Griffin in South Gloucestershire

Take a punt on the Grumpy Griffin. It might be your lucky day but then again you might regret it. A mixed set of results from customers. Mine was negative. No real ale. Only a few peeps on Sunday mid-afternoon and one was drunk as a Lord and seemingly spoiling for trouble. Background music was fine. Quality tv showing a premiership game. Just cider, lager and Guinness on tap. Feels like a local pub where others are not made welcome.

Full of kids. Extremely noisy. Pee all over the floor in the loos and beer all over the floor by the bar.

Popped on for a pint & a game of pool, good atmosphere, polite & helpful staff.

Worst pub ever. More like a hostel with n Loads of chaos drinking beer . Don't take your mrs here! Food average, bad atmosphere, they sat us by pool table.

Haven't been to griffin for a while, thought pop in get brunch, but kitchen closed for second time as no chef, burger van in carpark??? Not stocked up, 😕 couldn't believe they've taken lots of seating out, and installed another pool table and darts board, obviously now trying to be sports bar, Not in right area for that, was better as family/dog friendly local pub, with food served...yes I had a not good experience with food on odd occasion, But was nice before the change now. How it is now, won't go back, lads pub

Booked for Sunday lunch and booking was confirmed , we arrived to be turned away by staff telling us no food kitchen closed , shocking!!!!!!!!

Watched the football midweek. Lovely service and nice atmosphere. Better range of ales would be nice, but the Tribute was a good pint.

Just popped in for a quick drink with friends and ended up staying the whole evening. James & Brooke were great. Will definitely be returning.

Well after a hectic christmas shopping day in Bath, my husband, three 16 year olds and I headed out of the city for food as it was manic! We tried three pub/restaurants on the way out via Wick, but we're either not serving till later, too full or just slightly dodgie! The we stumbled upon The Griffin in Warmley. What a friendly place, people chilling and chatting. Staff really friendly, accommodating and friendly. We ordered a variety of food and I'll be honest to say that we were all very pleasantly surprised at how really tasty and lovely the food was. I can't quite believe that we all cleared our plates. As this is rare. So just wanted to say a huge thank you to Ez for his amazing cooking and that how we really enjoyed the lovey meal we ate after a lovely day out. 😋

There’s 2 staff members that I would say are amazing I believe there names are James and brooke. Super helpful and extremely accommodating. Any questions you have they will take time to talk to you. The food is also amazing especially the pizza balls

Not happy I'm gluten free celiac and I told bar man he said all roast dinners was gluten free I'm very poorly after eating today very sick not happy wouldn't advise if got allergys!!!!

The kitchen was out of action so I had to go to the pub next door did have a pint before going elsewhere to eat

Visited The Griffin a few weeks ago, first time in a few years, and was extremely disappointed with the food. Whilst not anticipating top notch gastro pub food, we didn't expect a very substandard burger and a poor chick pea and spinach curry, the latter without any visible spinach, absolutely rubbish. A few years ago this place served pub grub at a reasonable price, but not now. Wetherspoons, whilst not Michelin quality cooking you can always get reasonable food at a very good price. Won't be going back to The Griffin.

Chars Sunday roast is amazing stayed the afternoon as karaoke with Chris on the evening. Lovely afternoon and evening. Friendly locals

Food was lovely, I had the fish and chips and the batter was so fluffy, my partner had gammon and again was cooked perfectly, prices are really good with the amount you get, would recommend trying

Amended from 4 to 5 stars. Visited today for lunch. All meals were well portioned, out in a reasonable time for those prepared in the kitchen. I had the carvery and couldn't fault it. Return visit 23.7.23. Retaining 5 stars. All staff were polite and courteous. The Carvery was excellent. We managed a dessert this time. Sticky toffee pud with custard was 👍 👌

I enjoyed my time at the griffin. Stones in the garden are nice. Today I have been pondering my recent evening there and decided itvwas splendid

Sunday carvery. Don’t bother!!The veg was horrible and rock hard. Very small selection of vegetables. The gravy was really watery! Frozen cauliflower, frozen broccoli, frozen green beans, the carrots tasted horrible.

