This cafe is so good that we call in every time we head to Cornwall. It’s always a real treat. Hubby nearly always has the cinnamon bun; I have either the lemon and pistachio cake or a bacon roll. All superb, served by lovely staff. Tea and coffee great too.

The fish and meat counters are excellent, and the ready-made tarts are supper party worthy (five stars). Avoid the cafe unless you want to pick up a cinnamon swirl, though. The menu looks modern and fresh, but I have eaten there - or tried to - over the last two years and everything has been massively over salted and nothing has tasted nearly as good as it looked (one star, sometimes no stars). I tried an almond croissant last week. Hard as a rock. The staff are always friendly and helpful (more stars), and offered to get another one (from a packet in the shop), but it was clearly going to be the same, and I accepted a refund. All very frustrating, as with a bit more care the cafe could be a really nice place for a quick lunch.

Here is the feedback I have sent to the Cornish Food Hall (Waitrose, Truro) regarding my experience today: I popped into the Cornish Food Hall in Waitrose today as I was passing through Truro to pick up some lunch. I had a slice of frittata with a large portion of the 3 salads. What a disappointment! Never again! The frittata was tasteless - needed seasoning and possibly some herbs. The potato salad was OK not great. The coleslaw was absolutely swimming in oil - which, when decanted onto a plate covered the other salads. The lentil and olive and chilli salad did not work - raw kale is far too tough to be put in a salad, there was no hint of chilli and there were no olives. I suggest a change of chef and also that someone tastes the food before it is put on sale. Yours, disappointed.

1 star for several reasons. Firstly hygiene. The person who served me moved from cleaning work surfaces with a dirty cloth and spray cleaner, straight to making my coffee and putting his dirty fingers inside the cups. Clearly instructed to wear gloves all the staff seem not to know that it is to protect the customers- not them. Secondly attitude. The coffee was served to our table but without sugar. When I asked for sugar I was told, “It’s up on the counter with the napkins’. All said with, ‘attitude’. If you don’t like the job try street cleaning, you may find it more rewarding. Thirdly. When I complained the apparent manager just demonstrated couldn’t care less skills. Lastly. The coffee was almost undrinkable. This cafe is adjoining Waitrose but separate. It serves some lovely food but because of the lack of hygiene, uneducated staff, and truck coffee, I will go elsewhere. Avoid it.

Particularly the meat counter (we had fillet steaks) and organic locally grown vegetables. Both much tastier than their waitrose counterparts. The coffee and food from their deli was very good also

So praktisch.

We were two families, so a rather large group of 9 people. The staff were friendly but very disorganised. We all asked for hot drinks and various cakes, but we had to remind them a couple of times that something was still missing. They brought us one tea too many but 'kindly' told us to have it anyway. And then we got charged for it! A lovely place with a great shop too, but the summer staff need a bit of training.

I don't know if we caught them on a bad day, but we waited to buy some pies while the lady was slicing some meat. We come into Truro for our shop often to enjoy a lunch at the Cornish Food Store. We mostly have the Fish Goujons! However the last couple of times we have gone they have varied in the proportions as well as quality sadly. Be it Cod, or Whitefish, or even the Lemon Sole they can be very delicious. The crisp light batter when it’s good is very good as well as the tartar sauce is fresh homemade. But it’s been lately very small proportions for the price and very greasy!

The Cornish are rightly proud of their county and its produce but this food hall attached to a local supermarket but otherwise seemingly independent takes things perhaps just a step too far. A wide selection but mainly of transformed goods though also sells meat, some excellent fish and a selection of vegetables. Prices to match. Would prefer to be able to find much more fresh Cornish and other primary produce more widely throughout the county of Cornwall and not just in one place.

Intending to go into Truro, I parked at the Tregurra Park and Ride which is handy for both Waitrose and the Great Cornish Food Store. Although I had been into the store before I hadn't appreciated that the café provided such a range of dishes, so I stopped off for lunch and thoroughly enjoyed the fish dish of the day - plaice with tartare sauce, potatoes and asparagus. I was not wanting a huge meal so the portion size was just right. However I did have room for a very good Eton mess. All the food served here is from Cornwall and all very tempting

The cheese pastie was delicious too. They stock the delicious Kernow chocolate range & lovely Cornish biscuits - perfect to take home as extra gifts & Cornish treats. All in favour of promoting local produce and well done to all concerned in this venture. Only popped in to do a quick shop at Waitrose but so impressed with the choice, layout and friendly staff. The cafe looked inviting and we shall return to try out later in the week, we chose a few items from the deli and enjoyed them very much for our supper. Yes, it’s a bit expensive but you can’t argue with the quality and you have to bear in mind the overheads. We do our main shopping at a main stream supermarket and use Waitrose etc for “treats”. We shall also return to try out some of the lovely fish on offer.

Friendly staff and quick service in lovely surroundings really helped after our long trip. Food was ok but nothing especially out of the ordinary and rather over priced, in total brunch cost us £43. We wouldn't revisit but instead choose alternatives locally for better value for money. Having said that it was 100 times better than the ghastly Cornwall services along the A30.

We popped in here on our way through Truro to pick up a few bits and bobs. There is a wide range of products from fresh meat and seafood through to homeware and drinks - it's really a 'one stop shop' for all things Cornish. The only negative is that some of the items are pricey - we certainly saw many of the products here available elsewhere for lower prices - the tradeoff being that here they're all under one roof so it's convenience vs cost.

This, to me, was a pilgrimage. I worked hard to get to it, but I was so glad I put in the effort (I was on foot). You can get lost simply browsing the array of items that are Cornish-produced or grown. I had a lunch of one of the best pasties I have tasted along with a cup of Cornish-grown and processed black tea. I also ordered from the butcher pork chops and stewing beef to make a fantastic dinner that night. Cornwall is a glorious place food-wise, and the Great Cornish Food Store is all about celebrating that fact and educating consumers about its abundance. Highly, highly recommended.

There are around a dozen choices for lunch and everything we saw coming out looked awesome. We both settled on the meatballs with mustard mash and purple stressing broccoli. Wow, what a delicious meal and so filling all for the cost of a sandwich in lesser venues. We have been a few times and I have to say that the variety of produce on display is very limited, which is a shame. As the things they do have are lovely. The fishmonger has a beautiful variety of fresh fish as well as the butcher and then there is the restaurant that offers lovely sandwiches and soups and salads all very fresh. I love the Crab Sarnie as my husband loves the topside beef on lovely fresh baked breads. The soup of the day has been a hit too! Yes a bit pricey but they are worth it. But when it comes to Local Veg and Fruits there are very little just a very small area. And otherwise marketing of dishes and gifty type things. I would only wish they concentrated more on the real fresh food and more variety.

I will start by saying the restaurant did reduce our bill and throw in a few free extras but we were very surprised by the quality and portioning of the food. At the time the cafe was very quiet but the staff seemed a little bit chaotic. Orders not being put through properly, items missed off and not knowing what beer they had available. A couple of us ordered the chicken burger (£13) and my son had the kids version (£8.50) but his came with chips. I was pretty shocked when we both received exactly the same sized portion. A small bun, 1/2 a small chicken fillet and one piece of lettuce, not exactly worth £13. The staff did even comment that they there was an issue but still felt it was fine to serve and just expect people to pay. The pizzas were but ok but again surprised when we we charged £3 for 2-3 sliced olives as an extra. We've eaten at many other places up and down the coast and based on our experience we would not return.
