Visited here for our tenth wedding anniversary and had the vegetarian cream tea for two. The food was divine. The service was fantastic and the ambiance and surrounding gardens were lovely. I ordered tempura king prawns, three pieces as a starter. Took 20mins to arrive and they were not golden brown but were a burnt dark brown colour. One of the prawns was just a deep fried head and the others were head on in full shells making them inedible. Possibly the worst starter I’ve ever been served. The rest was ok but this was not acceptable

Sunday lunch, 5 of us in the lovely surroundings of Oakley Hall. Greeted warmly and seated in the elegant but contemporary Glasshouse restaurant. Not a huge menu for a Sunday but enough for everyone to choose something they liked. My pork belly Kim Chi starter was excellent followed by a brined roast chicken crown with all the extras which was perfect, great roasties too. My daughter loved her roast beef, cooked exactly how she prefers. My partner raved about her Za'atar roasted butternut squash. Desserts were all amazing too. Five lots of clean plates and dishes told their own story (as do my pictures). Very reasonable £38 for 3 courses x 5 and a 10% service charge made for an affordable special occasion. Service was exemplary. There was a wedding reception taking place elsewhere but that didn't impact our experience negatively. Toilets were immaculate. Would certainly come back and the afternoon teas are superb here too.

I had high hopes for afternoon tea but sadly I left disappointed. Ultimately it was the service that let it down. We waited around 30-40 mins for our afternoon tea to be brought out to us. It was emphasised at the beginning we could have unlimited teas and filtered coffees, but what they forgot to mention is you only got that if you caught the attention of a staff member. We eventually received an extra tea for one that came without a mug. The girls and young lad who served us were lovely enough, but once the food came out, the service stopped. We never had a check back, and we had to call someone over after waiting ages to ask for the bill. A service charge was added which was ironic, but we couldn’t be hassled with further flagging down staff to remove this and so we settled the bill. The chap in the suit who I presumed to be a manager was pleasant enough but was very unproductive in our view. Overall, it spoilt my birthday somewhat and I won’t be considering Oakley again.

We have eaten at the hotel a few times and were really looking forward to dinner but was disappointed this time. The scallops were completely overpowered by the aniseed in the sauce and the pork loin I had to leave half as was very tough....though the pigs cheek on the plate was amazing. Would highly recommend the Souffle for dessert.Since Covid lockdown has eased, I have visited a number of restaurants many of whose staff appear to have forgotten how to serve and act with diners. A fantastic AA 2 rosette restaurant in the Oakley Hall hotel. We have had our dinners here every night while on holiday here. Excellent chef with an amazing selection of dishes. A big choice of starters, such that we can have a different starter every night. As my partner did not want anything special for his birthday I decided after lockdownand shielding that I would treat him to a meal out and as it was the first time we had been out in over a year I decided to push the boat out. It was to be either Tylney Hall or Oakley Hall and as Oakley is nearer booked there. We arrived at the bar next to the restaurant and enjoyed a gin and tonic before eating. We then moved on to the restaurant and were shown a table just up from an open door to the garden so we chose a different table. The menu came - it was an All Day Menu nit an evening dinner one and reminded us of a gastro pub rather than an upmarket restaurant and also there were several tables with families - not the romantic evening out I had envisaged. Then a baby squealing periodically added to the lack of ambience. We decided on the £6O sharing steak which was lukewarm. We sent it back. It came back two minutes later still lukewarm. Dessert was ordered plus coffee. The coffee cane before the dessert - in my case cheeseboard so I had to ask for another coffee. The bill came to £124. We would have done better trying to have a romantic meal at McDonalds and giving the £124 to charity. Dreadful meal. Charged full amount despite complaint too. Would absolutely not recommend unless you are a family on a cheap half term break. No good at all for two senior citizens trying to have a romantic dinner! Will never go there again.

