Gooseberry Bush in Nottingham

It's a nice enough Wetherspoons. Lots of students during term time as it's situated at the end of the road where the halls of residence are so it can on occasion be full of loud amateur drinkers cluttering up the watering hole.

This Wetherspoons is my go-to in Nottingham, especially for students. It can get crowded, but if you're quick to snag a seat, it’s a top spot for affordable pre-drinks with friends. The food is fantastic—those chicken wings are seriously amazing—and the prices for ale are unbeatable. Daytime visits are great, and it becomes a lively student hub in the evenings during term time. The beer selection could be wider, and the alcohol-free options are limited (still hoping for Guinness Zero), but the excellent service and friendly staff make up for it. Plus, coffee with refills at £1.25 is a deal I’ll keep coming back for!

It's a Wetherspoons, so you know what to expect. Chicken burger was basic, but not bad. Food came with a beer. Also, lots of vegetarian and vegan options too. They also had a range of beers for £1.99 - brands you will have heard of too. Very happy with that!!

Great atmosphere good meal cheap drinks all good .....😊 another revisit on 5 November well what can I say much improved from my last visit clean tables clean glasses enjoyed the meal great service bang on well done to the staff and manager. 👍

Food wasn't particularly great. Staff were polite ensuring we knew where the coffee machine was.

Had breakfast here on a little holiday and it was nice but very busy and loud. But the service was great and we got our orders quickly.

Great Wetherspoons for students, can get overcrowded but if you are quick enough to get a seat then its a great place for pre-drinks with your mates on a budget. Food is cheap and cheerful, atmosphere is great and service is fast, what more could a student want?

Always good for breakfast. Lots of beers to choose from. Beloved by students and rightly so.

I like this Spoons as a student. Positive - Nice vibe. Service is often quick even with food. Polite bouncers. Good drinks in the right glasses. Fair priced. Negatives - Can be hard to get a table sometimes. Often very cramped. Not enough chairs for the tables.

Nice weatherspoons, not your typical "city 'spoons" out of the way, seemed quite quiet at time of vist .quite nice , fast service on food and drinks

If you fancy a quiet beer this is not the place for you. Full of loud students shouting over each other. Staff are nice though.

I’m in NorthYorksh’ & rung them because Grandaughter going to Nott’ Univ’ there in 2 weeks. Whoever answered the phone @GooseBerry Spoons was wonderful:-Empathic/Listening/helpful. I asked about Hotel rooms, she said they didn’t but mentioned a cheap hotel up the road. & helpful regarding v your new small breakfast. When I visit my Grandaughter, I’ll Definitely call in & visit there too ThankYou 🧡

I visited this restaurant for breakfast and had a disappointing experience. The coffee machine wasn’t working, and despite being told it would be fixed, it remained broken. When we informed the staff again, they were dismissive and rude. After waiting without any updates, we left without receiving the drinks we had paid for. A little politeness from the staff would have made a big difference.

Need to clamp down on smoking in non smoking area staff always friendly never have to wait long at the bar no matter how busy it is food has slipped not always hot but otherwise enjoy our visits there

Good Wetherspoons for daytime visits, busy student haunt during termtime evenings. It's not the best beer selection, and the alcohol free options are limited (Guinness Zero please) but it's a pleasant modern spoons with great staff. Coffee plus refills only £1.25, monthly visits will continue .

My Favourite spoons in Nottingham. Been coming here since before it was a spoons. The food is as you would expect and the service is rapid.

Food in here getting worse and worse. Dragged in on a lorry and reheated to order. The coffee refills used to be the redeeming feature however these machines often don't work now. Coffee luke warm and leaves a bitter taste.

Terrible handling of customer complaints. Odd policies on refunds which still wasn’t completed by the time I decided to give up and leave. Genuinely will reconsider eating at any of Wetherspoons establishments.

Posh! Gorgous spoons. In heart of student land. Students not here at the moment as they've gone home for summer. This spoons is empty compared to town spoons. Walked here, but plenty of modes of transport nearby.

