I used to be a big fan of asian mama and visited regularly for many years. The food was very hommy. After leaving Oxford, I revisited several years later, and I was a bit dissapointed with the taste of soup. This could be very personal opinion as some of my party said that the food tasted good. I think this restaurant is good for small party and quick warm meal.

My go to option for Asian food in Headington. Lots of variety, (usually) quick service and consistent quality. My personal favorites are pad Thai and Deep fried chicken in tomato sauce with rice.

Tasty food and prompt and friendly takeaway service.

Recently went for dinner and ordered a curry, rice and a side. The food was tasty, but the staff cold and rude. When I sat down, was told immediately to pay on ordering and when I ordered more, was asked to pay again at the moment - in the middle of my meal. A real shame - was once a superb restaurant with welcoming staff.

Disappointing Experience: Our recent visit to Asian Mama left us utterly disappointed and frustrated, as nearly every aspect of our dining experience fell short of expectations. From the lackluster decor to the appalling service, it was a regrettable outing from start to finish. Upon entering the restaurant, we were immediately struck by the cheap and uninspiring decor, which set an underwhelming tone for the evening. The service was equally lackluster, with our waiter displaying a concerning lack of knowledge about the menu. Their misguided recommendations led to confusion and dissatisfaction as we struggled to make informed choices. Our frustrations only intensified as our orders were inexplicably cancelled halfway through the ordering process, leaving us bewildered and hungry. To add insult to injury, the kitchen abruptly closed while we were still attempting to place our orders, a shocking display of disregard for customer satisfaction. In summary, our experience was marred by incompetence and neglect on multiple fronts. We left feeling thoroughly disappointed and disheartened, with no desire to return.

Extremely poor experience with rude, cold staff. A shame, because the food was nice, albeit a far cry from the standard that the restaurant used to be.

We had chicken chow mein, king prawn pad Thai and some mixed dumplings. The food was served really quickly and was absolutely delicious. I would highly recommended this restaurant

When in doubt, a Chinese is always the answer. This was de-lish!!! A new place but would definitely go back - especially the crispy beef, yummmmm

This was our first time ordering from Asian Mama. The food arrived 45 min ahead of the start of the time window we had specified, which was very inconvenient. When I called to ask why, the explanation given was that there was only one driver working tonight, but that's not really a satisfactory excuse. Most of the food was ok, though we weren't ready, so it was a bit cold and the satay tofu was soggy by the time we got to eat it. The prawn crackers were inedible, they had a strange taste, I suspect they were cooked in oil that had been used too many times. Very disappointed overall

Got a take away from this place. It is one of our normal eat in / take out places and is usually really good. Recently though we have had reasons to complain and this was one of those. The Crispy Duck dish was not crispy - it was fatty, greasy and quite the opposite of crispy. Salt and pepper squid was incredibly chewy. Yes it is 10 Feb and Chinese New Year but still no excuse for this.

We use Asian Mama a lot, particularly for take out, but have also dined there. The food is good value and delicious. The restaurant is simple and has all the more charm for that.

This is a great little place we ate in and the food was great, Iwe had a duck and pancakes that was really tasty and just wonderfull the sweet and sour belly pork was beautifully cooked and the sauce was lovely all in all this was a great find just a note there are very few tables but it's worth trying.

This is by far one of the best Chinese restaurants in Oxford. Eveything on the menu is amazing, food is so tasty and clean, and the customer service is fast. Always a good choice for comfort food ☺️

What a find we ate in and the food was great it is a little strange to pay up front but I think this is because it is primerily a take away. The food was very good we had a duck starter very tasty nice fresh cucumber and onion with a good hoisin sauce, then we both had sweet and sour pork belly it was excellent. Over all a very good chance find.

The food isnt bad here, its my go to in headington when i go for a Chinese, but the costs have gone up so much! I see a lot of companies taking advantage of people since covid etc, the meals here have gone up close to 3 pounds each! Drinks have doubled in price, just puts me off. Places like this end up shooting themselves in the foot.

Ordered soup as part of family meal. The soup pot had no liquid left in it when opened following delivery. Asian mama refused to replace or refund soup saying it was fine when it left!

