Then check out this amazing place for a private party for Christmas with a twist. Booked for 15 for a family Christmas get together, what can I say .. fabulous night, food was exceptional, drinks were something else.. (got to give the gin and vodka teapots a go), also the cocktails and mocktails for the kids.…fabulous. Staff had permanent smiles and nothing was too much trouble for them. Beautiful surroundings. Would not hesitate to recommend this little gem 100% Thank you Jane and the girls for a truly wonderful night.

Was given a voucher for Ghiaccio as a gift, and took a friend as a 'treat'. I was mortified! The produce served up almost certainly came from a nearby cheap frozen food shop - there was certainly nothing that was home-baked or luxurious. The voucher cost £19.95 for the two of us, but what we were given would barely have come to a £5 in total (and that includes the Prosecco). What an out and out rip off - the owners should be deeply ashamed of their profiteering. I would have given this 0 stars had that been possible, will never go back, and would not recommend this to anyone.

£19.95 for 2 people amazing value. Great service & very friendly. Everything well presented on a slate tray. Small portions but very sufficient. Included tea, mini milkshakes and a tasty mango gin cocktail. Took my mum for a birthday treat and we both loved it. Thanks

We were warmly greeted when we arrived (my mum and I) and seated at a table in the window. Nothing was too much trouble for the lovely ladies serving us. Tea and coffee were served in minutes, as well as the food presented beautifully. We were offered a selection of alcoholic beverages and settled on the mango gin Prosecco cocktail! Wow, was that good!

Been to visit Ghiaccio yesterday based on reviews that the afternoon tea was excellent. Sadly, this is a far cry from the truth. Whilst the place is reasonably ok and the staff were pleasant, the food on the other hand was a let down. The quality of the food was below standard and it was so disappointing as we were very much looking forward to it. There was a vast selection for the afternoon tea and nicely presented but all these were of inferior quality and none were freshly made. It tasted of cheap shop bought sandwich fillings, cakes and bucks fizz. So disappointing :(

Me and my Mam visited here yesterday for a cocktail afternoon tea using a voucher from Wowcher. We had a bit of difficulty booking as the phones were constantly busy and when I did get through, I had to book in two phone calls as they were apparently that busy. In the hassle, I forgot to mention dietary requirements, and this seemed to be a problem with the member of staff who I believed to be the manager, and who served us throughout. We wanted our afternoon tea to be pig-free because of cultural reasons and she stated that the afternoon tea had been made that morning and that we should have notified her when booking so an alternative could be provided. She did end up swapping the sausage rolls for extra prawn toast (from another booking) but we didn’t get a replacement for the ham sandwiches. I wasn’t sure why another sandwich couldn’t just be made there and then, as a walk in order would be requesting. We were also the only people there and it was 1:30pm on a Saturday. On our afternoon tea there were egg, tuna & sweetcorn and coronation chicken sandwiches, prawn toasts, scones, jam & cream, mini strawberry milkshake, mini Eton mess, mini vanilla slice, mini eclair and mini profiterole. It didn’t look much like the image on the Wowcher website. The cocktail included was mango, gin and lemonade but I couldn’t taste any gin. Drinks offered were tea and coffee so I ended up getting a tap water as I don’t drink them and these weren’t refillable either. I’ve never had a problem getting hot chocolate as part of afternoon tea anywhere else that I’ve been to. I thought the afternoon tea was ok but nothing was homemade which I would have expected eg. scones and pastries (and some cake), and there wasn’t enough jam and cream for two people. We also got two mini ice cream cones each which was nice and we were allowed to choose the two flavours from a limited selection, so we both had toffee and chocolate. I do feel that we were made to feel like an inconvenience for using a voucher and for asking to change two items for dietary reasons and this was shown by the staff member’s attitude. I don’t think it is worth returning for, I’ve had much better afternoon tea at the establishment next door to it.

