The food here is prepared with little care or attention and is exceptionally expensive for the swill that is served. Eat here at your own peril and if you literally have no other choice.

Food was excellent and very reasonable, hotel is centrally located and has on site parking. My only gripe is the lack of air conditioning, only a small desk van available, which is useless. Fortunately this time air con was not needed, but I have stayed previously and been absolutely boiling. I usually stay in the Oatlands, but this was fully booked and similarly priced, they have a lot to do to compete.

Arrived 13.50 and realized check in was from 14.00 This a young man took very tight and left me and others wait until sharp 14 .00 This was redicolous That aside a really sweet hotel with friendly staff, great beds, parking, a great restaurant with quality food (had the tuna steak) as well as an inner court where you can relax Certainly recommendable. Breakfast only and once only. Buffet uncovered with unmasked diners breathing all over it. Waiter’s unmasked too. After that we went out for breakfast. We live in Scotland where masks are still mandatory. But when reception told us that they had a problem with getting staff as they kept getting pinged we thought the hotel should ask their staff to mask up.

Staff were pleasant (hence 2*) but the food was very poor(-5*)! Burnt Pie, soggy chips, tasteless gravy. Food was shocking to be honest, was cheap because of the way out to help out but if it was full price and I wasn’t so hungry and tired it would have went back! Can I recommend to management that you stick to hotel accommodation at this time as this has let you down, there is no real need for plastic knives and forks. This is the only place in UK that I’ve had to use takeaway utensils and I’ve stayed in 10 hotels during August and eaten in some and also outside in restaurants!

I visited The Ship in September , two Sunday's in a row. On my first visit I had the roast beef & could barely cut it never mind chew it. It was like rubber & I did not enjoy it at all! The 2nd visit I had the roast pork & it was ok but I was surprised that there were no mashed potatoes , only roasted!? Also it would be better if the gravy could be served in a side jug because my plate was swimming in it (lead to a very soggy yorkshire pudding)! The gravy also had far too much mixed herbs in it so the taste of them took over the whole meal! Really feel the food was very mediocre , on both occasions , to say the least! The service on my 2nd visit was a shambles! They were late in setting up so we had to wait in reception, although we had booked a table! The waiter brought our menu's & as we were reading through them , he came back & took them from us , saying he had given us the wrong menu!? We were then handed a very short menu , printed onto paper!? The choice for mains was terrible (3 options). Well , I wasn't having the beef again , don't like quiche , so that left me with the pork! The mains were brought to our table before our starters & so were taken away again! The starters were then brought out & we had no spoons for the soup! Overall my two experiences at The Ship do not make me want to go back & am surprised that any of this could be what a Best Western Hotel would be happy with!?

Myself , husband , some and mother in law booked for Sunday lunch, having been about 8-9 times before we knew the meat could be a little hit and miss (sometimes really tough and chewy) but we thought we'd go again and hope for a good day! We were the only table in for about 30 min then throughout the entire lunch only one other table came . The buffet style started was a let down all seafood its of boney fish nothing meat or fruit based my son (18months) loves fish but because of al the bones couldn't really eat it, I we never order the soup as the times we have it's been like water !! Sunday lunch is suppose to be comforting , lots of vegetable selections , lovely fluffy yorkshires it's suppose to be "like mum made" accept this lunch the beef was so incredibly chewy , the Yorkshire would have been perfect if they weren't swimming with oil. The potatoes weren't brown and crispy on the outside and fluffy in the middle they were pale and bland . The veg was like something you'd get in school dinner hall ... carrots, broccoli and cauliflower all cooked together in one pot . They use to have all the veg Separate and a much bigger better selection , there was no stuffing although when asked they do reheat some in microwave for me .. which was awful (unfortunately) The gravy was the only Good thing about the meal . The dessert table also use to be lovely except NEVER eat the cheesecake they always use gelatine and it's never dissolved properly so you end up gagging on tiny bits of rubbery gelatine! They use to have a cheese selection they don't seem to anymore . They staff were friendly but not very aware if all out played being full on clearing the table . Such a shame

I've stayed at the hotel many times for work but have always ventured out for dinner. After dining at Gordon's last night I'm really not sure why. The food in Gordon's was wonderful and the service excellent. I had tempura prawns to start which were good ( a little too much salad) followed by the Lamb which was divine and cooked perfectly. The restaurant is contempory and the staff friendly and warm. It's a shame more people don't use it as I would recommend.

