I found the green cow kitchen @ Crumplebury very underwhelming and the experience is highly missold. Firstly, the concept of calling it a chefs table when in reality you’re being sat in a large room on a long table with about 20 other guests was a big shock. There was no personal experience nor were the dishes introduced over the sound of other guests on the table. I’d like to bring you attention to the definition of a chefs table: A table located in the kitchen of a restaurant, reserved for special guests and allowing them to see the chef at work and sometimes to be served a tasting menu. I’ve experienced some great restaurants and when you read what you may experience from a particular restaurant you do normally experience exactly that. In this case I feel like it is very much over compensated with the wording online. The food was genuinely sub standard. The courses didn’t seem anything special, the flavour selections were interesting. Nothing wowed me about the food, drinks or service. I had some conversations with the guests that were also awfully disappointed, however, they did say they have had better experiences there at Crumplebury in the past. One positive about the experience is that the grounds of Crumplebury are nice, on a farm and very nicely lit at night.

The Drinking Trough proclaims to offer a more casual dining experience (farm to table) to its more well established Chefs Table fixed price menu 'Green Cow' kitchen. Despite having mediocre main meals, cauliflower steak under cooked, a pitiful amount of mash & apple sauce with my pork steak, it was redeemed slightly by a nice simple starter (no cooking involved!) and sumptuous desserts, and first class service from the staff. We left feeling somewhat underwhelmed...to quote "Food, its all about the food" on their website, that was average and stingy in quantity, not good value and not what I'd call casual dining. What is amazing is the country setting, the immaculate (lavish new building & dining area), the journey down that winding country lane and the sense of trepidation as you park up literally in the middle of nowhere and being greeted at the door with a smile. We are foodies, I dont really care if I'm eating in a cow shed or a Michelin star restaurant, it has to be about the food (a large part of it) that would entice us back & sadly that was the important bit we felt let down by.

Our first visit did not disappoint, having been recommended to go for Sunday Lunch. The location is really out in the country with stunning views all around. Lunch was exceptional. New season asparagus to start, was deliciously served with an egg and hollandaise. The sharing board of roasts was generous and a really innovative way of serving, for me. The ragu was outstanding and the meat was cooked so well. We shared deserts, as a group, and the conclusion was that we could have eaten all of them! Service was friendly, prompt without being rushed, in any way, and the place was full! We'll be back.

Saturday evening we had an incredible meal at the chefs table at the Green Cow Kitchen. The staff were brilliant and so kind, welcoming and accommodating. I had to alter the reservation a couple of times which was never an issue. They were also so kind accommodating diary requests. I am not a fan of lamb so they very kindly produced the most incredible beef dish as a replacement for the lamb course. So very kind of them. All the food served was lovely and the place itself has a warm family feel. The chefs table was great experiance and the other people there were lovely. A great evening was had and it made a lovely belated Christmas present for my boyfriend who is a foodie. The chef was lovely and talked us through the courses served. He was clearly passionate about food which added to the experiance. All staff with friendly and so kind. I will defiantly be visiting again and I would highly recommend trying the chef table.

We were lucky enough to be part of the launch of the chef’s table series; I can’t recommend this enough. Inventive and delicious food, excellent wines and insights from the very engaging chef made this an evening to remember. We’ve been coming to GCK for 10 years and this is what they do at its very best; warm, welcoming and really first class food and drink, with the kind of great service that anticipates your needs without intruding. Try it - you’ll love it.

Mothers Day Afternoon Tea, the sandwiches were delicious and the puddings a delight! We have been to Green Cow Kitchens and are now looking forward to visiting The Drinking Trough. Every time we visit this place something different seems to be going on, and what a lovely surprise, a live harpist whilst eating our Afternoon Tea. The staff and owner very attentive and pleasant, not pretentious at all which is a nice surprise, sometimes these types of places can be slightly snobby, but it came off very well indeed. We shall be back again and again!

