Fish At 55 in Medway

The venue is lovely and sheek,clean and spacious. My friend and I went to have breakfast. The guy serving us ,Adam ,absolutely made this a treat. He was funny , attentive and just such a lovely guy. Because of him alone we will definitely be back. The food was good and well priced. I would definitely recommend and would go again.

I heard great things about this place and as a group of 9 we booked in last night. The restaraunt is a lovely decorated building that has a buzzing atmosphere and is set over 3 floors. The place was busy and we was put in the basement room which was ok but had loads of little gnats flying around. The starters were all ok i had a couple of Oysters at £4 each and sizzling prawns with chilli and garlic at £10 which was nice and a seafood grill at nearly £30 This was average with a medley of fish which were very dry except for the salmon. desert was a cheesecake which was very average. Overall our group was 50/50 on the food. Pints of neck oil were £7 and were ok. bill came to £700 which included a service charge I personally wouldn’t come again.

Came for lunch and had the most amazing sushi that would equal anything from Japan ! The fish was so fresh it was incredible, pure passion on a plate , service was on point and the knowledge about each was on point. Thank you so much 😊

Lost count of the times we have used this restaurant. Always a fantastic meal. Great menu choices and frequently changing Specials board. We have had breakfast, lunch or dinner on numerous occasions and never been disappointed. Great atmosphere, friendly, helpful and welcoming staff. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone.

Very busy morning for the staff but they could not have been more friendly and helpful.

We ordered 2 full English breakfasts with a Latte and a cappuccino. The breakfast was just ok, I've had better so wasn't blown away. The atmosphere was lovely and the decor is really nice.

We met up with some old friends and had a great night out 😀 we sat downstairs at first put found it very noisy 🙉 so asked if we could move to a table upstairs 🤔 this was no problem and was much better 👍 the food was delicious and they have got a proper barman that was very good at making cocktails 🍸 and any other drinks 😊 the staff were great and very friendly 😀 would definitely recommend and if someone in your group doesn’t like fish there is a choice of meat dishes as well 😃 We will be going back 😎

Lovely restaurant! Varied menu with ample choice. Beautiful decor. Portions well sized and food tasty (moules were delicious!) Sadly no sushi available tonight (my favourite thing on their menu), otherwise I'd have given 5/5. Will definitely be coming back to try it though!

We went for the first time this evening. It was our wedding anniversary and we were pleasantly surprised by a free glass of Prosecco on arrival. The food was excellent and the staff were very attentive. We can’t wait to go back.

Really lovely lunch with the hubby for our wedding anniversary. The food was delicious and the portions very generous, we both opted for the salt & pepper squid for our starter which was yummy and then I opted for the Seared Scallops for my main and the hubby opted for Shetland Mussels. All in all a very delightful experience, the complimentary Prosecco was a nice and welcome touch too! Highly recommend and will be back ☺️

This is the third time I’ve been to the restaurant. First time was really lovely, food was excellent. Second time we took friends food was ok but not anywhere near as good as first visit. Today we took other friends and frankly I was embarrassed I’d recommended it, the food was awful. I love prawn cocktail and had one on my first visit which was lovely. Today’s cocktail was the worst I’d ever had. It was like an orange, sloppy soup and tasted awful. I had the monkfish, again I’d had before. Today was 1/2 the size and had a very unappetising spine running through it. My friend had dressed crab which was tiny. My husband had the banoffee pie which was worst I’d ever tasted. I didn’t complain as didn’t want to spoil a nice afternoon with our friends. There is no consistency with this restaurant. It is slightly pricey and the food does not warrant the price. What I will say is the staff all 3 times I’ve visited have been lovely and efficient. That said, there will be no return visits for me or the 2 other couples we introduced to the restaurant. Such a shame as a lovely atmosphere and location.