Very disappointed with the Xmas Meal served at the restaurant. Under cooked potatoes and sprouts overcooked cauliflower. Swimming in gravy no choice if you didn't choose to not have any. Vegetarian but roast inedible by the two vegetarians at the table. Nobody else in the restaurant except for our party I guess that should be an indication. Sevice a bit too attentive but probably due to lack of other customers. Very disappointing fie our festive meal and dismissive response from restaurant upon writing in. Could be so much better and I did offer constructive criticism but was advised I should have complained at the time and had I seen my friends not eating their food I would have also everybody too polite to spoil the xmas festivities. Quite pricey at £25 per head with no drink included. Would not recommend for Xmas maybe ok if dining as a couple.

This is our third Xmas Day lunch at this hotel. Two previous visits were very good, food great etc. Was very dissapointed with the lunch this year, starter and dessert ok but the main Xmas lunch was luke warm and the turkey was over cooked and tough and served up as big thick slices and hardly any vegetables. The tables and room were decorated very nice, good quality crackers, hats etc. Our last two visits seemed quieter and less people this year seemed a little crammed and hurried. Its a lot of money to spend on a bad meal we always do it as a treat and such a shame as the two previous years have been excellent and will not be booking for next year.

First of all I must say that my husband and I have eaten at Gordons before (on a Friday evening and last New Year's) and have been very happy with the food. The service is also fabulous. We therefore thought we would try the restaurant with non-veggie friends for Sunday lunch. I had enquired a few days beforehand what the veggie Sunday dishes might be and was told possibly risotto, pasta or mushroom stroganoff. (I was hoping more for the latter as veggies tend to always get offered the other dishes when eating out). We were told the chef didn't decide untilt the actual day - which does seem strange as none of these dishes are very complicated. On the actual day there was a delicious veggie starter we chose from the buffet. However, for the main meal we were offered pasta and it was really disappointing. Whilst our friends enjoyed their carvery meals, my husband and I got some very "unspecial" bowls of wet and sweet tasting pasta. I just don't understand why more thought could not also have been given to our main meal, especially as I had rung before. There are so many interesting dishes for vegetarians (veggies wellingtons, parcels, tarts, nut roasts etc ) so why just offer these on special days such as Christmas or New Year's? Why not every Sunday generally? If you did, we would come to you more often. Please consider making your Sunday lunch menu (and indeed your Friday evening menu) more varied for vegetarians. Thank you.

The restaurant was completely empty for the entire duration of our lunch and with good reason. The food is mediocre at best and extremely overpriced for what it is. In fact the highlight of the meal for me was the bread roll. It always annoys me to be charged £20 for a bottle of wine that you can buy in Tesco for £5 - at least put it in a carafe if you're going to serve supermarket wine and then the customer won't feel quite so ripped off!

This is my mums favourite restaurant and an added bonus that it takes tastecard! The restaurant is nearly always empty but the fix is good quality in general. My mum had the steak which was perfect but unfortunately on this occasion my son and my burgers were very red in the middle. We sent them back and they said they were going to cook fresh ones. They came back still red in the middle and my son actually had the same burger as before as it had a chunk of off it. Bit of a shame really but will poetically visit again as good value with the tastecard.

My husband and I have been to the restaurant at the Ship a couple of times and have always enjoyed ourselves. The waiters are polite, friendly and professional. Thank you Israel. As my husband is a little hard of hearing, it is good to be somewhere where you can hear each other speak without having to raise your voice over loud music or other diners. Lovely environment to have a meal in. As vegetarians however, we would like to see more menu choice available for us. Vegetarians always seem to be offered pasta or risotto on menus when there is so much out there - vegetable gratins, wellingtons, pies, roasts as well as the variety of vegetables on offer. As winter approaches, these type of warmer dishes would be even more welcoming together with a veggie gravy or sauce. We would certainly then think of coming to you more often. Otherwise, a lovely haven in the middle of town.