Nestled in stunning farmland, well signposted and plenty of good parking. The buildings and fixtures are top of the range with cutting edge design that is sympathetic to the surroundings. In the gorgeous “Drinking Trough” restaurant, we were warmly welcomed and served fabulous food and drink from a small, but perfectly formed menu. This would be a wonderful event venue and we can’t wait to return with friends and family later in the year for the outdoor grill and music. Really classy venue.

Important part, food was amazing. The staff were fantastic and the manageress was attentive and super friendly (we do wish we took you up on that bottle of water as the walk home was a killer in the heat, we did get lost). Only criticism, food was very good but the wines prices fairly high..£28 for a entry bottle of wine (in my opinion average at best). certainly will book again next time we are in the area as the food and overall experience very pleasant.

Off the main road, you drive down an ever decreasing track until you get to the restaurant/venue complex deep in Hereford countryside. There are a range of newer and older buildings which at first glance are unprepossessing. We were met outside by the owner (perhaps) and shown to our table in the small but pleasant restaurant. Staff are attentive and well trained. We had the 6 course tasting menu which turned out to be 8 courses. The courses are small but I was pleasantly replete at the finish. Each course is served to all diners at the same time. The down side of a tasting menu is of course you don't chose the food. I was happy to eat every course but inevitably I enjoyed some more than others. Presentation is as you would expect, exceptional and the amuse bouche was pretty as a picture. The asparagus course was delicious. It came with home made mayonnaise which had been brushed with blackened, Hay (me neither!) plus a very subtle "salsa". The steamed cod being pure white did not look or, of itself taste great but it came with a vivid and delicious veloute of peas, beans and chorizo which gave it all the taste it needed. The spiced lamb dish was to die for. It was however a pity that the lamb portion, inevitably small, had not therefore been fully trimmed of fat and oddly, the fondant potato was really hard and undercooked. Great flavours and looked good though. The cheese course for me was disappointing. There was a small piece of Baron Bigod with a "crumpet", honey and truffle shavings but the cheese tasted like an ordinary Camembert and was very salty. The meal finished with two puddings one of which had a rather clever sugar crisp thing on the top. The drinks menu is sensibly priced (take note Mr Marco Pierre White). I enjoyed the evening but I was wondering what exactly I was expecting. Do you go to a place like this for the provenance or quality of the food, to taste different flavours, the cooking skills, the presentation, the service, the bragging rights or just because you can? I'm not sure.

Very last minute on good Friday managed to get a table Great set up here all tables to arrive at the same time S it’s a set menu (altered for vegetarians) As expected beautifully presented Exquisite flavours Obviously tinny portions as it’s a tasting menu But at the end we did feel full and couldn’t manage all of our 3 Puddings. Lovely atmosphere all couples No music Don’t sit near the entrance door as they left it open there was a draft we did ask for it to be closed or move us They did close it for about 10 mins only 🥲 so I wasn’t comfortable. They have improved the car park plenty of space long single lane tract to the farm. We was greeted at the car park which was special and shown to our table. We will Return with some foodie friends.

Left feeling somewhat disappointed and a little hungry to be honest. Preferred the previous bistro menu and as l recall bills arriving without 10% automatically added for tips. Dining is in part about feeling as if you have eaten well but lm sure this shouldn’t come as a shock if you’ve spent £130 plus on a meal for two plus gratuities. Lovely setting in rural Herefordshire.

We visited The Green Cow recently for Sunday lunch and having eaten there before we had high expectations but were sadly totally underwhelmed. We had recommended The Green Cow to our friends who joined us for Sunday Lunch. We had reasonably expected that lunch on a farm that boasts of its local produce would include at least one traditional roast meat dish. Unfortunately the meat options were beef cheek or shredded lamb shoulder both of which did not appeal. Three of our party went with the fish main course whilst I did go for the lamb. This turned out to be a plate of luke warm shredded meat accompanied by luke warm tasteless mash potatoes and a tiny portion of vegetables. The meal sizes were so small we all waited after our dishes were presented to see if there would be sides of vegetables. Sadly not! The starter courses were tasty but miniscule and we were all still hungry after leaving the restaurant. I felt embarrassed as I had persuaded our friends to join us and to add insult to injury the cost of the 2 course lunch was £30 per head plus 12.5% service charge . Had we not have been with our friends I would certainly have made my feelings known but as it is we paid the exorbitant bill and left. We wont be returning.