In general sense everything is OK, but for the price you would expect some more investment in customer service. I will not go that route and talk about that you take payments upfront. I understand there are reasons for it. But just the general staff attitude is beyond reproach. It doesn't cost a million to crack a smile and be welcoming. Food is ok, but honestly as a business invest in training your staff some customer service please.

Basic set up for eating in, but very tasty food with clean flavours, non greasy. Keep it up!

Basic no frills interior. The food were really delicious especially the horfun noodles. It totally satisfy my craving from home. My go to place if I ever crave hor fun again.

We were the only diners although take away orders were coming in and going out regularly. We were required to pay before the food arrived. We asked for water and the waitress forgot to bring it. The food was lovely.

Had a few problems with this place and wouldn’t go back if I’m honest Firstly the waitresses didn’t have much knowledge on the menu which isn’t very helpful. I asked for my dish to have extra spice but the waitress said they were unable to do this, although they had the spices available they said they didn’t want to affect the quality of the dish. Didn’t make sense to me. Also payment is taken first before your food arrives so if something is wrong then tough luck. Crispy beef was literally just fried batter, barely any beef at all. Food was very mediocre and chicken had a weird texture. Avoid if you ask me.

Although the food was good I have noticed a significant difference in the portion sizes since I last visited. Much smaller now. So with an expected price increase in this current climate, it's a bit disappointing. The service has changed too. You now have to pay for your meal before it arrives! Is this the new normal at Chinese restaurants? I don't think so. I don't like the new menu style of ordering either, choosing individual dishes per course instead of complete dishes means you pay a lot more. The venue was extremely cold which was very unfortunate as it means the rice and meat dishes reflected that.

Tasty, well presented Asian food. Very warming on a cold February night. Always welcoming and well served by attentive staff.

I eat here about once a week. Portions are a good value and the food is always well prepared. Staff are friendly and efficient. Heads up there was an inside t recently when a large group left without paying and now we pay in advance of eating. I hate that anyone would cause this kind of situation in such a good place.

Great takeout ! The half leg duck pancake selection was extremely tasty and made for a great evening. It could have done with some more cucumbers and spring onions but it was a satisfying dinner ! There is a nice selection of different dishes on the menu so there really is something for everyone. Also they have a great tracking system for take outs.

It was strange that we had to pay up front. We were a family with a small child, so it’s not like we were going to run away without paying. Anyway, the food was nice, but there seemed to be a constant tension in the air, like the staff were expecting trouble. Odd!

Well, the decor is a little old fashioned and could probably do with freshening up... but the food is fantastic! So so good.. especially the tofu. My daughter lives nearby so we'll definitely be back

Extremely unhappy with the takeout service I had today. I asked for sweet and sour chicken balls, the lady on the phone responded with sweet and sour chicken and I corrected her for the battered chicken balls. She said she repeated the whole order out and said sweet and sour chicken but I heard balls at the end of it so accepted the order. Received it and I got the sweet and sour chicken and not the balls! I rang to ask for the correct item to be resent they declined saying they read the order back when I said no I corrected it. I asked to speak to the manager and apparently he was busy!! Jokes! I will not be ordering from here again if they can’t get a simple order correct. Asian mama has gone down hill big time. Do not order from here. This has been shared on social media as well

Returned home with my order to open a oily watery curry sauce and burnt bruised chicken shop chips. Pancake roll was also awful, cheap quality considering the price of it. Rice was a weird yellow colour and awlful pork with what was given. Called up asking for a refund and was told no. I asked to speak to the manager/owner and he told his staff he was too busy???? When i left there was only 5 people in there!! Resturant run down, basic with beer garden like furniture scattered around the room with a small fridge akwardly in there too. Stay away!

Delicious Chinese food. Served hot and quick. My favourite is their beef chowmein noodles. Highly recommended Asian restaurant.

Delicious selection of dishes, portions are slightly bigger than most other asian food restaurants and the staff are very friendly. Extra props to the waiter, Gabriel, he deserve every tip for making our evening that much better!