Visiting relatives and first time visit to what was a very clean and well laid out restaurant - impressed. Waitress was pleasant and gave time to choose after taking and returning with drinks order. Two decent meaty burgers in brioche buns with chunky chips, a very tender braised shin of beef and horseradish mash, and lovely five spiced pork fillet, all with accompaniments. Deserts chosen were a good sized portion of white chocolate and lime cheesecake and a three scoop mix of ice-cream /sorbet. Only complaint was that the raspberry sorbet was rather tasteless. On the whole, worthy of another visit to sample something different.

The food was quite nice, chicken and spaghetti in tomato sauce, although the spaghetti in tomato sauce was more mascarpone/ cream than tomato and more sauce than pasta. Sausage and mash very nice, just lacking some greens. The service was below par, waiting to be seated even though we had a table booked - having to get up and ask for condiments and drinks was a bit much! The restaurant was busy with large tables to look after but even so there should have been at least one waiter to look after the rest of us!The Best Bit for me was getting a bottle of HP sauce being brought to the table completely new. I used to like Gordons Restaurant having visited it many times. This last visit will be the last unless they crack a whip and raise their standards because quite frankly I was appalled with the level of service and the quality of food that was served. It started when my girlfriend and myself were left standing for five minutes waiting to be seated. There was one person in the restaurant who told us she sat herself because there was no one to do so. At this point I got annoyed and spoke to the people on reception who told me that someone was in the kitchen and duly went to get the waiter. We were sat and ordered our meals which went as expected and then things started to go downhill. When have you ever been to a restaurant where the waiting on staff have never come to your table to ask if the food is okay? I expect this in a pub situation but not in a restaurant. Just a simple 'is the food okay' would have been suffice but nothing. Not for the starter, main or dessert !! The waiter happily was there to clear dishes and receive payment for the bill but seemed uninterested with the other duties of being a waiter. Now on to the below standard food which was served. I have no complaints about my starter but the mains were not acceptable. My girlfriend had the fish and chips and rather than ask if she wanted any other sauces, which is what I would expect, she had to physically get up and walk to the other end of the restaurant to ask the waiter to get some ketchup. At any other restaurant, this usually comes out in a small ramekin, not Gordons, the waiter just dumped the bottle of the table. I felt like I was in a chippy !!As for the chips, they were barely cooked with a ever so slight crunch in the middle. If the chefs can't cook chips there has got to be some sort of issues. Maybe they need to go across to the chip shop and find how to cook them because judging by the efforts that arrived on my girlfriends plate they need to start learning. The chicken in my pie was acceptable as was the veg and mash. The pastry topping though was not cooked properly and was very pale and I hasten to add borderline not cooked in the middle. Then came the dessert, my poached pears tasted like they had come out of a tin. They hadn't though because the chefs had left the core in !! My girlfriend's baked cheesecake was okay but nothing to right home about. So I can now see why there were only five people in the restaurant in the hour or so we were in the restaurant. I hope that this was an exception but the quality has certainly gone downhill and I would not recommend this to anyone.

Hotel restaurants are generally a disappointment. In the smaller hotels such as this one one gets the impression that they are only there as a service to the guests but to the management are a necessary evil. They generally do not seen to cater for or want non-residents!! The situation is no different here. The restaurant room itself is very large with a lot of covers but on the three evenings I have eaten here it has been virtually empty. The tables are well laid and attractive with plenty of room between them but due to the lack of diners no atmosphere. Because there was only one waitress service was slow but adequate, THe menu does try to be different with mainly British fare but was unexciting and only one starter and main course for vegetarians. Wines were ok and the overall cost was not high.Summing up it was depressing experience which I would not recommend unless you were really desperate for a meal. A very average experience. However my visit covered the restaurant only so I cannot comment on the hotel facilities. .