Really nice pub The food is consistently good, staff always pleasant. It s the best wetherspoon in town. To boot, today a kind member of staff ran after me to give me the raincoat I forgot.

I absolutely loved this quirky place, it was quiet on the 2 occasions I visited, the gentleman who served me on both occasions was friendly and polite, the breakfast was terrible but beggars can't be choosers and I still managed to eat most of it.

An unusual facade and building we were drawn to the Gooseberry Bush.  Originally a women's hospital, it is now owned by Weatherspoon.  Deceptively large inside with a raised outdoor terrace.  A reasonably pleasant view from the terrace.

Ordered eggs benidict here the food was cold ans the eggs were hard 😩

Another excellent Wetherspoons, poor parking. Service, food and prices very good. Again, lower price breakfast than other spoons. Freedom breakfast.

Not been for a long time. But went for mix grill, only to find it off menu. So had a burger thingy,but that was not good but the accompany chips were excellent. So yeah not my best tea time experience. Regards samantha.meeow

Waitress with purple hair was soooo rude. Me and my friends moved table to the one next to it and when we told her she started getting very hostile. When showing our receipts for our food she snatched my phone out my hand and then slammed my chicken on the table. She then proceeded to gossip about us to her colleagues and point at us. This is disgraceful teach her some manners :)

One of the best Weather spoons outlets in Nottingham that still serves American breakfast. I walked miles from different weather spoons just to get to this outlet and it was worth the long walk and patience.

It was a a day, a day just like any other day, but a day like NO other day. That day breakfast needed to be ate, it wanted to be devoured, it had to be enjoyed, it yearned to be ravished like Jayne Torvill tumbling over Mr Dean's Bolero. And yo, like a beacon of hope, like an oasis in the dusky wilderness of Nottingham's plains, stood a bush. This bush was no ordinary bush. It was a bush of berries and berries made of the finest of fine geese. Yes a geesebush. Breakfast was duly ordered. A white knight set about preparing said feast. He was good at his job. He could work a microwave like any master craftsmen could master their tools. Sadly he didn't seem to be able to master a toaster and lo, the finest of bland white bread was served just as nature intended, still cold and still very bland. The rest of the banquet was cooked to a satisfactory and so the Gooseberry Bush delivered like a bush made of the finest geese.

Absolutely ridiculous, they would not let my friend in because she was ‘drunk’, but in reality had only had two drinks and had done nothing to make them think she was over the limit. They were incredibly rude to us when we tried to ask why she wasn’t being let in and were especially rude to my friend and did not let her prove to them that she was an appropriate level - we will NEVER be coming to this sooons in the future - absolutely disgusted with the bouncers behaviour- I am so appauled by the bouncers behaviour. As a work group we go once a month for a breakfast and we have never had any issues , nice and quite and it's a lovely location nice chilled vibe

We tried to order through the app and had an issue with order, went to speak with bartender to sort it out and she was rude and didn't want to help to solve problem, worst experience ever, hope you will get rid that kind of staff. Left pub asap, avoid this place

Great place, unfortunately for older folks easier to use the app then wait at the bar.

Decent spoons, gets busy with students all the time so therefore drinks take ages to come bar or ordered. But it is again a spoons. Ps: decent outside area

Service was absolutely shocking when we went 13/01/23 - staff were incredibly rude and we left early because of how they spoke to us. Very sarcastic and spoke down to us with absolutely no reason to whatsoever. Food was fine classic spoons food. Some of the staff were doing a good job but two servers in particular embarrassed themselves with the way they conducted themself.

Fairly standard pub, not much going on at the time but good size and prices. Also used online ordering.

Me and my family went here for breakfast and it was really lovely. Staff were really lovely and the [lace was clean. The food was really nice and it was plated well. The price is brilliant as well.