Nice varied menu with daily specials that I chose, whilst the sardine dish I chose was tasty, the sardines were far from fresh. The cod special I chose was good, but needed a tad more seasoning BUT the two ladies in duty lacked any social skills which spoilt the occasion

The food, environment and service were as always, fantastic at this restaurant. Adam, the waiter who was attending to us could not have been politer, more attentive (whilst still giving us space) and more entertaining. The service only elevated our experience and really made our visit to the restaurant all that more special.. We would highly recommend you try Fish at 55. We shared a Plat de Fruit De Mer and it was fantastic! Fresh! Tasty and very filling. Also, we cannot recommend the cocktails more, genuinely well made by very talented staff.

Took my parents for my dads 85th birthday and glad we tried somewhere new! Lovely spacious restaurant, food delicious and service amazing- thoroughly recommend a visit.

Despite some issues did occur during our visit due to a human factor mainly, I will still give the restaurant strong 5. The cocktail that was not on the menu, but the lady kindly made for me was amazing, then I decided to go for lobster/asparagus rolls with some steak on the top. Unfortunately rolls arrived with the cucumber instead of asparagus (I always avoid cucumber in a sushi/rolls because I simply don't like it there so you can imagine the disappointment). I did let the waitress know that something went wrong there. They did acknowledge that indeed there supposed to be an asparagus not a cucumber. Without asking for anything I have received a complimentary glass of wine, they also did not charge me for the glass of wine I had before. In addition to all of that they asked me to pick something else from the menu (free of charge) as the asparagus was out of stock and they did everything what they promised (I only was asked to pay for my cocktail at the end). The food was amazing. Finally, they never added the service charge to the bill which is a common sense but not many places these days would apply common sense. I have visited the place before, but never had any issues until today so it was hard to give a review, as I said now I can 100% give a stong 5 and highly recommend the place. Bare in mind, Miller and Carter does not provide this quality of serive and even food, I would say Fish 55 wins the restaurant (service/food quality batle) 100%. Thank you team, despite some issues I genuinely thoroughly enjoyed my day out today.

Came with a party of 10 on Saturday 15th June. My starter, main meal & dessert were all delicious. Loved the White Chocolate Martini & Lemon Meringue, amazing. Downside of meal was 2 people in group had fish starter, sushi & tuna dishes (cannot remember exact names of food) anyhow hours later once home. Both were rushing to bathroom with uncontrollable bladder. You see the image and message I'm getting across. More than likely food poisoning. A disappointment for them. Both said they would never return, I totally understand after that experience. Me personally, had Monkfish for Mains. Was fine after & the next day. Superb tasty dish. My starter was seaweed salad, also good.

Very nice lunch, relaxed informal bistro with a lot of windows looking out on ‘the Dickens’ streets around. The oysters, looked like a war zone, taste was luckily still fine. Mains the cod and hake were great value for money. Wine, Chilean sauvignon, also good. Recommended for a fine meal in Rochester.

Fantastic meal. Probably one of the best I ve had in the UK. Would be triple the price in London.

Breakfast at 'Fish at 55'. After sampling the majority of English Breakfasts 🍳 on offer in Rochester and the local area, this has just slipped into first place for me. 🏆 Fabulous English breakfast cooked freshly and every item on the dish prepared perfectly. Sausages are of good quality and the eggs are too as seen in the yellowness of the yolk. Mushrooms were prepared exceptionally well and all finished off with Sourdough bread 😋 well done to the chef! - he knows what he is doing 👨‍🍳 ⭐️ The service was perfect from Adam, very pleasant guy who was very attentive. Even the (free) jug of water tasted great, cooled with Ice and flavoured with lemons. 🍋 This just shows the attention given by this restaurant. The atmosphere inside is classy, fresh and inviting. We will definitely be back, but also for dinner at some point. Highly recommended restaurant.

Great choice of seafood and it was delicious.

