Fish how it should be. Fresh, whole (if you like it that way), good service, good drinks to go with it. Oysters, tempura prawns and squid to share. Mains of Mussels, Monkfish, Sea Bream and Dover Sole. All different but excellent flavours. Will definitely be back to try their lunch set menu another day.

We are here last night as an early Mother’s Day meal and it was DELIGHTFUL. The host showed us to a wonderful table overlooking the high street. Our waitress took our order promptly for drinks and informed us of the specials. The food itself was stunning. Between the crusted salmon, pan fried hake and the olives to start it was all delicious. Ambience was nice. The sound of people chatting and laughing was lovely but not too loud at all. This is our second visit, and no doubt we’d be back for a third!

We celebrated a birthday by having lunch here today. We weren’t disappointed; the food and service was excellent. The chef thought my husband’s monk fish was a bit on the small side so he cooked him another one so he had two.

It was a very good meal. The seafood in particular is excellent. The starters were top and the menu looked very appealing. I also had chicken which was great for a non seafood eater. The wine list is extensive and there’s a full bar. Service was attentive and very professional. It does get busy as it seems popular so booking ahead is an idea if in bigger groups. There are tables on three floors so you should be able to walk up. Price was pretty reasonable. Looking around £50 upwards for three courses and a drink.

Lobster and crab on toast starter was amazing along with the squid and chilli jam. Seafood grill was very nice and well priced. Very efficient and good service. Will go again

Had a decent meal here. Price ok. Service good. Seafood is best on the menu but chicken also decent if don’t like seafood.

Had pawns for starters. Crab for main course. Lovely food and presentation.

I can't fault it except food wasn't as great as expected. I can cook better at home, much better. I had to ask to remove California roll from the bill as it was literally, only rice for £9.95. They were very kind and removed it from the bill. Sushi wasn't good. Starters were ok.

I had roasted whole Sea Bass plus fries and it was fantastic. My wife had the fish mixed grill and thoroughly enjoyed that.

Thank you to the whole team at Fish at 55 for looking after our large family party so well. The food was amazing and we would not be able to fault the excellent and attentive service we had - especially from Charlotte and Jako. It's never easy to prepare and serve food for a large family group but I can honestly say that the staff excelled with both the quality of the meals and their attentive service. We had a big family gathering to celebrate the life of my 98 year old mum. We pre-ordered the food and everything turned out perfectly and well organised. A very nice high street fish restaurant. Having said that we had ham hock as a starter and it was good!

First time visiting, was welcomed with a glass of Prosecco on the house as we were celebrating our anniversary. Friendly staff, I ordered off the special board the sea bass and was out of this world, my partner ordered from the main menu the hake which was just as good. Firstly I take no joy in writing a negative review because I like this place and the staff always seem like they care but the price simply no longer reflects the quality so it is fully deserved. The steaks are well cooked and of a decent quality but the lobster are borderline criminally thin in terms of meat. I ordered a £50 lobster and steak main and the lobster was a joke. Service was ok but a long way from attentive and at one stage I literally had to go to the bar to get our drinks because the service was so slowly. I’ve eaten here many times but their game has now fallen way behind their pricing and unless they fix it they will fail. They can do better..I hope they do.

Excellent restaurant in Rochester High St

According to a friend’s recommendation Fish at 55 is the best place to eat in Rochester. We went as a family for NYE dinner and got absolutely disappointed of the waiting time, taste and presentation of the food. Apart from being served by a very nice lady Kamilla, the experience was awful. We ordered chilli prawns which were absolutely burnt, then we continued with Halibut and the sauce was tasting nice but was cold and the fish was very overcooked. I didn’t want to make a fuss about it as my friend mentioned that she eats there quite often but the quality of the food is not as the previous reviews have said.

I’m always a little apprehensive about eating out on NYE but the well oiled machine of Fish at 55 handled the large groups with delicious food, great atmosphere and attentive and friendly staff. I’ll be back!

We love it so much, that we had our wedding meal here (21 people). They were super accommodating and gave us plenty of options to choose from. Everyone loved the food and had plenty to eat. They have a good range of options at different prices. There isn't much choice for vegetarians but what they do offer is good quality. We obviously pushed the boat out a bit for our wedding, but we have eaten there a few times and varied between ~£20 per person up to about £50 per person. Also, despite being primarily a seafood restaurant, their pork belly is superb.

Spontaneous visit for breakfast, the staff made us immediately welcome. We enjoyed our food and service so much we returned in the evening for dinner. Again, really impressed with the quality of the food and helpful staff. As a party of 9 without a booking nothing was too much trouble. We will certainly return and recommend to friends.

Without a doubt the nicest breakfast I’ve had in Rochester… I go out for breakfast weekly, normally west Malling or other places on Rochester high street. Today I walked past & noticed they had a breakfast menu, this will be my weekly trip moving forward! Service was amazing, so friendly and accommodating. The food was cooked to perfection, lovely atmosphere. Also the most amazing coffee! A must visit! 👏🏼👏🏼

A really good value lunch deal with a gorgeous wine to boot. If not the lunch deal taken may be a bit on the pricey side, but you get what you pay for in my opinion. A lovely place in a lovely city, but fish is its USP.

