was good on an individual team member basis, however the lack of prices on drinks menus are always alarming to see (or not to see in this case). The food price has gone quite high and food was still very mediocre. The best thing seems to be the gammon steak. It appears to be dressed up as a gastro pub but struggles with the food part couple with the entire place smelt like bleach put a bit of a damper on things.

Just do not go save your money, really bad food really bad staff, the staff act like 10 year olds having a tantrum. One girl blonde with glasses was extremely rude when I complained about my food she ignored me and kep say hmm and k like I'm her dad telling her off, really unprofessional service and very bad food, apart from the burger that was very nice, chicken wing tasted out of date, the BBQ sauce tasted like sweet and sour and the onion rings wasn't even onion ring, they did take the rings back and ask to make another one but the chef put too much batter on so the onion wasn't cooked, I know the crack I used to be a chef and any chef knows not to drench the onion in the batter or it won't cook the inside. Very unprofessional!! One member of staff was very nice tho and that was the bar tender was a very lovely lady and poured a very nice glass of coke. The manager tried to be professional but needs to train her staff on how to speak and maintain their professionalism in the workplace. Save yourself and just avoid it at all costs.

It’s a lovely pub with a brilliant chef, the service was friendly but a bit clumsy, I asked for one of the starters which she came back and told me they had run out of, then I asked for an alternative and the same happened. Otherwise the service was so nice and friendly. The started I ended up with was king prawn cocktail which is a favorite, but to be honest it was a poor attempt. I only counted because it looked stingy but there were 8 small prawns so they were just under £1 each. I’m not sure if it’s just the presentation but it looked and felt very disappointing. Myself and my Husband met a friend here on 27th December 2023. We had three meals and desserts. I had fish & chips and there was hardly any fish, it was all batter. I asked for pouring cream with my crumble, they didn't have any. My Husband had a curry and he said it was awful, no sauce and the Naan bread was rock hard and no poppadom was given. The whole meal came to £90 with drinks. It certainly wasn't worth that amount. We have been other places that had done lovely home cooked food for less money. My companion was driving and it was great to see not only the good choice of 0% bottled beers and ciders (Moretti zero, Erdinger Blue and Old Mout) but also they have Heineken 0.0% on draft which is very rare. This pours and tastes much better, smoother with the fewer bubbles. I sampled 2 tasty golden ales which were well kept. There was Black Sheep bitter on offer as well. A very nice cosy sitting area near the old fireplace. I'm tempted to eat here next time, we did so many years ago before covid. Bur we will definitely visit more often for drinks now we can come with a Des driver knowing its not going to be the same boring zero beer all night. 🤙

Met some friends for Sunday dinner. Pub seemed lovely and so was really looking forward to it. Ended up being really disappointed. Our order was taken then 2 other waitresses asked for our order. I had the duo and chose beef and chicken. The chicken was a thigh which I wouldn’t have picked if I had known. The beef was so fatty and chewy I left 3/4 of it. There was barely any veg or mash and the veg was over cooked. The parsnips were shrivelled to nothing. We got cauliflower cheese even though we didn’t order so had to ask for it to be removed from the bill. The only nice bit was the Yorkshire pudding. Such a shame as they really could do well here. Also it was £16.50 which is so expensive and the portion was small! Not going to come here again.

Went a couple of beers with the wife, just after the reopening and ordered a pint of neck oil, which was extremely cloudy and bitter in taste. I left half a pint and complained to the bar staff to be told, there was nothing wrong with it as one member of staff had been drinking it all afternoon after his shift. We've not been back in since till today 20/08/23, which we've ordered 2 Sunday lunches. the beef was grey, fatty and either a terrible cut of beef or chef isn't up to his job. I had pork, which was actually pork belly, which I was advised it was fatty but this stuff was extremely fatty to the point there was hardly any meat in the slice. After a member of staff approached to see if our meals were OK, my wife complained about the dreadful cut of beef to be told she would have to go inside and talk to a manager, 5 minutes later the member of staff approachedus to say we could have a different meat but the experience put my wife off and she promptly refused. About another 5 minutes later a senior member of staff approached again to ask if the meals were OK, when we explained the dilemma we were told as long as a member of staff tried to resolve the issue it was fine and walked away...... As you can imagine, we'll be giving the Griffin's a wide birth and returning back to the horse and groom

Great local place where you can have a laugh with the staff, whether having a beer or a full menu. Staff put the customers first and treat them as people

Absolutely awful Sunday lunch, everything was clearly frozen products. Left nearly all of it, as did my mum. A real shame because this place used to do lovely food. Will not be going back.

40 minutes late when they were only four minutes down the road from me. For some reason the bread was really hard

I have been to many hotels, this is by far the worst. The check-in time is very limited, and they require a significant payment to let you through. If you don't bring it in cash, you will have to look for an ATM dragging your luggage, because they won't let you in even to leave your suitcases. Old hotel, poorly ventilated and smelly room, with a private bathroom, but outside the room, with a trickle of hot water in the shower, no hot water in the sink and a toilet that drains badly. Very few plugs, on the table of one of the beds there was not even a lamp or a plug. If you run out of toilet paper or soap, you will have to buy it at the supermarket, because they do not respond to replacement requests that they are supposed to make via phone messages. Be careful, they will penalize you for anything, such as leaving the latch closed, because it is a regrettable locking system that can leave the room locked when you leave. It seems advisable to record how the keys are deposited at the end of the stay in a "self check out" mailbox showing the departure time, because they may also charge you money from a deposit that they require upon entry. Very poor customer service, only a bad-faced character will appear if there is some money to be taken, zero concern for the guest's well-being. Non-existent services despite what the advertising says, it is nothing more than an old-fashioned mansion without the slightest customer service. I have to go to Nottingham many times for personal reasons, but I will never set foot in this joint.
