Golden Phoenix in Windsor and Maidenhead

Tasteless food, greasy chicken balls, the worst curry sauce. The only positive was the portion size. First time ordering here upon recommendation but sadly will be last.

Not sure why it's listed as closed as it is definitely open! AMAZING vegan menu and everything I ordered tasted 10/10. Can't wait to try more options!

Beware. Poor communication, they dont listen to phone order clearly, or want to clarify or confirm the order. Missing basic phone order etiquettes They werein a hurry to put the phone down before my teenage son could ask them confirm the charges. They did not quote the additional charge of £1.00 for more heat ! They ended up over-charging, dishonest staff !

Ordered the A2 and the chicken curry recipe has changed it the chef has changed. It tasted awful and it has really put me off. Rang the takeaway and the lady was not willing to take my feedback. I doubt I will ever order again.

The Golden Phoenix always produces a tasty and well prepared meal every time we order a take away. The staff are always charming, helpful and efficient but sometimes they surpass themselves. Our local, very local Chinese take away recently changed hands, and the food supplied was not as good as before. So we started to use others, none of which matched the quality that we used to get, until we got to trying the Golden Phoenix last night. I wish we had started with the Golden Phoenix. The quality of the food was excellent the portions very generous, reasonably priced and after picking it up and being served by a very friendly and extremely polite member of staff, the food when transferred to our plates was still piping hot, and extremely enjoyable. The food was excellent, service excellent, I would highly recommend the Golden Phoenix, we have now stopped trying any other Chinese Takeaway, we have found our new local, albeit a further distance, but well worth the extra distance. My husband and I randomly came across this place when we moved to the area and we haven't stopped going there since. Every time the service is the best I've seen in any takeaway place. The owner and her daughter are always so happy and positive when they see you and have a great aura about them. This also reflects in each of the dishes we've tried and keep going back for more and it's the same excellent quality every time without fail. They now know us I'm sure since we go there weekly and thought they don't have enough recognition that they deserve! You can always count on Golden Phoenix being fresh and tasty each time! Wish i could rate this place higher than 5 stars!

We were looking for a Chinese that was open for take away after lockdown and found Golden Phoenix by chance. Decided to order and was so glad we did. Amazing service, the place was spotless when we arrived to collect, and the food was fantastic. It is now going to be our 'go to' place for our Chinese treat!!

Been going to GP for years and we’ve never had a disappointing dish. Always tasty, always hot, great staff and usually quick quick if you phone ahead. We love their spring rolls, duck, ribs, noodles, satay dishes, chilli fried dishes, sweet & sour - in fact there’s very little we don’t like! Well done to Vivienne, Maxine, and the team!

My family were staying nearby and after putting the kids to bed we decided to try the golden phoenix, we were not dissappointed the food was delicious the service was quick and the choice was as you would expect. the chichen balls were not overly greasy and I do tend to judge a place on this :-)

Been here a few times now and every time the food has been delicious! The staff are also so friendly (especially the young lady who runs the front desk), and occasionally they give you free chocolates with your order!

Fantastic takeaway, superbly cooked classic Chinese takeaway, at a very fair price. Service very swift and pleasant. Prawns in ginger and spring onion was perfect. Don't forgot to get yourself a cheeky perfect spring roll as well!

When I moved to Holyport I was tasked with finding a good Chinese Take Away! Golden Phoenix is without the best in the area and would highly recommend. Great staff, great food. 10/10.

I tried this Chinese take away based on the high rating on trip advisor. I was really impressed by the service. When I called they were super friendly and helpful telling me where to find the menu. I phoned back to order and they said the food would be 20 minutes. I arrived and the food was almost ready. I was offered a free bar of chocolate - very welcome! We’ve just eaten and portion sizes were generous and the quality was excellent. We will definitely go again.

There are plenty of Chinese takeaways in Maidenhead but Golden Phoenix is in my view far the best. The service is friendly and the food is always cooked quickly. Prices are reasonable and the menu is classic but well cooked.

