After spending 100s of pounds yesterday afternoon as a group of 13,we were rudely told by a young lad with big ears working behind the bar to be quiet. We weren’t boisterous or using foul language and it was early Saturday evening for goodness sake !! He didn’t mind us spending our ££ in there,so we drunk up and swiftly left…absolutely terrible customer service and we will not return, costing them a lot of £££ !! Avoid if you want to enjoy yourself !!

We had a lovely drink in here our first night in Whitby. Wanted to go back in tonight however I was shouted at by the barman (who was outside having a fag) for encouraging my dog to have a wee opposie the bar before we went in. Yes, I am aware that people live in the flats above the shops (we are staying in one), but dogs do tend to pee up posts and that's true for every town we visit! Needless to say we won't be spending money here again. Such a shame that these reviews haven't been noted and this guys attitude changed.

We visited on 6 Nov and had a lovely session here. Cider was great (so good I had three), 0% Guinness for hubby was fab too. Barman very hospitable and background music was just right! I recommend this lovely, authentic pub

I have been here many times and thought it was good but they have a horrible, loud and aggressive barman so will never return. It was empty the whole time I was there this time and I presume it is because of him. If I was the owner I would fire him immediately.

Started off very nice group of friends meeting whilst on holiday. Barman seemed very nice there was a problem with the draught coke so i waited without complaint. Went back to the bar and the he barman refused to serve us as he felt we were loud and boisterous. If he thought we were a problem he could have come and talked to us and we would have quietened down. Told us he wasn't serving us anymore Fxxxxxg drinks. Told us to leave cause he couldn't be Fuxxxxxg bothered with us. Customer service at its worse. And how the place is able to stay open is beyond me. Obviously don't need the money. Very sad as having a bar with atmosphere is paramount at this time and the best way to make money.

Not the absolutely awful experience others have described, but be warned this is not a proper chippy. Most of the produce is bought in and cooked from frozen including the chips. The sausages also appeared to have been left under the heating lamp for about 12 hours too long. Turning to our meal, it was £26.90 for a fish and chips; sausage and chips; 6 nuggets and curry sauce - that is somewhat on the pricey side even for a half decent chippy. That's before we even review what we actually received. As I mentioned, everything we got was perfectly edible, but nothing is made in house. The fish was quite tasty, but very small. The kids refused to eat the £5.99 nuggets (I managed them so nothing wasted, but terrible value for what you get as they are very much basic frozen nuggets hand tossed into the frier from a blue plastic bag). We did manage to get some freshly cooked sauagages and these were actually perfectly fine. However, as with any chippy, the chips should be the foundation on which it's built - and if these are anything to go by, this place should have crumbled into the sea years ago. Serving frozen chips is a travesty. Having the audacity to charge £4 a pop for them should be criminal. When you consider that the cod and chips combined was £12.98, you'd be better served heading next door to the on site 'spoons and have the fish and chips from there. Yes, it's all still cooked from frozen, but it's a better portion, open later, you get a table to eat it at, and they throw in a pint for just 67p more. Winner winner.

No cash!!!! I really do disrespect any company that won’t accept our own currency. The pizza was ok not great, the staff did their job. Accept cash when it’s offered, people work hard for their money and it shouldn’t be refused. 2 million people in the UK don’t have bank accounts and no one should be refused paying in money they have earned or withdrawn from a ATM.

Used to go here quite often but don't anymore over last years it's gone down hill compared to others in Filey. Food is overpriced and poor portion sizes too. boards on the wall show most food with all blacked out prices which I find dodgey as then any price can be made up. There were a few times before where I've added up the cost of things that are priced on the wall but end up being charged 50p to £1 more so I've just stopped going there altogether. None of the pizzas are freshly made either everything bought frozen out of a box unlike others in Filey who make their pizzas from scratch.
