Giggling Squid - Oxford in Oxford

I visited this restaurant with colleagues and had a lovely time. Good food and attentive staff. Their scrummy sets are a really popular choice and for good reason! It's a good way of sampling four different items on the menu in one platter! Delicious!

I stopped by for a business dinner. The service was great. I believe my server’s name was Freddy. The food was nicely seasoned and was very good. The price was very reasonable for the quality.

We turned up on a Monday. I have sympathy with the staff as they were obviously not expecting as many customers as they had, but the net effect was very slow and flustered service. Food was just OK. Atmosphere and the interior were nice. Pricing was on the high side for what we got.

Lovely bright restaurant with friendly, attentive staff. Reasonably priced delicious food. Would definitely recommend it. The only downside is it is difficult to get to as there is no car parking in the area so you need to go by bus and walk.

The food was disappointing and underwhelming, although cooked and presented well. It just isn’t Thai. Like so many of these places it’s an English version of Thai food and the menu is limited to basic curries that are very “English”. If they didn’t advertise as a Thai restaurant I would say it was pleasant enough, but I was very disappointed and would say you can get the same food from M&S to heat up at home.

Mixed reviews from our group but I LOVED it - recommend he caramelised pork belly and butterfly prawn pad thai. The restaurant is beautiful too

Absolutely delicious food, great service and a perfect ambience

Well the restaurant is beautiful but we were disappointed with the food starters were OK especially the pork belly, the fisherman's basket was OK nothing more. Mains were a mixed bag the steak 2 ways was very disappointing the pad Thai was good and the honeyed crispy fish was good, deserts were again mixed the matcha cheesecake was OK the pineapple and coconut sorbet was different not horrible but different. The killer was the bill it came to the GDP of a small carribean county so not a keeper.

A great discovery during our stay in Oxford! Good value for money, the dishes were delicious, particularly the giggling pad thai. The restaurant manager was very welcoming unlike the waitress who was more unpleasant. But overall I highly recommend it!

Lovely place. Absolutely delicious food, good service, busy lively atmosphere, beautifully decorated. All 5 for us really enjoyed our menu choices and none of us could manage dessert. I had the sticky chicken was fabulous.

Lovely restaurant that has that family feel in the service it offers, the highlighted dishes that family members love is a nice touch to the menu. Restaurant was very accommodating, items are all described very well and service was top notch all the way through. I ordered the prawn and softshell crab, not a fan of seafood I thought I'd be brave and try something different and was not disappointed. The broth was delicious, I just wish there was more of it and maybe a few more prawns, it also had a pleasant level of spiciness to it which made you want more. The Thai sabai (drink) was also delicious and felt very exotic.

Went in for a very late dinner on a Sunday night and it was great. food was tasty, the staff were friendly and everyone enjoyed themselves.

Lovely evening spent at the Giggling Squid. We have previously been to the one in Stratford so wasn’t sure of this would live up to the same standards. It did not fail. Have a wonderful meal and my cocktail choice impressed

The service here is quick and friendly. I am a big fan of Thai food but this was not memorable in anyway. I had the green curry which was somewhat delicious. I usually love the papaya salad but I was not a big fan of this one. I did not like the fresh thai salad.

The foods and services are just awesome. We definitely will be back.

Perfect for a family night out. Interesting menu. Something just a little different and just a 10 minute walk from the city centre. Will revisit.

Delicious restaurant with fabulous interior design. Have visited multiple times and most often get the Chicken Pad Thai - standard but reliably delicious. Have tried lots of different meals which are all equally yummy. The service here is great and I really like the set up of the restaurant - gets lots of people in but doesn't feel cramped. Despite being a large space and my last visit being on a week night it did fill up quickly so definitely recommend booking.

Having had an excellent Thai meal on the first night of our visit to Oxford in the Chiang Mai Kitchen. Out taste buds fancied another as we were in Jericho we gave The Giggling Squid a go. Big Mistake. First we noticed a lot of staff all running around like headless chickens and lots of takeaway food going out the door. Our waiter took our food order - One Bite Salmon (don't have tonight) ok. We order other things including Classic Papaya Salad it came minus the dries shrimps, I challenged the waiter (don't have tonight). Our mains were a very average Pad Thai and an awful wishy washy Paneang Curry. As stated service was all over the place and we won't be returning anytime soon.

We went off peak so only one member of staff on but he did a good job. Food was nice although the squid wasn't prepared properly so was very chewy and the sticky rice was overly sticky and bland.

The ambience was really nice, but the food was absolutely atrocious and made my mother sick. It tasted as if it had been scooped out of an expired jar. The thought of the beef still makes feel ill. Couldn’t touch most of it.

Brilliant thia cuisine, with friendly staff and very lovely decor. Highly recommend the black sesame ice cream for dessert!

The waitress seemed scared to stand too close to our table, putting all our food and drinks in one place at arms reach. Apart from that, lovely restaurant and the food was sensational

We arrived late into Oxford and were so glad to stumble across Giggling Squid. Without a doubt, the best service we have ever experienced (and we eat out a lot)! The food was so fresh and flavoursome. My husband loved the marinated steak and delicious spring rolls with pickled veg. The rotis were so soft and moorish. Biggest surprise was the quality coffee — totally unexpected at a Thai restaurant. Thanks to Orr and the friendly team for an amazing meal after a long day of travel.

