James Martin inspired menu in a beautiful setting. Visited on a Sunday lunch so a smaller menu. Food was excellent as was the service. £45 for 2 courses or £55 for 3. Really nice treat

We booked for afternoon tea, we were really looking forward to it. We had read on the website there was parking but initially we really struggled to find it as it is hidden behind the hotel when we did there was only one space so we ended up blocking each other in, not ideal but worked. We were a little early so we asked if we could register our cars and look round the shops which we were allowed to do. Arrived for afternoon tea hovered in the room for a while waiting for a server. Taken to our table very nice setting. Can’t lie staff were unenthusiastic and seemed like they wanted to be anywhere but there. Afternoon tea took a while to arrive and when it did the server couldn’t explain what the items were. Sandwiches were ok nothing special. Scones we had were raw in the middle we asked if it was possible to have fresh ones which wasn’t a problem but sadly when they arrived they were also raw so we left them. Cakes were nice and good size. Came to paying and we requested to take the service charge off and leave it in cash instead. The waitress questioned us on this and rolled her eyes. As we were collecting our things we could hear the waiting staff moaning that we had taken off the service charge off I won’t repeat what they called us but wasn’t pleasant. I used the toilet and when I returned they were still moaning. So just so the waiting staff are aware the mirrored screen isn’t sound proof and we heard everything you said about us. After hearing this we chose not to leave a cash tip. Left quite frustrated. Setting is nice and afternoon tea ok on the expensive side for what it is. Staff let the side down sadly.

Five members of family and friend visited The Lygon for afternoon tea on Monday 25/03/24. Despite not being in the fullness of youth we were invited to sit on the most uncomfortable sofa around a coffee table! Despite there being obviously 5 in our party, we were presented with "tea" for 4 - which arrived after a substantial wait. We pointed out to staff that there were actually 5 in the party - cue for another long wait whilst the staff rectified the situation!! The scones presented to my wife (gluten-free) were harder than rock cakes, the remaining scones were so crumbly that they disintegrated before cream/jam could be applied. If this wasnt enough, when we paid, the hotel had the audacity to automatically apply a 12.5% "service charge" - which was not paid needless to say. All in all, a very disappointing show from the Lygon. As we are local, we will think more than twice about returning.

Booked restaurant for birthday treat. How disappointing after waiting years to go there. Firstly restaurant didnt tell us our table was ready after sitting in bar for 30 mins! We had to chase it up with manager. We then had to wait 50 mins for meal to arrive, it was passed 22.00 before we ate. I had lamb which was nice enough but gravy far too thick looked like made out of granules! It certainly was not worth £120 price tag which had 12% service charge which I object to. I tip what I think its worth thankyou. Wont go back for sure!

I have always loved this Hotel. This December was our 4th visit. However, it’s not a great place to eat, if you have food allergies now. The menus both for breakfast and an evening meal have the minimum of choice. I’m Celiac and dairy free and was shocked that there is no alternative choices for anything. The breakfast is not good at all and other than requesting gf bread which you have to ask for and you only receive one postage stamp piece of it ! The rest of the breakfast you are left with the minimum amount of choice that are safe to eat. It was sad that’s there is no dairy free yogurt no GF cereal no gf pastries or biscuits. Couldn’t even eat the sausages or mushrooms this very much limits what I would call ‘the hearty breakfast’. If you like sitting watching people tuck in then it’s the place to be! We found the evening meal just as limiting I couldn’t even have any potatoes with any meal no starter other than veg and unless you like garden salad or plain vegetables with a steak your pretty much stuck. This is really rather poor for a hotel / restaurant of this standard. Luckily most local restaurants/cafe have an abundance of choice so I didn’t starve snd the food in establishments was over and above both in quality and choice. But it’s put a damper on whether I would return which is sad because I have always enjoyed staying at this hotel until now.