We visited for my wife's birthday and had a lovely meal and evening. I completed my booking request on OpenTable and asked if it was for a special occasion. My wife was greeted with a glass of prosecco on arrival and wished happy birthday - a nice touch! The restaurant has a nice modern feel with lovely contrasting rich blues and copper accents throughout. The ambience was very inviting and cosy. The menu had a great selection of both fish, sushi, and meats to choose from. We ordered bread and olives before our starters. The olives were huge and some of the best we've tasted anywhere in the world. Starters were Pork Gyozas, chilli and lime king prawns and tempura prawns. We loved the gyozas and king prawns, both cooked well and full of flavour. The tempura prawns seemed pre-bought and cooked rather than made onsite but I could be wrong. Our main meals were excellent. My wife ordered Monkfish wrapped in pancetta - come hungry, as it is a huge portion! I had the salmon and again, everything was beautifully cooked and full of flavour. We definitely return for another meal and highly recommend this restaurant.

Cooked seafood was good. Happy with that part of our meal. However we ordered the sankana platter for 4. That was beyond disappointing. Good quality but definitely NOT WORTH the £78 paid for it. Recommend ordering an ala carte combination instead of just avoid the sushi.

Great place for lunch, but beware: the cooking is very heavy on butter and oil. While the flavours are good, some of the dishes have way too much butter in their sauce which makes it challenging on the stomach.

Superb service and ambience with attention to details, but the food is very heavy (e.g., drenched in cream). The appetizer garlic chili prawns came swimming in a pool of butter. The hake entree was drenched in heavy cream (same with the scallop entree; same sauce?). Surely, there are other ways to cook seafood than drowning them in fat? Felt bloated after the meal.

Visited here for our anniversary. Staff were wonderful and we were treated to a complimentary glass of Prosecco each for the occasion which was a lovely thoughtful touch. Staff were attentive and a credit to the establishment. The sourdough bread tasted fresh. The fish soup was lovely and rich. The fillet steak absolutely melted in the mouth and was cooked perfectly. The tuna sashimi had clean fresh flavours. Th seabass ceviche had bold and light flavours running through and was very refreshing. This was our first visit but definitely won’t be our last. Delicious food and wonderful service 10/10

Fish how it should be. Fresh, whole (if you like it that way), good service, good drinks to go with it. Oysters, tempura prawns and squid to share. Mains of Mussels, Monkfish, Sea Bream and Dover Sole. All different but excellent flavours. Will definitely be back to try their lunch set menu another day.

We are here last night as an early Mother’s Day meal and it was DELIGHTFUL. The host showed us to a wonderful table overlooking the high street. Our waitress took our order promptly for drinks and informed us of the specials. The food itself was stunning. Between the crusted salmon, pan fried hake and the olives to start it was all delicious. Ambience was nice. The sound of people chatting and laughing was lovely but not too loud at all. This is our second visit, and no doubt we’d be back for a third!

We celebrated a birthday by having lunch here today. We weren’t disappointed; the food and service was excellent. The chef thought my husband’s monk fish was a bit on the small side so he cooked him another one so he had two.

It was a very good meal. The seafood in particular is excellent. The starters were top and the menu looked very appealing. I also had chicken which was great for a non seafood eater. The wine list is extensive and there’s a full bar. Service was attentive and very professional. It does get busy as it seems popular so booking ahead is an idea if in bigger groups. There are tables on three floors so you should be able to walk up. Price was pretty reasonable. Looking around £50 upwards for three courses and a drink.

Lobster and crab on toast starter was amazing along with the squid and chilli jam. Seafood grill was very nice and well priced. Very efficient and good service. Will go again

I can't fault it except food wasn't as great as expected. I can cook better at home, much better. I had to ask to remove California roll from the bill as it was literally, only rice for £9.95. They were very kind and removed it from the bill. Sushi wasn't good. Starters were ok.

I had roasted whole Sea Bass plus fries and it was fantastic. My wife had the fish mixed grill and thoroughly enjoyed that.