Thank you to the Evans’ & the whole team at Green Cow Kitchens (+ Crumplebury next door) for a truly exceptional long weekend stay. From start to finish nothing was too much trouble, and the staff anticipated our needs, were personable but also knew when to keep their distance too.The whole design aesthetic has been executed flawlessly and was better than many boutique hotels we’ve stayed at across various capitals cities and rural retreats. We loved the sunset from the balcony and the deep, fast-filling bath tub. But the star attraction was undoubtedly the farm to table gastronomic experience - from the picnic lunch by the brook to the tasting menu dinner to the sumptuous breakfasts.

With four friends we endured the woodland picnic. In spite of being a warm sunny day the tables were set in a copse of high trees and it was bitterly cold. One guest wore ski gloves ! Although we were warned and took blankets it was SO cold. Whist the main-course food was acceptable, the desert was disgraceful. Three small plastic pots with two teaspoons of plan yoghurt, one strawberry and four 50p size pieces of meringue. A lady came to the table and said ' I am **** and I will be looking after you' we never saw her again. No one asked us if everything was going well and how the food was, I was treating someone for their birthday so did not make a fuss at the time. It was overpriced at £160 for for people and I would not recommend, unless you own an Absolute Zero suite and don't mid shoddy service.

It was lovely to be able to return to Green Cow Kitchens again. We have been hiding away for most of lockdown but knew we would feel safe to visit here. There are less tables now and well spaced out. The bar has been moved to the end of the room, giving more space, even though there are less tables. Isabella phoned to check we were still able to attend and was waiting to greet us. Our temperatures were taken and there was sanitiser in the reception area and on the tables. We were here for lunch, which is slightly different to our earlier visits for dinner. Everything on the menu looked good and was. Some unusual items from the new chef and was disappointed that we did not get a selection of local cheeses. Keeping our fingers crossed that we will be able to visit more in 2021.

I would place my rating as Good (not average). The menu looked good (see photo) and in the main was good. The best dishes were the Game Terrine, Beef and some of the desserts. The cheese was excellent. The wine list is not extensive and affordable, we chose a French Riesling which was very nice.Staff at the restaurant are lovely and knowledgable when asking questions about the food and wine, and wine pairing. Although some of the waiting staff are very inexperienced, maybe in training or hired for large events (ie. we sat down with glasses of wine from the bar, our pre-ordered wine for the meal already at the table, the young waiter picked up the bottle and asked if I would like to try the wine. We politely said no, he then didn't return later to open the wine). The restaurant and building design and decor looks amazing, even at the start of the storms and lots of rain. The surrounding area is picturesque so we will hopefully be back for dinner in the Summer!

What a disappointment! This was a birthday treat and it was anything but a treat. I have been quite ill during the night and since and I suspect that the Lamb Burger which I asked for served 'pink' and which was raw in the middle could have been the cause though such inexperienced cooking could have meant that all the food was suspect. I began with the smoked haddock starter. A good idea but the flavour of the haddock was overwhelmed by the salsa. The lamb burger sounded Ok but as I just mentioned was badly cooked and whilst I am aware that cooking things pink takes some skill I expected better from this establishment which people speak well of. The lamb burger plate was badly conceived with far too much mayo involved - it was smeared on the bread, lavish in the coleslaw and a dipping dish of more mayo was included. I had expected some mayo but as the coleslaw was described as 'minted' I expected something very different. When I complained about the so-called minted coleslaw I was brought a small dish of mint leaves - obviously, the kitchen had forgotten to do whatever was intended. The chips were nice. The dessert was a travesty. Advertised as Lemon Meringue Pie with Marmalade Ice Cream the pastry crust was soft, the lemon filling barely tasted of lemon and certainly had no tartness as it should have done and the meringue was badly mixed and although brown on the top probably from a griddle or a flame was soft and runny and not crisp and light as meringue should be. In addition, the sugar had not been folded in properly so it was very sweet and crunchy with sugar grains. The ice cream did not taste of marmalade.

