We went for Afternoon Vintage tea for two on a group on 2 weeks ago. The cafe was freezing. We had to keep our coats on. Service was ok but we were the only customers for quite a while. We have sampled several afternoon teas from other places and Granny Smith's is a let down. The sandwiches were plain and unexciting. The scones were ok. The cakes were very poor and cheap. No flair at all. The young lady serving us was pleasant enough although " no problem" every time she did anything does grate after a while. Course it's no problem if you're doing the job you're being paid for. Won't go back. Won't recommend.

First of all, I must say that the two ladies working there when we visited were lovely, they greeted us in a very friendly manner and were welcoming and professional. The reason for the 2 stars is that the food wasn't the best. We paid £12.95 for a Groupon afternoon tea for two deal and having had several of these and visited other tea rooms we felt that in comparison with price, this was poor. The tea and coffee were great, the sandwiches however were extremely cold (been kept in a fridge?) and the selection wasn't great, two ham, egg mayo, tuna mayo which was poor if you don't like mayo. The cakes were cheap packet types and so were the scones. I would imagine that all of the produce was purchased from the cheapest supermarket and unfortunately it let Granny Smiths down. I found that £12.95 for this meal was extremely poor and could not recommend.

We changed our booking for Afternoon Tea from 5 adults to 3 adults giving plenty of notice. When we arrived we pointed out the child that was with us would only be having some cake from our selection. After 20 minutes of waiting we had to ask where the food was? Selection of sandwiches didn't meat the choice for the amount of people - should have had 3 of each selection so we could all try - it was mainly egg mayonnaise!!! Went to pay and was charged £40 (4 people) their reason was because we had a child with us and they had already sorted the food from 6am that morning when the original booking was for 5! Really??? We queried this only to receive a very rude short sharp response from the member of staff (Older member I would like to add.The younger member of staff was very pleasant) .Also overheard the rude staff member telling other people that they had ten minutes to finish their tea as she was closing !!! Completely spoilt our visit which was for a birthday. Definitely do not recommend this place and certainly wouldn't return. Very very rude and poor service.

My first impression when I walked in was that it was a bit unfriendly as the waitress didn't smile, speak or a knowledge us. We sat down, looked at the menu, had a bit of a grumble about the frosty reception and then decided as there was food we fancied we'd stay and give it a try. I'm so glad we did! When we went up to the counter to order, the girls working there were actually really nice and friendly. The menu is simple but very nice. Food is presented nicely on mismatched vintage crockery. Drinks are nice and served piping hot. We spent three hours in there chatting away and there was no pressure to leave. Decor is very comfortable and pretty. These days there aren't many places you can get two pots of tea (I had 6 cups out of two pots) panini served with salad and coleslaw and then cake to finish for less than £10. I will definitely visit again. It's far better value than the Tithe Barn round the corner.

Have been (admittedly when there is no one else in) and no issues with service but this time around, there were five other customers and it brought things to a stand still. Waited over thirty minutes for food which then was a wrong order and staff were more bothered about setting up for afternoon tea than dealing with the outstanding orders. Such a shame as this could be a really nice spot if it was run as well as when the managing lady is in.

A lovely little place.. beautifully vintage decor , been here a few time food is very nice highly recommend the breakfast is a real treat all the meat on the plate was delicious, the only thing I can give a negative comment on is the price a little bit pricey but for the quality of food worth it

Por favor cheer up. Tienes un gran lugar. Disfrútalo, luego que sus clientes se también.

As a local lad I've been here several times and with various degrees of success, they use really good butchers sausages.....some of the time, if you order takeaway you seem to get cheap ones....maybe as its a takeaway they don't care as they can't see your disappointed face..The decor is nice and the staff are friendly although very slow, getting a clean table is somewhat of an issue and I'd forget about having a quick breakfast, it was nearly an hours wait ( on a quiet day ) before we got ours and it's nice but not an hours wait nice. It's a real shame as when it first opened it had so much potential

We had a lovely afternoon. Lovely decor, vintage embroidered tablecloths and china tea cups. There were 17 of us for the Shower and we had lovely sandwiches, cakes, scones with cream and jam, tea, coffee etc. The staff could not have been more helpful and let us take in some extra decorations and Prosecco. It was just a lovely day. All for £12 per head. Thank you all. X

It's a lovely looking little tearoom, using lovely fresh bread from a local bakers and done out really nicely but it could be so much better.Out of 6 tables only 1 was taken, all the rest needed clearing and no sense of urgency from the waiting staff. We sat at a table and put the dirty crockery on the table next to us, at which point the waitress came over to clear and clean that table, not ours. Had to ask to have our table cleaned, breakfast menu and no lunch menu on the table even though it was lunchtime. My latte was hot but a distinct lack of froth. Our 2 sandwiches took quite a while to come, and given it's a tearooms, it would have looked much nicer if they had been cut into 4 small triangles with a small salad garnish instead of just cut in half and plonked on a plate. Also one of the most underwhelming selection of cakes I've seen in a tearooms, scones (cheese and fruit), teacakes, some bought in tray-bake type, that was it really, nothing tempting. This place could be great but they really need to up their game.