Not such a good experience as on previous visits., obviously have changed hands! Very small menu of which I decided on fish n chips which came with peas. I ordered two slices of BREAD . My meal arrived promptly, nice and hot. My bread arrived disguised as two huge seeded burger rolls. I asked if I could have them changed for bread ,he said sorry but no we ain't got bread

I only tend to go there if the entertainment is worth seeing. The staff are lovely but 2 times I've been up there other customers have been doing drugs. Maybe I've just been unlucky perhaps

Sunday carvery is great value for money with a nice choice of veg. It's now our first choice for a Sunday roast, after being disappointed at a number of other local establishments

Popped in on way home, I had the gammon and it was so nice, all cooked really well, my friend who is slightly fussy made changes to her meal and all came out perfect, the lemon sponge was to die for. Would recommend this place, nothing to much bother for the staff

Came to Sunday lunch at the Griffin recently after not having been for many years.The lunch was absolutely lovely and really good value but the standout for me was the amazing staff. Nothing was too much trouble and the two landlady's and their staff were just a brilliant example of what,every pub wants in their team but not all achieve..warm friendly interested and funny. We didn't know anyone at the pub when we arrived and I rerely leave reviews but left knowing not only would we return but would warmly reccomend this venue .Thank you to everyone who made our lunch really special

Well that was the worst carvery I've ever had ! Partner actually got a refund for hers but I perceived the beef was full of fat and chewy hardly any veg and as for the potatoes you can't call them roast they weren't.they were actually swimming in oil in the dish .all in all disgusting I won't be returning.

OMG Heart attack waiting to happen roast potatoes were Swarming in oil could not call them roast more like potatoes in a oil asked if there was anymore cauliflower cheese the answer was no never going back rubbish I will add did not eat got my money back.

Love this pub! Great place to go and have a quiet coffee or a chat with the locals. Staff are friendly and land lady is on point. Attentive and always happy to catch up, provide a new drink it make amendments to food. The roast is super and very tasty. Amazing team! Keep it up guys.

Food here has been amazing, I have now made this my local due to how welcoming the pub is, keep up the good work guys. It’s such a comforting place and I’ve made friends with loads of the workers, big up the griffin!! Also nachos are top tier definitely recommended

The food was horrible. Burger tasted like a rustlers that somebody heated up about 3 hours ago and the sausage and mash was a joke. Barely recognisable as a sausage. Unfortunately i left my chainsaw at home on this occasion so had to struggle on. Once i cut through it got no better. Was actually starting to doubt weather it was a sausage or more recognisably the famous lump of coal from the Christmas carol. Don’t waist your money.

Probably one of the worst meals out ever! Sausage and mash was just two sausages and a handful of mash if that! The sausages were as though they had been cooked and then frozen and then re-cooked. Not edible and I left one of the two! I won't be returning here for food.

Called in on the off chance for food and what a friendy pub this is, food was really good for the price and the staff were lovely, would highly recommend.

Got there at 3.30pm and carvery was still available, didn’t book but the lady behind the bar made sure we got everything, we then decided to stay for football and then the was karaoke 😃 atmosphere was amazing and everyone was really friendly, highly recommend a Sunday night here.

People really lovely who run the pub and do the roasts. And the carvery is delicious and great Value for money. And if you get there at the end the lady will give you loads of meat for the dogs

Helpful staff, clean pleasant eating /social place. Food was reasonably priced and well presented, with good portions. Also a large car park with level access.

Enjoyed a lovely carvery meal for the whole family including kids and babies to celebrate my son's birthday. Really excellent value for money and they catered for gluten free like myself and grandson, we only missed out on Yorkshire puddings, stuffing and green beans, the cauliflower cheese was gluten free so really happy as I love that. Children Enjoyed their meals too. Will definitely be coming back.

This pub which had improved so much after its closure is now on the skids.I will be surprised if it is still here in a year's time.I called in for lunch none of the staff I had seen previously were still there and the new staff showed a distinct lack of interest in customers.I ordered Gammon from the tackiest menu I have ever seen which was very limited in choice.When it arrived it looked surprisingly appetizing.the egg looked well cooked as did the chips and in all fairness they were ok.But now the Gammon,it was so tough I could not cut it and could not chew it.I managed to attract the attention of the lady serving who had a wonderful suggestion to get me a "Sharper Knife"..I understand from staff that the pub chain who operate it is a local one who I have heard has a rather posh pub in Bath.I would suggest they cut their losses and sell up now or get their finger out and operate this establishment in a proper professional manner

I don’t visit very often for the reason I’ve give it such a low score. The lagers are always nasty and it’s as if no one care about this. Every time I do visit I look to see what other are drinking and even ask if it’s any good. I think the lives need refreshing or something as it proper nasty and get a terrible aftertaste.