The food was amazing and we would not be able to fault the excellent and attentive service we had - especially from Charlotte and Jako. It's never easy to prepare and serve food for a large family group but I can honestly say that the staff excelled with both the quality of the meals and their attentive service. A very nice high street fish restaurant. Having said that we had ham hock as a starter and it was good!

First time visiting, was welcomed with a glass of Prosecco on the house as we were celebrating our anniversary. Friendly staff, I ordered off the special board the sea bass and was out of this world, my partner ordered from the main menu the hake which was just as good. Firstly I take no joy in writing a negative review because I like this place and the staff always seem like they care but the price simply no longer reflects the quality so it is fully deserved. The steaks are well cooked and of a decent quality but the lobster are borderline criminally thin in terms of meat. I ordered a £50 lobster and steak main and the lobster was a joke. Service was ok but a long way from attentive and at one stage I literally had to go to the bar to get our drinks because the service was so slowly. I’ve eaten here many times but their game has now fallen way behind their pricing and unless they fix it they will fail. They can do better..I hope they do.

Excellent restaurant in Rochester High St

According to a friend’s recommendation Fish at 55 is the best place to eat in Rochester. We went as a family for NYE dinner and got absolutely disappointed of the waiting time, taste and presentation of the food. Apart from being served by a very nice lady Kamilla, the experience was awful. We ordered chilli prawns which were absolutely burnt, then we continued with Halibut and the sauce was tasting nice but was cold and the fish was very overcooked. I didn’t want to make a fuss about it as my friend mentioned that she eats there quite often but the quality of the food is not as the previous reviews have said.

I’m always a little apprehensive about eating out on NYE but the well oiled machine of Fish at 55 handled the large groups with delicious food, great atmosphere and attentive and friendly staff. I’ll be back!

We love it so much, that we had our wedding meal here (21 people). They were super accommodating and gave us plenty of options to choose from. Everyone loved the food and had plenty to eat. They have a good range of options at different prices. There isn't much choice for vegetarians but what they do offer is good quality. We obviously pushed the boat out a bit for our wedding, but we have eaten there a few times and varied between ~£20 per person up to about £50 per person. Also, despite being primarily a seafood restaurant, their pork belly is superb.

Spontaneous visit for breakfast, the staff made us immediately welcome. We enjoyed our food and service so much we returned in the evening for dinner. Again, really impressed with the quality of the food and helpful staff. As a party of 9 without a booking nothing was too much trouble. We will certainly return and recommend to friends.

Without a doubt the nicest breakfast I’ve had in Rochester… I go out for breakfast weekly, normally west Malling or other places on Rochester high street. Today I walked past & noticed they had a breakfast menu, this will be my weekly trip moving forward! Service was amazing, so friendly and accommodating. The food was cooked to perfection, lovely atmosphere. Also the most amazing coffee! A must visit! 👏🏼👏🏼

A really good value lunch deal with a gorgeous wine to boot. If not the lunch deal taken may be a bit on the pricey side, but you get what you pay for in my opinion. A lovely place in a lovely city, but fish is its USP.

Food excellent, service patchy, as its a Sunday assuming their maybe a couple of Hangovers going on. Kept having to remind folks we are waiting on this and that....However, the food more than compensated.

Disappointed. Had Christmas party so perhaps not the best visit. Scallops overcooked, puree drying out. Fish pie, nice potato topping but fish bland and very watery bottom, no side of samphire served. Lemon tart bland and soggy pastry. Had to look up flavour of sorbet, should be mango.

Definitely the best restaurant in Rochester...the oysters were first class as were the mussels. Avocado sushi superb too. The excellent food is complimented by the front of house staff led by the exceptional Jaco. Book it now!!!

Good choice for fish lovers…the specials were great…very large portion sizes for the mains, would recommend the skate.

Luck of the draw. Tapas bar was closed and the nearest was Fish at 55. Bright, intelligent staff who cheerfully engaged with us but were by no means familiar. It was with regret that we did not plump for the Chef's Specials on the board...