The taster menu never disappoints! The quality and quantity is absolute perfection. I highly recommend a visit for the food alone. The service on our first 2 visit in 2017 was great however our third visit in Oct 19 was unfortunately some of the worst fine dining service I’ve experienced. There was enough staff on to have just 2 tables per waiter / waitress yet we had to wait a long time for water (asked for it during introductions and received it after the first course) and at no point was our water topped up for us. The site was under construction for all of our visits and even during our most recent visit the conditions were not ideal. The entrance had poor underfoot conditions and whilst you are warned of this, I feel that given the duration of the construction, a better temporary surface could have been provided. I believe the construction may now have been completed. All that being said, we will definitely be returning as the food is some of the best we’ve had.

Although the Green Cow is just minutes from us and I know the Whitbourne Estate well, this was the first time that we have been for the Tasting Menu. It was superb. They retain the same menu for a month and for March we started with White Crab & avocado tian, then veloute of wild garlic with a quail egg, wild rabbit and oancetta canelloni and organic estate lamb. This was followed by a local blue cheese, creme caramel and roast pineapple & caramel. Every course was delicious but never too much, and, although I have a personal fad against soup, i managed most of the veloute. Very friendly service and great cooking, thank you Mickey & James and to owner, Joe who saw us on arrival. Must repeat soon. For information the tasting menus are Friday/ Saturday with a bistro type menu esrlier in the week.

This was quite simply the best food I have had and the quality lasted right through 7 courses. Saying simply belies the effort and skill that went into this amazing, delicious Valentine Tasting Menu. Heaven on a plate and also in a bottle/glass. We didn't follow the menu suggested wines but chose from the wine list which is very extensive. All the staff were attentive, friendly and knowledgeable about the food and the excellent service complemented the wonderful food. This is not inexpensive dining but in my opinion, given the level of quality, it is great value for money.

Eating in a cowshed in February sounds rather grim but this was a lovely experience with excellent local produce presented by sound culinary skills.

Amazing food and service at a reasonable price. Will definitely be coming back again. Set menu was fabulous - also took away the pressure of having to choose!

We had a fabulous evening at Green Cow Kitchens to mark my husband's 40th birthday. We've always been wary of tasting menus - small portions, over hyped - but what we experienced was a beautifully-cooked selection of food, served with time to savour the details and carefully introduced by the waiting staff without being pretentious or overbearing. If the sign of a good restaurant lies in your favourite dishes proving to be those you'd never normally order as you're not fond of the ingredients named on the menu, Green Cow Kitchens is certainly a winner. Looking forward to the rooms being opened in due course (part of the charm is it's location but someone has to drive!) so we'll definitely be back and, hopefully, able to make more of the wine menu then too.

Wow. Who would expect Michelin quality food in a converted pig-sty, what seems likes miles from civilisation, through fields of sheep and pumpkins, and over umpteen cattle grids? Chef Mickey Provis' tasting menu last night was one of the best food experiences ever and certainly up there with any of the Michelin restaurants I have been to. Rabbit, pheasant, local pumpkin, cheeses from a few miles away, and warm fennel bread to die for. Wish I lived just a bit closer.

We all enjoyed the tasting menu which was suitably autumnal. The chef was very accommodating when it came to one member of the party's allergies.

Just loved this place, if you can find it! However, maybe that is a good thing as it was wonderful. The food was so tasty and thoughtful, so much flavour and consideration for my own wheat and dairy intolerance. If in the area we would go again tomorrow.