Visiting the area with my husband and noticed this on Groupon, so glad I booked it. Disappointed to read the negative reviews, we both thought the cream tea and Buck’s Fizz was lovely and tasty. Yes portions looked smaller than picture on voucher but us 2 big adults couldn’t of eaten any more. Owner was very nice and friendly. I prefer to support local people making a go of it rather than national chain cafes. I hope this cafe is still there when we visit South Shields in future.

We have visited this restaurant several time s for different themed afternoon teas but sadly today’s visit was disappointing. I did not want tea so requested coffee and had to pay extra for this - never ever had to do this i this establishment or any other! My daughter was offered blackcurrent juice - sadly didn’t appear but the Diet Coke did what we paid for. Most things in the tray were shop bought - what was homemade?? Rose wine was offered - I don’t drink, no alternative was offered, very disappointing again! We have always enjoyed visiting and my daughter loves this establishment but sadly I think this will be our last visit - lots of variety around and other establishments to choose from.

Arrived for afternoon tea with a groupon voucher which was redeemed by owner 24 hours before hand in case we didnt turn up we were seated straight away and given a pot of tea we had to ask for a top up when food arrived because we waited 20 minutes the food looked very presentable and neat however sandwhiches had no butter on sausage rolls were frozen ones which when defrosted were wet on top also the eclairs werent defosted enough we finished our food yet werent offered bucks fizz or ice cream we also noticed the table next to ours left disgruntled after waiting ages but werent offered drinks or ice cream also owner involved us in conversation about groupon taking 30% of cost of voucher SO I paid £20 for afternoon tea for 2 which was 4 slices of bread with filling 2 small scones 2 milk shakes 8 tiny frozen cakes( not fresh) 1 frozen sausage roll cut in half ( not fresh) and 2 small slices of quiche the product did not match the description on the voucher as we did not recieve drinks or ice cream IT IS A CON AND GROUPON SHOULD BE MADE AWARE OF IT!!

Had a trip to South Shields today and had booked an afternoon tea using a groupon voucher. The staff were fantastic, nothing seemed too much and the tea exceptional. The manageress regularly checked we had everything we needed and that the lunch was okay which was fantastic. Fresh sandwiches and delicate tasty cakes. As a little extra to a wonderful lunch was the Pimms which replaced the booked Bucks Fizz. Well worth a visit if you are in the area.

My friend and myself purchased a Groupon Voucher for Afternoon Tea with a Glass of Bucks Fizz. I booked on Tuesday and got a table no problem. We walked into the cafe today and was seated straight away with lots of smiles and chats from the female manager. She then asked us what kind of sandwiches we would like. A large variety of options were available! GREAT! We ordered and sat happily with our pot of tea, which was adequate. The manager then came over with a HUGE afternoon tea, which again was nice (nothing out of the world, but decent for what we paid). Our sandwiches were the best part, lovely and fresh. Everything else seemed to be quite low quality. But still quite tasty. But we didn’t want to complain. I noticed that we had not been given our Bucks Fizz. Neither of us drink, so I thought I would ask if we could change it for a soft drink. We were not bother if they had said no- we were quite happy with our tea 😁. The waitress at the counter said “What would you like?” I said “Are we allowed to have anything?” She said “Yes, no problem” My friend then ordered a Rose Lemonade and myself just a plain coke. The waitress then happily brought the drink over to the table, nothing was a bother. Lovely service again! 😁 A short while later the female manager approached us and asked if everything was alright. She then told us that the waitress had made a mistake and that we should not have been given the soft drinks. She said we could have had apple juice etc instead. The reason she gave behind this is because the value of the soft drinks would be more than 2 glasses of Bucks Fizz. This is totally understandable. However, I did ask what we could have. She then mentioned something about stock and that we had to pay for our soft drinks. My friend and me looked at each other and she said “Just pay for the one drink then. Is that alright? Let me know when you want your ice creams”. We were shocked. We ate the rest of our afternoon tea and ordered the ice creams (which were okay). Quickly handed over the code and mentioned the drinks. This is where the manager became angry and I felt extremely uncomfortable. She asked for a couple of quid for the drinks. To be honest it wasn’t the money I was bothered about, it was the principal. I stated that I asked what was available and was told that we could have anything. I also stated that this was not a fault of ours and maybe the waitress should have checked before issuing us with the drinks. She then stated that what the voucher says, is what we should get (I have been to many places for Afternoon Tea and NOBODY has had a problem with changing). And then persisted to tell us that Groupon take 30% of the profit and that the “till would be down”. I again reiterated that this was not our fault as we were unaware of the soft drinks on offer, in as calm a manner as possible. She then said “Right, fine. You have to see it from my point of view” I nodded. She said “Now the till is going to be down”. I said “Sorry, but it’s not fair on your customers” She repeated “Fine”. Both my friend and me said goodbye and the managers response.... “Hmmm, yeah” in a tone I’d expect from a teenager... I have never felt so uncomfortable in a cafe before. The afternoon tea definitely turned sour! I strongly advise people to not book via Groupon. In fact, stay away! We were going to order milkshakes, but we decided against it and practically ran out. Avoid! Unless you want to be spoken to like absolute filth. Even after I apologised (why should I say sorry, but I did anyway) I’ll be taking my custom elsewhere. Most places are better than here, if I’m honest.