I read other reviews about afternoon tea at Oakley Hall and felt it would be a good venue for my partner's 70th birthday afternoon tea after cancelling one at a famous London hotel because it was rather a hassle to get there with the Covid situation and travelling. The Glasshouse had a few diners also having the afternoon tea menu, well spaced due to social distancing. The environment was nice but perhaps because of the current distancing situation lacked some atmosphere. We ordered the non-champagne version of the afternoon tea which arrived on a tiered stand. The scones were fresh and fluffy, but the sandwiches were really a let-down. The brown salmon and cream cheese were the only ones that met expectations, the other white one was ham with one or two flabby rocket leaves. There were two varieties of filled rolls, but these were obviously just out of the fridge, chilled and very solid. One was basic egg mayonnaise with no other addition such as cress/watercress/chives etc, and the other finger type roll, also very chilled and solid had a filling we didn't recognize but think was fish based like a kind of pate, and once again nothing else with it to make it interesting. One of us wasn't eating ham so the waiter brought an additional one of each of the other varieties instead. The afternoon tea menu states "artisan sandwiches" so I was expecting something a bit special, only to be sadly disappointed by sandwiches that could have come packaged from a convenience store. The jam was fine and also the cream, but the quantity was a bit mean for 3 people and we needed to ask for butter. On a positive, the cakes were plentiful and some were very nice. Tea was refilled as required and the waiting staff were attentive. I would have preferred fewer sweet cakes, better quality and more interesting sandwiches, and maybe a savoury pastry for variety. Lastly I did make it known on booking that the occasion was a 70th birthday tea, so I had hoped that one small special cake would be served to mark the celebration with a candle or Happy Birthday written on the plate as we've been brought in other establishments. Not this time however.

We had afternoon tea in The Glasshouse Restaurant at Oakley Hall after a visit to the nearby Bombay Sapphire Distillery. The hotel and grounds are impressive and we were greeted warmly. The afternoon tea was both abundant and very high quality - I say this on the basis of having sampled tea at quite a few top London hotels. The sandwiches were fresh with imaginative fillings, the cakes delivered both visually but importantly also in terms of taste and texture and the scones were light and delicious. The cakes included traditional sponge, macaroons, chocolate bowls with chocolate shavings and ganache plus other varieties. The flavours were divine and the waiter talked us through the ingredients. If I had a very minor gripe, it's that The Glasshouse is not quite as atmospheric as some of the other areas of the hotel which appear suitable to host afternoon tea but that is a small, subjective point. The hotel grounds feature a woodland walk which is a good way to walk off your tea!Overall, this was one the best afternoon tea experiences I've had and very good value too.

Although we booked our meal for 1.15, the dining room was already serving afternoon tea, with huge huge sones. For such a lovely hotel can people have some decorum, wearing shorts both male and female is beyond the pale. The receptionist was very helpful and explained that it was fine to come in for a meal or just a coffee any time. I had a really good cappuccino and the best club sandwich ever - chicken, bacon, egg, avocado, fresh salad and some side dishes. I sat on the terrace with lovely view over the fountain, grounds and fields beyond. Wish I’d had time to walk round the gardens which are huge with lots of mature trees everywhere. We had a lovely afternoon tea at Oakley Hall Hotel today. They now start serving from midday, so we had a long lunch break from work and enjoyed an 'eat out to help out' £10 off afternoon tea, although it's still great value at full price! There's now a device to take your temperature when you arrive in reception and plenty of hand sanitiser available. The service was excellent, the staff were all friendly and attentive. There was plenty of quality food and we got a box to take some cake home. The scones were fresh and warm and there was an excellent selection of cake, macaron, tarts, etc. We've been for afternoon tea here a few times over the last few years and it has consistently been of a high standard. The restaurant has recently been re-decorated too. Definitely my number one choice for afternoon tea in the Basingstoke area!