I arrived with my partner knowing what I wanted to order as I had checked out the menu online but was told that that menu was at least two years out of date and not only had the prices increased but they didn't have anything from that menu, the waiter apologised and said he would get it sorted out and updated but two weeks later as I write this review the old outdated menu is still there. We ordered starters but ten minutes after ordering they tell us they don't have what we ordered so we decided to give starters a miss as not much selection. My partner ordered a smoked salmon and crayfish salad but it came with no crayfish, after pointing this out to the waiter he said he would ask the chef, his reply was that it was an oversight from the chef.No offer of adding the crayfish or a reduction in the bill. This service and incompetence was probably part of the reason why the restaurant only had two other diners in the restaurant while we were there.

My wife and I visited this restaurant after all the hype about the new 'executive chef' they have taken on, and also the good reviews on Trip Advisor. Alas, we failed to see what all the fuss is about. Although the food is perfectly fine, it lacked any real flair and in fact my steak was overcooked. The worst thing about this place though is the decor and general ambience. The dining room appears to have been refurbished on a budget and is a real mish mash of styles, with the recent elements done on the cheap. As much as I enjoy listening to Magic FM, the adverts do tend to grate on you when you are trying to enjoy a romantic meal and it is being pumped into the dining room on a £20 Philips stereo situated 2 feet from your table. The only real saving grace was the service, which was efficient and friendly. Nevertheless, weighing everything up I cannot recommend visiting this establishment when there are so many marvellous eateries within Weybridge.

I took my wife to Gordons to celebrate her Birthday based on the glowing TA reviews but was fairly quickly wishing I hadn’t. The menu looked good and the suggestion of a tasting menu gave me a good feeling that this could have been a hidden gem in Weybridge. So imagine my surprise when the beer battered squid I ordered as a starter turned out to be 4 onion rings! With my wife thinking I was mad, I asked the waitress to confirm what I was eating. ‘We don’t have onion rings on the menu sir’ she said also disbelieving my claims as she took my plate away. Anyway, she came back and, clearly embarrassed, confirmed that I had indeed been served onion rings ‘by mistake’ by a ‘new chef’. The dish was duly replaced and the squid was nice but by now any confidence had gone. How could any chef, new or otherwise, confuse and onion for a squid? Two steaks followed the starters and whilst edible, I couldn’t be much more positive in review. It was supposed to be ribeye but I would have put money on mine being rump but felt uneasy about challenging the waitress for a 2nd time. The chips arrived salted to the point my wife was trying to scrape the salt off to make them edible. So all in all not a good meal. The front of house staff were nice enough but the kitchens clearly have big issues.

We have to admit that we were slightly apprehensive at having Sunday lunch in a Best Western Hotel! But, after reading reviews and needing a venue for a family lunch where ages are varied, we wanted more than a pub. We were greeted with a complimentary glass of sparkling wine which was a nice touch. We all chose buffet starter and carvery options so cannot comment on the a la carte / table service. We thought the buffet starter choice was very good and to a high standard. The carvery was also good and the meats were excellent and melting. As for the puddings....we wish we could have fitted more in! All very very good and delicious. The only reason we have given four stars and not five is the lack of a vegetarian option on the Sunday Lunch Menu. Luckily our vegetarian is not strict but, "come on chef! - vegetarians like Sunday Lunch too you know!"

Four of us had dinner at the The Ship on Saturday 23rd Feb. There was a large function on at the hotel and as a result the restaurant was empty, but the attentiveness of the staff and the lighting meant that it felt more intimate and less like eating in an empty room! I had scallops on cauliflour puree with borage and cumin oil which was sublime, My partner had the whitebait which was also delicious. Our mains were; the mushroom linguine, the plaice, the chicken (halabi?) and I had the grilled sea bass with brussel sprouts, pancetta, red chard and chestnuts. The food was cooked to perfection and the flavours were exquisite. Desserts were heavenly; pineapple carpaccio with mint sugar, chocolate brownie with pistachio ice cream and pancakes with orange sauce and vanilla ice cream. The food and wine was very reasonable priced and the service was perfect. My fiancee and I are having our wedding reception here in May and have eaten here with both sets of parents and not been disappointed with any aspect of the restaurant or hotel.