This place use to be so nice and friendly but the last couple of times we have been the man has been so rude, he complained that we ordered to much for 5 people then when we asked for the bill he said no rush he made us feel really uncomfortable and we couldn’t enjoy our meal with him looking annoyed and moping around the place. He was the same with another family but not with the Chinese family witch makes us feel he’s only happy with his own people eating in the restaurant. It’s a shame because there use to be lovely ladies in there don’t think we will ever go back….

Flagrant abuse of access laws- denied entry and pretty much called a liar by the manager when I explained I’d eaten there a year ago with my Assistance Dog. Shocking! Avoid

Great tasting food served promptly.

I highly recommend this place. So full of flavours and nice service. I've been visiting for a few months now and their food is exquisite, I've tried a few different dishes but beef or duck chow mein are too die for.

Having ordered from Asian Mama before we did so on the 3rd December. We had problems using the website and had to do so twice. When our order arrived it was missing two items. We telephoned to ask what had happened. The woman at the other end of the phone was most rude and unhelpful. She did not offer a solution, did not apologise and said there as nothing she could do. So we were out £8 and our order was incomplete and Asian Mama do not care. The food is ok, I've eaten better and it could also be warmer. You have lost three customers as we won't be using your services in future,

10quid for this. It didn't even come with rice. I'm still hungry. I called to complain and they didn't offer any compensation.

They call this’s crispy duck and roast pork on rice 😄 Ridiculous It’s boiled duck and cha xiu on rice for £11.5 I have eaten Chinese food from everywhere in UK, this is the worst place Worst than takeaway food but in restaurants price So disappointed

Asian Mama has been the most reliable takeaway (and, once, sit down) Chinese I know in the city. Their wide variety of dishes has been at worst decent and at best uplifting, like good home cooking. You can certainly find more interesting, experimental or unique cuisine from the south Asian peninsula, but if you want something straightforward and pleasing, Mama has never failed me.

Best chinese restaurant in Oxford. We’ve been here plenty of times and each visit has been absolutely lovely! We don’t live in Oxford anymore but we sometimes make the journey to Oxford just to go here! We also love the selection of bubble tea here. Very refreshing! This place is definitely worth a visit. My personal favourites are the Pork Pieces Kung Po, Roast Duck with Rice, all the Pak Choi dishes and Boba Thai Milk Tea! Yum

Extremely slow. We were served 45 min s after we arrived. Other people served before us. Plates were brought one by one. Food was OK but not what expected from a restaurant. When I asked to take my. Kid's food home as he could not finish. I was given boxes to do. It felt like cleaning up. Would not go again for sure. Would not recommend at all. Very disappointed especially since it was our first meal outside since the Covid.

For my mother's 84th birthday we ordered a Chinese for delivery to our home. We placed our order in the early afternoon for a 6pm delivery. It arrived at exactly 6pm. The food was hot and of excellent quality. My mother said it was the best Chinese she had ever eaten. I concur. It was a feast!!!

An amazing place to eat with a huge menu and lots of interesting and tasty drinks. I especially like the new mango crushed iced tea :) I’ve had many meals here and they have all been lovely - my personal favourite dishes are the spicy fine beans with king prawn, sweet and sour seabass fillet, and the king prawn pad Thai. Lovely staff and lovely owner, all in all a 10/10 absolutely would recommend.

We had a lovely meal, chicken cashew bamboo shoots, special fried rice, ribs and satay skewers. A lovely meal for 2. Reasonable prices. Park a couple of streets away near Iceland shop. ( Parking is a problem) . Have a pint at the Butcher's arms , order the food and collect. Great start to a cosy evening.

We ordered mushrooms and chef special tofu spicy and rice 🍚 as side all vegan dishes, it was good enough, I would say it was made in hurry not too much time given to it. Tofu was really hot but without taste like there were not enough spices in it. Mushrooms were ok but nothing special but same like plain without any spice. Overall cant say it was bad but somehow without taste. Bartender guy was really unhappy and didnt explain anything to us, like its the worst job in the world. Give him a raise make that man more happy to the customers. Average meal, at least we had it outside inthe sun ☀ 😊

Good choice of slightly different dishes to the usual you would expect on the menu. Never have to wait ages for a collection time and food is really good.

