This is a take away and the best one in strood . Fish top class same as the chips and they do crackling plus a really lovely girl serving makes you feel welcome

Food is overpriced and average at best. Even when it’s cooked fresh the batter on the cod is still somehow immediately soggy.

Fri-yay! This is our local "go to" fish and chip shop. We prefer to order when we visit but they will take orders over the phone. Just remember it's strictly cash payment only! Prices and portions seem reasonable and good value. I usually I have cod and chips, the cod is always cooked while I wait, very good quality, good in size, in my opinion. The batter is tasty and not to thick either. The chips are mostly just right, usually drained well, not too crispy but soft. Be quick to get them home and open, as they can get soggy with the heat when freshly cooked! The place could do with a refresh but Chinese staff are always friendly and quick to serve....4/5

Worst place ever now new owners they don't no how to cook three man drop chips then put them into the fryer and thought I still wanted the food omg couldn't believe it I demand for my money back I said money back or I call the police they did give my money back after I told them straight they have no allergy forms and won't even tell you what they cook with they do not know how to cook do not go there

Been using this place for over 20 years but the last few times the cod batter has been soggy and the portion size on the chips has shrunk despite it now costing nearly £9!! Used to be loads of chips, but now you have to ration them as you get through the fish to make sure you don't run out. Stop being stingy on the chips it must cost pence to put an extra scoop in. You get bigger portions elsewhere for about £7.

We all have a local chippy that is “the best” Well. If your local chippy isn’t the Golden Fish Bar then I am sorry, you are wrong. This is the best chippy. Anywhere.

The food was lovely! We rang in advance to see if there had been any changes to ordering since we last went before the pandemic. They were lovely and polite and took our order over the phone. The food was ready in half hour, everything was as ordered, nothing was missing. The food was hot and perfect and, as usual the portions were very generous!

If I could give a zero I would. I placed an order by phone and asked a 1/4 pounder the young girl asked me if that was a burger inside of a burger!? She said we only do a cheese burger or a 1/2 pounder which had 2 burgers in a bun. So I asked for a cheese burger with onions and burger sauce in. When I arrive the girl reads the order back to me and gets to cheese burger a pickled onion and a pot of burger sauce. By now I’m not filled with confidence so after correcting the order I check it when I get back to the car to realise there were no sausages in the order. Admittedly this was my mistake as they were hiding in with a portion of chips, although I did order these separately as there was a portion of chips for a family vegetarian. So we get home and start to dish up to find the cod literally dripping grease on the kitchen floor through the paper, when I open the paper we find the cod looking like it’s had 10 rounds with mike Tyson. I know I asked for battered cod but to me this looked like it had literally been battered with a baseball bat where the grease had turned it into mush. I’m really not one for complaining at all and find it highly embarrassing but after one of my family members found bone after bone in her haddock we thought this isn’t good enough and called them to say we would be returning the order minus a sausage and chips. When I arrived back at the shop and showed them the order the young girl behind the counter said the cod and haddock had been half eaten, at this point I start to tell them this is how it was when we opened it and then I had three young girls behind the counter getting very defensive and starting an argument in front of a shop full of people. I just said I wanted my money back and then said they would only give half my money back as the food was half eaten. Then the three young girls tell me to go somewhere else as I said we don’t get this service at McCoy’s in Hoo. To save the embarrassment I settled with a £10 refund and walked out very annoyed. As stated I’m not one to complain and don’t like confrontation but this was bad quality food to the extent where it was inedible and terrible service where you feel you are being ganged up on by three teenage girls. This chip shop used to be one of the best in Medway but unfortunately the quality and service has worsened over the years and will not be visiting ever again due to bad quality food and argumentative teenagers. If you need a good chip shop there are McCoys chip shops 5 minutes drive in each direction which we use on a regular basis. Only reason we didn’t on this occasion was because Hoo McCoys was not open and thought we would try the golden chippy. NEVER AGAIN....