One of Nottinghams more pleasant Wetherspoons pubs. Nice ambiance and great food. Staff are pleasant and tables constantly cleaned and cleared. I had the Xmas dinner with a free pint. Excellent ale and the dinner perfect. Veggie options and dietary requirements catered for as for all J. D. wetherspoons. WHEELCHAIR ACCESSIBLE.

Never been before, food was great, service could be improved, by letting customers know where to go for hot water for tea.

Found a long strand of hair in my food. Not a very clean restaurant. Most of the tables are sticky. When we asked staff to clean it for us they told us to just sit somewhere else. Staff not very helpful

Food was ok at best, however could be a lot better (I suspect the fryer oil hadn’t been changed in a while.) The waiter wanted to be elsewhere and took offence to a simple query - not all customers are regulars. Atmosphere was grim, I think the cemetery down the road had more life. Also you should really clean plates and cutlery in the kitchen not in the customer dining area.

Great pub in a quiet neighborhood but well supported. Atmosphere is relaxed and a lot less hassle than the alternative in the town centre. £2.06 for va point of Stowford Press at the time of writing - can't complain about that!

Good old classic weatherspoons, beer is well priced and so is food as long as you know what to expect from a weatherspoons meal. Well kept interior and quick service. Can't fault 3 drinks and 3 meals for less than £30

Above poshness for Wetherspoons near a city centre. Service was really good and the staff smiled and chatted. Normal Wetherspoons food served at great value but not special in any way, still a good breakfast. The pub is just off the Net Team route, get off at Trent University or Highschool and walk down the hill, just up and high up on Peel Street. This is the former Women's Hospital hence the Goosebury Bush, get it, Babies born here, so was my brother. Not sure what the pub is like at weekend evenings or any evening. Sunday morning when the students aren't around, its quiet.

This is a wetherspoons in the student area on edge of city centre.At present you can have breakfast at £2.99,refill hot drink at.99.All day brunch with soft or refill hot for£4.59,plus other good deals.For real ale drinkers the beer has been in very good condition on my visits.The pub though modern has a pleasant atmosphere,and built next to the old womans hospital. Being in the student area it gets very relaxed and uncrowded during summer and when students are away.If you find you have to queue up at maybe short-staffed city centre spoons,why not take a relaxing stroll up to the Gooseberry Bush.I don't think you will be disappointed.

A lovely bar, just off the main part of town therefore mostly locals only and very clean and friendly too.

Good for a quick working lunch.

Pubs are the best place to eat in england, not tiring junk food. cheapest place to get good proper food. So much better for your body than fast food. Sausage quality is very low, every other product I have liked. Very rapid service, 2 different terraces, very close to the arboretum for a romantic stroll after lunch.

5 stars outside of Uni term time, less during. You guessed it, I'm no longer a student. Bar staff very attentive but female manager a bit odd. Good Wetherspoons with with windows you can watch drug dealing from... Ladies loos cd do with the plumbing looking at. 4/7/23 New manager, staff seem happier, I am happier!

I LOVE the Gooseberry Bush! What better way to kick back and relax after a long shift at NTU library than with a pint and 6 peanut butter whisky shots? Highly recommend the £10 pinot grigio bottle. Will definitely be coming back!

Quick and efficient service, relaxed atmosphere. Visited twice whilst visiting nearby Premier Inn (once for dinner, once for breakfast) and can recommend. Both meals arrived promptly and as per the menu description. Staff all polite and friendly. Bar and toilets clean. No complaints whatsoever.

Having just moved into the area this is now our local. Loads of choice of drinks compared to other spoons I’ve been to. 2 nice terraces one of which gets the sun all afternoon. Clean pub, friendly staff, great prices.

Situated near Nottingham Trent University this is a very studenty pub. However good for a quick dinner with ususal Wetherspoons fare.

Our family was eating a meal today and we saw a homeless fella come in pay for a coffe then at the dispenser a doorman or security told the homeless fella to leave with out his drink !! Of course my children were horrified at this which made the experience alittle less for us, as being as they saw him pay then was told to leave ... So upsetting for my girls and I we won't be venturing into here again .