Me and my friends decided to come to The Lygon Arms for a drink on a Friday night, instantly we came into an unsurprisingly empty bar and were met with a snide comment about not being able to open a stiff door, We went and sat down to enjoy a pint ( spending 6 pounds which is easily one of the highest priced pints in the town). We sat down for about 15 minutes and a few more people came along to sit down and were rudely refused entry for not instantly purchasing any alcohol 2 of which were designated drivers and one a recovering alcoholic. We were just sat quietly enjoying a drink and we were met with without a doubt the worst service I have ever experienced in my life, which I am not using lightly. I would avoid this place like the plague. As a local I would recommend instead of wasting your time here going to: The Noel Arms, The Bakers Arms, The Volunteer Inn or The Cotswold House Hotel to name a few.

Me and my friends went for a drink, and I found that the staff were very rude to us and were making fun of my friend who was staying sober as he was the designated driver. My mate is a recovering alcoholic very rudely for not consuming alcohol and made us feel unwelcome. I was made to feel very uncomfortable and wanted to leave. The bar staff called Jo was incredibly snide and was very sarcastic. I’ve never left a review before but this was unacceptable behaviour and very bad business. I think it’s safe to say I’m never going back. Also very expensive. I hope this place closes down.

Having had a very poor dinner experience a few months ago we returned because they gave us a voucher to encourage a return visit! Food was ok but so expensive for what it is. Prawn cocktail £22 - you are having a laugh! It is interesting reading other reviews on here about not being allowed in for drinks when plenty of space inside, and being made to feel unwelcome. This is exactly what happened to us last year and clearly nothing has changed. This place lacks a feeling of warmth and such a pity as it used to be such an excellent hotel.

Devon Cream Teas - what could be more simple for a Hotel of this renown? Earl Grey tea option, with lemon, for 2 ordered. It came with milk, one teabag in a big pot (weak as dishwater, and frankly at these prices we expected leaf tea!), no lemon…and no scones. Reminded waitress after waiting 15 mins we had no lemon…and no scones…the weak tea going cold and could she please therefore re-fresh the pot…she offered us more hot water, for the now, insipid lonely teabag. Another 10 mins, lemon comes, no refreshed pot….still no scones. She apologised for the ‘printer in the kitchen’ being broken? A waiter then appeared…with no scones…and apologised for the delay as there were 40 cream teas ordered in front of us! Would have been nice to know 30 minutes ago when we arrived. So we left the cold dishwater and left! Definitely not The Lygon Arms of old and frankly, if I were James Martin, I’d get my name taken from above the door asap.

We were met by a rather arrogant doorman who looked me up and down and asked if we were staying ? I said no. So he said we are full and wen to close the door, I said we have a reservation in the restaurant. So we were let in. At reception it was clear my reservation had been lost but was questioned as to I had actually made one. NOT A GOOD START ! The waiter was as dull as dish water. Our starter...prawn cocktail was probably the best I've ever had. Steak and chips for main was just average. Way to much salt on the chips though. My wife had a very disappointing cod. There was zero atmosphere in the restaurant, no Christmas music.

When we arrived we were asked if we wanted to leave our coats but were then ignored and left to hang them ourselves. Not a big issue but much worse was to follow. We asked to have a drink in the bar before dinner but were not shown to a table. We eventually found somewhere to sit and went to the bar to order drinks. We C were told to sit down as they provided table service. After more than 15 minutes no one had come to take our order so I went back to the bar where I was told to go back to my seat and told that someone would come straight away to take our order. We waited another 5 minutes and were just about to leave when a waitress came to take our order. We waited another 5 minutes for it to be delivered at which point the waitress came back to clear the empty glasses that had been left on the table by previous guests. After a while we were asked if we wanted to order more drinks but when we said we would like to go through to the restaurant now the waitress just walked off. At the dinner table we waited another 5-10 minutes before being asked if we’d like to order. When a different waitress brought the drinks she gave them to the wrong person and my partner’s wine glass was covered in red wine in the outside - clearly there had been a spillage on route which had not been cleaned up When i ordered a second glass of wine it was delivered to my partner who already had a half full glass of wine whilst mine was clearly empty. There were plenty of staff around and some of them knew what to do but waited to be prompted whilst the other staff members appeared not to have been trained properly. Overall the service was very disappointing given the reputation and pricing of this restaurant

A stormy day - a long very rainy drive - we were looking forward to a great lunch with friends - but it starts to go wrong as you walk in the front door - its poorly lit and you have no idea whether the chap standing in the doorway who says hello is staff or not - and the under-lit areas continued as we walked further in - my wife went upstairs to the toilet and advised me not to as the handrail was loose - at least the Grill was light and spacious and the service was good - but the main course was a disappointment - a festive menu - I know this is a 17th century inn and it did seem that the sprouts could have served as cannonballs - the turkey was thick, chewy and tasteless. TBH we had anticipated a great experience and it was no more than average.

