We visit the cafe and shop a lot and never had a bad meal or experience! The staff are so lovely! Love all the different little boutiques! Cafe is lovely and really reasonable.! Great kids play area which is secure, my son loves coming here! My recently did a Santa visit after an awful experience elsewhere and the staff were so helpful booking us in to make sure my son got a space and a lovely experience. The Santa was wonderful, so interactive and lovely and the elf was great! My son loved the singing! The reindeers and marshmallows made the visit too (this event is only on for certain dates/times so please check with them). Thank you so much! Can’t wait to return in the new year for another visit.

Absolutely stale bread roll served to me this morning as sausage bap. Whoever prepared it must have known as it was dry and falling apart. As I was eating it a delivery of fresh baps was taken so I suspect I was given bread that was at least a day old. Not a good advert for Chatwins.

This morning arrived at 10 am for Breakfast and ordered 2 x Goostrey Breakfasts. Mine came first, the mushrooms were cold and the sausage lukewarm, bacon dry and looked as if it had been cooked the day before, plate was also luke warm Cold toast as well I sent the breakfast back together with the cold toast They brought the breakfast back, saying they had warmed it up in the microwave. My Husbands breakfast was slightly warmer. They sent the managers over, and she said, what did I want her to do about it? I said I was not paying for a warmed-up breakfast, she said she would get me another one., to which I refused as by now I was totally upset by the ordeal, of being expected to eat warmed up food She was unhelpful and both my husband and myself walked out with no breakfast What a terrible place, never again

Decided to get a late breakfast - 1030 ish. Service was good, timely & pleasant. Ordered a grand breakfast & goostrey breakfast. Neither was great - mushrooms & black pudding were cold as was the toast - disappointed ☹️ The cost is not cheap at £25 including drinks & you have to pay extra for thick toast which seems OTT. Used to visit here regularly but was put off by cost & cold food - won’t be top of the list for breakfast treat.

We visited for afternoon tea for a birthday celebration and were very impressed by the food - sandwiches, quiches, sausages rolls, scones, dainty cakes & macarons. They were all presented beautifully. The staff were polite, friendly and helpful when it came to dietary requirements. We weren't rushed and received just the right amount of attention. Very delicious and enjoyable although we couldn't finish it all! Great to be able to take home the left-overs.

We visited Goostrey Home and Leisure Cafe looking forward to a nice cooked breakfast, however this did not go to plan. After visiting, every staff member that approached our table was extremely rude. Goostrey is such a lovely village & this cafe certainly has huge potential. Unfortunately, I feel all staff need to be either replaced or trained to smile, with lessons in customer service!! Two members of our family are celiacs, this however was not treated like it should be (a serious illness). One of my family members requested two poached eggs on toast, this however came out on a small plate with a piece of un-toasted ciabatta bread. After approaching this with a member of staff, we was told that they had no gluten free bread left & that was a replacement. This was after the food was brought out. We was then brought an oat milk coffee, instead of what we requested ‘soya milk coffee’. Overall, I am absolutely disgusted with the level of customer service at this place & will never return to eat or drink here again. Management, please sort this shambles out & do not give goostrey a bad name for itself because of the levels of disappointment of this so called ‘cafe’.

Met by a cheery woman who promptly took us to our table. We have been coming to this coffee shop weekly for the last 3 years and have really enjoyed quality of the service and the food. This week our service was as follows:-We were taken to a dirty table. 15 minutes later, and asking 3 different waitresses, to clean the table our coffees arrived while the table was still dirty. - The coffees were not what we ordered, so these were kindly swapped.- We were not offered sugar or sauces.- We could have left without paying because no-one asked for payment and we had to wait 10 mins (and three staff members later) for the bill. - The bill has been different over the last 3 times of visiting. We are aware that our order amounts to £9.40 and last week were charged 10.40. This week we were charged £9.65. Last week I asked for the £1 back and was given it. This week I didn't bother. - Last week we received a chicken salad sandwich without chicken. We miss the young girl who used to keep everything running so efficiently, who has now left to work elsewhere. There is a new lady who is very positive and enthusiastic... Excuse the description but a curvy very blond lady with her hair tied back. One of the new staff needs to smile a little. There were plenty of staff, but their efficiency was lacking. The food was still good, but the whole experience has gone downhill since the change of staff.