We were staying at the hotel and we had booked a dinner bed and breakfast deal. We thought that with it being shortly after lock down eased and restaurants etc opened. We felt that this might be easier for us, but had reservations due to poor experiences of the ‘dinner’ options previously at other hotels. However we were pleasantly surprise. The food both nights was excellent. Beautifully cooked and presented. Staff were lovely and they allowed us to pace the meal which was a surprise with booked time slots. We had the asparagus and scallops for starters. Nicely sized potions and delicious. We shared the Chateaubriand which was served with 3 sauces. Again it was delicious. Pudding were the only thing that slightly let the meal down but they were still pleasant. The second night we had the pork belly(husband reckoned its the best he has ever had!) and chicken terrine, follows by the chicken and soufflé (I thought this was the best soufflé I have ever had). So all in all excellent. This is not you average hotel restaurant food!!

Visited for dinner after the long covid closure and the food was just as delicious as ever. I cannot knock it so still giving 5 stars despite my disappointment that the menu is now completely different. It used to be more fine dining but now is more brasserie style food which is a shame as it just didn't feel as special a place to eat at as it did before. It's a shame that I'll have to find somewhere else for a more special and unique meal in future but if brasserie food is what you're after then this is surely the best place for it

Definitely! Set inside the beautiful Oakley Hall hotel is this gorgeous, modern restaurant. It is clean and airy with smartly presented, courteous, friendly and helpful staff. This alone really sets the tone for the quality afternoon myself and a friend had. We both opted for the strong English breakfast tea which was delicious and plentiful (with free refills!) with a wide and varied drinks menu available. And then the treats came out and boy were they treats. As smartly presented as the waiters themselves, the afternoon tea was immaculate. I have attached a picture as definitive proof! Every element was exacting and delicious, judged perfectly for quantity and the quality of the craftsmanship was first class. I have been lucky enough to have afternoon teas in London, Edinburgh and Bath at renowned restaurants who do afternoon teas and I must say that the offering here rivals that of the big boys. So my complete thanks to the chef and team for creating a sublime experience, paired with the excellent service and ambience makes for the perfect afternoon. I will definitely return again.

I think a glass of champagne would have been a much better offer. The three course meal was very nice, however, the portions were minuscule, especially the main course. Unfortunately, the service in the restaurant wasn't as good as the food (which was excellent). We felt the junior staff needed better training and the senior could have been more attentive. Having had our bread roll dropped on the floor upon being served at dinner - then we had to ask twice to have it replaced, we had cutlery dropped on the floor at both dinner and breakfast and toast dropped on the table at breakfast only to be reinstated in our toast rack. Service just not good enough I'm afraid.

After a gleaming recommendation for Glasshouse restaurant from a friend, I brought my wife here and for a night's stay at Oakley Hall Hotel for her birthday. Our visit did not disappoint!

Birthday treat, dinner bed and breakfast at Oakley Hall and wow were we impressed. The setting is glorious all staff friendly and attentive but the highlight of our stay was dinner at the Glasshouse restaurant. From start to finish it was a delight. All three course exceeded all expectations. We started with the Tuna which was fresh and well balanced. We both opted for Beef mains. This was soo tasty we particularly the combination of the braised shin and onion marmalade which complemented the tender beef fillet...simple perfection.

We came here for a celebratIon meal. The location is beautiful. The service by the waiting staff was outstanding and so, so customer focussed. The meals were attractively presented. For mains, across 6 people, we had the duck, beef, trout and lamb. All were delicious. The only adverse comment I would make is that in comparison to the other dishes the lamb portion was very small - 2 tiny slices. I feel even without the comparison the lamb portion size was poor. The desserts were super - the chocolate heart and the cheese board. The range of cheeses and size was excellent. One person was denied the delight of the chocolate heart as there were only 3 that the chef was prepared to have served as the 4th did not meet her quality standards in appearance. We requested to have this anyway and she refused. I do feel in such instances the product should be shown to the customer, for them to make an informed choice as to whether the appearance is acceptable to them. I am all for exemplary standards however customer centredness and freedom to choose should have been the main considerations especially as the other dessert choices were not desired. Having said all this, would definitely come back and would highly recommend.