We only ever use Golden Phoenix. The food is well priced, the staff are very friendly, and the food is tasty and hot. Crispy duck is normally very good. If you spend about £30+ you also get a bar of chocolate or a bag of sweets, which always goes down well with the kids

Really great food and service. We’ve been using this take away for more than 20 years and it’s our favourite Chinese. Friendly people, same smile, same service, same food. We generally order: crispy duck, egg fried rice, sweet and sour chicken balls, chicken and cashew nuts, beef in black bean sauce, plain chow mein, chilli beef, prawn in ginger and spring onion

We ordered a take away from here recently. They have a huge menu and the food tasted great. The lady who served us was lovely and really friendly. And the food was ready quickly, plus we got a free, large chocolate bar, great addition for when you fancy something a little sweet after

I liked my house special combination meat with vegetables and oyster sauce. More of a braise then stir fry. Lots of sauce. Tasy. My husband did not enjoy his curry sauce chicken as much. It was ok. Good value and appreciated the complimentary prawn crackers.

Got home to find that the the lady had left a dish out. I opened and tasted mine. Jelly chicken absolutly tasteless. Asked for oak Choi but he put in extra cashew nuts. It was inedible even my dog wouldn’t eat the chicken. Avoid like the plague. No apology.

Enjoyed fried rice, veg chow mien, spring rolls, sweet and sour chicken Hong Kong style and peking chicken. Prawn crackers thrown in free.

Highly recommend this friendly and efficient Chinese takeaway. Order taken accurately, food hot and well cooked and if you spend about £30 you get a free bar or bag of chocolate. Kids always want to come and pick up the takeaway for that reason. I have tried other takeaways in Maidenhead but this one is best Chinese. You won't be disappointed.

All the dishes here are mouth watering, and top quality, The Beef in Oyster sauce has to be the best I've had anywhere, and I have never had a bad dish from here, when I am in the area, I only ever go here for Chinese food, you really out to try this place...

Para llevar el clásico chino en el REINO UNIDO tiende a ser sucio, desagradable y atendidos por personas que se comportaban como si les preguntamos si tenían servicio que podría tener su visa.

Obviamente un lugar favorito con muchos como en Pedidos Nochebuena salíamos. Pedimos pollo al curry con arroz frito, una porción de patatas fritas y una sopa caliente y amarga.

Esta es la mejor comida para llevar china en la zona, no llega, pero se obtiene una fantástica bienvenida cuando vas y recoger. No nos vamos a ningún otro lugar

Saturday night out, no need to book, very good service, good food and super service, would go again with friends or family.

Best take away in the area, always worth a visit! Really enjoy all of their dishes, the package meals where you get a bit of everything are a winner. Spare ribs are tops.

Maybe it is because there so much better food outlets in Maidenhead that this one stands out as being average at best. The menu is uninspiring. The food was not great and the service was stand offish. It is OK if you are in bridge street and really want a Chinese takeaway otherwise we would go elsewhere.

We've been going here for years and it's always been good. There are two problems that I can see: firstly, they don't deliver. But I can overcome that as it's only a five minute walk. Secondly, it's quite expensive. They just raised all the prices and they've gone up significantly. Still worth it though.

Large order for 5 people - courteous clear manner on phone taking order - on collection offered a free bar of chocolate to my nephew's delight! We all thoroughly enjoyed our meal - cooked well and the vegetables were lovely too - not all mushy like some meals we have had. Well done to the chefs! See you soon

I want to say so magnificent restaurant, how can there be so bad service attitude. Today we in the restaurant order six dishes, they only give us on the five dishes, waiting for a few minutes I had to ask the waitress who short hair, why we called Roast Duck hasn't come? Who help our order called Tony people say that we have not called! By this time Tony use Chinese and the short hair of the waitress said "don't care about her, her nerves, she did not call"I think in here and you say, although I told you I come from France, but I in China lived for five years, I can understand what you say in Chinese. In the end did not take our meals to fill, finally settle accounts when who short haired waitress pointed bill said "Service Charge Not Included", I can only say the two waiter service attitude is really bad!