Ok so first of all, this place is not renowned for its ‘speedy service’. Been frequenting (in hope) that one day they’ll get it right! Last Sunday had to ‘book’ a table ... . Ok... go with the (current) flow. 3 of us.. just coffee no food..(we explained this on presentation of menus). Sat for 10 mins.. . Called staff over to order . 25 minutes later!!!!! I kid you not!!! We were mesmerised by the superfluous staff taking food here there everywhere but NOT 3 coffees? Called someone else over.... mumbled some excuse...”oh there being made now” poor girl brought them over full of apologies! Not her fault admittedly BUT... it IS SOMEBODIES fault! It’s a complete shambles! Don’t give me the whole ‘coronavirus crap. It’s a shambles. And it’ll be a long cold winter before we return if ever.... were good solid regulars too. Prior to the corona virus crisis. I was a regular at this lovely tea room. And since March I have not been anywhere choosing to stay a home and self isolate. After reading the review posted here on the 12 July, which Is very helpful, I decided to venture out. So pleased I did. The dining area has been rearranged so there is plenty of space between tables. Plenty of hand sanitising stations. I felt safe. Only time I felt a little anxious is when a family ignored notice to wait to be seated and children were touching items on the food counter. But of course this is out of GHL control. I’m mentioning here so that if young families do read this they are aware that their actions can cause anxiety to the older generation. Other than that the food was as delicious as always and the service excellent.

We have been going to GHL for a while now and being over 70 have not ventured to any pubs, cafes or restaurants; that is until yesterday when we thought we would pay a visit to see how things were. We were very pleasantly surprised with the Covid safety measures: wait to be seated where there's hand sanitiser. Phone number and name taken down and shown to a freshly cleaned and well spaced table. Lovely helpful staff were wearing visors and the place looked clean and tidy. Menus are now laminated in order that they can be disinfected. There is not the usual choice but there's enough to keep you happy and well-fed!We will return as we are eager to support independent businesses like this. Speaking as somebody very worried about getting infected and who has not ventured out until a couple of weeks ago, I am more than happy to recommend this venue to nervous, possibly vulnerable people. Try it you won't be disappointed!

Been here many many times over the years. And every time the same mistakes are made. Over and over again! My BIGGEST bugbear is the fact that customers order this that the other, and then when told the amount, produce a card to make a payment (most people do these days. Take note). Customers are then informed that "only purchases of £5 and over are able to pay with card!"It happened to me, my bill was £4.85, but I didn't have a fiver, so had the major hassle of going to car to scrabble about looking for shrapnel!! Other waiting customers NOT happy! I said to the very young inexperienced Saturday staff (I assume? Because she really had no clue)I asked her where's the warning sign near the till? She shrugged...... not bothered! So I made a suggestion that they install a notice, allowing people to check they have 'cash' on them! Also, the very young staff seem to drift about not really knowing what to do with themselves whilst tables remain cluttered with dirty crockery! And even though the tables are numbered, at least 3 or 4 times in the past a waitress has come to our table to put food down which is clearly not ours, and then look bemused when we inform her she's got the wrong table......Last weekend my Mother and sister went in and both ordered soup, after 15/20 minute no show they beckoned a waitress who shrugged and said 'it must be on its way'. (Very helpful)After a further 5/10 mins they decided the moment had gone and they didn't want the soup anymore and my sister went to inform the chef, who said he had no knowledge of any order for soup!!!No apology nothing!!Dear God, please retrain your staff or employ older, more enthusiastic, experienced waiting staff!Current ones are neither use nor ornament I'm afraid! Shame

Called in at 10am on a Wednesday morning. 2 customers and 3 staff. Ordered full breakfast and cup of tea. Waited 30 mins for food to arrive so ordered second cup of tea. Breakfast was OK. £9 in total was expensive. No apology for slow service.

Been here a few times, it's nothing special although it does attract cyclist and today was quite busy with other people. GH&L has tried to distinguish itself from others places in the local area but not quite there yet

Visited with a friend today. There are lots of unusual things to buy and they are not over-priced. We had a lovely lunch. The tearoom staff were very helpful and the gluten-free breakfast was very nice, and the home-made (gluten-free) chips were lovely - the portion was very generous! We ate in the tearoom then ordered drinks to take outside, where there is seating and a nice play area for children. Very pleasant.

My daughter and I visited for afternoon coffee and cake , the restaurant was very busy , only 1 free table but we were served immediately at the counter by a very friendly young lady who took our order and said they would bring it over. In the meantime another girl had started clearing other tables which meant we had a choice where to sit. Our coffee , hot chocolate (with lots of fresh whipped cream and marshmallows!) and cakes arrived within 5 minutes by another friendly young girl and were freshly made and piping hot . The hot chocolate was a little too hot for my daughter so we asked the girl cleaning the tables if we could have some cold milk, she said no problem and immediately returned with a cute little churn of cold milk. We had a lovely time and I found the service and food quality excellent and great value for money, we will definitely be returning again soon!

First visit to Goostrey Home and Leisure, first impressions weren't that great, however the cafe is nice enough. Staff were aware of my dietary requirements which I had preinformed them of. Sandwiches were fresh, husband enjoyed the cakes so all in all a very good value afternoon tea in pleasant surroundings.