Seriously, if I could give no star's I would. What a complete and utter disgrace this place is. Staf is completely clueless.The place was cold, dirty, seriously in need of painting, and the staff are pretty useless. Waited near an hour for our order which even after asking about it TWICE still nobody bothered to get back to us about it. In the end we asked for a refund too, which also became an issue as nobody knew what to do. It was near empty which explains a lot. Get some decent, trained staff, get a decent manager and clearly a chef is also needed. WILL NEVER SET FOOT IN THIS ABOMINATION AGAIN.

Errr... Family Christmas Dinner booked. They lost the booking and the food they did lay on was rubbish... Decor needs an overhaul and they need to get a decent cleaner... They didn't even have any Christmas decorations up and it was the 10th Dec!!...I'm honestly not that picky, but they need to get their act together.

Went today on a whim and was warmly welcomed by the front of house manager Kallie, who checked reservations and was able to promptly provide a table for us. Bar staff were polite and informative about drinks and food, we had the carvery which was cooked lovely. Meat tender, veggies good selection and seasoned well. Charlene the overall manager was very attentive to us and other customers and made sure we were served and taken care of properly. Good value for money and a great local atmosphere, would highly recommend. Thank you to all the team.

Amazing carvery, turnt up towards end of afternoon,food still fresh and lovely, not much meat left but as I only eat beef staff more than happy to put some aside for me as we weren’t ready to eat straight away, people were still coming in to eat, definitely come back staff very friendly and extremely accommodating

Made a reservation for a meal with friends. Been there in the past and food has always been ok. When we arrived the table had no cutlery or condiments. Ordered drinks and did not have any diet coke. There were also things on the menu that they didn't have but didn't tell us until we ordered. Not much choice of a menu for a Saturday evening. I had Hunter's chicken. Chicken was OK but presentation was awful with only about 10 chips on my plate with the cheapest shop bought coleslaw in a very small pot. For £13.95 I was expecting something a little nicer. Won't be using the Griffin pub again

We were looking forward to spending a nice Sunday lunch with family, couldn’t have been more wrong!! The worst Sunday Carvery I have ever been too!! The meat tasted processed, vegetables rock hard, stuffing inedible and gravy like water and all tasteless. As trip advisor...

The carvery was vile! Veg was rock hard, meat was like plastic and the gravy was like water. My daughter also had lasagne (if you could called it that!) I wouldn't wanna give it to my dog. Felt very poorly ran aswell. Never again.

Huge improvement on the previous incarnation of the Griffin. A lot of their beers were off but things are moving in the right direction.

Visit a few days ago. Haven't been for a while and was slightly disappointed at the menu. Ordered fish and chips and gammon and chips. Food arrived quickly. Disappointed at the condiments. Gammon not cooked enough with the fatty edge barely cooked. Chips still hard in the middle and as for the fish , still uncooked in the middle and not eatable. Didn't like to complain but did about the fish and was told that the fish is from the Mediterranean and was cooked. ( it was raw ) was told the chef would be out to see us but this didn't happen. Was offered a discount from our meal price and was handed £5 cash. I did get an apology too but very disappointed for a £15 meal.

After having a day out in Bath we were driving back and decided to stop off for a bite to eat, upon entering the pub we were greeted with a friendly smile and pleasant staff asked about food and they were doing a curry night but we wanted something more traditional, after looking at the menu I decided upon hunters chicken and my hubby had fish and chips and a side of onion rings. What can I say the fish just melted and was in a light batter which was so crispy as were the onion rings(and very large as well), my dish was tasty and the chips so chunky I could not eat them all. If ever I am down that way again I will be sure to eat here again.

Decent boozer in its day, however sadly lost its way a few years back after being took over by a corporate beast. Under recent new ownership it is certainly on the rise and hopefully will return to its former glory one day. Would’ve been 4* but needs a pool table, should be open on Mondays & pints are too expensive in the current crisis

The staff here are very helpful and friendly,the food is good,well cooked and good value for the money.A much nicer experience than before it was taken over.I have just today revisited the Griffin today and the standard of food and service is even better than my previous review Well done to Leanne and the staff.I will see you again soon and tell my friends how good the Griffin has become.

Came up today for a Sunday roast for my mum's Birthday, the roast was BEAUTIFUL veg and meat wonderfully cooked. And although busy one of the lovely ladies serving brought out a cake for my mum alone and sang with us to surprise her, all staff were lovely, thank you so much x