I feel generous giving one star. Boil in the bag food from a central kitchen. Poor. Service is limp. I think everything someone came to my table it was a different waiter with the pizazz of a teenage boy told to keen their bedroom. Just limp.

Has been recommended to try Vegetarian version of "giggling squid" which is made of oyster mushrooms, innovative and original we love it.

It looks beautiful, the food was presented amazingly, and tasted delicious with fair vegan and vegetarian options, it was perfect, I recommend this. Prices were fair and reasonable.

It was ok but they didn't have any soup on the menu, the size of the prawns were small and the padthai prawns had more tofu (which was burnt) it in than prawns. Starters were nice but mains were disappointing - the duck curry was ok but a little too thick sauce.

We always like the GS food wherever we go, but this time, there was hardly any chicken in 2 dishes. Lots of beef in another, though! Plenty of excuses for the poor service ("we are so busy"), but maybe just don't allow so many bookings? Nice smoothies and great veggie/duck spring rolls.

Best Thai cuisine I've had outside of Thailand. Can't recommend it highly enough.

The food is delicious! We chose the sharing starter and every item was delicious. We decided to share a pad thai for mains and this was plenty of food for 2. No room for pudding! Our waitress was a little quiet and seemed shy - possibly a new member of staff but nonetheless the service was smooth. The decor is beautiful too, a great spot for a date.

Having eaten a few times at the Bristol restaurant with my coeliac daughter, the Oxford restaurant seemed the perfect location for our party of 13 celebrating my daughters hen evening. We pre-ordered our food earlier to avoid any issues. My vegetarian Pad Thai was announced and I was looking forward to eating it. after about 10 minutes I noticed lumps of chicken. I called a member of staff over and not saying a word, she whipped my plate away at speed and within minutes thrust another plate in front of me. Having been a vegetarian for over 20 years I felt quite unwell so could not eat anything. I mentioned to another member of staff and she did at least apologise and said she would remove the meal from the bill. Meanwhile after the mains had been served, the starters now arrived. The bill arrived and my meal was still listed so we asked for that to be removed as well as the service charge. Sadly this experience ruined my evening. What could have been remedied by the correct level of service, maybe a bottle of wine for the rest of my party was not done.

Wrong choice on my part. However food was tasty but unfortunately it was luke warm. Beautiful decoration. Friendly staff.

The main courses were watery and served in metal bowls which meant they cooled very rapidly. Although not very busy on our visit, the service was very slow. The drinks only arrived half way through our main course.

I just adore Thai food and have never had any issues after eating in any other Thai restaurant in oxford . My boyfriend and I dined there recently for supper, it was just manic in there extremely noisy and uncomfortable ,which prompted us to eat up and basically get the hell out of there as fast as possible ....which was indeed a real shame as the decor is quite relaxing and inviting. I eat mainly fish and on this occasion ordered the pranee prawns and shared a little of the chicken satay and sticky chicken with rice. The following day I paid the price my abdomen was twice the size, had nausea, headache , chills and diarrhoea which lasted until the following day...horrendous!! I decided to look at reviews and noted that there have been food poisioning in the past at some of the other locations ....which concerns me as I am an ex nurse.....so felt compelled to write a review regarding my experience there. I will not be returning ...but on a positive note I must say the staff were lovely quite customer focused but unfortunately the food let them down !

Slowest service I've ever had, anywhere! We waited 45mis for any food to arrive and during that time, we didn't even get drinks - not even water. Our drink finally arrived after we got up from our table for a third time to ask, and after we'd finish actually our starters! Part of our starter never even arrived but we'd given up by then. Our main course also took ages to come and during the wait they tried to give us our neighbouring tables' food. We didn't dare order pudding as we weren't sure how long it would take... Now, the food was very tasty and the waitress was lovely and very apologetic so if you're not hungry or thirsty when you get there and you have lots of time on your hands then I'd recommend it.

Went for a family birthday meal - looked like a nice place - shown to our table at 7:30 on Saturday night - it then went down hill - first three dishes ordered were not available including Sticky Rice - ( how can a Thai restaurant run out of this staple dish ! Then my wife ordered a bottle of mineral water - but they had run out of this only tap water was available - starters arrived promptly and they were fine - then a very long wait for the main course - there seemed no system to the restaurant- waitresses seemed to wander round then when you looked around they had all disappeared . They then appeared with lots and lots of take away and I mean loads of them . After a long wait two main dishes arrived along with 1 jasmine rich - and that was it ! The waiter serving us disappeared then we saw him serving other tables - after 10 minutes and having chased our food twice I got up and went to the pass - our other dishes were sat there while it looked like every other waiter was packing up take ways - I complained to the manager and magically our food arrived - I told her that we would eat it but not pay for it which she did accept - my wife’s meal was inedible the other dishes by now cold were okish - we will not visit this place again - worse service I’ve ever had ! Place was chaotic .