I joined three friends for a booking for Sunday lunch that was made for a friends 50th. The meal came in at just £30 for three courses plus coffee was outstanding. We started with a Proseco on the terrace which made the event all the more special. I had the pork to begin which was excellent followed by beef that simply melted in the mouth. The staff were attentive and very professional

I was treated by my partner to a night away at Oakley Hall Hotel and was lucky enough to be surprised with an 8 course taster menu at the Glasshouse restaurant. I genuinely cannot express enough how incredible each course of food was. You can tell that every ingredient is top quality, in particular the fillet of beef and the chalk stream trout. These two dishes were by far the best plates of food I have ever had and now all I want is to eat them again and again! The desserts were so unique and had amazing flavour – the tonka ice cream is a must try! The overall experience was incredible and I take my hat off to the chefs responsible for each of the dishes as they were truly spectacular.

Superb food. We chose duck and lamb for main dishes and were delighted by both. They were beautifully presented and extremely tasty. Our starters were delicious too. Sadly no room for dessert .... next time! I’ve got my eye on the soufflé which looked superb.

Fabulous, local produce treated with great care and attention to detail by the chef. The steak and the duck were both perfectly cooked and all of the veg were spot on. For dessert, don't look any further than the soufflet - simply delicious.

Lovely setting, pleasant decor, attentive staff, good food and wine (and coffee) - but prices have risen, and it's not such good value any more ...

Beautiful grounds and setting. Sunday lunch had impressive menu and presentation of food but smoked salmon was very salty, roast sirloin of beef comprised two thin slices on a barely warm plate with a soggy Yorkshire pudding and overcooked vegetables. Chocolate tart base was hard to eat and coffee was served in cardboard cups; difficult to recommend.

I visited the Glasshouse for the first time this weekend and had a truly wonderful time. The restaurant setting is beautiful and the grounds are picturesque. The staff I encountered were all very polite and made me feel really welcome. My friend and I experienced the champagne afternoon tea which I highly recommend. This is not your average afternoon tea, offering a unique range of flavours that have been cleverly combined by the chef (the pesto chicken sandwich being one of my favourites). The scones were extremely light and fluffy and the selection of cakes was a treat. The chef is clearly passionate about his craft and seems to have spent a lot of time and effort designing his menu. If I was to be critical, the only issue I had with my experience was that my food was not served on a tower like I was expecting. When I questioned this, I was told they had run out on the afternoon I visited?! I feel like the absence of this fundamental aspect of afternoon tea really let down the chef who evidently still made a great effort to present our food exquisitely! Nevertheless, we had a fantastic time and will no-doubt be back soon :)

I’ve been to lots of different afternoon teas in lovely places in London and Berkshire but afternoon tea at the Glasshouse most definitely comes out on top. Great variation in the sandwiches and the scones were the best I’ve ever tasted! I think that it’s amazing value because you can see how much work and attention to detail goes into the cakes. They were very creative and I loved the flavours! Just a shame that we weren’t served them on the tiered stands like others in the restaurant - I’m guessing they ran out because it was so busy, so definitely investing in some more if so! Standard of the food definitely made up for it though. I highly recommend!!

Lovely looking food tasted great just a bit to rich for my liking, not sure if the pairing of sundried tomatoe and marmite flavour butter is what I was exspecting for my bread rolls!!!!..service was a little slow even though they were not busy. Staff were friendly and polite. Was nice but not the kind of food that is for me glad Ive tried though.

The setting of this restaurant, situated in the Oakley Hall hotel, is lovely as you look out onto the beautiful grounds outside. The menu offers a variety of dishes and we were spoilt for choice. The wine is quite expensive, but we opted for a bottle of Corbieres, which was heavenly so I guess you get what you pay for!

We booked the afternoon tea for 4 people. It was pleasant, but nothing spectacular. Sandwiches and cakes were well made, and tasty, but not dramatically so - the scones were a litte dry and the clotted cream too hard, though.