Best chippy in Medway. All fish cooked to order - so no 2 day old reheated food here! They are very Covid friendly here. Fast service and delicious food!

Proper fish n chips and big portions, Bit pricey but individually cooked for each customer. . If you dont want to wait for your fish to be cooked, then phone ahead. My family eat from here once a week, fone the order in, wait 10 minutes and collect. They have never forgotten my salt and vinegar, so i wont knock off four stars from my rating...lol.

Disappointing visit, prices have increased and portions have got smaller!! £2.10 for a regular chips that is barely enough to share between 2 kids!

The best takeaway fish and chip shop around. My number one goto for fish and chips. Don't be too shocked about the queue that is often out of the door, they are quite quick and the fish is cooked to order. If you've love fish and chips you won't be disappointed.

fish one size only . yes and that is called small .veggie spring rolls very small and gherkins old spongy and tiny. so if you are on a massive diet eat here. but if you get hungary head just up the road mc coys frindsbury hill. .

Who ever worked tonight wasn't on top form. As they failed on me too and forgot my 4 sausages. They always seem to forget something be it a curry sauce or a gherkin or my drink 4th time now. I have never got an apology.

The place has taken a turn for the worse lately. I phoned ahead and was asked if I wanted salt and vinegar on it. I said yes but when I got home and opened the bag the staff had failed to put any on. At least the food order was not missing anything.

Alway go to the Golden Fish Bar for my fish & chips. They do my cod skinless which is great as I don’t like skin.

It's alright for a local fish and chip shop

I work here and it's the best job I've had, hence why I haven't left. The other staff make me feel like family and the regulars put a smile on my face. The food is always great and cooked fresh. We try and do our best to resolve complaints (we like to know, that way we can improve our service). We can cook the food to the customers preference, if that'll be gluten free fish or double fried chips. We constantly hear we are the best Fish & Chip shop around!

This place has gone downhill massively. They rush the chips even when there is no queue so always end up undercooked. Will be using the chip shop on Frindsby Hill from now.

I really don’t know what all the fuss is about with this chippy, it’s supposed to be so top class and unbeatable but in reality it’s just a mediocre chippy at best, ive certainly had better but we drove 8 miles to try out this one and expected much but was really disappointed. It’s certainly not worth making an effort to get here as any other chip shop around is just as good as these. Maybe it’s new owners or maybe they just want your money and couldn’t care less about the quality. What the hell is going on with chip shops , why can’t they sell a decent piece of cod and nice chips instead of stuff they probably get at cash and carry in bulk.

This is my local Fish and Chip shop and it has been the best in the area for many years. All of the fish is cooked fresh to order and the q out of the door every Friday night just proves how good it is. Parking can be a bit tricky at times and it can pay to phone your order through before hand. They do not take credit cards so make sure that you have enough cash.

Nice Fish and Chips best in the Area

Fish and chips are fab here. All the food is cooked to your order, so it's not sitting in the heat drying out for ages. If your only a few mins away, worth phoning and placing an order.

I had rated this shop as the best one around but since my last rating I have had poor chips. They use to have lovely crispy chips with soft fluffy insides. Now they are just cooked inside and soggy on the outside. I thought maybe it was a one off but 3 times I have been and 3 times on different times of the day and different days and it is just nasty chips now. Go to mccoys in Hoo for your chips they are far nicer and you always get good chips every time you go there.

Consistently great fish and chips. All fish cooked to order. Large pieces of fish in delicious batter and usually crispy chips. Lovely family. My grandchildren adore visiting this place on a Friday - part of our ritual.

Whenever we want fish and chips we always go here. Fish is freshly cooked and really tasty. There's usually a small queue showing how good it is, large portions of chips are always given so share if you don't want too many.

This is one of the best fish & chip shops Ever!! Takeaway only but, Always Fresh, Hot, Crispy Batter & great Chips. Expect a queue on Fridays.