Really great for gluten free. The waitress at the end of the night (apologies, can’t remember her name) got the gluten free menu up on her phone as I had no internet connection. Great for Coeliacs, would recommend.

Just had an excellent lunch here to celebrate my son's birthday. Very good food, excellent service, beautiful decor. They provided a complimentary piece of mango cake with a candle for my son's birthday. Just one tip, their idea of mild (in terms of spice) is probably hotter than the average Brit. Top dishes: coconut and sweetcorn fritters, sticky chicken.

Interior is much better than the look of the shop front. Lovely fusion style deco and warm atmosphere. Great taste of food too. The papaya salad is a flavour bomb.

The squid!! Absolutely amazing, not tough and chewy, literally melts in your mouth. The drinks were also amazing, would definitely go back. I would also recommend the chicken wings, everything was well seasoned. I wasn’t a huge fan of the chicken skewers but apart from that, no faults.

This was my first visit here and it'll be the first of many! Really lovely service, everyone is so friendly. So much choice on the menu, and the food was divine... 10 out if 10! I also loved the decor. Can't fault anything. I had the prawn Thai red curry with sticky rice so so good.

Just average, soft shell crab and prawn curry was just a couple deep fried bits swimming in a sauce, garlic noodles were over cooked and starters small and very expensive. A chain that’s losing its way with mass produced food with no personal touches , not recommended

One of the better restaurants in Oxford. Had a veggie green curry and pad Thai. Excellent flavours and nice sticky rice. And Cobra beer on tap, so had to have a pint!

Lovely venue, well presented and plenty of helpful and friendly staff rushing about.....but many mistakes with our order...things missing etc. Some food very good and overall very tasty but a few misses as well......squid bits mostly fried batter, one of our table had a beef dish which contained very fatty meat. Cocktails were great though and everything well presented and we all had a good time. The manager did respond to our criticism graciously. I will try again.

We had an excellent anniversary lunch there and enjoyed every aspect.

The staff here are really the stars - we love the food of course, but they made my sons birthday so memorable, were so funny and attentive, and made great recommendations for our non-alcoholic drinkers.

The food here was absolutely amazing. The service was brilliant. Servers so attentive. Been to the Stratford one before and loved it and the Oxford was was just as great if not better. The restaurant is also beautiful.

When first entering the premises the aromas coming from the kitchen are delightful and a tantalising hint of things to come. The food was amazing with lots of unusual dishes to choose from. The service was a little slow with drinks arriving at the same time as the food but all in all a very good experience and one we will be doing again soon.

Wouldn’t go again!, the garlic prawns were lovely, the sticky chicken and wings were awful and the squid was good but you get about 3 bits! My red Thai curry was over powered by lemongrass and honestly was awful which is extremely disappointing! £48.00 later I can happily say I won’t be returning and my parking was £5.50 absolutely joke

Amazing Thursday evening meal with friend! Was checking out the Jude The Obscure pub next door to host a big 50 bday get together soon, when spotted one of my favourite Thai chains right next door! Of course we had to check it out! Been to the Lichfield and the Warwick branches, where food was consistently delicious, (original and inventive)! However, Walton St Oxford may be my favourite now due to the lovely, warm, friendly, professional, efficient service from the whole team! And the food blew my friend away, who loves Thai and usually prefers another Oxford stalwart but proclaimed this is her new favourite-better than the other place! We will both definitely be back and with our husbands too!

Cocktails were fab. The food was nice, our starter was lovely but the mains were a little bit underwhelming personally. Service wasn't bad, but it was a busy Saturday night.

Delicious Thai food with the usual efficient service. Walked in on a very quiet night so no booking necessary. Being quiet it lacked any atmosphere having said that it’s a nicely decorated and furnished restaurant.

The Giggling Squid managed to squeeze us in as we had not made a reservation. The staff were amazing, taking our orders and remembering who had ordered what. They were polite and very helpful. The food was something else, served in good time, and very tasty. Would highly recommend eating here.

Ordered off of Deliveroo, the delivery was quick and all of the food was preserved so that did put a smile on my face. ✨ However one note for the giggling squid staff is to maybe number or create a system for big orders like mine (family of 8+) so that people don’t get confused and we can all eat what we wanted. We all managed to figure it out but we were all so confused whose was whose. In terms of the food. Fantastic. I’m not new to giggling squid, I’m quite familiar with the one in Chichester, but as I expected the food was delicious, tasty and warm.😊 This is definitely more in the pricer side as it is restaurant food, not fast food but the quality is beautiful so money won’t be wasted.

Nisha the server is very attentive, polite and professional. Main course was amazing we order one more mains after ( so tasty :-)) Finally one gentleman Bobby served us as well , So friendly and helpful. When we arrived I was just thinking this place is busy because of Friday night but I was wrong. When I saw every single dinner is well known to the staff and staff is working all the time with a great SMILE all the time. Then I realised why this place is busy (I am sure everyday). Well done everyone!!! Definitely will be back!!!