Called in for Sunday lunch in the restaurant. Customer service good but a bit over the top. Pity the food did not match. Only one roast on offer (beef) but served on cold plates. Roast potatoes and veg selection were excellent. But food lost its...

Stayed for three days at Lygon. Possibly the most comfortable, cozy, warm, place in England. Most incredible is the staff.....Ben, Geordie, Natasha, Abigail, Daniel....who are so friendly it’s ridiculous and then there’s the food...OMG!! No need to leave the hotel for three days. The food...

We booked to dine for luncheon in the bar and grill. First impressions were how nicely set the dining room was. To start we chose a bowl of olives, they were I ripe and dreadful at £5 unfit to eat. We then ordered two classic...

We visited the wine bar late afternoon and the service and ambience was very good. Early evening as a party of 6 we had cocktails in the main bar but were eating at another hotel. Again a nice ambience, however 2 of the 6 drinks...

Under new management, the food is much improved, there are lots of spaces within the hotel to sit in quiet corners and relax with your dog at your feet and order grill style food at the bar.Unfortunately service at the bar for cocktails is a bit slow, and they seemed to not have quite enough staff. But the food arrived quickly and as steak and chips go, it was a really tast steak with great chips.Puddings were a bit average and could do with a bit of innovation.Overall it’s a good addition to Broadway but it is expensive for what it is.£180 for a couple of cocktails, a couple glasses of wine, two steaks and two puds.

We really enjoyed our trip to the lygon bar and grill and coming on here am shocked at some of the reviews. The staff were all very friendly and knew a great deal about any of the products being served (my gf is dairy free)....

What to say. Tragic. Comic. Farce. The wait staff are inexperienced. Our waitress presented a dish as “spinach.” It was Brussel sprouts. Other wait staff looked like deer meets headlights. The look on the face of other customers was sad. There is no one managing...

Pershore Jazz Club recently ordered 100 meals from the Riverside Fish Bar for our Christmas jazz night. The food was delivered on time, and it was hot and delicious. We received favourable comments from numerous people. The reasonable priced package included salt, vinegar and sauces. The curry sauce was a popular choice. The team at the Riverside could not have been more helpful.

The historic aspect of this hotel is very special. It has charming areas of the lobby to sit and relax. We had some room issues and the maintenance staff was prompt and very accommodating. However, the service in the bar and restaurant for tea and dinner were disappointing and not at all what I expect from a 4star venue. The breakfast waitresses were very kind and did a good job, but the afternoon and evening team could use some training. All the employees wear their street clothes, so it is difficult to tell the difference between guests and staff. With all the awards Lygon Arms received, I was expecting so much more.

We had a lovely night away in this beautiful hotel, with an extremely comfortable bed in a room in the main house. We had drinks in the bar before exploring the gorgeous gardens and meeting Charlie the kitten amongst the roses. Our evening meal was wonderful. We were offered complimentary Prosecco each (it was our fortieth wedding anniversary) and we started with homemade sourdough and pate which was delicious. For the mains, I chose the lamb which fell apart under my fork and my husband chose the chicken which was moist and delicious. Breakfast was equally fabulous, with a choice of cereals/juices/toast and we had the full English - one with poached egg and one with scrambled - all cooked to perfection. Great place, great food, great service from lovely, helpful and smiley staff - we will return…

My wife and I visited this pub one Sunday for dinner. Luckily they had one Sunday lunch left which my wife had. I had the steak which was cooked medium just as I had asked for.. delicious 😋 All in all the food served was delicious and the staff were very attentive. We live not too far away so we will definitely visit again soon.