Food excellent, service patchy, as its a Sunday assuming their maybe a couple of Hangovers going on. Kept having to remind folks we are waiting on this and that....However, the food more than compensated.

Disappointed. Had Christmas party so perhaps not the best visit. Scallops overcooked, puree drying out. Fish pie, nice potato topping but fish bland and very watery bottom, no side of samphire served. Lemon tart bland and soggy pastry. Had to look up flavour of sorbet, should be mango.

We are from Australia and enjoy good food. Jack and his team treated us like we were family, Food, well it was without any doubt the best seafood we've had in a long time so 10 out of 10. Well done Jacko, next trip to the uk I know where to go.

Definitely the best restaurant in Rochester...the oysters were first class as were the mussels. Avocado sushi superb too. The excellent food is complimented by the front of house staff led by the exceptional Jaco. Book it now!!!

A high-end priced restaurant that overreaches for what it is. If you pardon the pun, it's all “fishy business” here. Despite good presentation on the plate, the food is overpriced for teeny tiny portions with acceptable but unremarkable flavour. This is a trend of this unfortunate genre of restaurant that seeks to gently extort by unabashed mark-up and stealthy service charges, rather than actually delivering value for money to the customer. It's all “wham, bam, thank you ma'am”. What all this amounts to is a load of fluff and arranging food to look pretty on a plate, by which time they'll hope you've forgotten how short-changed you really are. Banditry. Another case in point: We were served flat coca-cola twice before this was finally rectified. The location off the high street is good. The décor inside is lacking, feeling faceless and disconnected from the heritage-rich local area. A missed opportunity. The restaurant's titular brand, “Fish at 55” is generic, and seems to be thought of on a whim. I'd give it a miss.

Definitely one to avoid. Food: 2/5 Service: 3/5 Ambience: 4/5 Food: Seafood platter. £30. One of the fish was off. The rest were totally bland. Two small prawns were fine. In taking the plate away no comment was made by waitress about a whole piece if fish barely nibbled. Coke: from tap was off. Replaced with a bottle which was fine. Service: one lady great. Two ladies awful. 12.5% service added and no taking of AMEX. Ambience: a nice space.

great place. no less than 4 stars because of the food (very tasty and no less than fresh off the dock) the service (very attentive and kind staff, attending to every need and no less than perfect in execution) and atmosphere (because the restaurant is entirely contained and in-house.) mega thanks to our server helen! she was on point the whole time and very attentive to every need. thanks helen!!

Food looked and tasted great, poached eggs were really nice and runny just inside tasted quite watery but definitely a lovely place for breakfast.

An unexpected gem. I moved to the area recently and this was my first time eating out locally. I was beautifully surprised. The restaurant accommodated our late booking(near closing time) and the food and drinks were amazing, will definitely be back.

I had a skate wing 'special' no vegetables included within price. Bread not complementary. £4.00 for 2 slices of bread cut in two. i.e. 1.00 for a quarter slice. Drink, 'negroni'. A very large portion of ice, very little alcohol content. No correct measures. Service was acceptable. Long spiral staircase to reach lavatories. It was a great experience, but if I be honest a bit overpriced. Some of the dishes were so tasty but some others not. Monkfish was so tasty, seafood was so fresh and well dressed. Steak and lobster wasn’t in good quality of taste, we had to return it and kindly they have brought another. Staffs are so kind and friendly. Overall had a good experience 👍🏼

Amazing experience. We went with our young baby and they were nothing but accomodating, even apologised a couple of flies which were out of their control in the weather! The food is incredible, service is fantastic and aesthetic is wonderful . They gave me a complimentary glass of prosecco when I mentioned we were celebrating which was completely unexpected but so touching! One for the parents, the high chairs are so comfortable for the little ones and they asked us about his order before our own which gave his meal a chance to cool down. I'm not one to pay a service charge as standard but was more than happy to pay it today. Will be coming back and raving to all my pals! Thank you for making our day so special!!!

A lovely meal, all cooked fresh and accommodated the changes asked for( a little on the pricey side). They also put a candle in my husband desert and sang happy birthday to him.

We didn’t book today as my husband has a injury so we decided to go to Rochester and try get something to eat we walked in to Fish 55 and great news news for us they had a table for myself husband and son, wow the staff were amazing from the start to the finish the food was absolutely amazing 🤩 The host was very engaging always talking to us and the waitress was adorable, can’t wait to go back well done Fish at 55 a great day ♥️♥️

Great to see a restaurant with fresh seafood. One friendly advice to the owner or the chef though. Chorizo salad doesn't work with sea bass. The fish has a delicate flavour and chorizo kills it. The side dish shouldn't overpower the main. Also, the fish was laid on swirls of balsamic vinegar, which belongs to the salad, not the fish (you don't eat fish with vinegar). Still giving it 5* as I love your dedication to fresh seafood. Atmosphere and service are great too.