My daughter rang and suggested going for a coffee out of the blue. Ever eager to avoid chores I agreed and she took me to Ghiaccios which is in Harton Village on one of the main roads into South Shields. Although small inside and out it is immaculate. The staff were friendly and welcoming and the smoothies and milk shakes I saw were jaw droppingly gorgeous. A little girl visiting had an ice cream served quirkily in a tea cup. My daughter ordered a cappuccino for me and an old fashioned bottled Diet Coke for herself. My coffee was more milky than I'm used to but was still very nice. The staff are friendly and it has a great atmosphere. Soon enough though it was back home to the hoover! I will have to go again as I really fancied the milkshakes and ice creams.

I usually really like this cafe, the coffee is great and the owner and female manager are lovely, very friendly and chatty. Went in today for an ice cream and was served by the most surly, unhelpful waiter imaginable. He was about 19, wearing a black t shirt and with dark hair and stubble. He could barely be bothered to answer our questions about available ice cream flavours and and was completely disinterested in serving us. As a result we walked out without buying anything. I'd definitely return to the cafe but not to be served by that waiter. Such a shame about terrible service in an otherwise really nice cafe.

Booked this straight away when we seen the place was beginning to offer Ice-Cream Afternoon Tea, I'm addicted to it, so I took my Mum! We weren't disappointed at all, it was lovely, just a traditional tea, beautifully presented! Loved the ice-cream at the end, such a good little twist too and you could choose which you wanted! All of the staff were so welcoming and very, very helpful. The Manager even took her time to come and speak to us, which meant a lot! I would definitely come back here, even more so for a try of the shakes, they looked amazing! ☕️

We were recommended by friends to try this new ice cream and dessert lounge , we were shopping at the nook shopping centre and called in ,, it is only a short distance from the Nook along Sunderland road to Harton village one of the picturesque villages that now are part of South Shields .Ghiaccios is situated in the middle of the row of old village shops that make up the centre of the village. It is relatively a new business that has a new concept of an excellent variety of reasonably priced coffees which when you see the size of the cups is really cheap. There is every variety and flavour of ice cream you can think of and would not be out of place in Italy , what a place for children !It is a change to see a light airy floor space not cluttered with tables yet comfortable. The staff are very friendly and helpful when choosing an ice cream , you could wait a long time for children to pick a flavour ..We are definately returning , with kids !!!!

Upon entering you cannot fail to be impressed with the decor and cleanliness of this delightful ice cream and dessert lounge. Everything is brand new. The staff are smartly dressed, very friendly, and only too willing to describe what is on offer - if you are struggling with the many options open to you. You can either stick with the ice cream choices or choose hot drinks (tea and coffee) and a dessert. Give it a try - whatever you choose you will not be disappointed. Kids will love visiting this place. They are made very welcome by the staff. The owner has obviously paid attention to detail in setting up this business - it deserves to be successful.
