Ruined birthday meal! Went for a Sunday lunch to celebrate a friends birthday after hearing the kitchen had been updated and the pubs owners posting pictures of their food online. My order of ‘Roast Beef served pink’. What did we get? A piece of beef that couldn’t even be cut due to how tough it was. We joked it would be easier to eat a flip flop. One of our guests needed to be hit of the back due to not being able to chew the meat and nearly chocked. We had to complain and 3 meals of beef had to be sent back. We replaced with gammon. Well; I couldn’t wait to tuck in to this! Well that would have to wait as the meat was completely raw! We checked and the gammon was still like rubber. They had literally put the meat in their cooker and only the top piece had cooked. Again we complained and this is where you could see the lack of customer service. We were told that they would only charge us children’s prices for our meals. These were the meals that we couldn’t eat!! We refused to pay for the inedible meals and their response was ‘if you don’t pay for the food you will be blacklisted’ when asked what it meant we were told ‘you won’t be able to book a table and eat here again’ Our response; oh dear, we won’t be able to come back and eat more of this raw food Not at any point did management try and rectify our experience. Absolutely awful and to finish I watched a staff member speaking about us to a couple sitting at the bar

They are serving food again. Thought I would give them another try after rocky start when they were taken over. Nice meal, well cooked and presented. Hopefully things will continue to improve.

Visited this place on Friday with family. Toilets were smelly and dirty, food overcooked onion rings in old oil vegetarian burger was inedible as mushroom was soaked in meat juices pie was really packed but pastry was way too thick. Don’t get me started on the wait and we were the only ones eating.

Had a nice 3 course meal with drinks.

Very quiet when we were there but a good range of ales. Only stopped for one on our way home.

Really quite poor. Went for Valentine's 'special'. One of the mains was unavailable not long after opening (it was not busy, 14 people inc us). Dirty shelves, tired decor, uninformed staff (couldn't pronounce the meals), damaged crockery. Very slow service (one damaged microwave). Gave the place another chance after last time, probably won't get another life now. If you just want a pint, ok. But don't expect quality food, such a shame for what was a great local pub.

Has the potential to be good but need the option to pre-order food from the set menu when booking as they ran out of steak on valentines day by 7pm. Waited 55 minutes for a starter and 1 hour 10 minutes for the glass of fizz. Not the type of person to kick up a fuss but the mushroom on toast starter was super tangy though my other half said the prawns and chorizo were beautiful. Vegan mushroom pie was also super tangy not sure what happened there but was super confusing even the pastry was strange… Pasta was disappointing, but would totally come back for the steak as plenty of people said how good it was but we seemed to have picked the wrong choices, staff super friendly though! Paid £70 for food and drinks for two of us to not enjoy it but hopefully be better next time🤞🏻

edited review as it was a very positive onr last time. ieaun did this place wonders! finally starting to be a decent pub again... but he has gone and once again the constant closures excuses the food will be be here soon every other day which well won't be as no chef. lack of ales all the time. dark hair women who looks like she doesnt want to be there...I get it's stressful but a smile or some sort of warmth would be nice. new bar girl katlyin is lovely though. Just so disappoint the village gem has slowly been destroyed by a company who have bought the pub

Thank goodness! Our favourite pub is back! Absolutely lovely new manager Ieuan, very very attentive to the customers what we would like to see, great selection of ales on! Was a rocky start for the new owners as seem to be swapping managers every few days but this one! He's a keeper! Even my 8yr old likes him and he is a fussy one!

The service isn’t really good we stood for 20 minutes before people and they got served before us even though we were there first. Other than that the food sounds great !!

I booked online for table of 3 for Sunday lunch. Apparently the online booking wasn't working but allowed us a table. It took an hour for the food to show up. There was no heating on and we sat in our coats. There was no crackling with the pork. Even though it was advertised as that. The small amount of mash potatoes on the plate tasted funny. The 2 roast pots were hard and dry. Gravy like water. The waitress was complaining that the new management didn’t know what they were doing and it showed. We thought we would give this place a go. As was under new management but really wished we hadn’t bothered. There were regulars eating who had been coming for years but said they would never come again. I reluctantly paid but I mentioned my concerns to the waitress who said she would ask the chef to come out. He didn’t!! Sorry but it’s the first and last time we will set foot in this place.

Would have liked the quiz to be same as before. And the bingo. Maybe next week, when the manager is in. 🤞

They do the best food. The homemade pie with proper chunky chips are the best. We come every month for a meal. Lovely friendly staff and cracking service. Highly recommended

Fabulous food. Good choice of beers, The food here is amazing, it's not fancy, it's not micro portions that cost a fortune. It's good quality, stacked high, pub food.

The pub smelt fusty. Food was not very nice. My vegetarian burger was all packed with sloppy food and the plate was very overwhelming packed with food so could not eat it.

They catered for 18 of us for my mums 85th birthday nothing was too much trouble and the food and staff were lovely we all enjoyed it

Visited the Grey Horses for lunch after a tractor driving experience in Blyth. We absolutely loved it, a proper pub. Loved the variety of beers esp the Welbeck. Everyone was super friendly & helpful & the Sunday lunch was delicious 🤤 Thank you.