Have been to this family run Chinese takeaway many times over the years. They are always warm and friendly and the food is amazing. My friends even come from Windsor and Langley to collect food from here. We are never disappointed.

Given the reviews, we were expecting for more from Golden Phoenix. The food just lacked flavour and the chicken was oddly reconstituted - not as fresh as were hoping for. Friendly service and good noodles.

After reading the good reviews about this place I decided to give it a go and try a new Chinese take away in Maidenhead. My sweet and sour chicken was not what I expected - it was battered chicken that tasted as a processed one and just a sauce, which was very vinegary. No vegetables or pineapple I am used to. The duck with pineapple was good, chicken satay was ok. Banana toffee a bit hard to eat. On the whole I would say an average Chinese takeaway. It might be cheaper than others but not better. The service is good and friendly though no delivery.

The capital spare ribs are awesome! We live over 30 minute drive away now and still Golden Phoenix is our 'local' takeaway.Friendly service and consistent quality.

Golden Phoenix has become our local takeaway restaurant thanks to delicious Chinese food and even greater service. The order is normally completed in about 15 minutes and the takeaway lady always greets with a huge smile. The only criticism would be that I wished they did delivery too.P.S. I can only comment on Veggie food. I would particularly recommend tofu in yellow bean sauce with cashew nut. My favourite!

I'm not a great fan of Chinese food.. But when my boys fancied a Chinese I checked on trip advisor and the Golden Phoenix has some good reviews and I'm really pleased I found them! Fantastic friendly service (even got a chocolate orange) the food was fantastic.. None of,that gloopy stuff that I find I'm normally faced with when it comes to Chinese. Just really fresh, well flavoured dishes, the crispy won ton was a real treat! Highly recommend and after 20 years of turning my nose up at Chinese - I've been turned!

A couple weeks ago my girlfriend and I went in for some Chinese food. The service was outstanding, they treated us with the utmost care. And upon hearing of my girlfriend's allergy, they tailored our order to accommodate. The food was quick, came in the perfect size proportions to be split between two and given the menu meal we ordered we had more than enough dishes for an affordable price. Each dish we had was of a good standard if not the best Chinese in the area.

I've lived in Maidenhead since graduating decades ago... but hadn't been to the 'Golden Phoenix' for yonks until this month. Been twice and quite happy to say it is a excellent restaurant... the nice lady on the front desks is very polite and amusing but obviously it is the food that counts and it is, as the reviews on here say, absolutely great and also pretty good value. Maidenhead needs some work doing on its food - Bray aside - but this place is a handy little spot.

Super friendly staff. Family run, I believe. The food is always excellent. I usually have Hong Kong pork with chicken fried rice and chicken balls. The Mrs. Likes the black Bean and egg fried rice. The chicken curry is also very good there. Shredded duck is a must have from here too! Portion sizes are excellent.