The Ship really surpassed them, putting on a 7 course tasting menu with a Burns Night theme. All the diners were seated at the same time and as each course was served Head Chef (Alex Standen) gave a short précis of the dish. Both the food & presentation were outstanding and it was clear that alot of thought had gone into all the components, with each dish complimenting the next. I love my food but generally when I have tried a 'tasting menu' I know by the time I've got home the cookers being lit to make an omlette. Well I can confirm that I did not get the munchies as I felt very nicely full. I understand that The Ship plan another such evening sometime in April and I would urge anybody who would like an excellent meal and at a very reasonable price to book a table soon......I will!! Having enjoyed a fabulous meal at The Ships restaurant, we thought we would give the bar food a go........The burgers were a winner; a Matts Monster & Chefs Special went down a complete treat. We have all seen the big adverts for the burger chain depicting the most wonderful, month watering burgers you have ever seen, then you are presented with the most disappointing of offerings, well the burgers at The Ship are the real deal! The Restaurant at The Ship Hotel can be highly recommended for the delicious and interesting lunches served by Alex Standen, the Head Chef, to the Ladies Luncheon Club who meet once a month.Alex is a very creative chef who always provides beautifully presented meals sourced from local suppliers. All the lunches are prepared with great care and attention. Alex is passionate about serving fresh, exciting dishes and the Ladies are very appreciative of the variety and quality of the lunches. Some of the starters we have particularly enjoyed are:*goats cheese, walnut, apple and beetroot salad*smoked duck, cauliflower, radish and hazelnut*cream of woodland mushroom soupThe main courses are always delicious:e.g. Cajun Salmon Supreme with Salad Chicken Breast wrapped in Parma Ham with new Potatoes, Chorizo and Hispi Cabbage Traditional Christmas Turkey Lunch with all the trimmingsThe favourite deserts are Lemon Tart and Eton Mess.We are fortunate to have such a great Restaurant in Weybridge with very good service.

This is a great place for lunch and dinner. Alex Standen, the Head Chef, provides an excellent and very interesting menu using locally sourced ingredients. He is a very experienced chef and has really put Gordon's Restaurant on the map in Weybridge by emphasising his fresh, seasonal style of cooking.Alex servces delicious and beautifully presented dishes at reasonable prices. The home-cured beetroot vodka gravlax with beef and radish salad is a great starter and the rib-eye steak with slow roast tomatoes is a really good main course. Lemon Tart is one of Alex's specialities for desert. Traditional Sunday Lunch is amazing value and cane be recommended. The Restaurant is attractively arranged and the service is good. The new General Manager is making a great impact on The Ship Hotel.

I have eaten at the Bear a few times and the food has been excellent. Unfortunately this time (Sunday night) I thought it wasn’t up to standard. Soup was watery, pork roast came without crackling, new potatoes were cold, tenderstem charred. They did offer my parents two free drinks/or pudding as they both had the watery soup. I think for the price, they need to get back on top of the quality of plates they are serving. The service we had however was excellent and the waitress was very friendly.

A lovely cafe inside Tesco. Friendly and attentive, with good food and coffees. Will be sorry to see H&H go from this Tesco pub early May. Wishing the staff well!

We stopped here for a break and something to eat after a long drive as it looked very welcoming from the outside. My wife ordered their jerk chicken with plantain. When it arrived she noticed there was no plantain and was really disappointed. She stopped a waiter and he said he would find out what had happened. He came back and said they were out of plantain, could he replace it with something else. She said ‘ok some fries’. He paused, pulled a face and then made a ‘maybe’ gesture and then said he would see what he could do. After about 10 minutes he came back with 2 breaded halloumi fries and said that this was a compromise as fries sold for £5 so they were not prepared to provide them. My first question is in what universe does breaded halloumi accompany jerk chicken? So they took our money for food they could not provide and said nothing. Then they put the plate with missing food on our table and said nothing. Then they were not prepared to swap the missing item for one of the most generic side dishes on the planet because they could sell it for more money. Bearing in mind breaded halloumi has got absolutely nothing in common with jerk chicken. This place really needs to try harder.