We were taken there by my father in law for my birthday. It was a wonderful treat that must be repeated. My advise is to not look at the menu and just indulge in the experience.

After a wonderful first visit to the Green Cow in May with friends, I decided it would be the perfect birthday celebration for my husband and I. I was slightly worried that it wouldn't live up to all of the hype I'd given it- but really shouldn't have worried!

A bit difficult to find which is the only problem. On a farm and externally not very pre-possessing. Simple clean interior. Each of my courses was superb.

A celebratory meal for our 20th Wedding Anniversary we went with another couple who had been before and it came highly recommended. It didn't disappoint. Situated down a long country lane it looks like an ordinary farm barn. We were greeted in the car park by a member of staff and escorted into the barn to find an elegant and stylish restaurant. Just one sitting with all tables occupied so booking is essential. A pre dinner drink of rasberry gin and tonic or rasberry juice and prosecco was offered but other drinks are available. We were seated at our table and there followed a procession of delightful taste experiences. Seven courses, small but incredibly filling with locally sourced meat and vegetables. We had the recommended wines to accompany our meal and they were a perfect choice. This experience was a tastebud sensation.I can't wait to go there again.

We really enjoyed the tasting menu - all amazing great flavours, expertly presented by the chef and delivered by lovely friendly staff. We have been to Michelin starred restaurants before and we believe the Green Cow Kitchen can hold their heads high as they compete very well against them.

A wonderful evening out with 6 adult family members, all who know about good food. We were all impressed by the high quality of every course on the July tasting menu. They were visually attractive and so tasty. We each had a different favourite and all enjoyed each and every one - quite an achievement! The amount was just right, we left feeling nicely full. Staff were appropriately attentive.

Our evening at the Green Cow last night was fabulous from the first moment to the last. We were greeted at our car and walked through to our table by a lovely waitress. Aperitifs were gorgeous and suited the hot sunny day. Every single course of the tasting menu was delicious, with fresh, seasonal, well prepared ingredients. We were looked after by all of the waitresses exceptionally well all evening. Could not find a single fault with anything.

As a reasonably regular visitor to the GCK this was without doubt the best yet, not that we’ve ever had a disappointment. Every course was a delight for both of us. Micky and the kitchen seemed to have reached a new level. Cant wait to return. TripAdvisor only allow a mark out of 5, pity as worthy of a 10.

I made an early decision that I was not going to post a review of the Green Cow Kitchens at Crumplebury Farm as I wanted to keep this gem of a place to myself. However, I slept on this overnight and considered that such a selfish act would have been a disservice to the fabulous owners, chefs and support staff who all went the extra mile in providing a truly memorable evening. The food was exquisite and superbly presented, the wine recommendations were perfect and the total ambience of the restaurant was nice and relaxed. From the time of our arrival (with a particularly warm greeting in the car park) to our departure, we were really well looked after by some amazing people who really wanted to make our visit special. The setting was beautiful and the service was exemplary and all staff were warm, friendly and particularly attentive. Each course was expertly described which added to the occasion - a real foodie's delight. Many thanks to all for making our evening so special - brilliant!!

Very pleasantly surprised by the food here, so I felt compelled to write a review. We have popped in quite a few times for a pint, but never for food until yesterday. The atmosphere in the pub is very sweet and cosy with fires going when it's chilly. Good real ales on tap and the bar staff have always been friendly. The food though... we were very impressed! Really tasty, properly comforting pub food, all home made and with local ingredients too! 4 of us eating, two with quite specific dietary requirements but were catered for really well. This was the only place in Kington where we could find a good selection of gluten free options! The chef came out of the kitchen to check everything was okay, talking us through some of the dishes as we were choosing and ask how the food was. He seems genuinely passionate about his food, taking pride in how he tweaks the recipes each time - this was lovely to see. If I was to nitpick, the dining room doesn't have quite the same cosy atmosphere as the main part of the pub, so some tweaking is required here. That being said, this place is truly a real gem that is worth your visit and we will definitely be eating here next time we're in town.