Just ordered from this establishment after using them for 15 years even back in the days when they were hang chow... extremely disappointed in there customer service after ringing to complain about the portion size of calamari (as seen in the photo) I was laughed at and told that I might have eaten half of it before I have complained. To summarise I'm insulated and aggravated is this how you reward 15years of continuous buisness? Disgusting

Expensive food which is very good if they get it right, but awful attitude from staff. They fail to realise that their trade depends on good service and attitude too. They made a mistake with my order and couldn’t care less. Gave them another chance and was let down yet again. Will spend my money elsewhere in future. Silly people.

At last. A truly decent Chinese/Asian takeaway in Oxford. Succulent Cashew chicken with bamboo shoots, clean flavours, no stodginess. Keep it up! Some of the takeaways in Cowley/Temple Cowley/Iffley Rd are awful. Asian Mama worth the trip.

Asian Mama offers some of the best Chinese food in Oxford. We rediscovered it during the lockdown, and have been regular takeaway customers ever since. The service is efficient, the staff are friendly, and the quality of the food is amazing. Everything you could want from a Chinese restaurant! Highly recommended.

Wanted to try a new takeaway amidst lockdown and saw an ad for this place on FB. Excellent food and a great menu. The service was good too. We'll definitely be going back.

Good staff, quality food in minimum cost

I only went to Asian Mama for a quick bite or two but I'll certainly be back soon! I wandered in with some friends at around 4 o'clock on a Thursday and was quickly greeted by welcoming staff and a warm, intimate atmosphere. It was rather empty when I arrived- but this just made it feel all the more intimate. I ordered four chicken dumplings and some tempura prawns. Despite the low pricing, the food was very good. The fried food was crunchy and brilliant and the dipping sauces were vibrant with a satisfyingly tangy flavour. Ten out of ten- would eat again!

Disgusting!! Please do not waste your time even going near this place, ordered a take away as we was running late and the children needed to eat before bed, got home and the chips smelt burnt and tasted disgusting, I called them up and told them and asked them to bring a replacement and they refused, basically called me a liar saying they was not burnt, I tried to explain that if they bring fresh they can have these ones back and see for them self but they said no, I explained how this was our dinner before the children went to bed and they really didn’t care at all, will be calling trading standards in the morning as surly they can’t be serving people burnt food.

Tried this place for the first time, had takeaway, I ordered a chow main mixed sea food, it was the worst thing I ever had... No sauce at all the noodles where overcooked, the sauce was nowhere, and I could literally count the sea food 2 shrimps and 4 clams, ridiculous... Regarding I paid 9.50 £ for a small casserole I expected it to be atleast good. Very disappointed, never again, thank you. Waste of money.

Pros: very good ho fun, quick service, generous portions, friendly. Cons: jasmine tea comes from a tea bag, the hand-dryer in the bathroom is not working (a regular towel is provided instead, which seems unhygienic)

I love it at Asian Mama when I'm up for some hearty chinese food. Humble, nostalgic and comforting for me. I love the aromatic crispy duck pancake. Duck isn't dry, still meaty. The hosin sauce isn't watered down, still tasty. Closes to what chinese food should be and very reasonable price.

If I am asked to recommend a good chinese restaurant in Oxford, Asian mama will be one of the first :) It has a good lunch menu at £7.8 fixed price. Food is delicious and served very quickly by a very kind waitress. My fiance and I have been coming here for more than a year and food quality is consistent! We would recommend the crispy beef, ramen and aubergine with shredded pork.

Como restaurante es bastante acogedor con un área limitada de asientos / comedor.Como su nombre indica, Asian Mama es más que un restaurante chino que incluye en el menú una oferta más amplia de Asia.Hicimos nuestro habitual de compartir una selección de entrantes y también compartir una selección de platos principales regados con cerveza Tsing Tao.No se deje engañar por la decoración externa, la comida estaba bien preparada y muy sabrosa, especialmente me encantaron las albóndigas.El servicio fue lo suficientemente atento.