Great food all sourced locally from bakers and butchers.Only issue I have is the time it takes to receive your food, don't go if your in a rush! We have noticed this to be a frequent thing, and this week waited over half an hour just for our drinks! I wouldn't usually mind but there were only us an another table there when we ordered.Doesn't open til 9.30 either so think they are missing a trick here! Seems a bit late! It has the potential to be great but the speed of service definitely needs to be improved!

Wrapped the little ones up to meet my mum and nieces at the cafe after school today as a treat on a very cold day. Arrived just before 3.30pm to find them locking the door. They did open up only to say that despite their opening hours being till 4pm they were shutting for the day! So with 2 school children, a 3year old and a baby all on the doorstep, freezing cold, we were turned away. So disappointed that there wasn't even an offer of a cuppa considering we'd travelled from other villages to get there.

House hunting in the area and the pub was closed for lunch (!) so we went here. Superb menu and reasonable prices. Quite busy so had to wait a while but free wifi so I could watch the cricket. We'll be back if we buy a house in Cosby !!

This is the very essence of a tearoom in a pretty little village. A fair selection of cakes to choose from with decent coffee and pots of tea. Home cooked food and sandwiches for lunches. Breakfasts until 12.00 noon. Staff were helpful and friendly and the place was clean and tidy. Just what a village tearoom should be.

Took my two girls and their friend here whilst my kitchen was being refitted. Was really lovely. Good menu with hot and cold food on offer. Breakfast menu looked good too. We had panini sand jacket potatoes. The drinks are nice. Great looking cakes and fresh bread. Very friendly staff. I thought the decor was lovely and the chairs and crockery suit the whole ambiance. Well worth a visit and I will be returning.

This is a real gem in the village of Cosby. There is a good selection of home cooked food and lots of lovely cakes!! They also offer a nice selection of hot and cold drinks. The staff are really friendly, I visited a little late this afternoon in the hope of a late lunch and they sorted me a lovely meal without any compliant at my timing. I have also visited for breakfast which is great!!! Well done long may it continue.

I brought my mum here to enjoy afternoon tea like the other 2 reviewers. It was very good, beautiful fresh bread with 3 different types of sandwich, egg was my favourite. Then cake, a lovely individual Victoria sandwich and a fresh cream and lemon curd cream horn; that was delicious. Finally there were scones with cream and jam; we were too full by then to eat them so they were boxed for us and enjoyed later.Such a lovely teashop that is very popular with local people, it was reasonably busy on the Tuesday afternoon we visited. The only down side was that the toilet is upstairs and no use for my mum who cannot climb barely a step never mind a flight of stairs.I went again on Saturday with my husband and had lunch, they are usually open until 3pm.Very popular once more we were lucky to find a table. The bread was really soft and fresh just like before. A great place to relax and look out at the pretty village.

My daughters took me here for afternoon tea with a groupon voucher. I don't think they usually open on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon which is a shame. The mis-match of china crockery and tea pots was quirky, just like eatting at grannys house, including the odd chipped plate. The meal consisted of a pot of tea or coffee. A Plate of traditional sandwiches, egg and cress, salmon and cucumber and cheese and tomato. The bread was good quality and tasty. No crusts cut off here. There was then a homemade chocolate eclair each and either a mini victoria sandwich or a chocolate butterfly cake followed by a homemade scone, jam and cream. The waiter advised us that anything we couldnt finish he would box up for us. As we had booked for 4 but only 3 of us went we did take sandwiches and cake home.

I bought a voucher on Groupon for afternoon tea for 2 and went today with a friend. When we arrived there was a table already set up and reserved for us with a cute little chalkboard on it. We were offered tea or coffee as soon as we sat down. Then a couple of minutes later a 3 tiered stand was brought out with sandwiches, scones and cakes on. Everything was delicious and the service was spot on, the staff were really friendly. I'd definitely recommend Granny Smith's and will be going back very soon!