I hadn't had a Chinese meal for a while, so I decided to come here for a pre-work meal after having heard that this was supposed to be the best Chinese takeaway in the area. I ordered a few things off of the menu and while a couple of the items were fairly average, the main dish was really nice and much better than average. For Chinese food, this may be the place to go in Maidenhead, but don't expect much from the chips.The menu here is quite small in comparison to most Chinese restaurants and there aren't that many different dishes available. However, all of the staples are there so if you like Chinese food, there will be something you like on the menu. Just don't expect anything a little more exotic. They do a few English dishes as well in omelettes, which are something of a staple for a Chinese takeaway in the UK. I usually just order a portion of chips and one main dish, but having heard good things about their spring rolls, I decided to give these a try. As well as the spring rolls I ordered the house special in Szechuan sauce, a portion of chips and some prawn crackers.I was a little disappointed with the spring rolls, especially after having heard good things about them. While they were a really generous size and there was plenty inside, the filling consisted of far too much beansprouts in comparison to everything else which meant that, along with the coating, it was all you could taste and the rest of the different ingredients inside were simply wasted. Unfortunately the fillings didn't add much texture-wise due to the volume of the beansprouts and had I not seen them inside, I would have assumed the spring rolls contained nothing but beansprouts. I also thought that they seemed to be a little too deep-fried, which resulted in an overly crispy and strong-tasting coating.The house special in Szechuan sauce was absolutely superb and probably amongst the best you will find in any British takeaway anywhere. The sauce had a nice strong flavour to it that was both a little sweet and a little spicy, finding a perfect balance between the two so that it was neither too spicy or too sweet. The mix of prawns, beef and pork went together well as they always do and while they hadn't used top of the range ingredients, they were much better than you would find in most Chinese takeaways and they didn't seem to have cheaped out here like many do.I was quite disappointed with the chips too, although I wouldn't say that they were bad. They had a nice balance between the crispy coating and a light fluffy inside, although the difference wasn't all that vast. However, they were unfortunately a little on the bland side and a few of them, mainly the ones on top, had been overcooked, which led to a somewhat bitter taste. Despite the negatives taste-wise, this was easily remedied by some salt and pepper, which you have to supply yourself as they don't carry it here. The prawn crackers were simply prawn crackers and were no better or worse than you find in any other Chinese takeaway.I thought that the service here was really good for a takeaway. Usually they have little to do other than take your order and give you the food, but the lady behind the counter here was really friendly and engaged in pleasant conversation with the customers, which is something that you usually don't see at all in Chinese takeaways. The food also seemed to be cooked to order as there was a fair wait between placing the order and it being handed over, which is pleasant to see as often the waiting time is far too short.I thought that the value here was excellent for a Chinese takeaway as most of the items on the menu were a good way below the average asking prices in most other Chinese takeaways that I have been to. As an added bonus the prawn crackers, which I wanted to order anyway, were supplied free of charge. I'm not entirely sure why, as it wasn't explained to me very clearly and I didn't really ask, but I believe that they were free due to the fact that I had ordered three items from the menu. I wasn't expecting this at all as freebies like this are something that you very seldom see in Chinese takeaways.For a Chinese takeaway, the place looked quite nice. There wasn't much in terms of decoration, other than single painting behind the counter and a small plant. However, as this place serves only as a Chinese takeaway and doesn't double up as a fish and chip shop, it looked much better than most of its brethren and the black and white colour scheme gave the front area a nice and clean appearance.

I have been a regular customer for years now and it never disappoints! great menu to choose from, prompt service, and friendly staff - what not to like? I don't mind driving an extra mile at all. Wonton soup is my fav as well as prawns - yum!!

Just wonderful. Always fresh and tasty food. I thoroughly recommend the peking feast as you get a great mixture of food for brilliant value! The spring rolls are HUGE and flavoursome! I also highly recommend their aromatic lamb, it's cooked the say way as the duck and it is just to die for!! And the staff in there are so lovely too :)If you haven't been there already, make sure you do! You will not be disappointed!

We visited with Chinese friends and all of us were quite impressed, the dishes we tried were all freshly prepared, tasty, well seasoned. The interior is very nice , I'd recommend this place without hesitation.

We regularly visit the Golden Phoenix, probably weekly, and the food is always consistently good, friendly service with a smile always received. I would highly recommend this takeaway for chinese food. It's the best place to go in Maidenhead!

I actually haven't had a takeaway from here for quite a while, but behind its functional 80s exterior, the Golden Phoenix actually produces some very decent chinese takeaway food. Not outstanding, and not amazing value for money (Although some of the meal deals are pretty cheap) but definitely a decent feed. They don't deliver, but I'm guessing from the building and signage they've been in the game quite a while, so they must be doing something right. Also the lady who always seems to be behind the till always has a smile, which I presume is no mean feat for someone who spends most of their evenings serving people in a chinese takeaway.Not mind-blowingly awesome, but a solid choice for those in the local area in need of a chinese takeaway.

Get your chinese from here, its streaks ahead of anywhere else in maodenhead. The food tastes amazing and is never greasy like a lot of Chinese takeaway food. Il say no more.