We visited on Sunday afternoon with our 18month old for him to play outside and for us to have lunch there. We were going to start with lunch as he was hungry! Three high-chairs were tucked away to the side of a large piece of furniture at the back of the restaurant. All three were the fold-out PVC seat variety. The first one we got out was filthy dirty and the PVC seat seams were all ripped making it all rough under his legs and round his shoulders. So we put that back and got the second one out, which was still filthy but at least not ripped. However when we began folding it out continue to fold until it got so low it was obvious it was broken. The third one was a different design and did look to be newer and cleaner but it was tucked so far behind the piece of furniture that we were not able to get at it without doing some pretty hefty lifting. Such a shame that somewhere that specifically advertises as child-friendly was not even able to provide a high chair and we ended up having to leave and go elsewhere. Very disappointing as had looked forward to adding it to somewhere for us to go with him where he could play as well as letting us eat and shop a little. Several staff noticed us struggling as we were near the serving counter and they were in and out to the kitchen but not one smiled let alone offered to help or ask if we were OK.

We have visited a couple of times with the groupon afternoon tea deal , which on both occasions have been great. Looking at the menu prices and quality of food going out I thought was very reasonable and would definitely go again. I think afternoon teas in general are quite expensive anywhere but on a deal well worth the visit. There's a few shops to visit and a brilliant sewing shop which has classes and amazing range of materials.

Just returned from an afternoon tea from this establishment. During the booking procedure on the internet I was asked if I had any dietary requirements which I do so I stated these on my booking. On arrival at the venue I was at first quite impressed by the way I was treated as the girl was very attentive and took note of my allergens and offered substitutions where appropriate as some of the fillings were unsuitable (cost me £1 extra for a quarter of a ham sandwich as I was told it was meat and meat ones were not included in the cost) This I paid and thought nothing of it and went and sat down. Not long after the pot of tea arrived which was a pot for 2 people (half full) with 2 small cups available to each of us. When the food arrived we had been given a mixed cheese which I myself am allergic to artificial colourings which ruled out red cheese. I began to try to explain and politely said that I didn't realise that the cheese was mixed as it is not normally an issue as not many places serve coloured cheese anymore. I was advised that they were unable to provide a plain natural white cheddar as it was all mixed up and in any instance I should have informed them of this beforehand to avoid issues. Before I could explain she huffed and puffed and removed the food and returned it to the kitchen. Upon it's return to the table 10 mins later we had been given 8 quarters of sandwiches total of which 6 were egg mayo and 2 of fatty ham and margarine. I went back to the counter to complain as to have 2 egg mayo in a SELECTION is fine but when 3/4 of them are of 1 variety it is rather alot and to have paid extra for this I felt was appalling. I was greeted by the 1st lady who I dealt with at the start and her manner changed immediately, she became hostile to the point of shouting and to be fair I was taken aback and was shocked and disgusted by the appalling way I was then spoken to by her. The lady (if you can call her that) was rude beyond belief right down to trying to start a heated confrontation in a cafe full of customers which i find highly unprofessional. She told me that they had never had any other complaints and that I should have been greatful that they had changed any of my order and we should have been greatful for what we had been served as it should have cost us £16 not £8 which she thought was an excellent value for money. (not the point). Ok so at this point I was starting to feel quite annoyed by the situation myself and was close to getting up and walking out. She sarcastically asked me what I expected her to do and I just said that 4 of ham and 4 of egg would have been fine 50/50. She still continued to voice her opinion that I should have been greatful but in the end she went to the kitchen and returned with 2 further ham fat and margarine sandwiches which she plonked on the table and asked me " IF I WAS SATISFIED NOW". I wasn't willing to rise to the bait and just accepted them. By now we of course had no hot drinks so returned to the counter for more tea to which we were charged a further £2.60 to refresh the half filled pot of tea. Upon inspection of the quality of the offerings the sandwiches that were served I felt were of very poor standard using the cheapest products known to humankind. The scones were that heavy they reminded me of gluten free bread that would have put a window out and the Mr Kipling cake slices were crusty and dry around the edges. Needless to say I will not be returning to this venue and to be fair I think I would need to be paid to revisit.

This place has a vast amount of things for children to play on. However don’t expect to get food quick- they have two cage areas but one is never open and the other has a constant huge queue because the staff take forever! Even if you want drinks you have to queue with the food and last time we queued for 25 minutes! Ridiculous when you have children to supervise and feee!

The most appalling 'meal' and service that I have ever been subjected to. We ordered steak and ale pie and this was brought out to us and placed on our table and described as a pie. However, there was absolutely no pastry, just a bit of gravy in a dish. When I called the waiter back he said 'to be honest, we've ran out of pastry' - are these people for real? To add insult to injury, the manager actually tried to charge us for the pies we never received!!!! Shambolic and not for the first time, but definitely for the last. DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME/MONEY!!!!

Average food more like a pub, raw onion in the scotch egg bhaji, bang bang cauliflower poor, fish and chips were tiny and fish dry. So over priced for below average food.
