Giuseppe’s in Portsmouth

Meal was very good with pleasant staff, however the ambience was spoilt by a ‘gentleman’ sat a few tables away from us who became engaged on a loud lengthy phone conversation with a friend of his, with frequent use of the ‘f’ word, albeit in a jocular manner. This was early on a Monday evening before the restaurant got busy and it took all my patience not to complain to him or the staff who I am sure must have been aware of his selfish, moronic behaviour as it was so difficult to ignore. I don’t go to restaurants to hear other people’s personal phone conversations; why don’t they have the common sense and decency to do this in a private place? Would have been a five star rating but for this issue.

WOW!!! The restaurant that never disappoints. We live 125 miles but always eat here when we visit Southsea. We are welcomed as old friends and there is always a table for us. The staff are fabulous and friendly. The food is incredible and the portions huge!! I can’t recommend this restaurant highly enough.

Exquisite authentic Italian food and fantastic service, this restaurant will knock your socks off. Perfect venue for any celebration, Guiseppes does not hold back for birthdays. There isn’t anything on the menu I wouldn’t recommend but the carbonara is the best I’ve ever eaten. Fantastic for seafood and steak as well as pizza. Portion sizes are large but don’t order less, just arrive hungry. It is difficult to leave room for dessert but the Tiramisu is mind blowing.

Maybe we picked a bad night but I ordered lasagne and there was no pasta in it, it was just melted cheese and some sort of meat sauce…basically slop. I was celebrating my birthday and was disappointed. The wine and beer was nice and the staff friendly..maybe they have a new chef as I went last year and it was lovely

Loved it here! Only in Southsea for 2 nights so booked 2 different restaurants for the evenings. Unfortunately for the 2nd one we went here first! Cancelled the other and rebooked here. Great food, great portions, great staff. Brilliant all round. We are already looking forward to tomorrow. The best Italian I've been too.

I tried to book a table via email but was informed they were fully booked. My husband called the restaurant (didn’t realise I had emailed) and managed to get a table, so it’s probably best calling to reserve. That being said, the restaurant was full all evening and we could see why. The staff were so attentive and had some great personalities, we were laughing a lot. I had the prawn cocktail to start, my husband had the scallops. For main we shared the pepperoni pizza and chicken penne pasta. The portions were generous so we couldn’t finish it all. I would have liked the pasta to be a bit more creamy as I felt it was a little watery but still enjoyable. My FiL said the lobster linguine was brilliant. It was very warm inside the restaurant so we did have to step outside a few times to cool down! The Merlot wine was very good. I would highly recommend Giuseppe’s, a fun evening with great food and wine.

Delicious food and authentic atmosphere. Excellent service. We had spaghetti bolognaise and spaghetti pomodoro, both delicious and better than o could cook at home.

This restaurant remains my favourite Italian. We’re always welcomed like old friends. Even without a reservation they found a table for us plus the dog. Fabulous atmosphere in there tonight and the food, as always, was superb with portions that I couldn’t finish. Staff and service is friendly and efficient. Highly recommend this

we used to go to Giuseppe's when it was in Hilsea, Well we went to this restaurant and it was still a great place to dine out. The food was fantastic and as always Giuseppe was on top form and he could not do enough to make our evening really great. The service was excellent and it is all those little extras that make this place well worth a visit. I highly recommend this restaurant if you like Italian food and a great atmosphere. Top marks and well done Giuseppe and team for making our evening so pleasant.

We found this by chance on a visit to Southsea. If you want a real and genuine Italian experience then this is the place. We had a fantastic family meal in a real Italian family atmosphere. Great food great atmosphere and wonderful people. Well be going back

Fast and friendly service from start to finish. We were greeted with smiles and the staff were amazing. We ordered a bottle of wine which was lovely. Our good was to die for we had the salmon pasta and chicken and mushroom risotto. We will be back there soon to try different dishes, however, next time we will be sharing a main (large portions) so we can try others courses. Can't wait

Found this little gem on our last night of our mini break and wished we Found it sooner. Its a fantastic, friendly and authentic Italian restaurant. The food was amazing and staff and owner were brilliant and friendly

This was our first visit to this restaurant, however we went because of the owner, we used to visit his restaurant on several occasions, Pizza House in Hilsea. The food and service were excellent, staff were extremely attentive, nibbles to keep us going whilst we waited for our food. Delicious and very generous portions. Giuseppe was lively as ever

I booked my 80th Birthday at Giuseppe's for all my family. I couldn't have had a better time. The food and service was excellent. Everyone enjoyed the evening. Thank Giuseppe and Alberico and Claire for a fantastic evening. I have known them all for over 20 years, and our family from Italy have eaten dinner when the Pizza house was up and running, always had fantastic meals. Thanks guys for making my 80th first class. I and my family have since eaten at the restaurant since my birthday. Bloody hell! what meals we have. Thanks again guys. See you soon for Sepia and Polipo.

