We stopped as a party of 8 in Tarporley for an impromptu lunch and found this gem of a place! The staff could not have made us feel more welcome and were so attentive! We all ate different foods and I am gluten free and was served a delicious lunch. The whole party enjoyed the experience . Thank you !

Took our usual trip from Warrington to join in the Carols at the Church in Tarporley. Arrived for pre hot choc and cake but were told by the staff that they were closed. We could see an afternoon tea in full swing and a birthday party. It was 3.30 so I explained I’d googled and closing was 4pm. We were allowed to enter for tea and cake. My husband wanted a toasted tea cake but the ‘kitchen was closed’ Really? It’s just a toaster needed surely? I am gluten free but there were no gf cakes. Poor attitude from the staff. Definitely wouldn’t return.

I went to Ginger and Pickles in Tarporley for the first time, hoping to grab some food and coffee and find a cosy spot to work for a bit. But here's the thing – they don't have WIFI. When I asked about it, the lady got a bit defensive, like it's a common complaint and told me to talk to the manager about it. Seriously, in 2023, who doesn't have WIFI? Most places do, so it's kind of odd. Maybe they don't want people hanging around and working too long, which is an old-fashioned way of thinking. I usually pick cafes based on whether I can work there, especially when home isn't an option with noisy children running around. I understand the owner is tackling a problem that isn't there—a response driven by fear or apprehension. It's a shame, but I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone wanting to get work done because of the lack of WiFi.

Very disappointing. The service wasn’t great and this lovely cafe has definitely lost its magic. Bacon was over cooked and hard. The banana loaf was bland and a dry breakfast. The cappuccino was very thin and like a flat white. This cafe used to be incredible. It’s now overpriced and serving bland tasting food.

Like so many other reviewers I found the staff unfriendly and more interested in chatting than noticing customers. First time here and a bad start as the waitress threw 2 menus on our table without a word!! Eventually I ordered at the counter as I assumed that was the policy only to have a lady appear with a notepad long after I had placed our order. Our lunch arrived quickly, it was good and interesting although expensive. I would not rush back as the attitude and atmosphere is not good. Finally the lady in Ginger & Pickle Bakehouse (across the road) was so different friendly helpful and a pleasure to meet.

Superb lunch out with my mother, the food here is always excellent and the service and friendliness from the staff members is outstanding. The only gripe we ever have is how noisy it is and this is potentially due to lack of soft furnishings as everything echoes without. 5 stars for the food and staff in this gorgeous location

I'm seriously shocked at the bad reviews! Are some people impossible to please? We met a couple of friends for lunch yesterday and it was such a lovely place! We will definitely return on our next visit to Tarporley as we have friends in the area.

Popped in for coffee and cake on what had been a rainy Friday. Service was a little slow but not unfriendly as mentioned in other reviews. Ordered a scone that was on the blackboard as a special and a piece of coffee cake. It took a while before we were told there were no scones left and had to choose something else .. a cinnamon bun was chosen . The cakes were excellent and the coffee really good. The cafe is light and airy the huge windows let the light flood in making it a lovely place to sit in an otherwise dull day

Appalling service from staff who appeared to be oblivious to customers waiting to order/pay the bill. Food was poor quality, mushrooms inedible, bacon fatty and stale, toast very dry. With hindsight ought to have complained but had two guests with me and wasn’t keen to embarrass anyone. But wrote a letter when I got home…a month later still awaiting acknowledgment. Won’t be returning or recommending to anyone.

Had 2 club sandwiches and 2 coffees. £25. Rather expensive for what it was. The toasted bread was an odd consistency. The filling rather meagre. Would have expected a decent sourdough nd filling for this price. The coffee was ok but not very hot and I've had better. I did a considerable detour to have lunch here but will not be back.

Called here on business and was recommended by the local posties on their picket line. On entering we noticed the only two table free needed cleaning and we would of been prepared to wait until the lady chewing the wasp behind the counter very abruptly told us she had no free tables unless we wanted to sit outside in the rain !?!? Anyway we ended up at The Swan and had one of the best breakfast served by lovely ladies who smiled all the time we were there 😄

Went as a group of 4 friends for brunch. The men had a strongmans full English breakfast & enjoyed it along with good coffee. Shared a beforenoon tea with my friend, all very nice. The only drawback being because it all comes at once, the bacon butty, the toasted bagel with scrambled egg & smoked salmon plus the layer of individual little pots of sausages, beans, black pudding & tomatoes with the toast on top layer, it is impossible to eat everything while it is still hot or even warm. I would have much preferred it to come at intervals so I could've enjoyed each at its best. Nice atmosphere, nothing fancy & friendly staff.

We have eaten here a few times now with our little dog, staff very friendly, there are obvious signs about the parking with a tablet at the bar to enter your reg number, the pin is displayed next to this. Good range of food quickly served, twice when we came they were recovering from disastrous floods so the menu was slightly limited, the food was still good though. Lovely setting to sit out by the river and regular entertainment at weekends. Keep it up Red Lion!

Went here for a nice little coffee. Was served by a youngster called Dylan who dropped it all over the table. What a silly sausage. The cafe itself stunk, the surrounding houses smelled of sewage. The north of puddington smells worse than the south. It's really not worth the pain. Stay well away

My visit was for a lunch with friends. The pub was their local, not one they frequented but it was convenient. It was a memorable visit for all the right reasons. I was welcomed at the bar with smiles and I explained that one of my party had allergies. The checking of the ingredients was really thorough, the food came and it was hot, fresh and delicious. I appreciated all the effort that went in to ensure we had a great time and felt safe. Totally worthy of recommendation and repeat visits.