Great food, service & atmosphere

Very disappointing.Been plenty of times and always commented to staff how nice it was (especially the pies ) but I’m afraid it’s going down hill. Booked in for Sunday lunch 11/02/2024 for 3pm.6 tables reserved so was told to sit behind pillar.3of us.I asked if we could move to a table for 4 has partner as problem with his legs .No they are reserved.Right , ordered our food .Salmon with dill sauce.Dearest on menu.small portion Roast dinner and steak and ale pie.Food was served 20 minutes later.The Salmon was unacceptable .It was 2 inches wide by 6 inches long. My daughter (25yrs) is not a big eater but come if it the fork with handle was bigger than it. Also about a teaspoon of dill sauce.My roast potato was burnt and the stuffing was has hard as nails. There was about a teaspoon of gravy over my dinner.My partners roast potatoes were burnt and the pie just wasn’t hot enough. We asked for more gravy ,Dill sauce and said about the salmon .40 minutes had passed and the other tables were free so we could have moved. What was also annoying was that a lady across ordered Salmon 30 minutes after us and wow it was 4 times bigger. So why serve a portion like that to my daughter it was just a plate of veg.To be honest we couldn’t wait to leave ,something wasn’t right. No smiles from the staff and the tables started filling up with regulars.Upon paying I had to mention (3 more times) the Salmon and the girl was rather abrupt.Far enough she did take the salmon off the bill but we have decided to spend our money somewhere else as most of all we didn’t feel welcome

Birthday party for 33 people. Food excellent. Friendly staff nothing too much trouble service excellent. Definitely recommend this place to eat.

Nice home made traditional pub grub. Have different beers etc. On tap. Always love coming here for food when back in the UK visiting family.

Great true village pub. Not flashy, but service, beers, food and welcoming atmosphere mean you are likely to return. Full of good people as well.

Great beers (3 or 4 real ale choices) mostly by Wellbeck Abbey, and excellent food. Friendly to visitors, and gets surprisingly busy in the tap room on weekday afternoons. Very large lounge if you want it quiet. Visited again in March 2023, everything above still true.

Disappointed. Meal not very warm and very small portions even after being told small portions were quite generous. This to our minds made meals very over priced!!!

Great pub with home cooked delicious Sunday dinner. Everyone is lovely and attentive. We always go there for family gathering.

Went for meal with my partner and our little dog , sat in Tap room , staff were very helpful and friendly I ordered the steak and ale pie chips and peas it was absolutely delicious the steak was so tender , afters I had a lemon lemon tart with cream delicious My partner ordered rump steak chips ,mushrooms. tomatoes and onion rings which was beautifully cooked and excellent quality 👌 If you want a tasty meal and home cooked food and sweets look no further than the Grey Horses Inn And of course value for money wand friendly staff

Had a really nice meal here today with my brother and his wife who had been here before. The meal was freshly cooked and reasonably priced. The young man who served us was very obliging and nothing was too much trouble. I will definitely visit again and I would recommend it to others.

Visited for a Christmas Dinner. It was warm, comfortable and welcoming. The food was excellent and plentiful. The staff were lovely and attentive. A lovely experience.

The pub is nice but small. It has a nice beer garden. The beer is really good. So are the staff. Food is ok. But i like my chicken soft. This is one of the best Sunday dinner. You can not get a better beef dinner.

Wonderful! Original real pub serving fantastic food and really good beer. That's obviously well looked after. Any pub serving Theakstons Peculiar on draught will always get my vote and the staff are amazing. Always so happy and obliging highly recommended

Really lovely friendly place. The food is delicious and very good value for money. Ash the bartender and waiter was super ensuring we had everything we needed. We will be dining here again for sure. - Prices have increased a fair bit but still a nice treat

Very friendly pub. They allowed me to bring my dog to a wake even though in that particular room dogs aren't allowed. I couldn't have a drink because I was driving but I could see they had a good range of beers on offer.

Great food, lovely garden and attentive friendly staff.

The garlic mushrooms are amazing, and the small dinner was fantastic too. And taking the dogs out for lunch is the best of all. Whether it's in the bar or outside in the beer garden. Will be going back again very soon. One thing they could do is a water bowl for dogs and maybe a menu for dogs? Take a look at the Rose Cottage they provide a menu albeit small for doggies which would bring in another revenue stream for the business

Very good home produced food my favourite is steak and Stilton pie or indeed any of the steak pie variants. Range of great beers , changed regularly My recent favourites have been Wainwright's and Welbeck brewery Burning Firedog , better than Murphys

Staff very pleasant and chatty,we ordered food from the simple pub menu but when it arrived it was anything but simple. Puddings were very tasty,jam sponge with the best custard I've eaten in a while just topped it off perfectly.

over charged order 1 adult meal at £10.95 of scampi 2 child meals gousions £6.95 each meal should have been £24.85 drinks 1 coke 1 non alcoholic beer 1 orange juice and lemon aid with a dash of lime total cost charged was £32.00 means the drinks was £7.15 for soft drinks as no alcohol consumed. not impressed with being overcharged.

It feels different in many pubs due to Covid restrictions but this one has managed to make you feel safe and welcome at the same time which is very important to me. Plenty of informative signs everywhere and sanitising stations, tables are well distanced, room to move round without passing too close to people and easy to use facilities one in one out.The food is excellent, always great quality and they are very accommodating to customer needs so if you want or need something specific just ask. The menu hasn't decreased like in many pubs which is a real bonus because there's plenty of choice. My favourites are cajun chicken salad (nice and fresh ingredients) or ham chips n egg, not to mention the chicken in stilton and mushroom sauce which is out of this world! Good choice of drinks, plenty of different gins or real ales whatever your tipple. The staff are always very friendly and polite, nothing is too much trouble and they're a credit to the pub with their smiling faces!Good to see local traditional pubs like this one surviving despite these challenging times, I intend to continue supporting them and others alike, while ever they keep providing first class food and service.