It was our first time. Very friendly. Very big portions. Lovely service. The older gentleman waiter offered us limoncello which we sadly had to refuse. Then he offered us watermelon on our way out - this was delicious. We loved the casual homely atmosphere. Thank you so much for a lovely meal.

Fathers Day Lunch As always fantastic food, drink and service. This time Pasta & Salmon Pasta mixed seafood Pasta Pomodorro (gluten free) Risotto chicken and mushroom Mixed platter, calamari, bruschetta, mozzarella salad. Moretti, Aperol and soft drinks Brilliant afternoon.

Some amazing food and a great place to visit if your in town, it has a lovely atmosphere and well recommended for great food.

Visited this restaurant while staying locally for work. The food portions were huge and tasty and the staff very friendly. It was nice to see an Italian gentleman serving us in a traditional Italian restaurant. We will be going back and would definitely recommend it.

A little gem of a restaurant. Amazing food, but bring your best appetite as the portions are generous. The owner and staff are wonderful. I had the calamari, very fresh and best I've had in a long time, followed by the rigatoni campagna which had fantastic flavour.

Super evening spent to celebrate my son’s 18th birthday. We booked a table for 17!and everyone had a great time. Generous portions and a fantastic atmosphere.

Dinner in an authentic Italian restaurant. The host/owner was very friendly and charming. The portions were humongous and delicious. Next time we will try the pizzas as they look good too. We also got some free lemoncino!! Very nice

What a lovely place. Very friendly and welcoming, we ate there last night. They were really busy with Xmas parties but we timed it just right and popped in just beforehand. The staff were really lovely and the food was amazing. Thoroughly enjoyed and would definitely recommend.

We loved it here, the food was amazing, the atmosphere was happy and the service was perfect. My son made friends with the lovely owners who made us feel so welcome, wish we didn’t live so far away. We will be back soon you guys ❤️

After booking on line and confirming by phone due to no confirmation email there was confusion on arrival as to whether I had booked. I chose the pate which came with warm bread, BUY A DECENT TOASTER. I chose a pizza, certainly not cooked in a pizza oven as its base was soggy and the cheese barely melted. Having been to their establishment in Hilsea many years ago and being unimpressed then, it would appear nothing has changed. Italian isn't difficult to cook, quite an achievement to get it so bad, The wine was nice, but then that wasn't produced by them.

The atmosphere was spot on, service impeccable and our food and drinks were excellent, well done team. We look forward to a return visit soon.

The ambience is great. A very family feel and buzzing. Customer service was really great and made my aunt feel very special on her birthday. Portions are huge but still retain quality. We had the sea bass and the pork. Loved the decor too - opulent but with an authentic Italian vibe. The only improvement I could suggest is perhaps more veg with the mains and maybe a complimentary limoncello at the end 😊 Would definitely return.

This restaurant is a bit different; we need more of these, not just those that are 'standard' and have nothing unusual to offer. Excellent food and friendly staff. Other diners obviously enjoyed the experience as well. Large portions so don't go if you're not hungry!

Be prepared for a quirky evening accompanied by amazing meal. Giuseppe’s is a truly authentic Italian restaurant in Southsea. We opted to eat outside as we had the dog with us. Giuseppe and his staff couldn’t have been more attentive and helpful. My wife had a pizza which was delicious and easily big enough for two so we were given a box to take the leftovers away in. My daughter & I had pasta- I personally was in seafood pasta heaven!!! Again very generous portions and superbly cooked. We will be back .

Took my daughter out for dinner. The staff were fantastic and the food out of this world. The atmosphere, decor, just everything about it was lovely. Will defiantly back, but next time will bring more of the family. Price wasn’t bad either.

Stopped in Portsmouth in an apartment just around the corner. Thought it looked like a nice genuine Italian restaurant. Best way to describe this place.... If you have watched Gordon Ramseys kitchen nightmares you will know what I mean. Its just like walking into one of those places before Gordon comes to improve it. Staff shouting at one another, food way over loaded on plates. Mediocre taste to food. Franky and Bennys is more Italian. The decor is some what to be desired. However the most irritating thing which I have never witnessed in a supposedly 'classy' place, is a bloody bell being rung very aggressively from the kitchen until a waitress comes to collect the food. Tables are not even big enough to accommodate 4 pizzas, when the pizza boards are the size of a ferris wheel! But the waiter must insist it will fit and refuses you to move anything to make way. As chaotic as a sinking ship. If you want an 'experience' or a story to tell at a cost its a must to go. If its for an actual meal etc don't bother!!

Lovely atmosphere and the food was great. The pizzas are delicious. However I do think the restaurant is a little expensive. The staff are amazing with children and make you feel very welcome. The restaurant was very busy as it was a Saturday night.
